Date Night at J Alexander's!! It is always delicious and where we go for date nights. Simple cheeseburger and chicken sandwich are to-die-for!!! Ava was our server today and 100/10 for her.. Thanks so much for making our night amazing!!! I see people mentioning wait-times.. we have been here about a dozen times.. you have to know when to go. We were promptly greeted and seated in a booth. They are very good at cleaning the tables between customers. The menu is very nice with lots of choices, food is fresh and made to order. It was a nice quiet atmosphere for a late lunch. Our server, Walter, was very informative and brought our drinks after checking on us. My husband ordered the steak burger medium rare and it was perfectly prepared. The skinny fries were also hot and crispy. My house salad with the cilantro dressing was very good with bacon and tomatoes. It was a very nice venue and the food exceeded our expectations. Tonight's restaurant experience was not pleasant. The reason it wasn't pleasant is because the french fries that this place serves are shoestring french fries that get cold before they even get to you. These french fries are even thinner than MD's french fries. I was offered a different side but was very disappointed by the French fries. A place that charges with these people charge should serve more hardy french fries that don't get cold before they get to you. read more

I live so close by J. Alexander's but I only been here at least 3 times. It's been there for so many years & always busy. But, you can make reservations. The staff is super friendly. I also like the open kitchen concept. I ordered the Fire Grilled Artichokes which I noticed that a lot of people order this appetizer. This is so good & tasty. I will order again. For the main entree, I ordered the Fresh Salmon Sandwich with Not Your Ordinary Mac N Cheese. The salmon was cooked to perfection. The Mac N Cheese is absolutely wonderful. I was there yesterday F first time I ordered prime rib and cut medium. The meat came out medium. The amount of salt on my meat was ridiculous. I told the waiter. He said OK it will switch it because they season that a little bit more. No, that's not it. The chef has a heavy, heavy hand with salt, and that's bad. There is salt at the table if I need more, but I couldn't eat it then they brought me a middle cut that was also. Too salty The potatoes were good. The salad was good. The chef should go for retraining and lighten up on the salt. You can't take it out you could always add more and they give you a soul taker what's wrong with these people it's very common around here. read more

Mothers Day 2023 Service spectacular Ambiance usually good Today on Mother's Day we were surprised that we had two adjoining tables that had small unruly toddlers and screaming babies. For $350 for four people we expected better ambience than this. We couldn't even hear the waitress recite the specials...that's how loud the baby was screaming. Of course the mother tried to console the infant for over 10 minutes at the table disturbing all the other patrons who just wanted a nice peaceful meal with their families. I've been to this one before and after they changed the name but the options on the menu still seem to be the same which in my opinion is a good thing! If ain't broke, don't fix it! Omg the salmon was a special and it came with a Asian glaze that was sweet and tangy and so yummy and omg the Mac n cheese-hands down theeee best! J Alexander's is one of my top favorite restaurants of all time. It's SO good, no matter which location you go to. So consistent, which is one of the best parts about it. The ambience is nice, dimly lit and feels intimate. The service is always amazing and professional. And it's also super quick. They have their kitchen down to a science. Also, literally every single menu item here is good - it is SO hard for me to choose what I want every time I come. I love the Alex salad with the champagne vinaigrette dressing, the Jack's crispy chicken strips (best chicken tenders you will ever get EVER and I would never order them anywhere else), the veggie burger, the maui steak, the fish dip appetizer, the cheese/artichoke dip appetizer, the carrot cake (legendary, get it with vanilla ice cream on the side), and the powerful stuff (an off menu item they only have sometimes for dessert). Got the prime rib and talk about melt in your mouth flavoriciousness!! It was a huge 12 oz. And way more than I needed!! But it was soooo good!!! Infrequent customer reporting in.... Arrived at 630p on a Friday night with no reservation. We did call ahead by 15min for our party of 3, which would grow to a party of 5 around 7pm. Hostess and wait staff were very flexible and accommodating. Stephane took good care of us. We never had to look for her and she didn't flinch we asked her for separate checks. Food was tasty for the most part. We dined on: Steak and broccoli Salmon burger and broccoli Fried chicken salad Artichokes (not our cup of tea) Salmon could have been seasoned a bit more. J Alexander's is absolutely my favorite steakhouse in Tampa. We have been eating there for years. We love the atmosphere and the food is incredible. The salads are great, the sides are amazing and the prime rib is to die for. My favorite salad is the Salmon Salad if im wanting something lite. The grilled artichokes are a absolute must every time we go. The orzo and wild rice side or mac and cheese are my go to sides. If I want a grande steak I go with the prime rib. It truly is my favorite thing on the menu. If there is any room left the carrot cake is something you won't soon forget. We also enjoy a nice glass of wine and or a cocktail which they have an abundance of top shelf choices. By far my go to place when we have out of town guests. read more

What is there not to love?? I have been to J. Alexander's many times but it has been about 5 years since I have darkened the doorstop of one of my favorite spots to eat in Tampa. Galentine 2021 thank you for bringing me back home! I was expecting a very crowded restaurant and slow service because of Valentines Day and I am so happy that was not the case at all. With a larger party size, usually someone has a complaint-not one word was uttered as we ate-everyone was highly pleased. I had my favorite-the rotisserie chicken and I substituted the mash with the NYO Mac and cheese! I am very hard to please when it comes to Mac and cheese-but this blend of white cheeses and the crumble on top always does the trick! For my appetizer I ordered calamari-I am not a fan of marinara so I asked for an aioli and my my my-that was the way to go!! I haven't been to many places but I felt safe and comfortable at J. We were seated promptly and the service was good. The waiter took our order and brought our wine selections out right away. We both got burgers and they were cooked to order and very good. I got the steak and loaded baked potatoes last time, both were delicious. If you save room for dessert be sure to try the warm carrot cake, it's the best I've ever had. read more

J Alexander's is a nice upscale restaurant that in its heyday was probably one of the top in the area. It's still a very nice place, has that old school look to it, where it hasn't really been updated but still looks nice. The service staff was all excellent. The prices are as expected for an upscale place, about $25-$50 per person, without drinks. They appear to have an extensive wine collection and quite a few alcoholic beverage choices. I usually drink water. The 12 oz prime rib was excellent, as were the sides. The baby back ribs not so good, they were barely room temperature, not cold, but not hot, stuck to the Bone and hard to pull off, and the in-house made BBQ sauce was very bland and tasteless. I do not recommend the baby back barbecue ribs at all. They took them back to the kitchen and threw them back on the grill to warm them up or in the microwave, I'm not sure because they were even more stuck to the Bone when they came back, and upon return I only had half a rack instead of a full rack so they had to bring me out another half rack order to make up for their mistake. I thought the mashed potatoes tasted fantastic, some of the best potatoes around. The slaw was okay, a bit dry, but I'm not a slaw person anyway. Presentation was excellent. In the meantime the other person had finished their meal before my meal was returned. So while I got to watch them eat and had nothing they then were able to watch me eat while they had nothing. None of the food was comped even though the mistakes were made, which was fine, I don't mind paying as I expect to everywhere I go. I should have known better to try the barbecue ribs at a place that doesn't specialize in them. I should have tried one of their steaks and I will be back to try a steak. The ambiance, the service, the layout, everything I thought was very nice. It was about $80 for the two of us for lunch with no drinks. read more

We have visited this location twice now. The first time was an anniversary dinner & despite splurging on high end menu items, the food was just mediocre. The only thing I really enjoyed was the artichoke appetizer. That appetizer is what made me go back for a second visit. Well actually I called to order the artichokes to go only to be informed that they don't take orders over the phone...you have to go to the bar area to place your order. Well that's super inconvenient. Normally the fact that I couldn't call my order in would deter me from even ordering but I really wanted that dang appetizer! We arrived at the restaurant around 5:30, they weren't very busy at all. We proceeded to sit down in the bar area & wait well over 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged. In fact, we were only greeted after a server walked right past us to help someone that had just sit down and I had to stank eye him. I compare this restaurant as clickbait. Smells good frim outside. Nice open cooking area....however..food was exceptionally disappointing. Extremely overpriced! MY husband visited there recently & ordered the burger & fries. Burgers were absolutely nothing compared to what we expected. We were both so disappointed. Go with Outback for literally half the price, I promise. When we ordered, we ordered a takeout burger meal for our son & when we gave it to him, the burger was broken with 1/4 meat missing! The fries in our meals were bland & lukewarm. We rarely saw waiter, too busy. There was a manager practically jogging/checking thru everyone's dining experience with his head bobbing left to right at the tables, like a puppet. Again & again! It aggravated more than US & was/is a huge disruption to our dining experience! Why not stop & talk to patrons as other restaurants do? We spent almost $80 on bland, tasteless, small burgers? Shocked was an understatement! We eat out a lot & will tell of our experience. Everything was so spurious & ingenuine. I have l8ved in Tampa 24 years & was never ever given a recommendation to try J. Alexanders! That says a lot. One more thing, we waited over 1.3 hours to get seated. We were the last waiting before seated & I had to remind hostess?! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
