A friend suggested this *Black Owned Restaurant* to me over a year ago and I've been a customer ever since. When you walk in, you see a lot of bright colors and plants, and family photos. It feels personal, like you are in Chef Mike's home. He is wonderful-- really warm and inviting, and I love being able to see him make my meals via the exposed kitchen. The backyard is gorgeous, they just got it redone. I've been here a ton of times, and everything I've had has been *amazing*, though the salmon and the Thai stew curry are my favorites. This restaurant has been around for a minute, so it's very much a fixture of the community. Often times when I'd eat here, locals stop by just to say hi. Always good vibes and good people! read more

My friend sent me a link to check it out and it looked yummy nice variety prices good. I ordered the seitan pepper steak soo good and a side of brown rice and my friend had the stew (forgot the name) and that was as good as my dish. The ambiance was low key but in a good way and the owner/chef was very personable ...nice people!!! Service was on point too!!! The water was served in a decorative glass decanter and ice cold!! Although my friend likes his Luke warm (yuck lol) luke warm like tap water another (yuk) It was a very pleasant experience we will be back for sure!!!!The decor was hipster/sporty/antiques liked it all!. I dined here on Friday night and had the Acai smoothie and a turmeric soup. A few hours later I was headed out on the subway and had to promptly exit because of stomach pain. I luckily found a bathroom and I had the worst loose bowels. I couldn't get back on the train because I felt so horrible so I took a lyft back to my apartment. Once I got there I immediately ran into the bathroom and had more loose bowels and was vomiting simultaneously. Such good healthy well-seasoned flavorful food!!! Also Micheal, the owner is amazing and has his heart in the flavors. The vegetarian jerk chicken was marinated in spices with a subtle sweetness. We also got the "Yes i" smoothie which is full of açaí berries, sea moss and mango blended to be perfectly flavorful healthy and super tasty. Not impressed. We had bought our son a gift certificate to this place and he seemed to like it so we thought we would give it a go. Friday night arrived at 7:50. Small place vegan vegetarian options. The place was sweltering hot inside and out food arrived at 9:30 pm. Yes it took over an hour. I had ordered the chow main and did not eat it. The noodles tasted undercooked and and there was not much to it. My party ordered other options jerk chicken, stew and something else. I was so disappointed and underwhelmed I got up after eating two bites to leave my family to finish there food. I've been in the restaurant business for over 30 years, I get everyone has a bad night, but this was bad. My wife said she has never seen me act like this before and she is right, I was extremely disappointed. read more

This place has such a warm, cool vibe, like you're traveling and just stumbled into someone's kitchen. The new backyard is beautiful and there's wifi so you can also do work during the day. BYOB, this place is a well kept secret I'm only writing about because I'm scared it's too well hidden and won't be supported enough. A friend bookmarked this place and we walked in off of a whim. The outside seating is cute and very cozy, feels like you're eating out back of a friend's place. I'll jump right in and say that the food is DELICIOUS! We got the Kale salad for the table and they should seriously bottle and sell the dressing. It was THAT good. The food took a little longer than we anticipated and the hostess agreed that service is still improving but once I put a morsel of the Veggie Jerk Chicken in my mouth it all became well worth the wait. Walking in I felt right at home ... And once the pleasant woman greeted us I felt even more welcome ! Great atmosphere great smells of natural food ! Our delicious soup came out quickly and was the closest thing to home cooking I've ever had in a restaurant ! Salad was fresh and lightly seasoned to perfection ! We ordered the jerk seitan and the chow mien ! Both were delicious ' the jerk was the best jerk seasoning I've ever eaten ! Everything else we ordered was very nice ! Like everyone else, I had the best dining experience here. Flavors are amazing. It's mostly vegan/veg, but we also had the catch of the day - salmon when we were there - and it was super moist and flakey. The staff here is amazing - the chef and all the servers. We had such a great laid back dinner hanging with them. Also, the fact that it's BYOB and the entrees are all $15 or less means that you leave having spent very little. So I had one good experience here before. The food was delicious though the portions were small. It did take awhile to get our food and there was only one other table present. Waitstaff not really attentive or actively checking on us. But me and my date were low maintenance so didn't matter at the time. Fast forward to 6 months later. My sister is visiting from out of town and I really wanted to have her try authentic vegan Caribbean food. We arrive about 15min after they were supposed to open. Someone's sleeping at a table and the other person doesn't greet us. After an awkward confused minute sleeping beauty wakes up and says, sorry were not open yet. And I said I was confused I thought they opened at 2p and the door was unlocked. She said that the chef wasn't here yet and to come back in half an hour!! Which is outrageous. No apology or offer to wait inside in freezing 30 degree weather. So of course we leave. And then another employee just arriving says the chef should be here in 5ish minutes!! Second time went there on a date to find out that they have a back yard. The interior is very funky in a good way. At night the place lights up and adds even more romance. I typically don't eat vegetarian but someone told me I should try this place out. When I entered I was greeted warmly by the staff. I was unsure of what to try so one of the chef's suggested I try the wild rice and jerk chicken (that's not chicken) with a salad and a side of ginger lemonade. I must add that everything was AWESOME. I licked the plate clean. I saw there Sunday brunch menu and I MUST go back and visit for the coconut pancakes with sorrel syrup. A must try again. read more

My experience here was mediocre. The food was tasty-probably worth about 4 stars -however the service left a lot to be desired. Upon walking into the restaurant, I was not greeted for about 1 min even though it was empty which was awkward at best. I cant believe I've never written this place a review. Literally my favorite place to eat out. LOVE Chef Mikey and the whole staff, which is mostly his family members (support local, family-owned businesses people!!!) and absolutely die for his food. The spicy green thumb salad is a must, so fresh and well dressed and healthy. The BK Chow mein is how all chow mein should be--full of sliced carrots, cabbages, water chestnuts, etc. The veggie burger is delicious, as is the spicy kale, the red hot stepper, the plantains, I mean the whole menus is fabulous. the stew is perfection, ital cooking at its finest! The ginger lemonade and fruit (sea) moss is also spectacular. The best things about Ital Kitchen? You can watch chef cook making your meal, you can ask him about food and life, you get SUPER hungry smelling all the aromas as he prepares it, he has great music (usually reggae) playing, you can bring your own bottle(s) of delicious adult beverages and give thanks for life!!! People, especially New Yorkers, get used to instantaneous gratification in all senses of that phrase--but good food takes time and love...this is the definition of ital cooking! so go and be prepared for much more than a transaction of money for food. read more

My girlfriend and I are new to the block and tried Ital on a whim since it's close. We were blown away by the welcoming staff and outstanding veggie food. Ital is small like a cafe, but with an open kitchen, so you can carry on a conversation with the chef while you're food is being prepped if you want, but it's still quiet enough that you can keep to yourself. This one star isn't for the food, but because after spending the afternoon at the Brooklyn Museum, we were very hungry and sought out this restaurant. According to Yelp and their website, they were open. Perhaps we should have called, but it was a Saturday afternoon and there was no obvious reason why it wouldn't be open. It was closed up. And there aren't that may vegan or raw restos nearby, but we could have made other plans. Of course we will call next time, but they could also put on the website that they are closed, or to call to check because they sometime close unexpectedly. read more
