We were seated right on time for our reservations........ To a table that had water dripping from the air conditioning over two of us! We asked the waitress to be reseated,and she said she would have to ask the manager!? She returned and said he would "mop the water off the duct work, there are no more tables to seat seven" (even though I saw one empty) Drinks came slow, as we got dripped on, and were very weak. Salads were good, but entree arrived before anyone got hardly half done with the Most!! This caused us to let salad be taken, as not enough room at table for each person salad and entree plate.... Waitress returned to check on our entree, asking if everything was ok. My friend ask if we could get raincoats, it's still dripping! The manager then returned and "mopped the ducts" above our food, and just oaf fed at my friends comment!! We had to ask about deserts, and after ordering, were told coffee would be a little bit, they had to brew it!! Silly me, thought restaurants kept that made! Upon bring our bills, the waitress told us she had told the manager our water problem better not effect her tip! Bottom line.... HOME-FREAKING RUN!!!!!! Myself and a co-worker stumbled upon this gem our first day in town for a week long assignment. And how we were pleased. The atmosphere + food were absolutely phenomenal. I had steak tacos and he had the fish tacos. We both devoured our meal with pleasure. I noticed they served Blue Bell ice cream on the side of a chocolate cake. I asked if we could have just a scoop of cream and the staff was happy to obliged! In 5 minute I had a HUGE scoop of Bluebell's famous Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream! Unfortunately, the district manager (for this district) has gone through a few too many managers, of late. I've been to J Alexander's twice now and both times have been great! The menu is standard American but so delicious! They have a speciality appetizer called Huevos Rolls and they are to die for! There are 6 crispy egg rolls that have a Mexican taste to them. The house salad is also very good. It is a big portion so it's not a bad idea to spilt it with someone before your entree, it will be enough! I definitely recommend call ahead seating especially if you come here on a weekend. It is very typical to have around an hour wait for dinner on a Friday/Saturday evening. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because it is very similar to Cheesecake Factory (minus the cheesecake) and BJ's brewhouse. The Redlands in Columbus was great, so I decided to try one semi-closer to home. When I arrived to pick up my to go order, the hostess went to to check, came back and didn't say anything. I stood there for a few minutes looking dumb until I asked "Can I pay for my food now?" Then I was told to wait until the other employee got off the phone... when I finally get home I'm ready for my ribeye. It was so tough. I ordered it medium, and the steak I had was almost well done. The macaroni was average. I called to let them know my steak was overdone and was offered to bring it back, but I live 30 minutes away so there was no way I was driving another hour basically for a steak that could possibly be wrong again. The manager was nice, but after explaining that I don't live down the street, she could've offered a discount for the next time or something. Waste of my $42 read more

We audienced on a rainy day. The ambience and crowd were on the conservative and pleasantly social side. He had a fish entree, and I had a salad. The way they made it was so full of flavors and appealing in presentation, too. Definitely gone down hill from previous visits. Bartender changed over for no apparent reason. First girl had a good attitude. She said she was knew and apologized for not knowing pricing. I've been to j Alexander's a dozen times. My go to is the prime rib. The au jus makes the already great cut just pop. It's my favorite prime rib. Taste and consistent. Also I enjoy the bar even at hectic dinner hours. What really makes me enjoy a great meal is the service. Just seems like they are engaged and knowledgeable. Dollar for dollar and proven consistency make this a staple. Other dishes of note rattlesnake pasta, pork chops, and the mash potato side. read more

This used to be a favorite spot for my husband and I for years. First time visiting since Covid restrictions and what a huge disappointment. Mr. Jack's chicken had very little breading with a mushy texture and off taste that lingered. Used to love the coleslaw, but the flavor was off there as well. After a few bites, my entire meal was thrown away. Used to enjoy the con queso, but it tasted like someone just warmed up some gooey Velveeta. Husband was sorely disappointed with his Steak Brazzo as well. To add insult to injury, it was over $70 for the two of us, not including tip. We won't be returning after this experience. read more

Worst experience ever. Drove to hours to take family out to dinner only to be treated by the staff and management horribly. Six adults were sat at a four-top. The plates didn't even fit. The salads were served before the appetizer. In fact, we were so rushed, we didn't even finish a course before the next plates arrived. The steak was overcooked and the salmon was raw, but we were treated so badly, we didn't even send it back. The artichoke appetizer wasn't even cooked on the inside, charred on the outside. I dined here in January. Food and waitress were good. I had a 5pm reservation, we ordered steaks and cocktails. At about 7pm, what appeared to be the mgr stopped by our table to let us know that their next reservation was there and they needed the table! She did not even offer to move us to the bar. I have never experienced this at another restaurant and was livid. I left a review with the reservation service when they asked for a survey and never heard back about the horrible service we received. This is a nice restaurant and the ambience is very good. The bar is great and the bar tenders always friendly. My big problem is the service ! This has happened to me several times here and so all servers need a lesson in how to correctly wait a table. When I pay this kind of money for a meal I expect them to give enough time and be organized enough to remove the plates from the previous course. Bringing out the entree when the salad plates are on the table, and some of our party still eating the salad is not acceptable ! There is no rush !! Had business clients in town, and went for lunch. There were 7 of us. 3 at one table and 4 at another table. The table of 4 got their lunch 10 minutes before we had gotten ours. We discovered after the waitress walked away that we had no silverware and two of the entrees at our table were cold. Waitress did not return until it was check time and we were out of drinks long before that. Our clients recommended an alternative restaurant during their next visit. We agreed. Enjoyed a great Prime Rib meal on J. Alexander's patio. The food, wine and service were incredible.

If you're not dressed for a classy outing you will be looked at in a strange way when entering this establishment. The service was adequate, but our waitress was lacking any and all personality. The menu has what appears to be plenty of good choices. However the maui ribeye was awful. The steak was drowning in marinade and it was not edible. I've heard good things about this place just never experienced any myself. Definitely disappointed and this was probably my last trip to J. Alexander's. read more

My parents and I were looking for a good steak for lunch today. Too bad we went to Redlands - apparently the person who came up with the recipe for their Maui steak (off the dinner menu) doesn't like steak as the marinade overwhelmed the flavor of the steak. Seriously. I will say it was cooked to order perfectly. A perfect ribbon of pink. The 'smashed' potatoes needed seasoning. The server was good. Not great as toward the end of our meal (we could only stomach half our steaks...we're gonna try to, I don't know - rinse them off or something, at home), our server came around less and less. Let me start by saying this is one of my and my wife's favor restaurants. However, we just recently went to the Centerville location which is where we normally go. We had always in the past under different management been treated very well. We frequent them often as my in-law's like it as well. But this visit did not fare so well. Up on being seated we ask the hostess if we could have another chair as they were planning on seating three people in a booth that was in my opinion meant for two. We were talked to very rudely by the hostess so I ask to talk to the manager. The manager shows up about 5 minutes later with an attitude, saying that this was all they had to offer and it was being done because of covid-19. This I can completely understand (even though there was space to add a chair and still meet the covid-19 protocol. What I don't understand is why the hostess and manager were so rude. I own a business and if one of my employees talked to my customers the way I was talked to by the hostess and manager they would be fired. I had to ask the manager to leave my table so that I could relax and try to enjoy my meal. I'm not sure I will go back (at least not while that manager is there (one attitude breeds another)). It's sad because this was one of our favor place to go out to eat. Saddened by rude people. read more

To start with, it took nearly five minutes before I could order a drink. And I was one of three at the bar. The bartender then started cleaning and talking with co-workers. She came back much later. I ordered the turkey burger and it was raw. I ate around the edges and said I was finished. I mentioned it was raw and she took to the kitchen. On her return she took it off my bill but never said a word. The bartenders seemed more interested in talking among themselves than helping the patrons. They were also just rude. Second time I have had a bad experience. Seems to be a patter. Just seems really poorly managed. No one seemed to care. Bad service and bad food. This is the one in Norwood, OH. It used to be my go to for business lunches. I think I will find a new place to go. read more

I've visited this location a handful of times over the last few years. Every visit has been a completely different experience. Last night was no exception. It was slightly crowded, and noisier than usual being Valentine's Day. We had a reservation for over 2 weeks, but still had to wait for a table. The service took longer than usual to get to our table, and to bring silverware after they had taken it with the appetizer dish. We ordered the spinach queso appetizer. It arrive in a timely manner, and was the highlight of the night. It is a perfect balance of queso and spinach dip, that is next level. I order the cajun grilled trout, and she ordered the chicken Milanese. It did take quite a bit of time for the food to arrive. The food was well prepared as usual, and kept me from being too disappointed with the overall experience. I'm giving a 4 star review, because of the view of my date in candlelight across the table. She is easily a 5 out of 5 to bring up the average. read more

But while sitting in the booth, I was stabbed in the hand by a sewing needle that was sticking in the booth cushion.
