Our server was nice, but barely attended to us. We saw him maybe 3 times during our entire meal. Which normally would be fine, but we actually needed things so checking in would have been helpful. After our food arrived he seemed to be done I think it's usually nice to check in just after you get the food to ensure it was what was expected or if anything else is needed. I had the crab and Brie omelet and I'm not sure I even tasted any crab. Certainly not what I expected. The French toast was very sweet. Again, a normal wait staff would ask if it was ok since only a couple of bites were missing at the end. Finally, the interior was stuffy or humid. When we walked into the mall area it was noticeably cooler. Not sure if Steelbach needed fans or if they should have directed patrons to enter via the mall side instead of the street. What an amazing last minute move to have brunch here on Sunday! The four of us walked in and the staff to find us a table outside was awesome. They kept us updated and sat us after a brief wait. Our server was amazing and to start with a cocktail I did their French75 along with their Hangover Burger. The reason the Food fell one star short of 5 was because I felt the French75 was served warm. I'm not sure if the Champagne was warm or the glass wasn't chilled but that was the only mark. Visiting Tampa on business and meeting a "foodie" friend for lunch. Initially found Steelbach in the Michelin Guide and short-listed, my friend had never been so that decided it. Booked a lunch reservation for noon on Open Table about a week prior, she arrived on-time and chose a shady spot on the patio, I was just a couple minutes behind. Service was excellent, we initially were catching up and waitress gave us space to decide what we wanted and answered all our questions. She drank a local beer and I had a French 75 which really hit the spot. We both had salads with steak on them and shared the "side of fruit" which was one of the nicest fruit plates I've ever had. We thought we found a really great place to go eat at armature works, but this leaves a very bad taste. Future $300 dollar dinners lost because of $7.59. Good job !! Tidbit!!! Walk into the right restaurant please... We drifted briefly into one of Steelbach's neighbors on what is clearly becoming one of Tampa's more promising brunch corridors -- and we knew that Steelbach was different just from the vibe. It was buzzing and the kitchen was pumping out food (not the ho hum of its neighbor restaurant). Food-wise, we thought that the place delivered on taste. We loved the short stack, the sugar bomb of the french toast, the biscuits with its apple butter and its honey butter, and of course the tomahawk platter. This dish was theatrical; the presentation is dramatic, the cooking is confident, and the cut arrives in a way that makes the table feel briefly like a special occasion. The downside? The menu suggests that it feeds four; and we felt like it served two. Despite that blemish, we really appreciated the staff. Our waitress was sweet and kind. I see in other reviews that there were automatic gratuities, but that didn't happen with us. She was willing to pull up every item in case we wanted to split the check, but we were good with one check. Lastly, I also want to flag Steelbach's OpenTable correspondence; someone actually responded to us when we were running into some personal issues Sunday morning. So yes, it is aggressive that there is a 48 hour cancellation fee... But dang, that might be the service. There's a real human being behind the app. read more

This place was very loud on a Friday evening. They sure can fit a lot of people in here so with so many people talking, you can barely hear your friends. 4/5 Food: we were most excited about the food. The paid attention to detail in the presentation but I'd have to say that there were no standout dishes that we tried. They each seemed to be missing flavor or very much seasoning for that matter. We're told that the steak is what people come for and the table next to us did order it and it did look really good. 3/5 Drinks: very well done. Had to check back two years after my five-star first impression to drop another five on it. Steelbach has been one of my favorite brunch and dinner destinations ever since. Consistent in serving up desirable gluten-free dishes, great cocktails, local grass-fed beef, the BEST buffalo cauliflower, and flavorful mimosa flights. The monkey bread was warm and delicious and not overly sweet. The rolling shrimp was good! I was expecting something different but these were really good spring rolls!! One of the best I've had. Great food. Great service. But management needs to understand to not add fees without telling people. A 3% card fee is not listed anywhere and you all are a cash free establishment so there is no way to pay without an extra 3% fee that's listed as "fees". And it still gets charged when using a gift card. Sours an overall great experience. Get better management or you'll start losing customers due to terrible processes and lack of transparency. Very excellent restaurant located in Armature Works. While this place is known for their steaks, don't discount their other entrees. I got their roasted duck breast and it was excellent! Nice crispy skin and tender meat that was perfectly cooked. The sweet potato mash and roasted mushrooms brought balance to the plate. I recently celebrated my birthday, and my children took me to Steelbach--and I have to say, they absolutely delivered. I was in the mood for a really good steak, and they did not disappoint. I ordered the prime ribeye, cooked medium well, and it was outstanding--perfectly flavorful and didn't need a thing. I paired it with macaroni and cheese and Brussels sprouts, both of which were just as delicious. I also tried a lemon lychee martini, and if you enjoy sweeter cocktails, that's definitely one to order. The service was wonderful and very accommodating. I don't usually prefer outdoor seating, but we sat on the patio, and it turned out to be a great experience. Even with temperatures in the low 80s, the large fans kept everything cool and comfortable, making it a really enjoyable atmosphere. Overall, I was very pleased with this restaurant. Let's start with the ambiance. The first word that comes to mind is "sexy." Although the restaurant is medium to large layout and, table placement makes it feel intimate. The star of the show was the food. My omelet with potatoes was phenomenal. Seasoned perfectly, oversized in portions, and worth every calorie. I only stopped eating because my metaphoric button popped. We had the Nutella French toast, which was beautiful in theory but not the best dish. With the glaze it was an 8. Without the glaze it was a 5, so there's a 50/50 chance you'll like it. I also got the yummy mimosa flight and was soaring over how meticulously balanced the flavors were. Steelbach is the most consistent sit-down restaurant within the immediate Armature Works complex. For priority, outdoor seating, be sure to make reservations several hours in advance. The indoor bar is first-come-first-serve but the high tables in the back are perfect for 2, especially if you can snag a spot near the indoor fireplace (open kitchen within view!). Cocktails are fair, not too generous with their pours, but bar and food service is speedy and welcoming. Food prices are moderately high for the appetizers and main plates but the considerable portions make up for it. They've added a couple more vegetarian options since I was last here, including their Pesto Fusili. Part of me wishes the buffalo cauliflower was lightly battered and/or flash fried so they're actually crispy but that's my only critique for this visit. read more

we celebrated a birthday here and had the best time! we were shown to what i'd consider the best seat in the house, a cute window seat booth where we could see the whole restaurant. the restaurant felt warm and inviting and all the staff were fabulous--grace took care of us and was super friendly and attentive. they even gave us a birthday card and sweet surprise at the end of the meal! the food was delicious. we each got the ny strip (a local cut) with truffle butter and then split brown butter mushrooms and twice-baked bone marrow. just absolutely mouthwatering. for dessert, we went with the strawberry pistachio pavlova which was a first for us! we also tried the old forester flight which was interesting but a bit more expensive than we expected, a local cider, and a lychee martini which was sweet and tasty. our total after tip was about $330, so definitely a splurge, but we felt like the experience and food were worth it for a special occasion. read more

So this is the thing with this place - First off ambiance is not that great due to it being so loud. I was screaming to have a conversation. HATED that. I got the chicken and dumplings and it literally had no flavor, it needed salt and pepper and some slap ya mama or something. My friends got the fried chicken, they said it also lacked flavor/seasoning. Luckily it came with some sauce that saved it. We also had the grouper and if was just OK. I will say the starters were amazing and prob the best thing. I think steelbach is good for their steaks, starters, and sides. All their mains seemed to be lacking. I'll lead with the good, the food was great. The Steelbach NY Strip was cooked to my desire perfectly and had great marbleization. The cornbread was out of this world. Unfortunately that's where the good ended. A server walking by dropped everything in his hands the plate and silverware hit my wifes foot (she's tough and was unharmed) a man in a suit presumably management proceeded to pick up the items but zero inquiry as to if we were ok or not. I found that peculiar for a Michelin rated top end steakhouse. The server was a nightmare. She was obviously more concerned with the table next to us as was management than anything at our table. My wife and I had to ask for our initial drinks 3 separate times before she remembered to get them. I actually had to get the hostess to go get her to bring me a Coke, yes a Coca Cola which the machine was within plain sight she just didn't give a care to fill it or remember my 3 requests. Then when my wife asked her again she acted annoyed as if we were in the wrong somehow. They brought the dessert menu out and the 2 items I wanted the carrot cake and the strawberry cheesecake both still on their website, had been replaced with ice cream. LOL. None the less I'll never be back. For a $380 meal of 2 apps, 2 steaks, and 2 martinis +1 soda I could get that level of service at Longhorn Steakhouse for 70% off the price. We enjoyed it and it's a dish that would be good for the table! For entrees we chose off the wood-fired menu and got the Colorado Lamb Chops and NY strip. They were out of the bone-in NY strip which brings about 3oz more meat. These were both perfectly cooked and loved how they were served with two types of salt on the side. For the sides- the mac and cheese was perfection. From the gruyere cheese to the panko breadcrumbs it was so good! The brussel sprouts were good too but nothing to rave about. This was my second visit, the first was perfect. So perfect that I drove all the way from Orlando to go back. I ordered the same thing and got different results. The water served tasted awful. I ordered the skirt steak salad, well done. It was not well done and I sent it back and it still was not well done. Also, when I got it back, the salad was an appetizing, probably because of the amount of time to finally serve it to me. Had an INCREDIBLE meal and time at Steelbach and can't wait to go back next time I'm in Tampa! I came here because I was looking for good gluten free meal options while in Tampa for the weekend. The Find me Gluten Free app had some good reviews for this place, and what really caught my attention was that they had a GF french onion soup, which is my favorite. Unfortunately, I went on a Sunday during brunch time, and the brunch menu does not include the french onion soup. Fortunately, I sat at the bar and my bartender/server Asia was super helpful and willing to look into what I could have (the regular menu has more GF options, while the brunch one doesn't really have any callouts). I first ordered the avocado & fennel salad and added grilled shrimp to it, and enjoyed the juxtaposition of flavors. I was still hungry, so I ordered the pomegranate/goat cheese salad and that one was even more delicious. I accompanied my meal with their lychee martini and OH MY GOD - one of the best lychee martinis I've ever had. Not too sweet, really hits the spot. I think I ordered the second salad more so that I could have a second martini without getting too buzzed. And to close, I ordered the pavlova for dessert as I had seen it recommended by fellow GF reviewers. I have been here for Brunch and dinner many times with friends & family since my first review. This has been on my bucket list for sure to check out, due to the location and the diverse menu that's more than your run-of-the-mill steakhouse (even though I love those, too), and I thought my birthday dinner would be a perfect time to do it! My server was prompt getting me something to drink and giving me time to peruse the menu. I knew right away that I would want the duck because duck is hard to find in general, so I get it every chance I get. I had the heirloom tomato salad with it after debating between that and the Cesear salad. Well, kudos to my server who made a great call on that one, as the Cesear salad is HUGE. Plus the heirloom tomato salad itself is DELICIOUS and refreshing to eat, something kind of rare for a salad nowadays. It had the right balance of earthy and sweet flavors to satisfy me just enough before the main course. Duck is always a great choice for me. This duck did not disappoint. Juicy, soft, and LOADED with flavor. I love the accompaniment of the mushrooms and sweet potato instead of rice. The duck was a great size too and nicely plated. The service was outstanding here, and everyone was great at checking to be sure everything was great. Overall great meal and experience. My wife had a peer group meeting for work at this restaurant. I ordered the New York strip steak prepared over a wood fired grill. Wow was the flavor so full. The first bite of this perfectly seasoned and cooked steak popped with the smokiness of the wood fired grill. The protein was accompanied by 2 different salts (pink Himalayan and a white garlic kosher salt with black specks. Half of a cooked shallot sits atop a decorative pat of real butter in a separate dish. Without hesitation this is the most flavorful steak I can ever remember eating.
