Nine years since my review and Bern's still serves my favorite filet mignon in Tampa. I've been several more times and all were perfect dining experiences. I'll admit that I almost always order the same meal and have slept on their newer menu additions. Not much has changed except the lounge was renovated with a modern aesthetic. Every other room remains ornate and reminiscent of a creepy old mansion. Temps inside vary from hot/humid to comfortable to freezing cold wine cellar. If you haven't experienced the tour or the Harry Waugh dessert room, I highly recommend both.

I've lived in Tampa for the past 4 years and I finally tried out the famous Bern's to celebrate match day with my family. You have to focus on scheduling a reservation exactly 60 days in advance because they book up quickly! Huge shoutout to our server Tracy. She made our night feel special with her humor, restaurant knowledge and attentive service! We started with a bottle of prosecco to celebrate, and then the Resonance Pinot noir - delicious! In terms of food, I recommend just ordering one of their steaks since it automatically comes with French onion soup, side salad, baked potato and onion rings. We were so full by the end we're glad we didn't get any apps. The NY strip was to die for - cooked perfectly at medium rare. Onion rings were thin, crispy and perfectly seasoned. Of course couldn't forget to shoutout their French onion soup. In summary, we were happy with every aspect of our meal. Food was outstanding but the experience was even better. Highly recommend the tour of the kitchen and wine cellar after you eat with a trip up to the dessert root after. Their macadamia nut ice cream was seriously the best ice cream I've ever had. Espresso martini was bomb and the perfect after dinner drink. SO GOOD

For me, Bern's Steak House was the best steak house experience out of all the steak spots in Florida. We had zero knowledge and expectations going in, and only afterwards did we find out this place was fine dining (we were under dressed), requires 2 weeks ahead reservation (hard to get in), and offered wine cellar and back of the house (kitchen) tour. The first impression entering the restaurant was that it was packed with formally dressed people. Bern's steakhouse had second floor and a separate dessert area but in the beginning, it was chaotic with many people bustling in different directions. We were finally seated at the booth near the bar area and it was cozy. This was our first time here so we ordered some recommended cocktails, wines, appetizers, and our main entrees. The service was efficient and professional. There will definitely be a next time and when that time comes we will be skipping 2-3 appetizers because the entrees come with soup, salad, greens, and fried onion rings along with your choice of protein. The prices can be seen a bit high at first but once you see, taste, and feel after the dining experience, you will agree that the price is worth every bit. Every dish was delicious and just right, in presentation, to portion, to flavors. The appetizers definitely worked up our appetite. The soup was delicious. The salads fresh tasting with the vegetables fresh and crisp. The entrees were cooked to their perfection and they could not come out more perfect than this. The dessert area was a nice unique experience for us as well. Located upstairs and private booths, we enjoyed different items on the menu and with the live piano playing in the background, the moment was unforgettable. Bern's steakhouse offers valet parking only.

You know what was amazing about this visit? Dyell M. She was such a talented server and full of fun, intimate knowledge of the restaurant and menu. We even swapped "Dad Jokes" all night long! You'd have to look pretty far and wide to find a better server...! I came to Bern's years ago for a business meal and didn't necessarily enjoy the full Bern's experience with a more intimate setting and tour through their kitchen and wine cellar, nor had I experienced their dessert room. My wife and I had such a great date night here...! Plan on making Open Table reservations at least three months in advance (we did) if you don't want to be seated at 9:30pm...! They have a very impressive wine list boasting over half a million bottles and 6500 labels from all over the world...! Some so old they're from before the Civil War...! The food was amazing and after dinner we went up to the dessert room. So many great choices...! We were just too full so grabbed a dessert that wouldn't melt on our drive back to Clearwater, coconut cream pie. When we shared it later, it was heavenly!

I'd give it 10 stars!! It is no wonder this restaurant is considered one of the top restaurants in the country. Just Amazing! Don't dare visit the Tampa Bay Area without making a reservation here. The Chateaubriand filet is a must try. So tender and delicious. Don't forget the mushrooms- oh so good. In addition to the steak, you have to get the wedge salad. Pay the extra! The dressing alone is so worth it. Best wedge in my entire life. Just when you think it can't get better, they escort you upstairs to the dessert room. Upwards of 50 desserts to choose from, but you will want their legendary banana foster. You are seated in these small cozy single table "rooms" created from huge wine casks )see pics). It's so warm and charming. Absolute five star service. Valet parking.

This was our 2nd time at Berns the first time we tried the dessert room only, which was great. We went back recently for my Husbands birthday and they did not disappoint. The overall vibe and theme of the restaurant is beautiful. We started with cocktails. I cannot remember the name of my drink but the spirit was Gin and it was raspberry flavor. My husband ordered the old fashion, both were very well made and delicious. Our server mentioned an oyster rockerfeller dish that they had as a special, so thats what we did for our appetizer. We weren't fans of the oysters, they were fresh but we did not like the flavor. We both ordered the 14oz Dry aged Delmonico. Each steak entree came with French onion soup, house salad, baked potato, their vegetable of the day( which was green beans) & what's advertised as onion rings but where I'm from they are onion strings, as onion rings are thicker (either way they were so good). There's options to sub the soup, I got the lobster bisque ( no bacon) which was an $11 upcharge, my husband stuck with the French onion. Both of the soups were flavorful. The bisque was heavier and I probably would've been full if I finished it so I didn't. We subbed the house salads for caesar salads which I believe was a $1 upcharge. I got the baked potato minus the bacon my husband got the loaded baker, I can't remember what the upcharge was for that. The sides were all good and well prepared. Now the steaks! Honestly by the time our entrees came we were close to full from everything before. We honestly probably could've split one 18oz Delmonico but we're greedy. I asked for medium well, our server talked me into a medium plus if I wanted a little pink. The overall steak was cooked perfectly but the filet was more medium if not a little under, so I took that part home. My husband ordered his medium and it was cooked perfectly. The steaks were great quality and were very good. I wish I remembered or server's name, I think it was Eric but that's a guess. I do remember in conversation him being born in NY. He was phenomenal, a great help, answered our questions and made great suggestions. He was on top of everything. We will return!

Why. Do. People. Eat. Here. We have lived in Tampa for 10 years. We went to Bern's for our wedding anniversary thinking it would be an experience and a great way to celebrate. Pros: the service is outstanding. Everyone seemed to recognize our anniversary and the customer definitely came first. The hosts at the front door and the dessert room were wonderful. Both servers were excellent, and the bartender recommended a wonderful bottle of wine. Cons: the food, the vibe, the smell, the entire decor, and again the food. As we walked in the whole restaurant smelled awful, and it was every room we walked through. The restaurant is dimly lit which is nice for dinner but gaudy doesn't even describe the decor. For dinner, we started w the truffle steak tartare which was so dry and lacking in flavor that we didn't even want to finish it. Easily the worst tartare we have had. Then we moved on to soups. My husband had the French onion which he described as "decent" I had the lobster bisque which had a great broth but an unnecessary clump of bacon in the middle. The Caesar salad was actually inedible. Soggy brown lettuce drowning in a dressing that tasted like Italian and Caesar dressing mixed together. Shocking considering a decent salad is a pretty easy mark. The only redeeming quality of the entire meal was the Wagyu tomahawk. It was well seasoned and prepared correctly, but certainly not the best steak I've had in Tampa. After dinner we went up to the infamous dessert room which again had great service but lackluster everything else. The piano player which is the niche experience-played maybe 3 songs the entire time and the vintage chocolate "lush" sundae was basically just a super dry brownie w vanilla ice cream. I will reiterate the service was out of this world but the food was less than mediocre. There are so many better restaurants in Tampa I cannot see the appeal of eating here at all.

We had such a special anniversary dinner at Bern's Steak House. The food was incredible, our steaks were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Everything felt classic and elevated without being stuffy at alll The highlight, though, was the dessert room, an absolute must. You can ask your server also before dinner is over for a tour of the kitchen. It made the whole night feel even more memorable. Highly recommend for a celebration or special day. 10/10

I could never say enough good things about this night! Berns is absolute perfection. We went to celebrate a friend's birthday and they did not disappoint. The staff was present and knowledgeable, the food was delicious, and the tour was informative and made me live Tampa even more! We started out in the main dining room and ended up in the dessert room for an amazing sweet experience. The restaurant provides a beautiful atmosphere to celebrate life, love and friendship!

Three of us went to Bern's for dinner on the first night of visiting Tampa. One of us had been there previously, so he knew the process. It was a process without reservations. Bern's opens at 5 PM; you have to get there early. We got there at 4:30 and had 6 people ahead of us. By 5 PM, the line was very long. When the doors opened, we went in, and to the right is the bar area. It is a lovely atmosphere with a large, comfortable bar. There are also tables if you are so inclined. The bar itself is first-come, first-served, and my friend said it is more casual than the dining room, which requires a collared shirt and shoes. We got three seats at the center of the bar and were greeted by a very nice barmaid who made us feel at home. The bar menu is the same as in the dining room. The selection of wine and cocktails is stellar. I had a black Manhattan, and it was made perfectly. We started with grilled octopus and baked oysters with spinach and cheese. Everything was perfectly prepared. We followed up with steaks, of course. I had the Delmonico, and my friends each had the filet. You get a salad and a small cup of excellent French onion soup with the entrees. You also get 2 sides with the steaks. I skipped the potato and had some sauteed broccolini with my steak. The steaks were perfectly prepared and were as flavorful as any I have had in other high-end steakhouses. We had a bottle of good Cabernet to go with it. All in all, it was fabulous. However, that wasn't all. My friend made a reservation in the dessert area upstairs, where we enjoyed some coffee with their flan and bananas foster, which was prepared tableside. The show was great, and the desserts were fantastic. It is not an inexpensive place, so be prepared. The experience is fantastic. It is worth every penny. I would give this a try when visiting Tampa and want a fabulous experience in an old-school steakhouse setting.

This was my second time at Bern's but my first time as an adult, and man was this a cool experience! I came with my family to celebrate my graduate school graduation and it is definitely a great place for a celebration! The inside has a wonderful theme and the coolest decor. The service is excellent all the way around, from the hosts, to the wait staff, to the tour guides, to the kitchen staff during the tour, everyone is so friendly and helpful! The food of course is amazing as well! While it is quite expensive, you get a lot of food for the price and I honestly think it's a good value! Everything is high quality, the steak was cooked to perfection, and even the salad dressings are made in house. I tried the macadamia vanilla bean dressing because it sounded so unique, and it was delicious. The dessert room is of course a non-negotiable as well. I got the macadamia nut sundae, and I'm so glad I did. That macadamia ice cream is so tasty and creamy, and the hot fudge is to die for. Since we told them I just graduated, they also gave me a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream with sprinkles and a candle, which was a nice touch as well! If you come here you have to do the full experience (dinner, kitchen tour, wine cellar tour, dessert room)!

Bar none, this is the best steakhouse in the country if you have food allergies and if you dont it's still top shelf. The level of care and adaptability they showed was extraordinary. It's honestly astonishing that a 350‑seat restaurant can be so responsive and precise. My daughter was able to safely enjoy foods she hasn't been able to eat in years, and that alone made the night unforgettable. We started with the scallops, which were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Taste of Bern's steak, which includes 4 oz of each steak on the menu--an experience in itself. Other members of my family had the filet mignon and the Delmonico, both cooked beautifully. My wife ordered the grouper, and it was so flavorful and tender that she's still talking about it. The service is on another level. The waiters truly cater to you, and the wine list is nothing short of legendary. The only thing I'm bummed about is that we were too full to make it to the dessert room. Next time, that's happening. Bern's is a rare combination of world‑class food, impeccable service, and genuine hospitality. An absolute must‑visit.

I made a reservation for tonight after Bern's reopened from being closed for Gasparilla, and this visit had been a long time coming. We've heard about Bern's for YEARS from some of our closest friends in the Tampa area, so we were genuinely excited to finally experience it. I also noted in our reservation that it was our first time dining at Bern's and how excited we were. We arrived on time and were seated within just a few minutes, which was great. The food itself was excellent--truly deserving of the reputation. Unfortunately, the experience with the service was not memorable. We are easy guests and truly don't need much, but knowing that Bern's servers go through extensive training for years, it's hard to understand why we didn't receive the same level of service as the tables around us. Our server, Mark, felt very transactional from the start. He immediately asked what we wanted to drink without offering any introduction, history of the room, or a rundown of the menu--something we noticed every surrounding table received. He asked whose birthday it was (it was my fiancé's), but that acknowledgment never translated into the experience. We ordered a bottle of French Barolo wine. I had one glass and later asked for a New York Sour, which unfortunately never arrived. Our glasses were not pre-bussed, and I was never checked on or asked if I wanted another drink after I had been drinking water for about an hour. Additionally, every table around us received complimentary birthday desserts before being asked if they wanted to visit the dessert room--my fiancé never received one..... It truly felt like we were being left out of the experience, and we left wanting more of what everyone else around us seemed to receive. I would still recommend Bern's because the food was truly delicious, but our overall experience felt underwhelming given the level of service we observed at surrounding tables and the reputation Bern's holds. Sadly, it was disappointing and we felt overlooked and the service felt like we could have dined elsewhere if that's the experience we would be receiving.

Bern's Steak House Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Bern's Steak House

    What is Chicken Gert?

Do they take contactless payment, like apply pay?

    Yes

    Buy gift card?

    Yes!

    Does Berns do take out?

    No, they do not.

Is there a dress code? Can the men wear shorts?

I was just there and people were wearing shorts. I was shocked to see actually. Never used to be able to get away with things like that there.

    What's the dress code?

Anywhere from very dressy to business casual. Business casual is the most common. Enjoy.

Why is rib-eye not on the menu for one person serving?

A good question for your server. My guess is that Bern's has a minimum size it considers ideal. Consider sharing the bigger steak with a partner.

I see that the menu has been simplified. The old menu had a number of vegetarian options, including a rotating monthly entree. Can vegetarian options be ordered upon request?

Rachel B, our kitchen can still create a variety of vegetarian offerings. Please inquiry with your server and they can help guide you through the menu. Have a nice day!

Does Berns have booths in the dining room?

No I haven't seen booths. They do have private dining in the desert room but not a booth.

Do you only take reservations? Or could I take my chances and try for a table?

You can always try walking in. There is the bar area at the entrance and they serve the full menu. I was also told that sometimes they have around 100 people no show at a single night ... so it's worth by trying.

Are any of your soups vegetarian, or can they be made vegetarian?

Yes absolutely. Also try the ice cream upstairs.

    Does Berns serve prime rib?

It is a steak house, but they have fish on the menu.

When do you expect Kitchen tours to resume?

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have immediate plans for the tours to resume at this time. We hope to bring them back in the future.

    Do you have outdoor seating?

    No, it's all indoor.

Is there a mask requirement for staff? (coming in two weeks) thank you

    No mask requirement

    Do you take walk ins?

There is walk-in seating in the bar. If you arrive around 4;45 before they open at 5 you should be able to be seated in the bar.

Is there an option to eat at the bar? Do you need a reservation to eat at the bar?

no reservation for the bar, but be prepared to wait a long time - be there when they open and hope for the best. They do have another restaurant , I forgot the name and it is nearby.

How strict is dress code and what is dress code for men and women?

No jacket required for men-but would want to have a tucked in shirt and slacks/khakis. A dress is fine for women. Its not a place to rock jeans and flip flops for sure.

Are the tours back on? I'm going with a large-ish group, half of which have never been. Hoping they get to have the "full experience"

I went in May 2021 and the tours were still not available. I am not sure if this has changed since then. Hope this helps!

Is the bar area still first come first serve? I have a friend who is born and raised here and has never been! She's finally free this weekend and I'd love to take her there.

Yes, my suggestion is to get there at 4:30pm

I reached out while planning a proposal to my now fiancée at the nearby park, hoping to arrange a small photo shoot area with champagne before dinner. After one quick email, the General Manager personally called me and spent time talking through ideas and helping make the evening special. Even with that conversation, I was completely unprepared for just how extraordinary they made everything. When we arrived, we followed a trail of rose petals to a beautifully decorated private table waiting for us with flowers, a handwritten card, champagne, and glasses already set. It honestly felt like something out of a movie. The attention to detail and genuine care from the entire team was unbelievable. The manager working that evening and our server were both absolutely wonderful -- warm, attentive, and sincerely excited for us. And on top of all of that, the food was phenomenal as always. I'm still in awe of how special Ulele made the night feel. I truly cannot imagine a better place to have proposed. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll definitely be back for many anniversaries and celebrations to come. Highly, highly recommend.

The pasta was the true star of the meal: perfectly cooked, rich, fresh, and clearly made with care and tradition behind every dish. What makes Rocca so special is that it delivers a refined dining experience without feeling overly formal or stuffy. The atmosphere is warm, energetic, and welcoming, making it easy to relax and simply enjoy the food and company. Their extensive wine list was also impressive, with plenty of excellent options to pair with the meal whether you're a serious wine enthusiast or just looking for the perfect glass with dinner. The CAPPELLACCI ALL'ARAGOSTA was also really delicious and flavorful so you can't go wrong with those two pasta dishes. They do have a separate dessert menu though. We were a group of 10 and our server was excellent! The whole staff really! We sat outside and enjoyed our food+ mimosas. There was a tv out there so i know if i ever go with my husband he can watch his games (gooooo sports) while i indulge in my mimosas. I'd been studying the menu ever since my friend told me we were going. I ended up going with the avocado tartine and added smoked salmon. It was delicious and went well with a day of heavy drinking!! We also ordered the grazing board for the table which was amazing. I loved the assortment of cheeses and snacks. The butter on the board was bussinnnnn! I was in heaven!! I should mention the bottomless mimosas were $25 and the bottles literally just keep coming! Safe to say we were all feeling nice and toasty by the time we left. We hung out for a while without even getting kicked out I'd love to visit again and try more menu items. The server mentioned the cubano is the best Cuban you'll have. Now I'm always a bit skeptical bc everyone says that lol but the cubano came out looking gooooodT! I didn't try it but my friend who ordered it loved it! Parking was easy and right outside. We parked and checked in pretty quickly with ease. Thanks for the awesome service and experience! I definitely recommend adding district south kitchen & craft to your list of boozy brunch spots!

A colleague and I split a small order of smoked wings with sides of BBQ sauce and blue cheese. Although small, the wings were indeed smoky and crisp. Very tasty, just not a plump wing. I went with the steak frites. A boneless ribeye grilled to temp. Nice dry rub, tender and a thick cut. The fries were dusted with Parmesan and served hot and crispy. My colleague's lentil curry soup gave a WOW response. He wished he had ordered a bowl. There were other interesting entrees on the menu. It's worthy of a return to sample the rest of the menu. This is a very good place to dine.

Finally had the chance as I had tix to a show close by. Went into the bar, decorated nicely for Xmas. Even had fireplace and winter scenes on the TVs. From there, just went downhill. Bartender appeared drunk or under the influence of some narcotic. She was moving slowly and very deliberately, like when you know you're compromised and trying to play it off. We had to show her where the scotch was. She short poured our drinks and wandered off. Next was the food mishap. We ordered the Holiday Gnocchi (6 gnocchi ) and two smash burgers. The gnocchi arrived and it was the best part of dinner. Had a few pieces of pork belly on them and it was actually good. Then after about 25 more minutes, we got the burgers. The $21 each burgers were overcooked and cold at the same time. The "pickles" were slices of cucumber with no pickle taste. The "special sauce" was mayo. The cheese was cold and not even melted onto the burger, just peeled off like it was an afterthought. The burger tasted like it was dropped in a salt bin prior to cooking. Fries were unimpressive as well, also cold. Drinks were expensive, very poor selection of wine and beer. Just sooooo disappointing overall. Won't be going back.

I went on a Sunday and had the best experience. The ambiance was beautiful--everything was clean, the noise level was not loud at all, and I loved the lighting and overall atmosphere of the open-concept space. It felt comfortable, elevated, and easy to enjoy a full meal without feeling overwhelmed or rushed. Our server was training someone, but you couldn't even tell--it was so professional. One thing I noticed was how many people work there, and I really hope it stays that way. Each staff member had a specific role, and it made the entire service feel seamless. There was no rushing and no stress on the servers. You could tell they really enjoyed what they were doing. They also offer complimentary valet, and you can even Venmo a tip, which made arrival and departure super easy. At the end of our meal, someone even came to box up our food for us--we didn't have to do it ourselves. Very old school NY!!! Top-tier service. As for the food: the oysters we had were flavorful, and the garlic bread selection was soft and not overly heavy on the garlic. My friend ordered the scallops with risotto and crispy prosciutto, and I ordered the special chicken Parmesan with a side of spaghetti in a lemon sauce that they suggested. I was in the mood for a lemon-flavored pasta, and they absolutely delivered. Both plates were phenomenal. I wish they had a place like this in Orlando. I also wish the chicken parm would always be a special because that sauce was delicious. Growing up in Brooklyn, I've had some really good Italian food--and I would absolutely come back here. I'd give service five stars and food five stars. Thank you for a great meal--you did not disappoint.

We originally planned on bringing some family here for their anniversary but that plan feel through so we made it into a friends catch up dinner. Right off the back LOVED our server Nimah. She was funny, helpful, and attentive. And they are on top of refilling your water so you will never go thirsty. I'm not much of a drinker, so I don't have much to say on that matter. The ambiance was nice. A lot of eclectic paintings on the walls. And loved the outfits of the servers. Very 20's speakeasy. There is a live jazz band that started performing at 7 pm. They were good but at some points it was a bit difficult to speak and listen to those at your table unless you got really close. My meal hit the spot. We started with a charcuterie board for the table. It had a lot of great options like dried apricots, actual honeycomb pieces, and my most favorite cheese, some Brie cheese. The only thing was there was only 4 pieces of bread, one for each of us, which wasn't enough but I guess it made sense not to fill us up too much. For my main meal I had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty and the sweet potato risotto, which a little spicy kick. The only thing I missed was the Brussels sprouts and potatoes but was told that was from the previous chef. But they serve you enough so you definitely will have left overs. Not a big fan of eating in the lounge areas, those are best just for drinks and maybe desserts. But it's definitely a great place to people watch. You will definitely have a meal and a show no matter what. Hopefully can schedule another time to bring my family because I know they would love it.
