Always an amazing service experience! My husband and I come here for both meetings and date nights. He always gets the steak rolls as his appetizer, and I always get the dynamite shrimp. We love them! I usually get the prime rib, but this time I tried the crab cake and it was fresh and delicious. I even loved the coleslaw, and I definitely don't eat everyone's coleslaw! My husband enjoyed the burger and said it was fresh and juicy. The ambiance is always nice, professional during the day and intimate and relaxing in the evening. And their carrot cake is a MUST for dessert! Get it warmed up because it is EVERYTHING!!! Love this place! Highly recommend!

Their dessert on special... our whole table could have shared it.

It was our first time going, but our friends raved about it so we took a chance and boy am I glad we did. First off all the food we got was amazing. The pecan crusted trout was amazing and my friend got the famous Mr. Jacks crispy chicken platter and those were the best chicken tenders I've ever had. The calamari was cooked perfect and well seasoned. I got a dirty martini and they bring out more of the drink in another container so you really get 2 to 3 drinks total for the price you pay, that sealed the deal for me. The server was attentive and polite and did a great job. The area was very nice and felt classy and well decorated. We will be back for sure!

Completely blown away by the food here! We started off with the calamari which was perfectly cooked. The coating was light and crispy and perfectly seasoned. And it was not rubbery at all like at some other restaurants. The prime rib was for sure the highlight of my meal. It was amazing by itself but the au jus took it to another level. The prime rib was super tender. And the smashed potatoes side was also really well seasoned and delicious. It was my mom's birthday so we also got a complimentary carrot cake. I didn't think I liked carrot cake until I tried this. It came out hot with a melting gooey cream cheese frosting. I'm not sure what expect was in it but I couldn't get enough. It was also a pretty sizable portion which was good for sharing. We came for an early dinner so it wasn't too busy. The decor was nice and very modern. The service was also really great! Our server was very attentive and made sure to try to make this a memorable experience for us.

I had the opportunity to come back a few times since my initial visit. The restaurant was clean. I was quickly seated. I enjoyed the Cajun trout special. The rice pilaf and the cauliflower were delicious. The service was great. No complaints. The today's catch and the steaks are my go to's from here on out. These options are way more satisfying than the starters and honestly a starter isn't needed when I enjoy these options.

My fillet was cold and way undercooked They told us 30min after we ordered they were out of baked potatoes. Service was mediocre at best So they get 2 stars

Honestly J. Alexander's is my favorite restaurant. I always get something similar but that's because it's undefeated. This time around I got a parmesan crusted steak (a dinner special) with Mac and cheese and a pear martini. Dinner...phenomenal. I'm still dreaming about it. The pear martini was a little strong for me s asked for a little bit of simple syrup to sweeten it up a bit. Perfection now! It was also my friend's birthday and they offered her a free birthday cake. It was a slice of carrot cake. We both have never had carrot cake before but wow, it was delicious. It tasted like a warm hug in the middle of fall. Highly recommend!

Cypress Salad and Sauvignon Blanc

One of our staples. Always consistently great. Love to pop in, sit at the bar and have lunch with a nice glass of wine. Favorite lunch item is the Cypress Salad. Service always excellent. If I want to relax a little with some wine before eating I usually let them know to not put my order in just yet - it comes out fast (very efficient kitchen).

We had a party of 7. The service was great! The bathrooms were clean. The dinning area was a little dark but nice. The food was delicious!! Everyone in my party enjoyed their food.

Food is good but the place was full of smoke. Their ventilation was not working or not sure what up. Service was good.

Ask the Community - J. Alexander's

What are their nonalcoholic beverages? Can they make virgin drinks?

Yes

Do they offer a Brunch Menu? Where can I access it?

I don't think that they do. They offer an all day menu that covers what a brunch would offer plus daily specials.

Do they serve brunch on Sunday?

If I remember correctly there is a Brunch menu but it was kinda limited... well thats like most brunch menus right lol.

J Alexander's vs. Fleming's?

J. Alexander's is my personal preference, although I can see where there might be some specific instances where you'd like Flemings better. Flemings impressed me the first visit, but not the second. I haven't been a third :) I've been to J.…

My wife got the Shrimp Scampi, minus the red pepper flakes. She said that all the flavors blended nicely to create a tasty meal. I'll never forget that saying. And that's what drove me to eat here ... to see if they truly respect the fish. Cape Fear is a hot local spot that serves up seafood. It's a mash-up of Bonefish and Red Lobster. Semi-fancy but just below pretentious and more casual. It's attached to another restaurant and parking was hard to find. The place is so popular, that I had to park 3 businesses down. Thankfully, a spot at the bar was open but this place was busy during 5:30 - 7PM. I ordered a blue moon and got the fresh catch (blackened mahi mahi) with mango salsa. It sat on a bed of risotto and side of asparagus. The fish was certainly "respected" and the meal blended perfectly together. Highly recommend the fresh catch. Service was excellent! The dessert, a blueberry cobbler, is my reason for the star bump. I guess I was expecting southern cobbler, which is typically a lot heartier portion. This one almost seemed like they had it frozen and reheated. The taste was decent, though. I just wish they'd "respect" the cobbler a bit more. Overall, this is a must stop if fish is on your brain. Highly recommend!

We came when the restaurant opened during the week so we were seated right away and it wasn't crowded. There are several tables and spaces to sit inside of the restaurant. Our server, Ariel, was friendly & very attentive during our visit. The manager, Ravi, was also great. We both got a steak and I got the Mac & cheese for my side. The Mac & cheese was very cheesy as it contained multiple cheeses. We enjoyed it. My steak was also prepared well and was tender. The fries were served hot. It did take a little while for our food to be brought out to us but it was worth the wait.

We started with the mussels cooked with chorizo sausage. They had good flavor, although I personally would have preferred the mussels without the sausage flavor. For our entrée, we had the Steak & Fries. The fries were cooked perfectly and had great flavor, especially with the cheese. We also ordered a side of Mac & Cheese, which is made with baked shell pasta, rich, cheesy, and really good. The restaurant itself is fairly small and intimate, with the full bar and open kitchen all in the same room as the dining tables. I really liked the warm, lively atmosphere, although it can feel a little crowded when they're busy. Overall, good food, a cozy atmosphere, and a fun dinner spot in Raleigh. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation before coming, especially for dinner.

We went with the Cajun wings and a seafood boil with king crab legs, shrimp, boiled eggs, potatoes, and corn. You can choose between different marinades and spice levels. We went with garlic butter and mild spice. I really wanted to try the shrimp fried rice but it was no longer available, I assume due to being sold out. Next time! Upon delivery, the food arrived very hot and smelled delicious. They ensure it's packaged so a leak doesn't occur. The wings were super crispy, flavorful, and delicious. The boil was a huge portion, truly fresh, flavorful, and delicious. You never know what you're going to get when you order seafood for delivery, but we were thoroughly impressed! The seafood boil and wings could feed two people I'd say. I can't wait to order again and absolutely will be. I will say the only downside is the price, it was about $160 for the boil and wings, but for a special occasion, absolutely worth it. I was debating between four and five stars but it was SO delicious and fresh, that I had to go with five.
