Came here for DTLB Live to grab some food, I was starving and have never been here before. I got the "Don't Fry For Me Argentina" which consisted of French fries chimichurri and flank (I think) steak. The plate came out lukewarm like it had been sitting for a while. The steak was very good but the fries were really salty and the chimichurri don't have much flavor going on. We also got a BFC (a big cookie with ice cream aka pazookie) for dessert. It was burnt :( Overall, I will probably come back once more to give this place a second chance, when there isn't a huge event going on as there were some other menu items I was interested in trying. read more

Really bad experience there tonight. I hate writing a bad review, even worse, I hate sending food back. It's so awkward and uncomfortable. As long as it's somewhat decent, I'll just eat it and be on my way. I ate my room temp sandwich only to seem like we weren't over complaining, while my guests both sent their food to re heat it up. They on the second round did receive warm burgers and we left it at that. I really liked the beer but during my second beer and receiving the cold food I didn't want to order another. Then I paid. Full tab. No apology, no "we'll remove the appetizer", nothing. Again, I don't ask for this, I'd rather just have a decent experience. I hate to not tip at least 20 percent, so I paid (cooks are affected on the tip - clearly not their fault). But I'll never return and I live in the neighborhood. $150 wasted for a lousy experience. Excellent customer service and beer! When visiting a new city, I make sure to always visit a local brewery and ISM was nearby my hotel in downtown Long Beach. The place is pretty expansive with an outdoors area w picnic style seating arrangements..very doggie friendly! Beer itself was tasty and cold. Food Review Only! First off, their chicharrones are soooo good and crunchy but we packed them wrong for home and it tasted stale the next day... Chili was ok but the CORN BREAD was very tasty, nice and soft and moist cake like texture, very good. Also would totally order the tritip and fries again. The tritip was very good, not too fatty, and the chimichurri was a perfect blend to it. The fries were nice and soft with crisp... I would get these separate too if you love fries like I do. Great beer, friendly staff. Food is hit or miss (Plagiarism Fries are solid; nachos were awful -- and have since been removed). The beer line can definitely take a while, especially if doing tasters (you'll be in line a bunch). They don't encourage flights because they want the beers to be nice and cold when consumed, so they limit two tasters per person at a time. The space opens to the outside, which is excellent in great weather, but probably would get a bit hot or cold depending on the season. The parking structure gives three hours free with validation using the QR code you scan by the cash register. The quality of the beer product is top notch for as young a brewery as it is (evidenced by the gold medals). Definitely worth a visit. read more

Popped in to check out their first, monthly bike ride which was scheduled about 6:30pm. Took off about 7pm. I didn't join in but I'd say there were 15-20 cyclists of all varieties. Sure the group will get larger as we get more daylight hours. Had a couple of beers. Their Blonde is Rainbow Harbor was nice and crisp albeit I prefer dark beer so I checked out their Midnight in Druidia which was very good. Nice size pours. Happy Hour prices are $2 off in-house brews. Food wise we checked out Pro Tip #1 with thinly sliced tri-tip. Sandwich was great with their 'slaw' mix. Fries were disappointingly lukewarm. Still hungry we split their special Frites which also had the tri-tip. There is were I should have complained. Lukewarm fries again so HUGE disappointment. Also can't say thin sliced tri-tip is easy to manage as the slices were too long. Prefer chunks. If you have a dog, they are welcome to come inside. ISM has some good local ambiance. Came here for Drag Bingo and had so much fun! Kiki and Jay Phoenix were phenomenal hosts, bringing all the sass and attitude to the venue! We didn't win, but they made the night worth it with the level of effort they put in! Beers did NOT disappoint! Partner had the Patty Melt and I had the TriTip sandwich, scarfed them down, without a care in the world. However, everything else was no bueno. The salad and Western experienced kitchen mishaps - the salad dressing was too, too sour rendering the salad inedible and the burger was burnt burnt. Mistakes, but forgivable. I didn't love their crustacean po-boy. I prefer a battered shrimp, but the version here is grilled. And it could have stood for more sauce. If something had to take over the old Beachwood location, I'm glad it was ISM. I love the spacious location with great bar seating and lots of outdoor seating with fire pits. Lots of people bring their dogs too which is fun. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Order at the counter and they will serve your beer right then, seat yourself and they'll deliver your food to your table. Both the food and beer are so good! I highly recommend the cubano sandwich, asada California taco, asada fries and nachos. They all go great with beer which are available in the three categories of light and easy, hop forward and malt forward. I haven't had a beer I didn't like here. read more

We've been to ISM Brewing on two occasions now and both experiences have been delicious. Mainly because they have these oyster mushroom tacos, aka "Mushie Mania", with poblano peppers, corn rajas, and avocado sauce. Tasty combination! It's quite pricy at $7 a taco, however it is a larger-sized taco (not street taco size). Also, I'm considering if they use quality ingredients and that this promenade location comes with premium rent. So I'm understanding if they need to charge $7 a taco. My family alone with my BIL and his wife had just spent several fun hours at the Aquarium of the Pacific and afterward they wanted to check out a microbrewing within walking distance from the aquarium. It was a pleasant walk (seemed like almost a mile) to ISM Brewing. It's located amidst loft living building, eateries and other businesses nearby. We walked in to an industrial themed microbrewery with both indoor and patio seating. The booths looked more comfortable to this old fart, so I made the command decision where the family was going to sit and enjoy their beverages. My Bill and his wife are really into microbreweries and their IPA offerings and track their experiences at each one. My wife just enjoys a lighter style lager or fruit flavored wheat beer. Me, I now have to stay away from BIlany food or beverage that contains a lot of purines in it, so beer drinking is no longer something I can partake in. You place your order at the bar then self serve your seating location. My BIL and his wife, both had beers which they enjoyed. My wife ordered hard seltzer that was mildly flavored and refreshing (yea, I took a small sip). I ordered a berry flavored Cider, which was very tasty and refreshing as well. Our son ordered a Coke, which came bottled-nice! They also ordered a plate of nachos. The nachos were really good with the candied jalepenos. Since I was the only chili head in the group, they were all mine! We saw another couple order the wings. Those looked so good and huge, that we all decided we will be ordering these the next time we come to ISM Brewing. This microbrewing has a very mellow, laid back, vibe which created a very relaxed ambiance for all of us. First visit to ISM and it was a good intro. I've enjoyed their beers I've had on draft or can out and about, and the brewery is worth a visit. This review is only for the beer but do note their food menu is extensive and looks really good. The beer lineup in Jan 20024 included several good IPAs both west coast hoppy and tropical hazy as well as a couple interesting stouts. I think Ian is cranking out some good beers and hitting his stride with some great collaborations with other great breweries. The beer tender was knowledgeable and friendly. Bar seating was comfortable and they had a TV or two to watch the games. I definitely will return when in the area. Parking is somewhat difficult and mostly metered but they have 3 hour validation in the Lofts parking according to the owner. read more

My uncle and I stopped at ISM for a quick beer or two, and both of us wished we could've stayed longer. We loved the laid back vibe and enjoyed talking about experimental hops and all sorts of other stuff with the beertender. The beers were really good. We had a mix of hazies and West Coast IPAs. The clear IPAs were crisp, bright, and hoppy. The food menu looked really good, so next time I'll have to come hungry. Unprofessional and Disappointing Experience I've been to ISM Brewery several times and always had a great time -- until now. I called twice on 9/21/25 to reserve a table for 15-20 people for a dual birthday celebration on 9/27/25. First call was at 3:21 PM -- a woman took down the reservation and asked if I preferred indoor or outdoor seating. I said either was fine. Later that day at 4:30 PM, I called back to request indoor seating, and a man confirmed the reservation and said it would be updated. Both were friendly and seemed on top of things. But when I showed up on 9/27 with two birthday cakes and guests on the way, I was told they had no record of my reservation and that they had an event that night -- said "they never should've taken my reservation at all". No one had the decency to call or inform me beforehand. We had to scramble last minute to find another venue and notify all our guests. It was incredibly stressful and not what I wanted to deal with on my birthday. They apologized and said there was nothing they could do to accommodate my group. I was told to leave my number so they could "make it up to me" -- but that does little when you're left scrambling last minute to find a new venue and contact everyone on the guest list. This completely ruined the start of what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. It was disorganized, unprofessional, and a huge letdown. I won't be returning, and unfortunately, I can't recommend ISM Brewery to anyone looking for a reliable venue. read more

From what I know about ISM, they are known for their clear beers, West Coast ipas etc. I have enjoyed all of their hazies though because we occasionally get some cans at the out of the barrel, but we even tried a stout amd enjoyed every one. Sandwiches included. Beertender was also super accommodating and generous with letting us sample a few beers. Would definitely make this a regular location if I lived near by. Highly recommend. My other half has a chiropractor down in Long Beach so of course it gave us an opportunity to check out a spot out there. We saw that ISM had a lunch special menu so we wanted to check it out. Their lunches include a beer which is basically free. I. believe my tri tip lunch was $18 and it included fries/beer. I enjoyed everything and would love to go back and try a few of their other dishes. The brewery itself was really cute and had a large spacious outdoor patio which must get packed on the evenings and weekends. There was easy parking across the street off 3rd next to Harvey Milk Park. If you live in the area or happen to be in the area, this place is a worth checking out. read more

I've been here several times so here are my general impressions now that I'm never coming back after the last unpleasant visit. Pros: --the food tastes pretty good here, though I once had an odd-tasting salad that was really bitter. In any case, they change their menu often so that item is no longer there. I've never had any alcohol there. Cons: --kinda pricey for what you get. They take themselves for artisan chefs because they call their sandwiches "sandos" and come up with punny names for food à la Bob's Burgers. For example, for $17.75 you can get (and I quote from their menu) "**Classic burger!** Flame-grilled house beef patty, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, burger spread, & pickles." Literally just a basic burger for almost $18. --you order at the counter and they have the dreaded tip screen that appears when you pay by card. The employee is there watching you intently so get ready to choose 20%. The best part? This last time, they were so unorganized and slow to deliver the food I had to pick it up myself from the counter, and no one came to bus the tables the entire night we were there playing trivia, so essentially I did all the work and paid a generous tip for it. Terrible service. --Speaking of terrible service: my friend has an underlying health condition in which she can't eat much at a time. She wanted to order something small off the kid's menu like she normally does at most restaurants but when I ordered it at the counter for her, the snarky employee said "Oh, I didn't see any kids in here tonight." I told him the situation and he said sorry, the kids menu is exclusively for those 10 and under because they are "curated portions." I'm sorry but GET OVER YOURSELVES lol. They are smaller portions that cost less, that's all. He forced me to buy the more expensive adult version that she couldn't finish and it wasn't an item that lasts as leftovers, so congratulations on not only alienating my friend and her health condition but also needlessly wasting food. --it's very sketchy in the area depending on where you park and walk. There's consistently an encampment of transients right outside the nearest parking garage and they are not afraid to approach you at night and panhandle. --the trivia is so-so. It's not written by a professional company but by some local guy. He makes mistakes sometimes but won't budge even if you present information to the contrary from the Internet. The last time I was there, the bar was so cheap with their prizes that they only offered a gift certificate for first place, nothing for second or third like most establishments. Never mind that the gift certificate wouldn't even buy you one entrée on the menu given their prices! This place is a vibe! I was exploring the area and came across ISM brewing. The bartenders are super friendly and it seems like there are a lot of locals that come in here daily. It was a Wednesday so they have $1 dollar wings. I tried the barbecue & Thai. The barbecue was so so so good and I thought the Thai was decent and was surprised by the spicy kick to it. They have a really great menu, even if you want to grab dinner, apps, small bites, etc.. something for everyone! They also have a local beer list, cocktails and ciders. No "Service" charges, thank you! There are multiple vegetarian options; we both went for the Fungus Amongus, Jerk cremini mushrooms on a fresh french roll. We were expecting a veggie pattie, what we received was exactly what the menu said we would...roasted jerk mushroom caps. And we were both happy with the taste which had a definite bite, very flavorful. Would definitely order again. The fries were pale and flaccid, not the crisp and firm product which marks a well cooked fry. It is a brewery, serving both their own craft beers and a mix of wines, craft beers, and ciders from their 'friends'. I have definitely shifted from the hoppy IPA's to a maltier taste; their red was perfect. Partner had a blond ale, also perfect. You order both beverage and food from the bar counter, beers are provided immediately. Collect your napkins, utensils, and water and enjoy your beer on the heated/covered patio or inside. Everything is counter service, so the wait can get quite long when there are a lot of people waiting and trying to make decisions. Great spot to stop on a walk. Large selection that includes brews and some wines. We did a flight ranging across pilsners, sours and dark draughts. All were enjoyable.
