    Fine selection!

A WHISKEY BAR IN GREENFIELD! I'll say it again... A WHISKEY BAR IN GREENFIELD! I have been back a few time and always trying something new. Super collection of whiskey and one very knowledgeable owner. Tell him what you like and he will make a recommendation. Now that they have their J Gough Whiskey, it's become my go to drink! Smooth and silky. The food is also pretty good! The beer cheese and pretzel is something I always end up getting-- Even the lactose intolerant may want to suffer for the cheese. For those who like wings-- they have monster wings!

Stumbled upon this place by accident and we never pass up an Irish pub. Cute inside- very cozy. Bartender was nice and attentive. We didn't order food.

Great selection and good times. Gretchen was attentive and took great care of us. We came in with a large party and it was no problem for the experienced staff. A+ will visit again!

    Fried Green Beans were tasty

I enjoyed the fried green beans and was impressed by the whiskey selection. I loved the Old Fashioned I got. Staff were accommodating and moved groups to nicer tables as they opened up. I appreciated that I didn't need to shout over the music unlike so many places I go to for drinks.

Andy and Sam enjoyed their bourbon and vodka. I love their pretzel bread! Marnie was disappointed in the 4 Roses bourbon, which she felt was just a scotch. Jagoffs (how can I cal it anything else) is a rather upscale-seeming bar for Greenfield, and I expect our friends will be frequenting it from now on.

Roast beef panini and buffalo chicken flatbread

A warm and inviting Irish themed pub with DELICIOUS food. The cheese plate was affordable and big (even though we ordered a small) and my roast beef panini was to die for. Really flavorful food for a local joint that I would highly recommend. Friendly bar tender and hometown service. 11/9/19-- I can't believe I've never posted about their cheese plate! Still regulars, love this spot, always order a cheese plate.

If you look up "cozy" in the dictionary, I'm pretty sure there would be a picture of the inside of J.Gough's. This little neighborhood watering hole is pretty small, but it feels very warm and welcoming, and it's not at all divey. They have a HUGE selection of whiskeys, which makes my Old Fashioned-loving hubby very happy. They also serve a limited menu of food, which is surprisingly tasty. I've tried the buffalo chicken mac and cheese and the BBQ chicken flatbread, which are both solid. So not only is a this a nice little spot to duck in for a drink, but you can have a legit dinner as well. Oh, and prices are very reasonable, so there's yet another feather in its cap! Also, I heard that the name is supposed to be a play on the term "jagoff." I have no idea if that's true, but if it is, it makes me love this place even more. Cheers!

If you're a whisky lover this place is for you. They have an exhaustive menu of American, scotch, Irish, and ... whiskies, and if you're not sure what to choose, the bar tenders always have great recommendations. Like I was looking for a smoky bourbon and one of the guys suggested the peated bourbon in the picture which is amazing. Also to top it off, they also have delicious food. I recommend their pulled pork sandwich.

    Stuffed banana peppers

Came to J Gough's for the first time and will definitely be back. Tons of whiskey options and great food too. Stuffed hot peppers are good. Beware the peppers are very spicy...which I enjoyed. The potato salad is among the best I have ever had

Mac and cheese with crab. Mac and cheese was okay, but not that flavorful.

I waited months and months for J. Goughs to open. I basically acted like a crazy ex girlfriend driving slowly down Murray to see if it had opened and stalking the Facebook page weekly. I think this is why I'm so disheartened about my actual visit. The food and drinks were just okay. We tried the deviled eggs (nothing special, but alright), potato salad (the best dish I had and very flavorful), and mac and cheese (pretty bland). The decorating and ambiance were also not my favorite, and felt a little odd. I think I was expecting something different, but was a little confused with layout and seating within the place when I walked in. My overall experience was alright. The only thing that was really good about J. Goughs was the service and the liquor selection. Our server was very responsive and great at her job. Another guy there (possibly a bartender, maybe an owner?) helped me order an old fashioned with bourbon after being a little underwhelmed with my vanilla mule (which mainly tasted like ginger beer). My friend did enjoy her mules and actually ordered multiple of them, but I wasn't that impressed. The cocktails were also a little pricey. I'm really sad to say that although I left J. Goughs feeling pretty good about my visit, I'm not exactly in a hurry to go back. I might go back again, but I'm disappointed because this is the only nonsmoking bar within walking distance from my place and I think I expected too much from it. Womp womp.

(Sitting at the bar is the best!) We started with Bartender's choice (which is always a good idea if you're at a specialty cocktail bar), and we both loved what we got! They made me a Juliet & Romeo, which was gin, cucumber, mint, etc. they made my fiancé a Safe Return, which was bourbon, pineapple, cinnamon, etc. (didn't write down the ingredients so can't remember it all lol) I also got the classic Last Word, which was great! They didn't include the maraschino cherry garnish which made me sad, but I lived lol. I also tried the Euro Trip from their specialty menu, and it was delicious and very spicy from the ginger. They also had their own barrel select of Knob Creek, which my fiancé tried - so cool! The bartenders were super chill and the ambiance was great! A little pricey but worth it.

Now that you know, we can continue our tipsy yelping. UPDATE: Butcher and the Rye closed 12/2020 due to covid-19 pandemic's tour of fine dining destruction. The location reopened 12/02/22 as Apres Ski Bar while the Butcher and Rye concept is reignited. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I've been here before and the food was delicious. It was about 2+ years ago, so I'd be lying if I told you what I ate. However, my subconscious causes my mouth to water when I think about eating here. Make that bit of information what you will. Yesterday I was out for drinks. The night's vict-- server was Erin. She recommended the Snowfall in Montego Bay. She made an excellent recommendation. It was made of a clove infused Jamaican rum, banana, cinnamon, rosemary, honey coconut, and apple cider. The blend of flavors was well-balanced and helped prevent any one flavor dominating the drink. So if you don't like any of the listed ingredients you should be safe to order because they all worked in harmony to prevent offending your palate. In the meantime, I need to make sure to return for dinner again.

The five of us put our name in on the waitlist and proceeded to wait outside. I checked in not too long later and was told we were first on the list to get in. It started pouring rain and they were nice enough to let us wait in the entrance on the sides so that we didn't get soaked. They then proceeded to move us to the side of the bar where the entrance is into Tako, took our drink orders and my friend's card for the tab, and then told us that we would get our drinks and get seated shortly. We waited....then waited....then waited some more. It was not a great spot to put us since staff members kept walking from Butcher to Tako and back. We finally asked them if we could just got sit in Tako and get out drinks there since we were attending an after party there afterwards anyways. They said yes and let us go to the Tako side. After quite some time we got our drinks delivered to us at Tako and they were lazy in my opinion. I absolutely loved Apres Ski Bar and The Lost Cantina (the previous two pop up concepts there this year) so I badly wanted to love Spookeasy but it was not it for me. Pretty much all the drink were just drinks from the Lost Cantina tiki concept with a skull put in it or just a changed name. My friend and I split the Science Fiction Double Feature and it was almost unbearably sweet (although I did appreciate the popcorn container). The Purple People Eater was delightful but it was also That Purple Drink from the Lost Cantina. The Chupacabra drink was exactly the same drink, name and everything from the last concept. I also wanted to like the decor inside Spookeasy since the decor for Apres Ski Bar and The Lost Cantina were phenomenal. The decor for Spookeasy was also lazy. They kept all the Lost Cantina decor and just put skulls, spiders, and bats everywhere. Overall, Spookeasy was just not it for me. I will say it was their opening day when I went so maybe they just need more time to have more creative drinks and decor. But it felt like to me that they're just tired and the pop up bars need to stop (I'm sure it's exhausting to think of new themed drinks and decorations all the time) and it needs to go back to the regular Butcher and the Rye.

It kind of has dive bar vibes but the food and drink options are definitely on the elevated side. They open at 4 on Sundays and I got there around 4:15. It was already pretty busy (and by the time I was leaving, every single table and bar stool were occupied). They have standard booth seats along the windows, hightop tables in the middle and bar seating along the bar that curves along the back of the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. They don't hand you copies of the menu, you have to scan the QR code to access. It is easy to read and follow with sections for drinks, specials (this time they were Wicked themed as a nod to the show at the Benedum) and a sushi section. I ordered the street corn dip. The chips were a bit overcooked and the dip was just OK. I thought it was pricey for what you got. The star of my meal, though, was the patty melt. It had the burger, a bacon jam, caramelized onions and was absolutely delicious! It was served with fries. I considered ordering sushi but wasn't sure what to expect. The patrons sitting on either side of my ordered rolls and they were a nice size and looked delicious, so that is something I would consider ordering in the future. It was a place I'll likely be back to because of the proximity to the theater (although their prices definitely reflect that). Just note how crowded it always is and give yourself plenty of time if you plan on heading here for dinner before the show.
