U know when u revisit your favorite places & U look forward to certain simple food like pizza or chicken parm with pasta because it's comforting and tastes like the version of your Italian Sicilian or Greek grandmother or mom or friend made? And it's a welcoming feeling? Yesterday my friend and I took our friends to one such simple eatery, #CherryGrovePizza in CherryGrove FireIsland NY . And we were starving! The simple pizza and chicken parm and 2 slices took 40 minutes to get to our table of 4 (this is a New York pizza eatery not a linen tablecloth napkin type place). And CASH ONLY we were informed (no where in print on the menus). We were starving. The food finally arrived. One look and I knew this wasn't going to b good. The pizza looked weak and looked nuked. It prob wasn't but I get the ingredients were cheap. The chicken parm? I could hve been eating a damp bounty towel without any flavoring at all. Really? What happened to your recipes? You didn't just cut corners , u insulted years of hard work which was placed before you to keep the crowd coming. U may have had some tables filled that evening around 7:30 and I don't know what their gastronomic experience was but I'll advise u better get back to basic essentials. Learn all over again. The pizza options are some of the best I've ever had, anywhere around the world. Very tasty. I also like their flexibility: willing to make a pizza that is half of a specialty pizza on each side, so you don't have to order two pizzas to try their specialty flavors. I've had 2 of their baked entrees and those were very savory and tasty as well. During this time of pandemic I applaud them for their efforts with distancing and outdoor seating, and staff are in masks. They've done it appropriately, while still doing their best to maintain an enjoyable dining experience. read more

To be honest, I'm pretty surprised by how good the pizza is here. They serve up pretty solid slices on Cherry Grove...who knew? I really enjoyed their garlic knot slice: three decent sized garlic knots baked into the crust of the pizza. I understand this is a vacation spot and that it's summer, but come on. $19 (w/o tip and tax) for a portion of lasagna? Mediocre lasagna?? Food was vastly overpriced (even taking into account the location and season) for the quality. Service was what I expected - casual, laid-back, no frills - but if you're in the mood for pasta and head here, expect inflated prices for average quality. The mozzarella sticks are so yummy. I order the Italian sub and unfortunately it was not all that but I will say the staff here goes above and beyond. They love that you came to the restaurant. They have a sense of urgency and consistently cater to guests in away I never saw before. Great business, I look forward to trying more from the menu when I return. read more

Excellent pizza and excellent service. We were actually planning on going to another restaurant for dinner and they said they only served until 7pm and the bar was open until 8pm. The pizza and pasta are excellent and priced right compared to the rest of the island. The guy that helped us was very friendly and same for the guy that was in the back which I'm assuming may have been the owner. Thank you for being open and for the great meal! read more

Luckily, Cherry Grove Pizza is pretty centrally located. Unfortunately, the food was subpar. I asked for a slice of plain cheese which cost $4.00. That is 4 slices of TWO BROS. The pizza that I was served was burnt on the bottom, cheese was hard and overall lacked flavor. One benefit to the place is that they do deliver! Why is it that even a "not-so-great-by-NY-standards" pizza place beats the best Chicago pizza by miles? Why can't we get this stuff in Chicago? I was not expecting much from this beachy pizzeria tucked away under the Ice Palace. I was wholly blown away by their white pizza (the ultimate beach-side pizza style) and impressed with their inventive "roni"/cheese sliced stromboli thingies called "pinwheels." The prices are decent, especially considering what they could charge here. They deliver in Cherry Grove, too (pretty funny -- it's less than a mile long). Not sure about to the Pines. Favorite full meal is their Baked Tuesdays presented in season... Been here hundreds of times over many years always had good service and great food but today the food was awful and the service terrible . First the waitress let us sit at s dirty table, she took our order and still didn't clean it, we cleaned it ourselves she then brought me my food first so we didn't eat together, we had to wait for silverware after the food sat on our table, we had to ask for bread and got it when the pasta was half eaten but she dropped the check quickly and picked it and her tip up faster than it took for the bread to come The portion of the pasta looked smaller, the pizza tasted funny like the dough was left out to long and the bread for my sandwich tasted stale or freezer burned Next weekend we break our tradition of dinner here and back to ocean breeze or sand castle read more

In some ways this place is a little hole! As Billy A mentioned, it's located underneath the Ice Palace, a long running & well know Cherry Grove dance club (why is there no Yelp listing for the Ice Palace????) But even though it is not a fancy establishment, in recent years it has been the only place to get a reasonably priced meal in Cherry Grove! By mainland standards the pizza is a little pricey, but it is a good as or better than any pizzeria I've eaten at on the mainland. But then there is their chicken ptarmigan!!!! One friend of mine from NY City actually will make a trip out to Fire Island simply because he got the urge to have a chicken parm at the Grove Pizza. This past summer I had chicken parm at a high priced restaurant near Westborough, MA. All I could think was how the Grove Pizza's version was cheaper and better tasting! read more

My cell service on Fire Island was not the greatest, so I did not have a chance to check out the Yelp reviews for this place before my friend and I decided to pop in here for a bite to eat on a Sunday afternoon. I am surprised the reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, because our experience was very underwhelming. We opted for table service so we could sit out on the patio. Our server was slow to bring water, slow to take our order, slow to bring our food, and slow to present our check. I know it's summer and I know it's the beach and I know I was getting away from the hustle-and-bustle of the city....but hurry up already because I want to get back to laying out on the beach! I thought our pizza was just ok also, nothing to write home about. Be forewarned this place is cash only. They have an ATM inside, but the ATM fee is $4 (plus whatever your own bank charges you to use a foreign ATM). read more

The BEST regular and garlic knot slices you can get anywhere!!! We look forward to this place anytime we go to Cherry Grove. Pricey of course, but it's worth it. They have gluten free options. Its pretty damn good. I actually ate there two times in a four day stay. First time we ordered the whole pie which we scarffed down. the dough was great as was the cheese and sauce. Service was fine save the lack of refills on the water. 2nd time we went for slices. 2 slices: $7.50 which is a little high but to be expected on the isle. I would recommend and go again. Its quick, cheap(er) and delicious and it was right under the hotel. read more
