Island Breeze was my go to place for lunch in Cherry Grove. I had the shaved roast beef with au jus dipping sauce. Very tasty. This is a good place to go for burgers and fries. There is some lovely seating outside facing the bay. In the evening Island Breeze becomes a night club of sorts featuring drag queens which put on a fabulous show. After walking the sunken forest we headed over to Cherry Grove, walked around, shopped then decided to eat. It was a random Monday so not really crowded. This place was great right on the water though I think all the restaurants are? Food was delicious, reasonably priced and right at the ferry so we could hop on to go home. First and last time. Perfect dockside location. Arrived at the hostess stand and told to sit where ever we want. 5 mins later someone arrives with menus. Drinks ordered (fancy drinks were $20+ and draft beers $11.) That said ordered meals. 1 hr later the server asked us if we wanted more drinks. The question was can we have our lunch? 1 hour and 15 minutes later after watching everyone who arrived after us get served and some leave. We were told that our order was "lost". After a crab/ cracker dish was comp'ed to keep us from freaking out. After a chat with the manager our food arrived. Food was good!!! I was there the night "Jodie" and "Jeanine" came in. They were drunk and had outside beverages that the server told them were not allowed. After arguing back, the manager was called over. When the manager came over and told them they couldn't have outside beverages, they called him an asshole and continued arguing about being rude to them. This was why they were asked to leave. This "asked to leave for no reason" crap was completely false. After they left, they posted handwritten nasty notes around the community spreading ridiculous lies. My husband and I visit Island Breeze a couple of times each summer and we always feel welcomed! We have a few favorites on the menu we enjoy the Baja Bowl, calamari, the brussels sprouts app and the chicken sandwich. I also enjoy their specialty drink the Fire Island (picture attached). It's a great ambiance overlooking the bay and a fun staff. Drinks I tried the Fire island , decent taste wise not much on the alcohol , my friends had I think it was a Rocket ship? it's basically like a margarita with 3 shots , ah it was alright. On the food Decent Mozzarella sticks , Calamari & Chicken Dumplings not too bad. I had the Grilled Chicken sandwich , the sandwich was good nice taste a bit spicy on the sriracha mayo , comes with fries good as well. Hubby had the Pulled pork sandwich , this was good as well nice tasting pork. I wrote a review on yelp a few days ago that has since been taken down because yelp said that I did not provide enough detail about my experience. Well, I'm kind of glad they did that because it gave me a couple of days to really digest what happened that evening and I'm going to describe it in perfect detail. Me and three of my girlfriends came into Island Breeze for dinner, two of them were carrying beers. The hostess proceeded to walk us through the entire restaurant all the way through to the outside to a table by the water. The waitress then came over and said to my girlfriends that they were not allowed to have the drinks in the restaurant. They told her they had been there 2 previous evenings the same week and walked in with drinks and no one questioned them. She did not get nasty with the waitress. All she said was that they had done it two times before so she was just curious why it wasn't allowed on this particular evening and asked nicely to see the manager . At that point Eddie the manager came over did not ask any questions and told us we were not welcome that we should leave and go to cherries. my girlfriend then proceeded to tell him that she would be happy to give him the drinks. He was belligerent, and wouldn't even listen to anything we had to say that's when my other girlfriend called him an asshole because he really was being one. We were not nasty. We were not drunk, as a matter of fact, I had just gotten there and hadn't even had a drink yet. Eddie said go to cherries and let's see if they let you in with your drinks. First of all if the drinks weren't allowed, they should've never sat us at the table with the drinks to begin with. That was the first problem. We offered to surrender the drinks to Eddie . He didn't want to hear anything of it and threw us out of the restaurant and we walked over to cherries. They accepted us with open arms with our drinks and served us with no problem. At the end of the night we spent over $300 plus a really nice tip. I find it hard to believe that Paul B heard anything that was actually said, being island breeze was totally empty the evening we were in and there was no one else seated near us. I believe Paul B is the manager Eddie with a fake profile. And that he had all his friends write these reviews. Like my friend said 3 out of the 4 of us are in the restaurant industry and I can tell you that no customer should be treated the way we were by Eddie. He could have come over nicely to the table and said "sorry girls, you need to take those drinks outside and we would have happily obliged. Were we wrong for bringing drinks in?? Obviously yes, but the way it was handled was totally unacceptable. It's a shame they lost out on such a nice check because from the looks of it they could have used the extra money that evening. read more

Avoid. For scenery, the outside is right on the bay and you can watch a lovely sunset. The drinks are expensive but strong and good. The French fries are fine. And the servers and hostess are very friendly. The main problems are the food and the manager. The food is just barely edible- tastes old and somehow both over and undercooked at the same time. Despite this, we go all the time and bring out of town friends because people are nice and the drinks are good. But never again after tonight. We have a small dog who comes with us and one time she was barky when the waiter came over. That was like a month ago and the place was empty. We've been back with her a bunch since, including yesterday, where she just slept in my arms. Tonight the manager (owner?) comes over and says she was bothering guests last time she was here (she just wasn't) and we had to leave. He was very rude- he could have just asked us that if she barks tonight to take her home. Or a million other ways to address the situation. Plus the place was packed with day drunk people and a sweet 16 and a literal party on the dock and at cherry's and we were sitting outside. This is not fine dining and it was so loud. I extremely doubt anyone would even hear a dog bark. Anyway, it looks like reviews say he kicks people out all the time. I worked in a restaurant for years and am very sensitive to being a good diner, and this was so ridiculously shitty. Also why would you kick out regulars? In the off season we are sometimes the only people in the restaurant. So I guess he is either the owner or the owner doesn't care about an actively mean manager. Anyway we'll never go back which is a bummer because I love the view, but I can see the same sunset from the dock. We went to cherrys where we had a fun drink and the night was saved. read more

It's your island dive with hamburger, chicken finger, fish and chips and Cesáre salad, beer and soft drinks as the menu at least at end of season. Beach vibe, sandy feet, sandals, shorts and speedo with straw hats is the order of the day. Chuck our server was a great guy and totally makes the place have character. The food was awesome pub fare, fresh and super tasty. I really was surprised at this late in the game to be so great. When I come back next year at the height of the season I will come here and take full advantage of the strobe light mirror ball and other lighting features that probably light up the night of Cherry Grove. 5 STARS - AMAZING SERVICE, ENTERTAINMENT, FOOD AND DRINKS! I can't express how great of a spot Island Breeze is and how much fun we had! I came to Cherry Grove for the first time this past weekend with some friends for my birthday. We had stopped at Cherry's on the Bay first, but it was too hot and the bar was separate from the food (bar cash only, food can be on credit card). After two fun drinks each we moved on to Island Breeze. We were immediately seated and told there would be a show in the next half hour. Our waiter Brian (or Bryan) was over right away, learning our names and story. I loved his energy. He made sure to personalize our experience and made each and every one of us feel special. He made it feel like we were old friends! In regards to the food, I will say we all cleaned our plates so quick I almost didn't catch what everyone got. I had the grilled chicken sandwich (so good) and saw a steak sandwich, classic chicken fingers, lobster roll sliders, and watermelon feta salad. In regards to drinks I must recommend anything and everything with cucumber vodka - so crisp and refreshing! The Babylon was exceptionally delicious. If you can plan your visit accordingly, definitely stop in when Tammy is performing! She walked around and got everyone involved without really putting anyone on the spot (although we did get the more family friendly G rated version as it was a Sunday; we have to come back for a Friday or Saturday night performance). read more

Came here one summer morning/afternoon for brunch. As you enter the establishment you are greeted by great water views. The whole place had a very beachfront vibe which I thought went great with the local. The menu is classic American, burgers fries etc. restaurant has a bar as well in case you wanted to grab a drink as well. As a vegetarian I had one or two options. Which was OK. Island Breeze gets extra points for just being there--an affordable (for Fire Island) alternative to good-but-expensive and cheap-but-pretty-bad food elsewhere. I like to make a meal out of appetizers: really good nachos, Thai lettuce wraps, and maybe the tastiest thing on the menu, salmon tartare. (Not the menu you'll see on Yelp, btw.) The burger and fish and chips taste kinda packaged, but make a satisfying dinner anyway. Kitchen is open pretty late, which is a great advantage there. Lovely views of the water if you get the right table; you really soak up the vacation vibe. (Music is insanely loud, a hazard almost everywhere. I don't know what happened here. My friends and I have frequented this establishment for many seasons, and have raved about their delicious drinks and food. However, just last week, we went to enjoy frozen drinks and order "The Frying Nemo" (Island Breeze's rendition of a traditional Fish n' Chips). Honestly, it always kept us coming back because it was the best fish and chips we ever had. Much to our surprise, the name "Frying Nemo" was removed from the menu and replaced with "Fish n' Chips." We figured were safe to order it, but when the food was brought out, it was Paul Gorton's Fish Sticks. Yes...the box you buy in the store for $10. It cost almost $30 for 4 Paul Gorton fish sticks, when that isn't even the cost of the whole box. We were all highly annoyed at the rip off and poor POOR quality of food. The Island Breeze: The NEW Island Breeze I should say. The first thing you will notice when entering the Island Breeze is the new décor, which is hot, industrial, and clean. Floors redone, walls covered in Metal, New Bar stools, Main room in High Top Tables. The more industrial look and feel is beautiful as well welcoming. The old screened in porch is now windowless and has more formal tables as well the outside deck area has normal size dining table s as well. The new look is wonderful and refreshing. Its nice to see a change for once for the positive and not trapped in a beach feel. The bar are with the high Top Tables leans towards a more Industrial Pub feel while the two lower areas have the more traditional dining room style, so they have successfully providing customers with a choice of whatever experience they feel like having on any given evening. And lets not forget Tish's Tiki for Sunsets!! The best place on the island and a local favorite place to be. The new wait staff is fabulously young, fresh, friendly and full of energy. And we hear that there are a lot of new servers and bartenders joining this summer for a fresher appeal. So we are looking forward to that. Having fresh new waiters, waitress and bartenders is invigorating. As long as they are personable and friendly and attentive you cant go wrong. I have to say that eating on Fire Island is hit or miss, especially early in the season. The only real place to eat these days for Lunch and Dinner in Cherry Grove, before the big opening Memorial Day weekend is The Island Breeze. I have had the pleasure of eating there for lunch and dinner this past weekend and I have to say it was fantastic. For lunch I had the French Dip. Any restaurant can easily ruin this staple sandwich but Chef Anthony at the Island Breeze has mastered it. The roast beef is sliced so very thin and piled perfectly on a soft hoagie roll. With the perfect amount of Mozzarella cheese on it and a creamy horseradish sauce spread just right on the roll. The separate bowl of au jus is delicious and HOT. I requested my French-fried potatoes very well done and they were brought out just perfect as well. The presentation was great as well. I had it with a Belgium PALM beer, which went perfectly with the sandwich. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and it was so thick and creamy with the perfect amount of tangy sauce on it he was left licking his fingers clean. The only thing that would have made it 100% perfection would be a side of creamy sole slaw, but he wasn't complaining. This was a classic well-done Kansas style Pulled Pork Sandwich. He is already thinking of when he can have it again. After cleaning and opening the house (and a nap) my husband and I decided to go back for dinner. We shared a great bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, which was sensational. I started off with the Baby Kale Salad with pignoli nuts, Shaved Parmesan and Lemon vinaigrette, which was a perfect way to start off my meal. My husband had the Cranberry and Goat cheese salad that came with a balsamic glaze dressing. Both were Crisp, Fresh and presented beautifully. We also shared the Steak & Cilantro Empanadas, which were out of this world. Freshly made and served with an amazing sour cream and salsa. For dinner I had strip steak with garlic-mashed potatoes. Really for Fire Island this can compete with any steak house on the main land. Meat was perfectly cooked, perfect thickness and served with just the right amount of potatoes and garlic green beans. My husband had the Pan Seared Wild Salmon, which was served rare as requested and was accompanied with seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes. This Cherry Grove local eatery and bar has really become a top-notch restaurant, with great drinks, and amazing food. And the best place to watch the sunset at Tish's Tiki Bar. You really couldn't ask for a better meal or experience. We are looking forward to many more great experiences at the Island Breeze this season and to a more extensive menu as the summer progresses and looking forward to meeting the new staff. I also hear they are bringing in wonderful New Fresh entertainers from NYC late night fun as well. Bravo to Lynda and David Ross and Chef Anthony for a great beginning of the 2015 season. read more

We spent the weekend in Cherry Grove and fell totally in love with Island Breeze. After perusing the menus of the other local restaurants, we were so excited to see Island Breeze's menu AND prices. They serve everything you want when you're at the beach: burgers, fries, wings, salads, and delicious blended drinks. It's got the perfect beach vibe, too. There's beautiful outdoor seating directly on the bay. The staff is so lovely (one particular man working at the bar was so sweet, I wish I got his name!) and all very strict with Covid compliance, which was great to see. One night I tried the smokehouse burger, which was topped with onion rings, cheese, and barbecue sauce. The next I had the shrimp basket. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted AMAZING. My boyfriend went for the chicken sandwich (I'd pay top dollar for a gallon of whatever sauce they put on that thing) and the buffalo wings, both of which were delicious. I also tried their piña colada, which was absolutely perfect. We are already looking forward to our next Fire Island visit because we can't wait to try more things on the menu! read more
