I placed an order on the phone and paid it when i picked up and almost paid $3-$4 more for each item. I checked the price on doordash it is cheaper than what i paid for. They do not give you detail receipt for what you paid for it. I would definitely ask the staff before paying for your order.The reason was the increasing the price because of mothers days. Always a solid choice for Turkish food in the area. I believe they've updated the restaurant to now include a little bakery area, so once you're done with your meal, stop by the next room for a sweet treat! I ended up ordering a falafel plate and a turkish coffee for lunch and was surprised by how quickly it came out! Falafel itself, very crunchy exterior which was nice. Good flavor but it was made even better with the yogurt sauce on the side. The rice was nicely seasoned and it came with a side salad. The coffee itself, nice and sweet. Although tiny, it kept me energized throughout the day without the jitters. Service was serviceable but I will still be back for more! I didnt think anything of this place because of the location. Dont be fooled, it is a nice authentic turkish restaurant! Excellent food, nice atmosphere. So far i have gotten the lamb shank, and a few adana dishes, all great, very flavorful. Make sure to check out the bakery, the pastries cake and baklava are amazing as well. Got one of each also ordered a lamb shish kebab sandwich plain, A spinach pie, and a kunefe for dessert. The restaurant is clean and beautiful. The service was good, but I definitely feel like I was way overcharged for what I received and some of the food was not that great! The lamb shank was tender, but just very plain no flavor whatsoever the stuff zucchini was the best item and I would order that again. The spinach pie was also good but kind of small but tasty,..and the kunefe was really delicious! The lamb shish kebab meat was good also. The part that bothers me most is my bill was $85 and I don't feel like it should've been more than $75. When I used to live in Centereach, I always come here to get chicken shish entree and the chicken tastes so good! The platter is really filling because they give a lot of food although it is pricey, the quality and taste is still good. They also have tv screens for people who want to watch sports. After a tough morning, I was looking for a nearby Turkish restaurant in an area my family and I were not familiar with and found this on Yelp with high reviews and only 15 min away. We were blown away by the speed and quality, it was 1pm on a Saturday though but still everything came out quick and fresh. Would absolutely never go to this place. We came and were told it was a 10-15 minute wait for 9 adults and 2 children. We waited about 30 minutes and then asked for an update. We were then told that they had no idea and then someone else told us that they are too busy and since we didn't have reservation they weren't going to seat us at all. Attitude and tonality of the staff was disrespectful and condescending. We had one of the staff members ask if we wanted to split our party and sit separately we said that was fine and as we are waiting they started speaking amongst themselves and 5 minutes later they tell us we need to keep waiting and they aren't going to give the table and another server comes and says we need to wait outside in our cars and no longer inside. We would have gladly waited outside, issue was more the attitude. We could have gone somewhere else instead of waiting over 30 minutes and not get to eat or go anywhere else. read more

Today was an Islamic holiday so the bakery had these beautiful red chocolate boxes where you mix and match which pieces of chocolate you want. This seems like a nice family-owned business. The restaurant felt super homey with decorative plates and art on the walls and shelves plus Turkish music playing in the background. The food was of good quality. I ordered the adana sandwich and the knafeh (kenefe is how it's as spelled on their menu) and loved both. I do think the rolled adana was not done well and fell apart and was rather small, but was filling. The knafeh skimped a bit on the cheese and went heavier on the vermicelli layer but still tasted great. Given the sizes of the items, it was a bit on the pricier side but I am very happy and nourished. I saw the lots of gullac in the dessert windows and will definitely come back again to sample some! read more

Made our first visit tonight to Istanbul Cafe after a local movie, the main draws being we love any kind of Mediterranean cuisine and that they were open late. Well, all we can say is happy new year to us!! This could not have possibly been a better experience, due to the warm, friendly staff (we spoke with four different individuals, each one nicer than the other) and the delicious, fresh and well-seasoned dishes we ordered. The two of us shared the tangy, tasty esme as a starter, a generous portion for 2-3, accompanied by a basket of warm, fluffy pide - all of which we made short order of. Entrees were a chicken shish platter for me, which featured nine big, juicy chunks of chargrilled chicken, a bright mixed salad of lettuce, tomato, pickled purple cabbage, fresh tomato, onion, and grilled pepper and tomato, with dressing on the side - not needed, as the flavors of the ingredients were perfect on their own. A mound of moist and flavorful red rice and round of unleavened flatbread completed the offering. My husband ordered the spinach pide, a truly huge plate of thin, golden-crusted pieces of Turkish bread, stuffed with a mixture of fresh chopped spinach and onions and, I believe, cheese. To tell the truth, I was too busy enjoying my own food to pay full attention to his, and as we never post Yelp reviews, no reason to do so, as I never planned to be writing this!! Bottom line: Food was terrific, service well-paced and super-lovely, and they never rushed us at all, despite the fact that we were their last customers to leave the dining room at just after 11:00pm. On the way out, we longingly perused their colorful cases of tempting homemade desserts, and even after making it clear we did not plan to order anything - being stuffed already, despite each of us taking home half our meal - staff patiently took the time to explain various items to us, including their Turkish take on a tres leches cake, and two customers (apparently regulars) made various recommendations, singling out the rice pudding as a particular winner. As we left, me lamenting that I'd gone back on Weight Watchers just this morning, our waitress appeared from the kitchen bearing a paper bag "from the boss," with (and I just opened it right this second, after arriving home) a large square of the aforementioned Turkish tres leches-type cake, which I had mentioned was my husband's favorite. Just handed it to him, and his comment was "Wow, it's heavy!! I had a feeling this was what was in the bag, but I didn't realize it would be this humongous a piece!!" I can't tell you how very much this completely unexpected kindness meant and means to us. Many, many thanks to all at Istanbul Cafe for a nothing-but-wonderful experience tonight. A dollop of each of the beautiful salads and dips. The kabobs are terrific as a wrap or a main dish. The gyro in yogurt sauce is killer. The greek salad was just picked fresh and with grilled chicken, a meal. Note, all dishes are huge and there will be leftovers to take home. The bake shop in the restaurant has as a huge selection of freshly baked cakes, cookies, and a selection of baklavas. The cakes are phenomenal as are the baklavas. The cookies are available as sweet or savory. The hazelnut cookies are rich, buttery, and flavorful. Service is friendly, professional, and attentive. The chicken was not seasoned and did not taste authentic. I've order from turkauz grill in Riverhead multiple times and that was my comparator. This is the second time I have been in this restaurant. The first time I went with a number of friends one of which had been there before. The food was great. I had just purchased a pair of boots at a store next door so I thought I'd stop for lunch. I ordered a fried liver appetizer and a Gyro. The liver was good but the gyro was extremely dry, i only had 3 or 4 bites before calling it quits. I was shocked when I received the bill for $32. I was charged for the gyro dinner not sandwich. Our new favorite restaurant and cafe! The combination meat platter was absolutely delicious and everything had so much flavor and each was unique. The cook is also very well done. We enjoyed the spinach pies as well! Tea was delicious. The vibes here are so nice and the staff is so kind and warm. We have more recently been visiting the cafe any chance we get - the chocolate cookies, chocolate baklava, and chocolate and pistachio cake is heavenly! We love that it's open late and that even if we're having dinner somewhere else, we can always stop by for tea and dessert and just have a relaxed and warm environment to end the night.
