Went here Friday night at 11:20PM. Was told I could not eat in the restaurant because they close at midnight. Seemed unreasonable to not be able to eat my food from 11:30-12. I've been a regular customer here since you opened and have never been turned away at 11:30pm. I have eaten here scores of times. I was not near home and really had planned to eat at the restaurant. Definitely makes me reconsider this place as an option. Seemed like the people working just wanted everyone out. I did not recognize them. Perhaps some training in logic? Not a good policy. read more

i have to stop here to eat anytime I'm in the area ! I've been eating here for years & this is definitely my favorite location of the j gumbo's, by far; the service, the way they plate the food, even the side of bread is better than the other locations. I get the bumble bee stew & white chili (they put the different gumbo next to eat other instead of on top of each other) with a side of sour cream & an extra bread! Small cozy place with my comfort food read more

We were driving through, wanted a quick late night bite and found this place. The inside was clean, nothing fancy. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by two friendly workers. They asked if we had any questions and offered to let us try anything. They were super friendly and helpful! We started with the bumblebee dip.... Crowd pleaser for sure!! Definitely a must try! I opted for the honey sriracha chicken. My friend did half voodoo and half gumbo. We loved everything. read more

DELICIOUS FOOD. I grew up eating Cajun food from Yats in Indianapolis and this place is just as good! Really tasty stuff. I love it here. My dad and sister are in town and they enjoyed the tasty food as well. "Pretty good" -Dad "pretty great" -sister "I am full though" read more

Good eats considering that this is in Ohio! I've gone a few times and tried a couple different things. All pretty dang good.

So delicious! I have never had gumbo before so I can't speak on comparison, but this one was delicious and spicy! The jambalaya was amazing and so was the bread pudding. Service was greatand quick and restaurant was quiet. Will return! read more

Food was really good I had the chicken and sausage gumbo with cornbread and the house bread. Really good we sat in at about 730 and it was steady traffic but still remained calm and peaceful really enjoying that quiet time, I don't get that often! Customer service was great really sweet and offered great advice on the menu choices and what was popular. We will be back again to try more on the menu! read more

Had the drunk chicken mixed with the gumbo and it was such a great combination with just enough spice. I am excited for my next visit to Cincinnati so that I can come back for more! read more

I drove 40 minutes to go to this J. Gumbo's. My pregnancy cravings had me thinking about it, even though I hadn't had J. Gumbo's in about a decade (and never at this location.) The service was quick and friendly, and the food was just as good as I remembered. I got a bowl with half voodoo chicken and half white bean chili. The serving sizes are huge. When I was done eating, it didn't even look like I had made a dent in the bowl. I'm no expert in Cajun food, so I can't comment on the authenticity, but what I can say was that it was great. Bonus point: it still tasted good reheated (and I'm not a leftover fan usually.) read more

I was so excited to try this, but it was sadly disappointing. We got 3 dishes: the Bourbon St. Chicken, Red Beans & Rice, and Red Hot Buffalo Chicken. The rice was mushy, the stews tasted watered down. Even the garlic bread everyone raves about was just run of the mill. Even though it's a convenient, near-by option, I doubt we'll be eating here again. read more

Food was mid at best, kind of bland. If you get a pick 3 the portion size is the same as a single dish. So basically you're paying double for no reason. Weak portion size when ordered to go. Garlic bread was bland. This is not the Cajun spirit. Go to Allyns instead. read more

Got the voodoo and drunken chicken bowl. This was prob better then what I had when I was down in New Orleans. The voodoo was spicy but manageable though to me. The service was great. Friendly employees. Quiet atmosphere. If you haven't been here, it's a must! read more

This a perfect late night eat location! The rice and beans will definitely sop up all that alcohol from late night partying! The food is so good too! Plus, they're one of the few places in the Clifton area with their very own parking lot! That's a +10 for me. I hate trying to parallel park. We got a big bowl of bumble bee stew for $6. It's served over rice like all the meals, unless you un-request it. It's pretty spicy and doesn't contain meat. I usually order a combination of two or three entrees in the same bowl to mix it up. I like a combination. Sometimes it takes away from the spiciness. They have plenty of seating and a unisex bathroom. They have late night specials here. They also have garlic bread and cornbread. They should always accompany the entrees. read more

I am so sad that I didn't love J Gumbos. I LOVE cajun/creole food because of the bold, intense flavors. J Gumbos' food lacked both of those qualities. It was mushy and bland and lacked any sort of depth. The prices were good and the portions were decent, but I would never pick to go back here. read more

This is the best J. Gumbo's location because you get free garlic bread with your meal. I usually frequent the Blue Ash location, but the Clifton location can't be beat. My friend and I stopped in for a quick dinner before catching a flick at the Esquire. They have different gumbo options available, and you can choose a large bowl or a small bowl with white or brown rice. I ordered the honey sriracha with white rice. The food came out fast and tasted delicious as always. read more

Little hole in the wall restaurant, very clean, great portions of food. Customer service was better here this last time we went than a few weeks ago. My fiancé loves their food so we go about once a month. Customer service is better the earlier you go, but food portions and taste are always good. read more

I usually don't comment if I don't have anything nice to say... *but*... J. Gumbo's has a lot working against it. It's a cool enough concept: quick Cajun/ creole bowls to serve the late-night crowd. In reality, my honey sriracha bowl tasted like a sugary ketchup glob over uncle ben's rice and boiled chicken. Something on par with a failed concoction I could have made at home using leftovers and condiments in the fridge... certainly not worth $8.29. The one upside: they clearly label their gluten free options. Overall, not sure I'd ever return. For the late night you can be rest assured the Skyline next door is your better bet. read more

This place has absolutely no seasoning! And the rice was soggy. They had the wrong type of people working there

I had a friend in town from Lafayette, IN where they had previously had a J. Gumbo's that had since closed down. He is an avid fan of this Cajun-Creole chain restaurant, so he all but insisted that we go here during his visit. We swung by after an afternoon of bar-hopping and definitely did not regret it. I love their Black & Bleu Dip, which is their Bumblebee Stew with bleu cheese and tortilla chips. It's vegetarian and a great balance of slightly sweet, slightly spicy. read more

So we wanted some food on Friday night around 2 am and my friend told me about this place. The place was pretty clean and didn't gave a unhappy vibe as compared to other late night restaurants. The etouffe with crawfish I ordered was incredible, which I wasn't expecting. Also most of the items were $6.99 or in the same ballpark. After We paid at the counter, the guy served us the order in less than 5 minutes. read more

I did not eat in but had carry out. This restaurant looks pretty awesome and would love to dine in when in Clifton. The place looked quaint and comfortable. There is a backroom that is "intimate seating" where groups of friend can get together to watch a game and not bother any other customers or maybe a meeting. Not sure if you can, didn't ask. Anywho, there was a nice choice of items on the menu. Not too overwhelming. You could make the gumbo in/with rice or on bread (called Po'boy) . I have never been there and did not know what to get. The person at the front helped with my decision and a nice lady said that I must try the red chili Chicken. It had a red pepper symbol next to it and I absolutely love spicy food so I tried out that one. It was only 8 bucks and the serving size was huge!! Really could share with another person if you are looking at true serving sizes. When I got home to enjoy my glorious, delicious smelling meal, I was surprised. In FL, Po'boys has slaw and tomatoes on it but this one didn't. It was just Gumbo and French bread, almost reminded me of a bread bowl. BUT it really didn't need it!! It was so good and had a great tasty kick to it. It even got me sweating and it is pretty hard to do due to my high tolerance of spicy food. The ingredients were fresh and the chicken was cooked through. The bread was really good to sop up the thick creamy liquid. Very filling! I will definitely come back to try others with rice or Bread. read more

A lot of people seem to like this place and it's just mediocre to me. The Cajun type food that I've tried in New Orleans tasted way better. This place does not scream authentic to me at all. The bread pudding was very moist and had the right amount of sweetness, but tasted artificial. There had to have been some artificial vanilla sprinkled on there somewhere. I am so not a fan. The positive is, the tap water was so good I drank the whole cup! read more

I can't complain about the food but whoever the older women is she has a attitude to adjust. I wasn't rude I wasn't difficult I didn't have a huge order so why she was talking to me with a tone and aggression and like I was a 3 year old is beyond me. I've been coming here for over 5 years and I have never been talked to like that and not once prior to today have any issues. If she's here next time I come, I'm walking right out. I refuse to be treated rudely and I gave no reason for it. I still was smiling and even told them to have a great night but never again. read more

The food here is so good, so hearty, so full of flavor it's crazy!! It's a creole cajun type deal with bread bowls , Poboys , and some solid nachos . It's spicy(well it can be) it's creamy, it's cheesy . My mouth is watering just thinking about it . Get your butt in there for dinner or a late lunch . You won't eat again that day . Open pretty late too. read more

Hooray for a tasty Cajun option near campus! I'm a fan of the Zydeco Chicken. Some limited parking is available in the adjacent lot. Typically, plentiful metered parking is also available. Daily specials and coupon deals are not as good at this location as they are at other locations (like Finneytown). Sweet tea is often HOT, so fill up with ice if you go this route. read more

I like this gumbo place! They serve a variety of gumbo with different spice levels. Tonight I tried their "mix-it up" gumbo--bumble bee stew and white chili. One is vegetarian and the other is vegan. They are delicious! The gumbo combo I got were served with either white rice or brown rice (with your choice) and a piece of fresh bread. Yum! Very flavorful and fulfilling. The price is reasonable (relatively cheap compared to most of the restaurants on Ludlow.) But don't get me wrong, the food they serve do not look cheap and skimpy at all! I left the place with a full stomach! The service was very nice when I find there tonight The man who took our order was very friendly and gave us recommendations. I will definitely come back to try other kinds of gumbo! :) read more

Worst experience in the city:-( I came into town for a quick visit. We were speaking with the guy trying to figure out what would be a good food choice. He gave suggestions, but never offered any samples. I ordered the Jambalaya and Etouffee mixed bowl with brown rice. It came to me with white rice instead of the brown...but I ignored it hoping the food would be good and I really just didn't like it. I asked if I could exchange it for something else and was told "no" because they "offer samples." Keep in mind, not one sample was ever offered. There was no one in the restaurant and they did not even want to keep our small party of three satisfied, knowing it was our first experience. It was very disappointing:-( read more
