We walked to JC's from the Dodge dealership (easy 1 mile walk) while getting our vehicle serviced. I ordered the Huevos Garcia (two eggs, hashbrowns, grilled peppers/onions/tomatoes - smothered with green chili, with a flour tortilla). I thought it was pretty tasty! Eggs were cooked perfectly, the veggies were al dente (I expected them to be over cooked, but was pleasantly surprised)...and the green chili was yummy! Lots of better options in the area. It appears as a "cheap" affordable option on google with only one $ symbol, but the prices are for cash payments. No mention of this anywhere until you go to the register to pay. On top of that they add a gratuity charge to the bill, don't mention it, and then hand you the payment device with extra tipping options. I had no idea until I did the math in my car, so I ended tipping twice basically. I order one coffee, and the server charged us for 2 coffees because my wife had a small sip of mine. I didn't even finish the one cup, never got any refills, but she charged us for 2. A bill that should've came out to around $35 was $54 because of the extra charge of a card payment, added gratuity, and a second coffee I never got. Place is just tourist trap cash grab. Was getting my care serviced at a place close by on an early Saturday morning. Was lucky enough to have a friend in the area and decided to go to breakfast to spend some of the time out of the waiting area of the dealership. We decided to see what was around and happened on this little gem. I will admit I was a little leery of the location and outside appearance. It is lived in. What the heck, some of the best food I've eaten had come out of worse looking places. It's laid back, easy, and an amazing breakfast at a reasonable price. I do love some corned beef hash. We were chattering so I ordered quickly. I was pleasantly surprised when the hash was cooked just the way I like it. Crispy! Lots of great stuff on the menu. Cool hole in the wall breakfast place we found via Yelp. Looked like the locals new of this place because it was packed. Messy walls with a creative flair gave the meal the feeling of reading from the back of a cereal box while dining. Tons of stuff to look at. Waitress was super nice in a no nonsense kind of way. Food tasted home cooked but needed additional seasoning. Prices were average and menu had a fair selection. Simple, generous fare that will fill your tummy without damaging your wallet. Sodas are served in a can, and the service is kind. This is a restaurant where the locals go, and that is pretty awesome. Best yet, this sweet restaurant is a drop off point for coats and jackets for the needy (how cool Is that?). I purposefully ordered the full order of the Mass Confusion - homemade biscuits topped with hash browns, gravy, eggs, and bacon. You can get a half order, but I also needed to feed our massive bloodhound a treat. My only knock was that the sausage gravy didn't have a lot of sausage and it didn't taste homemade. Not terrible, but not very good either. After asking for the server's input between a breakfast burrito or chile rellenos, I went with the rellenos. The green chile flavor was oddly muted. The hashbrowns were limp and pale. And my belly wasn't terribly happy afterwards. For $40 we both left underwhelmed. We won't be seeking this place out again and I'm glad we have more viable options close to us. With the economy the way it is, just can't justify paying this for such a sub-par meal. read more

I was pretty hungry so I ordered the Paul Bunyan. Instead of the toast, I hot the biscuits w sausage gravy. It was good but average taste. The omelet included steak chucks which I was excited to eat since I was craving protein. Thankfully the other ingredients had flavor because the meat didn't. The inside of the restaurant is small, but filled with lots of items to look at while waiting for food. Wow, what a hidden gem!!! Golden, Colorado has an amazing little restaurant here. From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere...this place is hard to beat! It was easy to find; it has a big sign on the front saying "JC'S CAFE" in red and green letters. My boyfriend and I arrived on a Sunday at noon and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was super kind and very attentive. All of the staff was really great, the host, busboy, and cook were all clearly working hard but having a great time. I got such a homey vibe while there. I felt like I was back home, in the small little town I grew up in, where everybody knew everybody. Now, to get to what's most important... the food!!! I will have to back everyone else up and say that it is fantastic! I always say that if a place has a great burger or a steak, then you know it's great all around. And they didn't disappoint at all!! I had a bacon cheeseburger with fries and ate every last bit even though I was stuffed. My boyfriend had a huge helping of everything breakfast related, and it was only $11.25!!! This morning I tried JC's based on these reviews. First the diner did not open on time. When I knocked on the door the owner mentioned she woke up late and that this was her place and could open when she wanted. It opened 30 minutes late. The coffee tasted like it was old and watery in a greasy cup. My omelette was one that included chili which was watery and visually unappealing. I could not finish it and left to have breakfast elsewhere. Sadly I cannot recommend this diner. read more

We were staying nearby during a weekend visit and searched for a breakfast option through Yelp. We were seated right away, and the waitress was friendly. I ordered a glass of OJ, and we both ordered the huevos rancheros. I asked for eggs over medium. The food came out quickly, but what we received was pretty disappointing. My eggs were incredibly runny. Definitely not over medium. And the green chili sauce that Colorado prides itself on was clear(?) and flavorless. I tried to mix everything together, hoping it would firm up if I stirred in the hash browns. Nope. If anything, the hash browns got soggier and disappeared into the rest of this runny mess. My girlfriend described it as "soup on a plate." Next, I tried adding copious amounts of hot sauce from the bottle on the table. That added a bit of flavor, but I still couldn't bring myself to choke this down. Our waitress and a couple of other staff members were sitting at a nearby table, looking at a laptop and laughing. I caught the attention of one of them and asked for a couple of slices of toast. She asked what kind and I chose sourdough. I've eaten a lot of sourdough, and this looked a lot more like toasted white bread. But at least it was crunchy (minimally buttered) and I went about trying to spoon my huevos dish onto it so I could eat it that way. Still wasn't working for me, so I stopped trying with the huevos rancheros and just ate the buttered toast. Based on all the four star reviews, we expected a lot more from JC's. But it was definitely not worth the $30 price tag. Chalking this one up as a miss. read more

Cute, very small, local place. Great food and service. Very quick. A little out of the way if you aren't a local but absolutely worth it!

Love the vibe of this place! It's a great family run cafe that reminds me of the local neighborhood diners in NYC. The decorations are all cool, fun, and retro knick-knacks and you can sign the walls! The service was very great and super attentive and you can tell this is the place that has regulars. The food portions are huge. I got the half size and there was no way I could finish it- even if I didn't order the French toast, too. (I couldn't decide what I wanted to I got both!) French toast was very yummy and the hash browns and egg over easy was perfection. I'm not a huge biscuits and gravy fan, but you can tell the gravy is homemade and you can see the food cooking in front of you. read more
