Came here for lunch on a Monday. Since it was lunch time, the lights were a little brighter than they are at dinner time. It is a classy atmosphere where you feel comfortable at the same time. We were greeted immediately and seated. Our server Brandon was very friendly, gave great recommendations and was attentive to make sure our drinks always remained full and fresh. We started with their daily appetizer special of calamari. It was truly the best I have ever had! It was so tender and the seasonings were absolute perfection. Before this visit, I've passed this place countless times, seeing the big sign up by Dale Mabry and wondering if it was a department store or a restaurant. Once you actually drive back there, you see it's clearly a restaurant. The menu is fantastic and they have rotating specials too. There is something for everyone here. Plus, the service is great! And the atmosphere is inviting, a bit dark and dramatic. I enjoyed it. Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals, drinks, and dessert. First off, I'm a solid 4+ stars and I come here every chance I get. I'm really glad they changed the name back to the original J Alexanders, the whole Redlands thing didn't make sense. Management . . . Please note - put the chicken pasta soup back on the menu everyday. It's fantastic and I would order it every time I dined there. No reason to only offer it one day a week. They offer a full bar with several outstanding wines and craft beers. Relative to many other restaurants, their mark-up on the bottles of wine is not bad. It does seem to me that they have cut back on the menu options. I remember there being several more. I recently had their cheesesteak egg rolls which were fantastic as well as Alex's salad. Both portions were huge. As odd as it may sound, their chicken fingers are out of this world. Our server Charles was equally outstanding. I was very excited to go to J Alexander's for my birthday today. I ordered the fillet mignon, medium rare with a baked potato with butter. When I got the steak, it was rare and I got a loaded baked potato. They did take the steak back and said they would check on me in a couple minutes, but no one ever came back. Six of us came for dinner last night, and had the pleasure of having a fantastic waitress, Kelly M., wait on us a table 27! One of the best waitresses we have ever had, attentive, informative, pleasant to speak with, just a delight!! We started the meal out with the deviled eggs, appetizer, and the artichoke appetizer. 15 years have passed since I was there and I still remember how good that steak was. The wood fired taste was unbeatable-- what we in our family call "that old-time taste. We live in the middle of steak row on Long Island. I like theirs better than Luger's, Keens, Bryant & Cooper's or Rothmans and others in Manhattan too. Redlands Grill used to be Alexander's restaurant. But I think the menu is still the same. Their specialty is prime rib and I came just for that! Choice of 12oz or 16 oz and comes with mashed potatoes. I got a 12 oz with temp of medium and the temperature was on point! It looked pretty pink but was not oozing blood like medium rare might. The meat was very tender and the au jus added just the right enhancement of flavor and moistness. The mashed potatoes were excellent and had bits of potato that was not mashed all the way, really nice texture. I also got the grilled artichokes and it was deliciously garlicky and charred. The restaurant is a perfect date night spot or a nice dinner with family. The atmosphere is very classy but not stuffy. read more

They use to be a favorite of everyone I knew in Tampa...literally the best in Tampa even better than Publix deli. Now they are shriveled over breaded chicken strips.
