Looking for Japanese comfort food in Irvine? Check out Isshoku Kitchen, a newly opened spot serving up craft ramen, crispy katsu, and delicious Japanese comfort food! Their menu features signature ramen like the Isshoku 01 Ume Shio Chicken Ramen, with a light, refreshing chicken broth and a unique plum twist, plus rich Black Garlic Tonkotsu and Spicy Tonkotsu for those who love bold flavors. They also serve crispy chicken and pork katsu, Japanese curry, and traditional teishoku sets with their house-made Thousand Island dressing. Don't forget to try their small plates, like agedashi tofu and garlic soy broccolini! The atmosphere is cozy, casual, and family-friendly, with free on-site parking. Perfect for a comforting meal with friends or family. You can also order pickup or delivery!

This place used to be a curry spot. The restaurant itself it pretty small. Sits maybe about 30-35 people total. We had a pretty big party of 21 and we took almost the entire store. The staff were very friendly and accommodating considering the size of our party. The food was really good. The shoyo fries was a bit underwhelming, just normal fries. Aside from that all the other dishes were great. The flavor, the umami, the crunch. Highly recommend, today ends their soft opening week. Grand opening starts tomorrow.

Isshoku Ramen recently replaced Maji Curry in the Walnut Village Center near the intersection of Culver Drive and Walnut Avenue. The restaurant serves up Japanese comfort food including handcrafted ramen, crispy katsu, and small plates. We enjoyed the Karaage Nanban and Cream Croquettes as appetizers, and they were fried to perfection with no visible grease. The same was true of the Shrimp Tempura. For my entree, I tried the Spicy Tantan Ramen and savored the fresh noodles and flavor rich broth. Overall the meal was so comforting! I'll be back, and I highly recommend a visit if you have yet to check it out.

I was so excited to see this open up! Service was great, but the food was a mixed bag. My ramen noodles were cooked perfectly, but my daughter's ramen was way over cooked and mushy. Karage was also nicely crunchy except the bottoms, since they were sat on an egg salad. The egg salad was light and pleasant but it would have been better if they offered it on the side to dip. Udon was cooked well. Pork katsu was crispy on the outside but it was dry. Just note the restaurant is really small even for Irvine standards (it can probably seat 20 people max) and there's only a couple of outdoor tables. So if you have a party of more than 4, it might be hard to get seating.

When I pass by Jamba juice today I found a new ramen restaurant and I when in and tried the Isshoku 05 Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, and it was really good! The tonkotsu broth was rich and flavorful with a nice spicy kick. It was a little spicy, but not overwhelming, and the flavor made me want to keep eating. The restaurant was also very clean and had a nice, comfortable atmosphere. All the server were really nice and explain the menu very clearly. Everything looked fresh and well prepared. Definitely a place I'd come back to try other ramen next time!

New ramen shop opened up by me. I had to give it a try. They just had a soft opening, so i was lucky enough to be one of their first few customers. I order these items: Isshoku 01, Karaage Nanban & Agedashi tofu. Isshoku 01: The chicken broth was amazing, something I was not expecting. It was very light but so good. I havent had this type of noodles before but it complimented it very well. Kaarage Nanban: INSANE. The tartar is a combination of egg salad and yuzu. It was unbelievable, I could eat this over rice or have it in a sandwhich. Agedashi tofu: Very refreshing. Not heavy but very flavorful. Service was great and it was nice to hear that they were eager for my opinion in order to improve. They said that the recipes were all homemade so i find it very hard to find a place similar to it. It is a spots that you definitely need to try.

Really enjoyed the food here! The ramen was flavorful, and the takoyaki ,fried shrimp and broccolini were delicious. Everything was nicely presented. Great spot for Japanese food. Would definitely come back!

Chicken broth udon and curry udon

Omg finally have my new go to ramen place now! Everything is so good here :) My friend and I tried a bunch of dishes at Isshoku Kitchen and really enjoyed everything! My favorite was definitely Isshoku 3. The chicken-based broth was so flavorful but still light and naturally sweet, and the yuzu flavor made it super refreshing. I usually don't finish ramen soup, but this one was so easy to drink that I kept going back for more. We also tried Isshoku 5, which has a rich tonkotsu broth. It was really good and very creamy and flavorful, but I personally still prefer Isshoku 3 because it feels lighter and I can actually enjoy drinking the broth without feeling too heavy. Their udon is also really good. We tried both the curry udon and the chicken broth udon, and honestly I liked both. The noodles had a really nice texture and both broths were flavorful in different ways. For appetizers, we ordered agedashi tofu, ika geso, and yakitori moriawase. Everything was good, but the agedashi tofu was definitely my favorite. The outside was perfectly crispy while the tofu inside was still super soft and tender exactly how agedashi tofu should be. We also order katsu teishoku, and the katsu was crispy, juicy, and cooked really well. But I have to mention the salad dressing because it was surprisingly one of my favorite parts It's a house-made thousand island dressing, and I seriously don't know why it's so good. I would honestly buy a bottle if they sold it. Definitely coming back for Isshoku 3 and the agedashi tofu!

Really enjoyed the katsu curry! The portion was generous, the price was very reasonable, and the staff were super friendly. The restaurant is also very kid-friendly, which made the whole experience easy and enjoyable for our family. Definitely a great spot for a casual meal! Also the curry is not as spicy as before which my son enjoyed.

Isshoku 02 Citrus Dashi Ramen

Came and sat down after work during their soft opening (to-go in the next few weeks), the sign for Isshoku caught my eye. The restaurant is bright and has a simple, clean aesthetic. Had the Isshoku 02 ramen (citrus dashi), w/ the croquette and broccolini appetizers. DELICIOUS!! Staff were very very friendly and attentive. The 02 ramen had a very straightforward, clean, chicken + yuzu/citrus + bonito dashi flavor; not too salty, the thin noodles were toothsome, and it came with a generous portion of flavorful pork + toppings. The broccolini app was tender and very very well seasoned, with shatteringly crisp florets + crunchy topping, I could easily eat 2 orders. The cream croquettes were crispy, creamy, non-greasy, and EXTRA TASTY, exquisite pillows of fried mashed potato!! They didn't quite have curry available quite yet, instead they provided an amazing yellow tartar sauce to go with the croquettes. I enjoyed the meal and would come back again, especially since curry will be available eventually. Bonus, a kind member of the staff also very nicely explained the purpose of the (AI-lookin) posters in the restaurant, they tell a story of 2 beasts fighting over the age old question - which is better: Curry or Ramen? Can't wait to find out next time, looking forward to trying the curry udon!

Haven't tried yet but seems nice and clean. But I'm afraid a ramen cost us $20, which is 4 times more expensive than one on Tokyo.

Finally, a really good Japanese Curry spot…read more The girlfriend and I went to the Tustin location while we were in the area and really enjoyed Curry Do. We shared the Ishiyaki Curry and the Burger with Curry and Cheese sauce. The Ishiyaki Curry was REALLY (temperature) hot as expected and the flavor was spot on. The chicken katsu was very tasty, both the chicken and the breading were full of flavor. The curry itself was also very tasty. When it comes to the unique aspect of the ishiyaki, I think it may have been lost on me. The burnt rice mixed with curry was interesting but not sure if it was my jam. That and the curry stayed IMMENSELY HOT for the entire meal which was an unexpected surprise. On the flip side, the Burger was delicious. It's a simple burger with bun, patty, cheese, and grilled onions but it was amazing. The side sauces of curry and cheese were good, but the burger could honestly carry itself without either. If there was one note, it would be maybe a bit more salt on the fries and sauces. The inside of the place is quite spacious with lots of seats. We got lucky and had no wait but by the time we left, the entire restaurant was full. In terms of service, very nice waitstaff. Sometimes a bit tough to catch but that's life when there's a rush of people. Am 100% planning on coming back for just regular curry haha.

The quality has just been so utterly consistent. These baked goods truly taste rustic and homemade; I believe the freshness is guaranteed and everything is baked daily. I always buy the shuku pan to make sandwiches my daily lunches and the country bread/sourdough for my avocado toast and breakfasts. The sandwiches made in-house are also recommended especially the chicken katsu and the assorted ham/tuna/egg salad. I like the croquette and egg salad in a bun especially. All of these are savory and flavorful yet subtle. I also recommend any of the pastries including curry pan, melon pan, and of course the strawberry croissants but beyond that I also really like the strawberry banana croissant and blueberry croissant. There is also a selection of drinks made in-house café-style as well as bottled Japanese drinks. The staff are friendly and I really like the space even though it's small. You can find seating outside especially if you avoid rush hours. Of all the three locations, this one is my favorite because it's so rustic and historic and really fits in with the overall vibe and aesthetic of Old Town Tustin and the El Camino Real. Please check this bakery out; it's one of the best in all of SoCal in my opinion.

Curry Do? More like Curry DON'T…read more TikTok sold me on this place. The food looked great on video, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Big mistake. The cheese sauce was the first warning sign. It was gritty, watery, and tasted suspiciously like something that started life as a powder and met hot water five minutes earlier. Then came the curry sauce. Sweet. Weirdly sweet. Not rich, not deep, not complex -- just sweet in a way that made me stop chewing and think: WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST EAT? Then there was the burger. Apparently this is supposed to be some kind of smash-burger experience, except the burger itself tasted like somebody had introduced ground beef to a sugar bowl. Maybe it was the onions. Maybe it was the sauce. I don't know. All I know is I ended up eating what can only be described as a sugar burger. The fries were forgettable. Not terrible. Not good. Just fries sitting there wondering how they got dragged into this mess. At one point I actually started questioning reality. Are YOU real? Because between the gritty cheese, candy curry and sugar burger, I felt like I'd wandered into a restaurant created by AI after being trained exclusively on TikTok food videos. And then there are the prices. They charge like the money you're handing them is Monopoly money. These are premium prices for food that, in my opinion, isn't remotely premium. Even the atmosphere is strange. There doesn't seem to be much of an identity to the place. The walls and decor feel less like an actual restaurant concept and more like somebody decorated the room with whatever beer advertising happened to be available. Maybe some people love this place. Food is subjective. But I went in because TikTok made it look fantastic, and I left wondering whether the people making those videos had actually tasted the food. TikTok sold me a culinary experience. What I got was an existential crisis with fries.

We love soba, so we were really excited to try this spot and ordered the Soba Sampler along with the Karaage. Unfortunately, the sampler was pretty hit or miss for us. Some of the soba was good, while other portions had a strange, almost soapy aftertaste that made them difficult to eat. The Karaage was where our experience really went downhill. When we cut into it, the chicken was very pink inside and had a soft, almost squishy texture. Both of us believed it was undercooked and weren't comfortable eating it. We brought it to the staff's attention and were initially told that it couldn't be taken back or replaced and that it was supposed to be that way. Regardless, neither of us felt comfortable continuing to eat it, so we set it aside untouched and asked for the bill. After bringing us the bill, the server seemed to notice that we hadn't eaten the Karaage, took the bill back, and returned with a new one that removed it from our total. I appreciated that he ultimately did that, but I still have mixed feelings about how the situation was handled leading up to it. The staff otherwise seemed nice, but between the inconsistent Soba Sampler and our experience with the Karaage, the meal unfortunately left us disappointed.
