We were staying at a hotel just outside Golden, so we ventured into the downtown area for coffee early (6:30/7:00 AM) on a weekday. It was a ghost town. And some coffee places that were supposed to be open weren't. We then found Cafe 13, and we were so glad we did. It has a very inviting, cozy atmosphere. And all of the food piled up behind the glass looked amazing. We were only getting coffee, but I knew we had to try something to eat. We ordered some sort of berry scone. It was amazing. The coffee was hot and delicious, too. And everyone was very friendly that we encountered as well. We sat at a long communal table in the front room (there are other rooms to explore/sit as well). We never made it back to Cafe 13 on our visit, but if we're in the area again, it'll definitely be the first spot we hit when looking for coffee and a light breakfast. read more

I was walking around downtown Golden looking for a healthy option for lunch. Cafe 13 was recommended for their menu which includes a few breakfast items, salads, and vegetarian options. I opted for the Thai Chicken Salad and a bowl of Green Chili. Both were good. The salad had fresh ingredients and was filling. The chili had great flavor and a good kick of spiciness to it. I definitely ordered too much food for myself! I didn't realize how large the salad was going to be but I was happy about the portion size for the cost. The staff is very friendly. I would say this place is a bit loud- there were a lot of conversations going on around me. If you plan to come here for a quiet lunch or to get some work done, I recommend bringing headphones. read more

If you find yourself in Golden, Cafe 13 is one of the places to be. This popular cafe serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, and cocktails with ample patio seating that Coloradans will adore. On a midweek afternoon, this place was busy busy. And I'm talking like there was never not a person in line to order. During the few hours I was here, I purchased two coffees and one breakfast item. No complaints! My first order was the Cold Fashioned. No, it's not a cocktail even though it looks like it is! It's cold brew with bitters and a little bit of simple syrup. This was delightful. I don't have a picture of the iced Americano I ordered later on, though this was strong and tasty. They had a relatively big menu when it comes to their scratch kitchen, in addition to the sexy pastry case teasing my taste buds with each passing glance. I landed on the Tex Mex Scramble. Tex Mex Scramble (GFO) // scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheddar jack cheese, over hashbrowns, garnished with roasted jalapeño aioli, salsa, and a flour tortilla. This was everything I wanted in a scramble. All the flavors were wonderful, I added Cholula atop the whole thing. I was in heaven and to be frank, very surprised how delicious this was. Perfect execution! Another plus of this place (that many coffee shops should take note of) is the free public WiFi network. Bless up. No passwords, no confusion, just fast reliable internet that everyone can enjoy. Major kudos on this. Staff was extremely friendly although they were hustling around the entire time I was there. We came in early on a Sat for breakfast and good thing 'cause this place filled out fast with a line out the front door. Someone said this is how it all weekend. It's quaint, bright, with plenty of seating. There's more room up the stairs in the back where the bathrooms are at, but those were closed off. Seems like they may have events there in the evenings. There's also outside seating and a large patio. Their coffee was strong, good, and we appreciate the milk alternatives. The scones were fluffy and tasty. Not that impressed with the breakfast sandwich though. Overall the vibe is very homey Golden/Denver. Enjoyed people watching as locals strolled in with their pets. We were visiting Colorado and stopped here for some coffee and food. Their seasonal speciality, blueberry latte, is actually very good and I highly recommend it. The Aussie scramble is very good and they load it up with bacon bits. Everything tasted fresh and wasn't too heavy. The Tex Mex scramble was a large portion and 2 of us couldn't finish our portions, but still it was very good and the salsa it came with was tasty. Cafe 13 is just a shadow of its former days. The tables and hot sauce are gone. The food is horrible. No one in the kitchen knows anything about cooking. The only good bits are the friendly service and strong coffee. But that can't make up for the horrible food and downer atmosphere. What happened? Adorable cafe, with a beautiful outdoor courtyard for additional seating. Their selections of breads and pastries are amazing, and they did not disappoint! I wanted to have the vegan breakfast burrito but I noticed it included hashbrowns in it. I double checked to see if they can do the hashbrowns on a pan and they said no it was cooked on a flattop where they cook meats! I was bummed, but I switched my order to equally good options. I ordered a yogurt, parfait, a slice of pumpkin loaf and a Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Roll. My friend got the loaded avocado toast. I ordered decaf iced mocha with a pump of their seasonal sticky bun. My friend had some issues with her coffee. She wanted half calf and requested a shot on the side and they would not do it for her. It was a bit frustrating and disappointing. This is the perfect cafe space if you want to have a quick snack with a friend or come study. Our food came out very quickly which was a plus! We went here during Goldens in Golden 2025 and it was PACKED. From getting in line to getting our food, it took about 45-minutes, with the majority of that being in line. Once we actually ordered, our food came pretty quick, and despite it being really cold outside and sitting outside, our food was really hot and definitely hit the spot! Cafe 13 is a place that Emily picked out while we were sitting in Golden and looking for a place to get some grub after a very sweaty but very gorgeous hike at Red Rocks Park. I was leaning towards another place when she made the decision to come here and I am glad she picked the place out. We roll up and it was busy for Cafe 13. The line was backed up to the door and almost any open spot to sit was taken. After Emily and I decided what to eat, she had me snag an open spot before it disappeared. She got the food and I got the seat. We both ended up getting a breakfast burrito with bacon as our choice of protein. As we waited, she mentioned there is some outdoor seating that we could snag so we weren't staring at a wall while we ate. I took a gander outside and sure enough, there was additional seating around the side of the building. This area was perfect since it was cooler in the shade than it was inside the cafe since it wasn't air conditioned and the doors were left open to help cool it down. With how busy it was, it only took about 10 minutes for the food to be brought out. I think the wait in line is longer than that. The waitress put these big burritos in front of us and we waited no time to dig in. The first bite was love. It was heavenly and it was delicious. The burrito may not look all that big in the photo below but trust me when I say that Emily and I both agreed that we could've split one and still been comfortably full. I think I was barely able to polish mine off while Emily got about 3/4 through hers. I would've liked to try one of their baked goods but they just didn't sound appealing after being in the sun all morning. They looked delicious though! If you find yourself in Golden and need a bomb diggity burrito, Cafe 13 should be on your radar. Side note: There was this sweet old lady next to us who invited this older gentleman to sit at her table. He was sitting on the wall while waiting for a friend and she invited him to sit down until her friend came out or his showed up. Seating is a premium here with how popular it is. The whole interaction was sweet and reminded me that there is still some good in the world. Since we were done with our meals about 10 minutes after this, we offered our seats to the gentleman so him and his friend could sit comfortably instead of waiting for a table to open up. The guy was ever appreciative of the lady he was talking to and to Emily for her offering our table to him. It's the kind of thing that just makes your heart smile. read more

I have mixed emotions on the rating. Food alone was definitely a 5. The ordering at the counter is a 2 or 3. The unfortunate part is the ordering could be better. They had 1 cashier and this cashier had to stop and get the pastries, regular coffee, and take your payment. The process is ridiculously slow. I waited 45 minutes to order and only waited about 7 minutes to get the food. I honestly believe if they had the 1 cashier and then just 1 other person to grab pastries and drinks, their timing would improve vastly. As for the food, it was great! The menu is nice and simple so they can make those items perfect. The sticky bun was the best. It lasted us 2 days because it was so large. We had the Tex Mex Scramble and the Aussie Scramble. Cafe 13 is one of my favorite local eateries/coffee shops and I highly recommend any of their breakfast or lunch menu items, baked goods, or coffee/tea beverages. I usually get the Italian scallion breakfast bagel sandwich, but this time I tried the breakfast burrito with chorizo, smothered in pork green chile and my friend got the Golden plate special with sausage. The burrito was hefty (in the best way), filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy hash browns, cheddar jack cheese, and your choice of protein (I chose chorizo). The creamy roasted jalapeño aioli and salsa combined to make the perfect kick. They have a smaller indoor space (with some outdoor seating during warmer months), so I advise that you go early or during the middle/end of the day to beat the morning rush to get a seat. Seating is first come first serve. You order at the counter and take your table number to where you want to sit. Like most places, they're busier on weekends, but definitely worth the wait! Had breakfast with a friend here. Wow, what a cool find. So good to have another breakfast option decently close by in Golden. Cade 13 also offers many gluten free options, and for my friend, this was such a nice find. Ordering happens at the counter and you seat yourself. Lots of dining options but this morning, they were really busy. We did find seating at the bar which was nice. She ordered the Fully Loaded Avocado Toast and I enjoyed the Aussie Scramble. Everything was fresh, my toast was perfect and the hash was well seasoned. We also loved our adult libations - a spicy bloody Marie for me and a blackberry Bellini for her. Such a cute place. The service was fast - and for a scratch kitchen, this was impressive. They also have a scrumptious pastry case which, let's be real, was hard to walk by without ordering. We've eaten and had coffee here a number of times when we visit Golden and we are never disappointed. The small town yet updated feel and decor make you feel right at home and the food is homemade. They always have fun seasonal latte's and this week didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the apple butter latte with fabulous foam art on top. My husband the coffee snob loves the coffee there too. The breakfasts are basic but delicious and they can make almost everything on the menu gluten free! They also have at least one fresh homemade pastry that is gluten free. We arrived both times this trip weekdays between 6:30 & 7 so there was no line. We have been on the weekends and the line has been long but it moves along and it's worth the wait. They do cook each breakfast or sandwich to order, not premade in plastic like you know who, so you have to give them time to do that and the pretty coffee art too. read more

Patrons line up (and there always seems to be a line), place your order, and then find a table. They offer a variety of baked goods, including a humongous cinnamon bun, as well as regular breakfast fare. My wife and I both had the avocado toast with an egg on top. Delicious.
