Last night we had reservations at J Alexanders to celebrate my granddaughters birthday and my daughter's recent promotion. The reservation was for 7:30 but we weren't seated until after 8. We were ok with that as it was very crowded. Service was great. Food was good. And THEN.... A table came in and the entire time they were there, there were cameras flashing and lights on their phones blinding us and others in the restaurant the entire time. The appropriateness of what they were wearing was geared more toward a strip club and NOT a restaurant where the average dinner is $50+ per person. When my granddaughter went to the restroom, two of the people from that party were in there, one of which was sitting on the floor in front of the mirror, legs spread with nothing left to the imagination and the other was there, camera in hand, doing a photo shoot. We were dining with a 9 and 14 year old, who had better manners in the restaurant than anyone at that table. With the amount of inappropriate activity, a manager should have intervened. Two of the ladies had on skimpy bikini tops and next to nothing on the bottom. They continuously took turns standing in the middle of the restaurant while the others at the table took pictures. The server they had was at the table and doing nothing to stop the circus. Other tables left and were obviously not pleased to spend that kind of money for fine dining to be subjected to a burlesque floor show. We have been patronizing this restaurant for about 20 years but will not be returning. Management and servers both were doing nothing to stop this. We left very disappointed. Two stars are only for our server and the food which both were in line with our expectations. It's sad to see that this type of dress and behavior by adults is tolerated in a restaurant of this stature. read more

Bar staff very friendly, has a comfortable bar area, food was ok but menus a bit limited, the only Ribeye was one marinated so I was left with a sirloin for $45 simply just not worth the money. They have a really great salad with homemade croutons that in of themselves make the dish! There is plenty of parking nice place to talk at the bar outdoor dinning when weather allows. Overall-Ambiance is nice, service was great, food was good, selection lacked. It is highly unusual for me to give 5 stars. When I do, it's either because the place totally exceeded my expectations or because the place just blew my mind. In this case, it's the former. JA has been around for a long time. Hidden in the back of an industrial space just north of Oakbrook Mall. My expectation was that it would be like an upscale Cheesecake Factory. And that's probably a fairly good descriptor (minus the encyclopedic menu). But the service was incredible...incredible (thanks James)! I had one of the best blackened trout I've ever had. I've had a lot. The crab cake was legit. Lump crab, not filler. And the Carrot Cake was worth every calorie (though served warm which made it a little greasy). Ambiance is cocktail loungeish. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. Very laid back and friendly. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. They have a nice sized drink menu with specialty drinks and standards. I went with the Kentucky ild fashioned. It had a very nice flavor. Their food menu is a nice size with options for all tastes. For an appetizer I went with the Hong Kong shrimp. It was juicy and a little crispy. The flavor was delicious with a nice amount of spice. Very enjoyable. For my meal I went with their fish special. Which was a grilled branzino with rice and broccoli. It was all perfectly cooked, and while it could have used a bit more flavor over all I enjoyed it. For dessert we split the Oreo sundae. Cool creamy crunchy delicious. Everything was very reasonably priced as well. I recommend it. read more

I went to j alexanders last sunday, and was disappointed. I have been there many times, always happy with the food and service. This time the service was great but the food disappointed. I ordered the thai chicken salad, which i have had many times before. But this time, the salad was cut into such small pieces, it was almost like oatmeal. We eat here fairly often. Here are the items we love: beef egg rolls - delicious, pasta soup - so yummy, French dip - no one does it better. Absolutely Fabulous. Shoestring fries - terrific, crab cakes - fabulous. I also like the Alex salad. Salmon is grilled, not fishy and perfectly cooked, But doesn't have any sauce or flavor enhancement. My family and I made reservations for later in the day, our afternoon plans fell through so thankfully the restaurant was able to accept our reservation early. We enjoyed the idea we didn't have to fight for parking, there was more than enough room at the surrounding attached lot. We were greeted by the hostess and taken to our table where Jessica (Jess) made sure our dining experience was enjoyable the entire night. We ordered spinach dip and shrimp for appetizers that came out hot and tasty, so tasty that we barely had room for the entree. For the entrees, the cheeseburger, crab cakes and baby back ribs were a feast for the table. Everything was properly seasoned and prepared to perfection. For dessert, the carat cake and chocolate Bundt cake were the finishing touches to the night to send us off on our way. Food is good as usual. We always enjoy the specific items we order, and the restaurant is consistent. I only deducted one star because of Stacey, the waitress. She was giving racist vibes. We saw her laughing and having vivacious conversations with so many other patrons who came and went while my party was still dining. She was going to wait our table but gave it to such a wonderful waitress instead. Stacey did not have the decency to come to our table and let us know someone else would be taking care of us. No, that never happened. Instead, I had to hear her tell the other waitress, and I quote, "you go let them know and I'll tell [the manager]." That was highly unprofessional. I have been in the restaurant service industry and know this is not standard practice. SOP is to bring new waiter to your table and tell your customers this is your new server. I am not exaggerating when I say she gave us a nasty look the entire time she was supposed to wait us. Never a smile, never a laugh, never a kind word. She was snappy and wildly inappropriate in per position to be treating us with such a degrading manner. If she was having a bad day, which I doubt based on observation of her with other patrons, I might excuse it. It was a horrible experience when we thought she would be our server for the whole dining experience. God bless Melissa. She really went above and beyond with us. Melissa has waited my table at this restaurant many times and has always been pleasant. She has this aura about her that is so bright. If she's having a bad day, you'd never be able to tell. She did not make us feel unwelcome (like the former). She made sure multiple times we had everything. She had a great conversation with us at appropriate times. She was fabulous with the kids and even listened to them talk about their food and take their orders (ages 2, 4, and 6). All of that made the dining experience worth it. Truthfully, Stacey was so stone cold I should remove more stars, but Melissa made it stay as high as it is. Dalia was also so pleasant and wonderful. She's the manager and visited us a couple of times too. She smiled the whole time and talked to us with respect. And that was reciprocated as a result. All in all, if I go back and they try to give me Stacey, I'll ask for someone else, anyone else. VERY VERY VERY RUDE! (And potentially RACIST) read more

This restaurant is on target with other J. Alexander restaurants. Basic steak and other items with quality service. Comfortable chairs and fairly quiet atmosphere. I tried the veggie burger and it was excellent. Great flavor, filling and came with any side. I opted for broccoli, a healthier option, and I was pleasantly surprised. Wow, We really enjoyed our meal! The fillet mignon trio was fantastic. I don't love bleu cheese but crusted on a filet mignon made it quite tolerable. The steaks were cooked perfectly and so soft, well seasoned and delicious. The service was great, quick, informational and attentive. I forgot to take pictures because everything was so delicious! Busy busy busy...This joint is JUMPIN'! I was waiting for the ER vet to call after dropping my dog off for a diagnosis. I stopped here to kill time. A friend joined me for a drink. So this was my second time here 4/5/25 and the food I ordered was not what I expected. I orded the Rattlesnake pasta with chicken but news flash.. no chicken. Well it had chicken slices under a bunch of sauces and they were very small. I also asked for it spicy and was told yes we'll make it spicy but nada. Such a disappointing experience. Ordered take out and got the Maui Ribeye. Never order it, the meat was so tough and grizzled, and the marinade that was on there made the beef taste like a smoked ham. The meat was not marbled and tender - definitely not what you expect for an overpriced piece of meat. Take your 45$ and drive over to wildfire where they do a fantastic ribeye. What a disappointing dinner. Definitely won't return. Also, they'll do a 6% charge for a boxing fee on all take out orders. Talk about a greedy business. read more

Thanksgiving Takeout Order: I've dined here a few times over the years after having my first experience out of state but the recent draw was a no fuss sweet potato casserole takeout option at Thanksgiving. While I wasn't opposed to making one from scratch, I found it convenient and thought of it as a great way to support local establishments during the pandemic. Pre-ordering was required and I called once I arrived and it was delivered to my trunk. One would hope there's never a need to avoid others again on a holiday that generally brings families together, but if a solid side reduces the number of items to be cooked, this is it! read more

Coming to this area a lot for work, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem! How I had not been here prior is strange as J Alexander's is right up my alley. Nice Mix menu, lovely ambiance/decor and fantastic service. We got the deviled eggs appetizer which was delicious! I got the fried chicken strips dinner and my friend got the ahi steak. I went crazy for the coleslaw... it was SO good as was the rest of my meal. We did their carrot cake which may me the best carrot cake I have ever tasted with a warm light icing. I went to J Alexander's because it brought me memories of family from Michigan. The inside of the restaurant is huge compared to most in the area and was dim inside for it to be lunch time. The server we had was super and very attentive. He kept our drinks Replenished and made sure we had everything we needed. The food selection was okay, I wanted they crab cakes, but they were out so I got the rotisserie chicken. My friend got the baby back ribs and she enjoyed them. I think I should've also got a red meat or pork, the chicken was bland and somewhat dry. I also got the Mac & Cheese, it was a step above Kraft and something I would never get again. The flavor of the food was just okay, but the portions are a nice size. Perfect for leftovers. read more

It's not too sweet and not too bitter. Perfect balance. For our appetizer, we did the Mexico City Spinach Con Queso. The family loved it! I'm not a big queso fan so I ordered the Caesar salad for my appetizer and my favorite part had to be the croutons. I could literally take a bag of them home and eat them by themselves. For my meal, I ordered the barbecue baby back ribs. Now I was skeptical about ordering ribs from a restaurant that does not specialize in barbecue, but this is a popular menu item and they did not disappoint! The meat was FALL OFF THE BONE tender. Very tasty and well made. The rest of my family ordered the Steak Maui and absolutely loved it! I've had it the last time I visited and I can confirm that this is one of the best steaks I've had! Very juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The loaded baked potato and fries were great as well. Additionally, the waitress and hostess were super friendly and made our dining experience very pleasant.
