Ate here on a recent trip with a large group - would be a solid 3.5 star review. To clarify, emphatically, though: this is not a classic Jewish deli. No. No. Not even a little. NO. The downside: everything needed more seasoning, with the possible exception of the pretty yummy potato pancakes. And, oh! the potato pancakes! They're a more than a little greasy, but wow, so yummy. They have a crunchy, crisp exterior, lots of potato texture, and a soft, chewy, interior with a nice oniony flavor. These are not the crappy extra-moist version of hash brown patties that loads of places call potato pancakes. Gotta be honest, I wasn't a fan of their pastrami because it didn't seem to have much flavor or texture. It just didn't have a distinctive flavor like I'm used to good pastrami having - what I tasted could just as well have been deli slices of turkey. Corned beef, though, was pretty tasty. All of the bread options I tried myself (ciabatta and pretzel rolls - I avoided anything served on bread slices) were fresh and tasty. The Goetta they use was pretty good as far as flavor and texture, but could have used a harder sear, IMHO. One sandwich I tried felt almost like it had a portion of soft oatmeal spooned on top, which is not how goetta should really be, as I understand it. So why not 4 stars? Well, I tried three different sandwiches and watched another 5 people eat their own...and none of the sandwiches had enough of whatever "sauce" was meant to be included. There was not even a hint of dressing on reubens, etc. I don't get it. There's supposed to be some yummy dressing in there somewhere, not an entirely without flavor orange-ish hint on one side of a bun. If it messes up the griddle-process for the protein, fine, but leave a side condiment for folks to add as they wish, at least. Location is a little weird: building is shared with a Starbucks, which apparently packs the parking lot. There are adjacent lots (which I utilized), it just seems bizarre to need to utilize them given how not-busy both Starbucks and Izzy's were on my visits. read more

This is not a place to be confused with some of the unique deli's (Cinci - Blue Ash Chili or CBus - Katzingers") but they are a chain and is very good. One of my colleagues sent me here and he was SO right about this place. These guys didn't steer me wrong with the Tommy - and that potato pancake - WOW! And if the sandwich and the potato pancake wasn't good enough - they also recommended that I try Dr. Brown's root beer - YES - best root beer too! The place was clean - the staff was excellent - seemed to be plenty of free parking AND great prices and selection too! Super bummed. We used to come here all the time, it's been awhile so we thought we'd visit an old stand by. Things seemed to have changed quite a bit since our last visit. To be fair I can't remember when that was, but the whole experience was kinda weird. First off they played basically a whole Sugar Ray album at questionable volumes. Then our food experience was wild. My husband's sandwich was missing tomatoes, had sauerkraut when it should not have and was not toasted. I had a triple meat (corned beef, pastrami, and turkey) sandwich on a brioche bun. It was great. My daughter said that her grilled cheese was "the greatest thing ever!" I have been to several Izzy's locations throughout the Cincinnati area, but this one seems like it has gotten the least amount of love so far from Yelpers. The great thing about Izzy's is of course the Corned Beef Reuben and at every location, they are pretty much the same, excellent. Izzy's is the closest thing you are gonna get to a Jewish sandwich shop in the Tri-State area and I have been eating their Reubens and potato pancakes since I was a kid. The portions are always fair for the prices and there is always an abundance of pickles, kraut and extra thousand island dressing if that is how you like it. In addition, the kids menu has gotten alot better and I have noticed that especially at this location it's quite family friendly. I remember when Izzy's was at the top of RT 18 off of 75 and as a NKY resident I was sad when it left. But now that it's back and on Mall Road, folks that don't get downtown can still enjoy their Izzy's. read more

I thought this place was great! Walked in, was greeted right away. I was alone so I sat near the kitchen. I knew what I wanted and ordered a Pastrami on Rye and it was outstanding. Not huge like what you'd get in NY. But really good. Loved the potato cake they serve with it. I also scored a 20% coupon off online so that was a plus. I highly recommend the place. I am glad that there is now one here so I don't have to go to Cinti to enjoy their great food. They would be a solid 3 star if they used good bread and maybe 4 star if they weren't so overpriced. I could go on and on about how it's idiotic to open a sandwich shop and then use "Wonder Bread style rye" as another reviewer accurately described it. Why use mass produced garbich? Instead, partner with an authentic local bakery. Heck, you could even sell whole loaves. It's a win win. Instead, we've got Walmart sammiches. I had "The New Yorker" which is pastrami and corned beef for $10. It is the same price as at Permanti Brothers, but with a third of the meat. The meat itself was good, but the portion was closer to a $5 situation. Gouldon's mustard? Really?! Ok, fine, have that available for the dull people. I get it. But there are countless mustards out there. Why not offer a variety? Heck, I drive a tractor trailer and I've got three brown mustards to choose from in my rig. ...and I don't run a so called sandwich shop! The potato pancakes were decent. It's kinda sad that they are award winning, though. I don't even like Ruebens , but I tasted my husbands's and I have converted to the Rueben Family. Izzy's is amazing. They have a Starbucks next door, we almost did not stop in, cause we thought they were super busy, we almost did not stop in. There was the none stop barrage of coffee lovers in Starbuck's drive thru, which is right next to Izzy's. We think it's a doggone shame that many bypass Izzy's cause they think the Starbucks drive through belongs to Izzy's. iSo many believe they Izzy's is too busy must to take in house dining or take out orders. Which they aren't. We were pleasantly surprised to know they weren't packed to the gills. The Starbucks drive thru almost drove us away, but I had a corn beef Jones that wouldn't quit. I was ready to do a take out order, the craving for corn beef was so strong. There was hardly anyone there. You have to stop in, they were friendly and super customer oriented. Stop in and dive in to the best corn beef, Rueben your lips and potato pancakes you've ever eaten. They treated us like royalty. We are from out of town. We are going back there tomorrow. I really enjoy this Izzy's. Ok, so it's the only location I've been to so I guess I can't compare vs the others. But they've always been great here, whether I take-out or dine-in. My usual order is different variations of the variety plate... delicious every time. What really stood out to me was a time when a waitress accidentally spilled some drink on a person in our group, and we all got offered free cookies. That is good customer service! What I also love about this place: open til 10pm, good coupons in the monthly circular, those awesome potato pancakes, and a great dessert selection. Yum. read more

Just my luck! I live in California, but come to Cincinnati often, and enjoy a great Izzys sandwich when I visit. This time, especially after Thanksgiving and being turkey'd out, I was really looking forward to a good corned beef and pastrami sandwich, the New Yorker. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly as usual, and I walked out the door with my to-go order with a smile on my face, and anticipation of a good old New York corned beef and pastrami. When I got back to my room, what I found in my sandwich was a few slices of pastrami, and a big old pile of...TURKEY! I don't believe they even have a sandwich on the menu with this combination, unless you're ordering a build your own sandwich. I had very specifically said the New Yorker when I ordered. Great experience! Anytime someone sits a small crock of handmade (fresh) pickles upon your table at the start of dinner service you know it's going to be a meal that makes your heart smile! Well I was right! Small quick service restaurant. Serves beer bottles. Potato pancake wasn't my fav, couldn't eat it bc it was so fluffy and greasy all in the same bite lol. Just thinking about Jewish delis and cured meats puts me in a Pavlovian trance. Not kidding. Whenever I think about pastrami my mouth begins to water and I need to quickly get what I am jonesing for. I lived in NYC during college and have had all the legends, and when I think of pastrami not much holds a candle to 2nd Ave Deli and Katz's, but Izzy's does hold its own in the Reubens department. Their Reubens, piled high with their delicious corn beef, kraut and Swiss cheese, are to die for. Also their potato pancakes are fantastic! The size of funnel cakes, these fried, starch laden, heart attack monsters, come with every sandwich and are great with spicy brown mustard. If you are feeling really adventurous there are some creative sandwiches to try. The Jeff Ruby, which has tons of goodies including slaw and chicken liver. For the more health conscience there is the Turkey Reuben served on a soft ciabatta bread, granted the thing is covered in 1000 island dressing and Swiss chess, so not sure how healthy it is for you. The portions are always good sizes, giving you enough to be a glutton for the day, or to have half a sandwich for a snack latter in the day. Oh and did I mention the pickles??? All you can eat at the tables, and when you want more you can buy them at Kroger. I take jars of these things back to NYC and give them as gifts. Does this Izzy's have its drawbacks? Sure. For one the restaurant itself is pretty generic and sterile. You can tell the bread is nothing special, and don't even get me started on the pastrami. Once you have had the real deal you just can't go back. But for being a proud Deli dating over 100 years and to have survived being in Florence for several years, you have to be doing something right. Here you won't feel like a movie star in NYC, but you can enjoy a great sandwich and reconnect with Cincinnati's proud Jewish heritage. Mazel Tov! read more

I have only gotten take-out from this deli, so I can't relate to the other yelpers' complaints about the kraut and pickles on the tables. My favorite part about about Izzy's is the giant potato pancake that you get with the deli sandwiches. It is extremely most and flavorful - and warm! I ate mine in less than a minute and was bargaining with my husband for his. I've ordered the reuben several times and have been perfectly satisified. For Kentucky (or southern Ohio, as it seems to be a Cincinnati establishment), a good deli sandwich is hard to come by, so yay for Izzy's! read more

Saw the commercial on TV and knew I needed to try this place. I love Reuben's and I'm pretty sure I just ate the best Reuben in the world! Pickles were delicious, coleslaw was great & the potato pancake was to die for. I'm sad I only got a half instead of a full. This restaurant is quite accessible for wheelchairs and those who have mobility issues and when I noticed a small problem for mobility in the rest rooms, the staff were not only happy to make the adjustment but thanked me for bringing it to their attention so that they could better serve their customers. We were very pleased with our first experience at Izzy's. I had the daily special with the 1/2 "Izzy's Famous Reuben", beef barley soup, and a potato cake. My wife had the 1/2 "Izzy's Famous Reuben" and a potato cake. My mom had 1/2 Pastrami Reuben on a pretzel roll, sweet and sour cabbage soup, with a potato cake.
