The food here is FIRE and the people at the front were nice and welcoming. GOOD VIBES coming from them for sure. I got the curry goat with double cabbage & oxtail with rice and peas & cabbage. I also got 2 orders of plantains. Everything was very tasty and went well together. You don't need to add any hot sauce because there's a little kick in the curry goat but to each is own.Ya'll have to come and try this spot if you haven't already. The only thing is, I wish there was a little bit more of everything since you're paying almost $20 for each dish. It seemed like only 2 people were operating the business so be patient. Food is great! But I despise that they don't have a dedicated person to answer to phone for call-ins. I informed them that I kept calling and asked why they don't answer. The lady stated that they don't answer if there is a steady flow inside, but it's very inconvenient when they say wait a time that could have been collapsed by a call-in. Not to mention, I have reservations about the neighborhood which is why I finally just drove. The other reason is because sometimes they are out of something. It could all be avoided if someone will just answer the phone. This happened to me today and the lady got my order wrong. First time here and this has been a pleasant experience. We were greeted very warmly and welcoming. My sister and I ordered the jerk chicken and curry chicken. The place wasn't too busy and we waited about 15-20 minutes for our order to be completed. We quietly sat and listened to a nice mix of popular Jamaican hits to keep us entertained. Here's my take on the food: Jerk chicken: Tender. Smokey. Flavorful. Unfortunately not spicy. Everyone makes their jerk differently and in my opinion the flavor of the chicken makes up for the lack of heat that I was anticipating. Curry chicken: Pretty good, very tender. A good amount of flavor. Vegetables: The cooked/steamed perfectly with the right amount of flavor. Rice and peas: A bit on the mellow side when it comes to flavor but it's a good consistency in texture. It serves its purpose in soaking up the flavors of the entrée to provide a balanced experience without being overwhelmed. Friendly service and delicious food. I ordered fried snapper, head removed, and jerk wings. I got a whole snapper with head and leg thigh quarter instead of wings. This is the reason for 3 stars instead of 4. The food was delicious! Snapper was crispy and seasoned. The flavor of the chicken was so good. I ordered the jerk and cabbage and OMGoodness! The dish was bursting with flavor!!! The smokiness of the chicken, the ginger, allspice and pepper I could clearly distinguish, it was all good. Because it is a "carryout only" spot (curbside for now) and it was my first time dining there, I figured I should take a couple of bites before I left. So decided to go to this place because I have been craving Jamaican food, let's proceed. Venue: I'm not going to lie when I pulled up the parking lot was being worked on and the venue kind of looked suspect. However, When you go inside there's a left section a right section, and about four tables where you can sit and dine in (two tables on each side). Then you walk up to a glass where you put in your order. The inside was clean. The only thing was their door every time it closed kept making a loud banging noise so it was alarming until you got used to it. We decided to dine in and I'm glad we did. Service: First of all you know there's that stereotype that if you go to a Jamaican restaurant and the service is bad the food is going to be amazing? ROFL. Honestly, I was scared because the guy who greeted us, Jason, was super nice. So in my head, I'm thinking oh man this food is about to be horrible lol. Jason is one of those people with an energetic, charismatic personality and he spoke with such kindness and happiness. And the drink I got the Sorel was good but it was overly sweet. However, once I started eating the sweetness definitely went right along with the savoryness of the food. Price: for the oxtail, jerk chicken, two orders of festivals, two drinks I paid around $46. Not bad at all because the way I was eating all I could think about was my bills about to be $100 and it wasn't so I was happy. Pricing isn't bad. Yall know oxtail expensive! My husband happened to notice this restaurant sitting back off the street as he pasted by. We decided to try it and WOW! Talk about great Jamaican cuisine this is it! The place is small but the flavor of the food is HUGE! The owners are fantastic, friendly and very kind! I grabbed a few business cards and I've recommended Yummi Xpress to everyone I know. When I talk about the food people wanna know where so I hand them a card lol I rarely promote anything like that. I told my sister when she and her teens visit this summer this will be one of our meals. My husband goes so often they know him by name but then they greet everyone like they know them by name! Wow this place is actually nuts, most of the jerk chicken places around here really lack flavor but not yummi xpress, super tender/moist/smoky jerk flavor with the rice and cabbage it is a match made in heaven.
