Gabriell was our server and service was amazing! I had the special redwood salad and the rotisserie chicken had a wonderful flavor and the avocado and cornbread croutons were a perfect addition. Hubby had a New York strip which was cooked to perfection with their wonderful Mac and cheese. We finished it off with the out of this world warm, moist carrot cake. Great service and great food tonight at J Alexander's!! We had a large party (12 and a little one in a booster seat) that could not be accommodated at Cheesecake Factory on a Sunday night @ 8 pm. Called J Alexander's and they welcomed us with everything we needed. Wait staff was wonderful (thanks Kevin!) and we had a great family Christmas celebration! This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend who was even kind enough to give us a gift card to try it. 1/7/2019 about 1:00 -1:30 Ish we stopped for lunch. Husband went to restroom so I asked for water for both unsweetened tea for him and a margarita for myself. Our waitress came over after he was seated and asked if she could get him something to drink ??? Ok so no biggie. We ordered recieved appetizers still no sign of my drink. Food was brought out still no drink. After numerous times of trying to get her attention she finally came over, because up until that point she never checked on us period. I asked about drink to which she said "oh" and walked away. By now we are almost completely done with our meal. Tried to get her attention again and said just forget get about my drink could I have more water. Waited 10 minutes for water, no apology or mention of forgotten drink. She was horrible. Food was amazing huge portions for lunch but I have never had service that bad. No smile, no how are you today. Nothing. We were in Columbus from St Louis. We were looking for a restaurant at 9:00pm. Went to Bj's Restaurant and Brewhouse. We were ignored and the staff was rude. We left went to J Alexander's. Very accommodating for it being so close to closing. Ate at bar. Food was delicious drinks were great. Our bartender was super nice. Our second night at around the same time we tried Teds Montana Grill. Same thing. We were ignored. Headed back to J Alexander's and had the same outstanding service!!!! In addition, our card was left behind and we were able to retrieve the next day before they even opened. Love J Alexander's and will recommend and definitely come back!!!! read more

I just called to make a reservation for a party of 9 on a Sunday for lunch. I was declined due to "the nature of the restaurant " I explained I have out of town guest and needed a set place. I manager also declined to set up a reservation. I have been a faithful patron of this restaurant albeit, the Worthington location. This restaurant will no longer be my to go place. I feel used being forced to give this place one star. Manager looked like a teenager and treated us like garbage. We had reserved seating for company party for 30. When we got there we had to wait extra time for tables. Manager acted like he was doing us a favor seating us in different places. Last night was our first visit to J. Alexander's. We are no strangers to higher end restaurants/steak houses. Our server was not very knowledgeable about their menu and was not attentive to our table. Each time she brought cocktails she always placed the drinks in front of the wrong person. We had to ask for water for our table. When taking our order she forgot to ask how I would like my steak. I had to remind her she didn't ask. I guess it didn't really matter how I wanted the steak cooked, as they brought it out well done. By time they brought my meal out the second time, my wife and the other couple were completely done with their meals. Not to mention the steak was over cooked for a second time. A manager never stopped by the table to apologize. Needless to say we will never be back. To many other quality restaurants in the area to dine. read more

I was really looking forward to taking my grandchildren to a nice restaurant for lunch today. It wasn't busy at all. The menu had a wide variety. My grandson and I ordered salmon. I ordered fries as the side and he ordered broccoli. I asked for my fish to be cooked well and he wanted his medium well. It didn't take long for the food to arrive. The fries tasted as if part of them had been sitting out for a while because some were cold and others were warm. But I can live with that. The broccoli was drizzled with far too much olive oil to the point where it wasn't edible. I asked for the salmon to be cooked well done and my grandson wanted his medium well. Both arrived significantly undercooked. I could not eat mine. The server never checked on us until he brought our check. I mentioned our issues but the most he could do was offer dessert which we really didn't want since we were on a tight schedule and were trying to eat healthy. Had he checked on us right after the food arrived it could have been a different experience. The restaurant wasn't busy. Normally I tip at least 20% and often more for great service. In this case I felt like the 15%i left was far too much. Definitely hard to ever want to go back when there are so many other options close by. read more

I took my girlfriend to J. Alexander's for a congratulatory dinner the other night and we were both amazed at how luxurious it looked and the staff acted. That luxury was also reflected on the prices of the entrees and drinks as well. Unlike other restaurants that inflate their prices, J. Alexander's entrees deliver what their prices promise. The serving sizes were massive, and the flavors were absolutely delicious. Normally when we go to a restaurant I never leave with leftovers, either the food being small portioned so I remain hungry, or the food being ill prepared not making it worth the effort or energy to save some for later. This was not the case in the least that night as we both walked out with a container of leftovers and another for the appetizer that we couldn't leave behind! read more

This is not a review of the food, décor, atmosphere or anything else but the hostess station at this location. Let me be clear...I LOVE J Alexander's. For a chain establishment I think they set the bar...a lofty one at that...for food, service and ambiance. This location, like others, is beautiful....just don't fucking lie to me about wait times! We were out on V day (blech) and had no intension's of eating here as I did not make a prior reservation, but it was late (10PM) and we were right across the street so I called to see if there were any open seats at the bar. I was answered with "the bar is actually nearly EMPTY right now". Empty folks....I was learnt that word long ago...perhaps the meaning has changed?? Perfect I though to myself...I could make some sweet love to a bloody hunk of prime rib right now. We walk in no longer than 60 seconds later to a bustling restaurant with a total of ZERO seats at the bar and like yours truly...other desperate patrons clamoring for some last minute real estate at the bar. I should have known better. Confused...I approached the hostess station to inquire about my prior conversation. I was informed the bar was first come first serve (a revelation that had never occurred to me in my years of alcoholism) and that spots 'fill up quickly'. No shit? I reiterated that I literally just got of the phone with one of you and was informed the bar was "Empty"....but the lost look into their young eyes reveled to me that the arguments being fused together in my mind, ready to be unleashed were about to be wasted on deaf and bewildered souls. We love J.'s. We usually go to the location in Worthington and have always had amazing service. We decided to make a reservation at the Easton location last night for 7:45. Granted it was a Friday night but that was the purpose of the reservation. We arrived at 7:15 knowing we would have to wait. When 7:45 came and went our buzzer never went off. I approached the lady at the front desk to ask about our reservation and she said it would be just a few more minutes. After 25 mins we decided to leave. It was busy but what is the point of making reservations if they aren't going to stick to those time slots. It doesn't matter how good the food is anywhere if the total experience isn't top notch from the minute you walk in the door. We will never go to this J.'s again. read more

Every meal we've had, starting with appetizers and salads, then onto sandwiches and entrees that we've had here has been delicious. We've found the service to be wonderful- friendly and professional. I've been a J Al's fan for many years, and the new location did not disappoint. We had a lunch party there for 10 people, so we kept several servers very busy. They do not have a private room, or large table, so we had 3 tables close together. This was the only negative. I had their signature prime rib and orzo rice. Both were up to the high standards I set for this chain. Several people at our table had coffee with lunch. They use a French press system for coffee, and the servers kept the presses fresh and flowing at the table. I would highly recommend both this and the Campus View locations for anyone wanting a high quality meal, with good service, and doesn't mind a high price. Here, you really do get what you pay for. The website lists the right address for the Easton location, but if you click on the map, it shows the wrong location in Easton. Use the address and your GPS to find this place. If you know the area, it is near the Costco, just south of Morse, on Stelzer Road. read more

The service stunk. Our server was not very helpful with the menu. My husband ordered shrimp and she had to check to see if they had any left. When she said they did he order it. She came back a few minutes later and said they sold their last order. He had to ask for a menu to look at to order something else. She didn't offer that. We had a 6 year old with us and there was not a childrens menu but they did have meals for kids. They must keep it a secret unless you ask. There were 4 adults and one child and a infant. We had reservations but they had no tables that seat 5 people and a baby. We squished into a 4 person booth and had to put the baby seat on a chair that stuck out on the end of the booth. They had a larger table that was empty. They said it was saved but no one came while we were there. So it sat empty. The server put the paper bill on the table and it was not in a folder, like most restaurants. Seemed like a cheap detail, considering the price of the meals. The house salad was a typical salad but not worth the $10.00 price tag. I had the fish tacos which were 3 tortillas filled with a piece a fish and some cabbage on top. Just ok, not special. Again, not worth the $14.00 I had to pay for it. Overall, we will not go back to this restaurant. Not worth the high price and quality of service. read more

We called ahead and spoke with hostess; she sold us on their happy hour (4-7)specials and she confirmed that they had a gluten free menu (medically required). First meal out for 2018 and celebrating a birthday, how disappointed we were when we were told we missed happy hour by 10 minutes onsite (3-6pm) The hostess sat us in bar area where happy hour was and told us she was going to ask manager if they would honor happy hour. We never saw her again and when our waitress came to ask us for our order, we didn't know what to say....manager finally came over and stated she couldn't override any prices and would offer us a desert instead. We asked to see the gluten free menu and was told their wasn't one and that there very well could be cross contamination in the kitchen. There are plenty of great restaurants in Columbus will not be trying this one again, Went across the way to BJ's, great service, enjoyed a great bottle of wine and a gluten free menu! read more

Went here for a celebratory dinner last weekend. Unfortunately, there was nothing to celebrate about the experience. There were a few little things about the meal that bothered me that I would normally comment on, however, nothing compares to the food poisoning I contracted. I ended up violently ill for 24 hours. My husband called the restaurant the next day to let them know. We were extremely disappointed that they didn't offer to refund my meal. DEFINITELY will not be back. read more

Not very impressed. Had reservations and the table offered was a booth for four. We had 5 people and a baby.. Luckily we made it work since one person was a child, but no way could 5 adults squeeze into the booth. We could have waited for TWO hours they said for a bigger table to open.. Uh yeah right! Then the first person who came to our table.. The beverage person??.. Couldn't tell us what specific beers were on tap. Only knew the brand names, such as Goose Island or Columbus Brewing Co.. So that was frustrating. We had two more people come to our table so at this point we weren't even sure who our server was! Finally we placed our order and one of us ordered fried shrimp.. The server (?) stops him mid order to run back to the kitchen to see if they had any left! Apparently they had ONE order left, then she continued taking our orders. A few minutes later she comes BACK to tell us there isn't anymore shrimp, that it just had been claimed two minutes earlier! Needless to say our visit here was steadily going down. The food was good, however none of us will be visiting this location again. I'd say this location has many kinks to work out! read more

Terrible experience!!smh first rim here for my birthday and had a server named Chasity. I brought a group of 6 and she was very dry and barely spoke to us. We waited a good 35 minutes before our food came out. She said the wait was long because we ordered steaks (btw the steaks we ordered were medium-rare). My boyfriend had an issue with his sandwich he ordered and he told Chasity. She completely brushed him off and ignored his issue. It made everything very awkward for the rest of dinner. We called the next day and talked to a manager and he was given a 100.00 certificate through mail. So my boyfriend and I decided to go back today and our bill was 60.00 they told us we must use the entire certificate. On the certificate say to use within 90 days . No where in writing does it say you have to use all at once. I will be contacting a friend of mine tomorrow who is an attorney to see if jalexanders are in violation of any state regulations by not disclosing this information. read more

My wife and I used to go here every other week. They have great food and drinks. Happy hour is decent as well. The deviled eggs are the best I've ever had. The main issue that I have is that they've recently changed management structure it appears. I typically get the cypress salad or the filet when I go there with a couple drinks. I recently went there and got the $16 cypress salad that is now half the size that the $16 salad used to be a couple months ago. I saw that happening but really noticed it when my wife's salad was also dramatically smaller. It felt like a "lunch" portion but with the dinner size cost. On top of that I asked for grilled chicken instead of fried chicken, which I've been doing for 3 years or so now with no issues. When I got my bill, I was up charged to a total of $20.50 for the same salad I got a couple months prior which was twice the size and only $16 still. I was not notified of the up charge up front. However, that was not as frustrating as much as the size was cut in half and now charging more. I will no longer be a regular 20-25x per year customer as upper management appears to be interested in nickel and diming the customer while also decreasing proportions in a noticeable way. The food and staff are great. I'm just no longer interested in a $21 side salad with grilled chicken. read more

Where to begin? TERRIBLE service, just okay food. Initially, we decided to go to this restaurant for dinner to commemorate the first celebration of my gma's birthday since her passing. We were told that we could not make a reservation for a party larger than 7 for dinner. Okay. We were then advised to come in at 4pm and that would allow the restaurant to accommodate our larger party. Upon arrival, 5 of our party had already arrived and my family (4) were initially told by our waiter that we would have to sit elsewhere. Another waitress (passing by) assisted us and checked with management and brought another table to add for seating. My sister and her husband then arrived and once again, we were faced with not enough seating, our waiter, also once again, denied us additional seating (even though we were promised that we would be accommodated if we came at the earlier time). Realizing that we were not able to add another table, my uncle asked if we could have the booth directly next to the table for the overflow. Our waiter's response was "no, those aren't my tables." He then directed my sister and her husband to another booth that was further away than the THREE booths near our table that 'weren't his tables'. I would venture to say that the food was just above sub-par, making the entire experience a pretty bad one for my mother and my uncle specifically, who recall, have just lost their mother and this is the first birthday that they were attempting to celebrate without her. Seeing the look on both of their faces, I went to speak with a manager about the situation. Brooke (the manager) attempted to appease us by offering dessert on the house - which our waiter still managed to bungle. Brooke explained that we never should have been promised accommodations for such a large party regardless of the time of day and she apologized. However, unfortunately, the damage was done. Our waiter and his careless attitude and arrogant spirit ruined what should have been a very sentimental (and possible future tradition) for our family during this very solemn time and so close to Christmas. Not one member of my family (total party of 20) is going to revisit J.Alexander's due to the HORRIBLE customer service we received as a family at such an important event. read more

Two BAD service experiences, food was OK, not worth the price. I actually worked briefly at the location in Worthington and it is a great restaurant. When my fiance's parents came into Columbus, I recommended J.Alexanders and they were staying near Easton so we went- HUGE mistake. First, we asked for water THREE times and when his parents ordered pellegrino, they brought just the bottle with no glasses (after we had asked for it 3 times, I just wanted regular water to no avail). The order was incorrect but we didn't see the server for a good 10 minutes and by that time it didn't matter. Everything was rushed, poor timing, and the server was extremely unprofessional to the point of making us uncomfortable- she told in detail us how she had messed up another table's salads and hadn't given them their to-go food, none of us knew really how to respond and I've worked in the service industry for 10 years. The lady manager was extremely nice and gave us a certificate for our next visit. So last night, my fiance and I went back- the bartender carded us and a few minutes later asked us how old we are, which is inappropriate, and then proceeded to tell us how she gets carded for buying cigarettes. Again NO WATER, why why why would you not bring water automatically? what sort of strange dumb policy is that? When our appetizer came out the other bartender kept telling us how good our food looked and that she was hungry, also uncomfortable. They charged us for Grey Goose Martinis even though I ordered Titos and the food was again, extremely rushed. They kept trying to clear our plates, at least 4 times they asked us, and we were trying to enjoy our expensive food at our leisure. HORRIBLE. When the bill came we put down our $100 voucher only to have the bartender tell us, according to state law that they couldnt take off alcohol. I worked at Ruth's Chris for 4 1/2 years and I know if there is a gift card involved, they can take off alcohol no problem, so not sure why this wold be different. The manager came over, a young man, and repeated the same. Unbelievable. We had spent nearly $400 previously for a horrible experience and they wanted to haggle with us over a couple of drinks. NEVER going back. Stick with Worthington, or at this point, go to a better restaurant- almost every Cameron Mitchell restaurant blows them out of the water anyway. read more
