J Alexander's has become our pre Lightning game dinner spot over the last 2 seasons - so I figured I needed to update my review. After probably 20+ visits over the last year, sitting in the bar or the dining room we have had nothing but excellent quality food and fantastic service. A couple of my favs: French dip sandwich, Cypress salad with grilled chicken, grilled artichokes, and the burger. They have a great wine list and I r seen martinis served that looked amazing.

Friendly staff! Great food! Short wait! The prices are a bit pricy but the veggie burger I got was delicious and they were able to substitute fries with broccoli instead. The food came out quickly and our waitress checked in on us. Large parking lot so easy to park and right off the highway!

No need for menu, prime rib and dirty martinis with blue cheese olives. Always consistent, try it!

We found J. Alexander's on Resy and decided to give it a try, glad we did! Even though it's a steakhouse, they offer a wide variety of dishes, from fish to red and white meats. I ordered the Prime Rib, which was delicious, and the large serving of mashed potatoes was a nice surprise. My fiancée had the ribs with mac and cheese plus fries, also very tasty. My only con was that the mashed potatoes could have used a bit more salt but overall delicious. One detail I really liked was how they served my dirty martini. Instead of filling the glass to the very top (which makes it easy to spill) or giving me less, they filled the glass comfortably and brought the extra in a small side cup so I could refill. Smart and thoughtful! Our server seemed a little inexperienced but still provided excellent service. Overall, I had a great experience, and I highly recommend this place. I'm excited to go back!

We had a most delightful dining experience at J Alexander's in Tampa! Made a reservation for two at 5:30 on a Thursday evening and were seated on time. My birthday was acknowledged by the hostess, which was lovely, and then we met Randy who would serve us for the evening. He was in a word... Amazing. Very attentive, friendly. He really made the evening so relaxing and comfortable for us. My husband ordered prime rib, rare, and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered filet mignon also cooked perfectly for me at medium. The deviled egg starter was delicious - wrapped up the meal with the incredible warm carrot cake... Randy said people just come to get the carrot cake and I totally understand why... Though I would come back for a great steak as well! Plenty of on-site parking.

I had driven by J. Alexander's multiple times but decided to give it a try after seeing it on Resy platform. I had a full rack of ribs with fries and Mac and cheese. The food was really tasty and I enjoyed the thin crispy fries. My Fiance really enjoyed his prime rib also. The ambiance is nice and upscale.

Hello Yelpers!!! OMG, where do I start? As soon as you park in the lot, the smell of wood fired steak grilling hits you and the drool begins! When you walk in the front door, you see the flames rising up from the grill as the steak and ribs are being grilled to perfection. I can just stand there and watch all day! ( warning: my mouth's watering lol) We sat at our table, party of 5 extremely hungry after just landing at Tampa airport flying in from Islip NY. Tyler our waiter greeted us right away and got right to it. He took our drink order, explained some of the dishes and guided us to some perfect selections. We started with the char grilled artichokes! Why? Because while I was checking the reviews, everyone was going nuts over them. So, I said.... Why not! Man they were amazing, never had them that way, but will now!!! (Being an Italian from NY, we always stuffed them) For dinner, 3 of us ordered the amazing FULL rack of baby back ribs!!!! They were totally delicious and the meat...... as a New Yorker says was "Off Da Bone" delicious. And then.... Let's talk about the sides! I had the "loaded" baked potato and the unbelievable Mac n cheese. All I can say was unbelievable. I ended up taking home most of my potato and half my Mac n cheese. I knew that I will enjoy them the next day just as much! The other dinners were the grilled chicken (all dark meat on request) and the filet mignon! These were both enjoyed as much as we enjoyed the ribs! (But wait, there's more.......Marissa Tomei my cousin Vinnie). Desert! I forced myself into the chocolate friggin fudge cake and vanilla ice cream which totally put me into a good coma for the night. Also order on Tyler's recommendation was the carrot cake which he raved about. He hit that right as well. Tyler's presence, personality and service was truly amazing and on point. He made our night when that much better.... Thanks Tyler! (Good luck with the upcoming birth of your child) Tip him well folks!

I've been to J.Alexanders many, many times and it's always been delicious! Today we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner. As we were seated our server Thomas approached and offered drinks. I absolutely love the French Dip from this restaurant. It's made with shaved prime rib. It's ALWAYS yummy. Today they had a special called Millionaire Steak Sandwich which is Grilled beef tenderloin, arugula, and creamy horseradish. The sandwich was served with French fries. I have never had this sandwich but took my server Thomas' advice and tried it. He said the difference is the meat is big chunks instead of shaved. While this sandwich was delicious, I personally wouldn't order it again. As you bite the sandwich the chunks of meat tend to fall out. For me, I'll stick with my original, the French Dip. I guess the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it! My husband had the original favorite, the French Dip. He ordered it with a side of Mac & cheese. I tasted his Mac & cheese and it was absolutely delicious. May have to get it next time! J. Alexander's also has a small patio area with a few tables in the front of the restaurant. Parking is plentiful at this location and never a problem.

I ended up giving 4 stars because a few details missed the mark. The air-fried fries were soggy and had an unusual flavor -- with air frying, food usually needs to be tossed periodically to cook evenly. The refresher was decent and tasted healthy, though it leaned a bit too citrus-bitter for my preference. The burger itself was very good, but I noticed a small hair on top (visible if you zoom in on the photo). I also saw some kitchen staff without beard nets, so that may have been the cause. Furthermore, I had requested the sauce on the side, but the bun and lettuce arrived heavily saturated. To their credit, the staff replaced the bun and lettuce right away, which I appreciated. Overall, while there were some positives, the experience was a bit disappointing.

The staff were friendly, but seemed a bit busy and sometimes were not always attentive to the table. Bright side - the size of the salad was huge. It was more than i could finish in one sitting, but was very fresh and I enjoyed the ginger dressing. I was not a fan of the fries as they were not crispy and nothing is worse than half soggy fries that are advertised as crisp.

From the time we walked in and until we left, the service was absolutely the best we've experience in years and certainly the best by far in Tampa. Well done, staff!! Just awesome job! Katie provided several recommendations. We decided to start with the colossal crab cake with a pickled fennel citrus salad. The dish was very good and popping with flavor. For entrees, we chose the Chilean Sea Bass and New Bedford Scallops. The sea bass, was so good. It was served with miso, bok Choy and a lobster ginger sauce. It literally melted in your mouth. The scallops were very good, too but that sea bass!! We shared a spring pea risotto with pickled ramp, Pesto, parmesan that complimented both dishes. For dessert, we enjoyed warm carrot cake. It felt comfortable, elevated, and easy to enjoy a full meal without feeling overwhelmed or rushed. Our server was training someone, but you couldn't even tell--it was so professional. One thing I noticed was how many people work there, and I really hope it stays that way. Each staff member had a specific role, and it made the entire service feel seamless. There was no rushing and no stress on the servers. You could tell they really enjoyed what they were doing. They also offer complimentary valet, and you can even Venmo a tip, which made arrival and departure super easy. At the end of our meal, someone even came to box up our food for us--we didn't have to do it ourselves. Very old school NY!!! Top-tier service. As for the food: the oysters we had were flavorful, and the garlic bread selection was soft and not overly heavy on the garlic. My friend ordered the scallops with risotto and crispy prosciutto, and I ordered the special chicken Parmesan with a side of spaghetti in a lemon sauce that they suggested. I was in the mood for a lemon-flavored pasta, and they absolutely delivered. Both plates were phenomenal. I wish they had a place like this in Orlando. I also wish the chicken parm would always be a special because that sauce was delicious. Growing up in Brooklyn, I've had some really good Italian food--and I would absolutely come back here. I'd give service five stars and food five stars. Thank you for a great meal--you did not disappoint.

They have a lovely patio; it was a little chilly, so we opted for indoor dining. The interior is welcoming and warm. The menu is very elevated bar food and favorites -- crispy chicken sandwiches; creative burgers; very nice salads; good appetizers. Our server, Zoe, was just lovely, and helpful. Bonus for those with gluten allergies -- nearly everything on their menu is gluten free, including the fries. Woohoo! We started with the grilled California artichoke hearts, which were tender and smoky. Excellent. My husband had the buttermilk fried chicken, which he said was absolutely delicious -- he was mad he couldn't finish it all, and kept picking! I had the Wright chicken sandwich, which was also crispy and delicious, and I was all too happy to be able to have a few french fries! If we find ourselves in Tampa again, we would definitely seek out Doc B's.

We aren't big wine drinks - but they are known for their gluten free options. We ordered our entrees and about 20 minutes into it the manager Eric came and introduced himself. He apologized for the delay in our food arriving - we hadn't even noticed - and shared it was being plated as we spoke. Two minutes later he delivered it to our table. The second round of drinks too too long and he again delivered the drinks w another apology. Jim was attentive and professional. The short rib risotto was just plain amazing as were all the other items delivered. I had the risotto so I can rave about that. The experience was great and what made it great for us was the attention paid to us by the manager and the server. We never felt forgotten. We highly recommend. This isn't fast food or a place for a quick bite and run. If you have the time you must try CH Tampa

We had ordered two appetizers to share , and were finishing when she came over. We were on the outside patio , our Chihuahuas were contained in their carriers, and the only time one of them barked was when the waiter came by. We were there early at 11:30. For 15 minutes we were the only ones out there , then this elderly couple came and when they walked by us the elderly woman gave us a dirty look. Five minutes later another couple sat but further away from us. That woman seemed to be the only one with a problem. I should have asked the manager that if someone had complained about a screaming child( which usually is constant) would they have been asked to leave? I really like the food , and the service but we are contemplating whether to go there again because frankly we felt insulted! We only brought the dogs to begin with because my daughter is going on a trip and she is leaving the dogs with us. So we were exchanging them, and thought we would have lunch. The manager and the elderly couple ruined the experience for us. The manager told us that pets were not permitted but I checked in two different places , and pets are permitted on their patio. I feel they should either change their policy , or inform the manager as to what the policy is because she told us that pets were not allowed! Next time we will meet somewhere in St. Petersburg because that city is very pet friendly!

So Whiskey Cake has been on my bucket list FOR YEARS and I'm so happy to have finally gotten around…read moreto getting myself over there as I'm now on the market to go somewhere else for cake (and let's face it, I a new dinner spot). Really, I came for cake, but I stayed for...everything else. I got good vibes upon visiting here with my pup Muffin. The folks at the hostess stand were super welcoming and seated me right away. Very shortly I was greeted by my wonderful server Amber. She told me all about the restaurant which had me even more excited to come here for dinner. She also gave me great recs for drinks. Being that it was a SUPER HOT day I went for a non-alcoholic drink (because I barely drink) and Amber recommended Ruby Slippers, which is basically a strawberry basil lemonade. OMG SSSSOOO refreshing, and when I dumped my water into the glass to get more of the flavor it helped quench my thirst. For my appetizer, their fried green tomatoes. Generous portion, lightly breaded and crisp, practically a tempura. Came with a thick dipping sauce with dill that was rich and refreshing all the same. For my dinner I went with the steak salad. Normally I don't do salad for dinner unless I'm unimpressed with the menu, but that was not the case here, rather I just wanted to eat a little lighter. I thought the steak salad would be a great choice. What impressed me with it is that it wasn't overly large like salads tend to be at other places, and had a great variety of ingredients including shaved gruyere. My steak was cooked PERFECTLY (I went with medium rare). The portion size was PERFECT and I could see myself eating this on a normal lunch day. And of course, I've saved THE BEST for last. The major reason why I came. Their signature namesake dish. WHISKEY CAKE. I was pretty fully at the end of the dinner, so I got it to-go. Turns out, it was smart move so I could pair with coffee and really take my time enjoying it. This is some SERIOUS CAKE. Tastes like dreams and toffee with a little bit of a kick. Moist yet dense with a hearty toffee and molasses taste to it, it comes with a side of vanilla cream cheese drizzle that I poured over the toffee and pecan covered top. It was PEFFECTION. So glad to finally try Whiskey Cake, and I would definitely be back--even if it's only to get a cake to-go!

The patio is so cute, with some hydroponic gardens and a little herb garden, but the inside had the A/C going, so we were grateful for the cooler air inside. Since it was noon on a Saturday, we were able to enjoy the brunch menu. My kiddo had the chicken melt, which was HUGE, and she really liked it. I had the crab Benedict. The hollandaise sauce had a nice little kick to it, but the crab was kind of "fishy" tasting, so I kind of drowned it in lemon juice and that made it better. The poached eggs were perfect. We both had the chili butter potatoes for our side, and they were SO crispy and delicious. We didn't save room for dessert, but wished we had - the signature whiskey cake looked delicious.
