Found Mavi Grill and found limited parking. No street parking so we sat in their lot till someone left...venue entrance run down so be careful. This place must be loved by locals because it was crowded and employees spending time with patrons. Server was friendly but service slow. No wine or beer but Byob! Food was ok but not our cup of tea. The side salad on the dish was a bit strong with the parsley but otherwise good. I liked the starter salad (entrees come with a soup or salad). We went here for lunch with a large party to celebrate my husband's birthday. They could not have been more accommodating. From start to finish, the food was excellent. We shared two platters of the mixed Mezza. The baba ghanouj is among the best I've ever tasted. As where the grape leaves! The "eggplant sauce", which apparently is a house specialty, was something new for us. We all really enjoyed it very much. Entrées varied from falafel, to shrimp, to chicken. There was not a complaint amongst the bunch there was also spinach pie. Our friend said that she wish that the Filo dough was a little bit crispier but otherwise it was really yummy. For dessert they treated the table with baklava, which was to die for. We will definitely be going back! read more

We had the cold mezze, which came with eggplant, white beans, baba ganoush, and stuffed leaves. It was a good plate. The eggplant was tasty, and the stuffed leaves were good. The hummus had kind of a fruity taste, but it was fine. We had the lemon orzo soup. It was starchy and treasury. The lemon flavor was good, and it was a soothing soup. We also had the borek which was oily but very tasty. It wasn't salty like typical borek and the cheese was creamy and stretchy. The calamari had a good crust but the calamari itself was very small and chewy. Our mains were okay. They were very salty. We had the mixed platter which I don't recommend. It's mainly minced meat and thickly cut gyro meat, meaning the gyro meat was too chunky, definitely cut wrong. There were some whole chicken pieces in the mixed platter and lots of kofta but no lamb pieces or lamb chops like you typically get. I recommend ordering other dishes. We had the lamb adana and special beyti kebab, which were decent. They need to refine their food more and focus on details like mincing their kofta finer, use higher quality meat and not over salt their dishes. Dessert was good and tea was very good. This was a nice option for casual dinner close to cedar beach. Most of the entrees come with the choice of soup/salad, though I wasn't a huge fan of either of the soup options. Bad experience placing an order online for food. After over an hour I got a text message that my order was ready for pick up. I left my dinner guests to get the food. The restaurant was closed. Very embarrassing as I had company that I was serving. I was not treated well by the restaurant staff when I called the next day to try to resolve the problem. Will not be back. read more

Second visit, this time with friends. Really cozy place with welcoming vibe. The staff was friendly and efficient.BYOB if you wish, there is no bar. 4 of us had a good meal, and a really nice time. Have always driven past this location and finally stopped in! I ordered the falafel appetizer. Very crunchy outside with a nice green soft inside. It comes with 5 falafel pieces which are fairly large. For my meal, I ordered the Mavi's Mixed Grill (Chicken shish on a skewer, gyro, Kofte, Chicken Adana ,Lamb chops grilled served with veggies, bulgur and rice). This was best for me since I wanted to try a variety of items but couldn't decide on one. It came with a choice of soup or salad. I choose a greek salad which was delicious. The meal was very large I took most of it to-go. I loved every single thing on the platter. The bulgur was well seasoned and added more flavor to every bite. I recommend getting the mixed grill due to the size and choices within it. My friend got the shrimp linguini. Very creamy! read more

I had an appointment out east Friday night. My youngest daughter was coming and this restaurant is just up the street from her house. I'm going back about five years but this was a deli, and not a bad one at that. Well I've learned in life things always change, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the not so good. Let's see. This is Mediterranean food which I'm not crazy about but I can try anything once. The place is very clean and neat. We were the only ones there for a sit down dinner. A few people came in for take out. A pretty extensive menu but I settled on Beyti Lamb. This is ground lamb over a bed of rice and Bulgar. A first for me. Our waiter was very very informative and patient explaining each meal on the menu and any sides that are offered. Overall a fairly nice experience. Not really agreeable to my palate but the restaurant is not to blame for that. I think I will go back and try a chicken dish that they offered. read more

The falafel is king and thin - much easier to eat in a pita than typical balls. The babaganoush is also a fam fav, plus all of their other appetizers. You cannot go wrong. Very impressed!! The food the service! I had the Fried Eggplant and a small salad. ..& everything was delicious and portions good. But the hummus was amazing....! A small but very sweet place. I went with two friends and we all loved the food and place... I loved it soo much I did a take out and they did forget the soup sooo I went back the next day and they added a few extras! Decided to try for dinner, after hearing good things. To start, they are still using paper plates and plastic utensils, which we didn't care for, and later felt it affected portion size. My husband ordered the Kebab Platter for 2, which came with soup or salad and an appetizer. The soup (lemon chicken orzo) was thick, and gloopy and had way too much dill and not 1 piece of chicken. The appetizer was a combination of babaganoush, hummus, caponata, and bean salad. The hummus was very runny, but the flavor was good. The eggplant in the caponata was sweet and good. The babaganoush was good as well. The main course (a mix of meats), my husband's lamb was all dried out. He said the chicken was good. I had the lamb kabob and the lamb was tender, but lacked flavor. I did like the bulgar. It came with baklava, which we didn't bother with. The server was very nice, but considering there was only 3 tables with people, service was slow, it was painful waiting for the check. It looks mostly like a take out place, people were coming and going. For us, the food was edible, not much better and we won't be returning. read more

What a little more gem. Went for lunch and when I checked in on Yelp I was provided a $5.00 coupon. We ordered the calamari. While the breading was light and crisp, there was some chewiness. And there were no tentacles, just rings. The garlic aioli dipping sauce was great. Marinara a bit sweet for my taste, but good. I ordered the lamb pita. Tiny, tender chunks of grilled lamb in a pita just like a gyro. Come with the best French fries I have had in a long time. No wine for me today, as Mavi is BYOB...which is great as you can bring whatever you choose and no corking fee. I would recommend! Spoke with my bro and he says the dinners are awesome! Visited for dinner today, 11/13/2019 and the food was excellent. We ordered the appetizer for two delicious hummus, eggplant dip, bean salad, warm dolmates and sauté veg. I also tried falafels, so good! Dinner comes with a choice of soup or salad. Tonight we had the mixed grill for two, so much food we could not eat it all. This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere so when we pulled up to what looked like a house, I was suspicious but I had an altogether great experience! As a person who eats out often, loves Mediterranean food, and i worked in Astoria for years and ate excellent Mediterranean all the time- This place was great! My family loved the food! This is a small place, with only one waiter. We had it almost to ourselves, as many choose to take-out. It's BYOB with no corking fee. They no longer use paper plates- that was only during the height of Covid. I highly recommend the Mavi Delight mixed appetizer and the baklava! Also, the salad dressing is amazing. I found Portions to be quite big. They also have a darling fireplace! Only deducted a star for the constant in and out take-out orders and for their wine glasses which were not really wine glasses (but then I'm picky that way).
