She's competitive on the price of contact lenses and I like that can support a local business over big box or internet sellers. I live in the Bay Area but still have Dr. Tang as my optometrist. That's how much I like her and appreciate her practice. She works extremely hard at being professional yet still building relationships with her patients. I've been going to her for at least 10-15 years and she's just the best. As for the other reviews complaining about money, you always have the option to look around for eyeglasses and find cheaper deals. I don't think the staff forces you to buy from them. As long as you're clear, it isn't an issue. read more

I have been going to Dr. Tang for several years now. She is extremely professional, helpful and thorough during each appointment. I have gotten glasses from her, contacts, and most recently she helped me understand and undergo LASIK treatment. My last visit with her was for my six-month LASIK follow up exam. I work out of the area now...like, WAY out - in the Midwest, and come back to Irvine just to see her. I made the mistake of having my one week and one month follow up appointments in Kansas City and had NO IDEA they were supposed to measure my vision. I felt ripped off going to them. This comparison has really reinforced what a wonderful doctor Dr. Tang is. I have always had the good fortune of having VSP and despite feeling like I was paying a little more than I'd like, I really think that Dr. Tang is worth it. Your eyes are valuable, so spending more to get professional care is totally worth it. read more

Dr. Tang actively called and showed her passion to help me solve the glasses issue I had, so I made an appointment and went there and the tech guy "G" found out the problem was what I suspected - the distance between my pupil (PD) on my glasses was incorrectly marked by the other technician. It was 0.5cm off. G also adjusted my frame to make it more "flat" and not so curved as the original design, so it won't cause as much dizziness. They replaced the glasses with free of charge (it took 2 weeks) and finally I can see clear and straight. They said that there's a warranty for both lenses and the frame (I forgot it's 1 or 2 years), and I think it's a pretty good insurance (although the frame + lenses combined price after my VSP insurance for this not-so-expensive Nike frame is still high...$330), but at least I get this insurance so I won't have to worry about they won't replace my lenses for mistakes like the one I had earlier and said there's no problem (the other tech guy tried to tell me there was no problem, and he said that it is normal that glasses feels different in vision than the contact lenses). Thank you Irvine Optometry, especially Dr. Tang for being very nice and kind, and also willing to help me to solve the problem. Look for the tech guy "G" to help you on adjusting glasses, he knows the know-how pretty well. read more

I am very happy with Irvine Optometry . They are not cheap but I get thorough examinination. I used to work for a medical device company and I became familiar with some aspects of optometery and this is a top of the line practice. I could go to Costco, stick my face into a vision tester and get a prescription. but it is not what is considered adequate vision care. read more

Dr. Tang is awesome! Super warm and friendly and provides excellent care for pre & post Lasik-op. I had a - 8 contact lens prescription and was basically blind w/o glasses or contacts for 20+ years. At the age of 31 I finally decided to get Lasik and I'm so glad I did! December 2018 marks one year since my procedure with Dr. Tran (Coastal Vision) and I have perfect vision (20/20) with only a slight astigmatism. I never thought I'd see the day where I could see and it's the best gift I could have given myself. I was in and out within 1 hour, eyes checked out good ( always good news )....staff was very helpful, Dr Tang was great...she is easy to talk with and knows her craft very well. Dr. Ruth Tang is the best. Recently moved here and had to set up all my doctors including an eye doctor. Dr. Tang happened to be close to where I live so decided to give her a try. This was my first visit with Dr. Tang and all I was looking for was a quick and easy eye exam. I got lasic last year and in order to keep up the life-time guarantee I have to get a yearly eye exam. Even though my vision is 20/20 (thank you lasic!!) she still took the time to personally meet me, and to make sure my eyes were healing properly. Another plus is they work great with VSP, the whole appointment only cost me $10. In addition, I get $130 towards any pair of sunglasses at the office courtesy of VSP since I got lasic (something I would have never known)! Overall, great experience! read more

I've been to many optometrists in my life. Dr Tang is one of the best, if not the best. She hides her impeccable credentials on the wall of an unimposing room. She is bright, enthusiastic, patient, and friendly, and does not hide her intelligence, so feel free to ask her about all things eye-related. She has many years of experience, and we both had a good laugh at how much practical knowledge we have in our respective fields while forgetting the theory underlying the unrelated early college courses we once loved. The staff is diligent and careful, professional but not rushed and still personable. You will enjoy having your once-yearly eye exam done here. They have very nice frames you will want to be seen in, and I had to ask for frames that were a little more practical because, I really don't care how I look in reading glasses. I'll save that money for something else. I asked them for my prescription so I could order some prescription sunglasses online to save some money, and the assistant told me to let them know what frames I like as they can get a discount, so feel free to let them know if you plan on going online after your exam to buy glasses. read more

Dr. Ruth Tang is so sweet and professional. It's hard nowadays to find a doctor that genuinely cares about you. Dr. Tang is very personable and is great at making you feel comfortable every step of the way while she's checking up on your eyes. She listens to your concerns and makes sure to answer all your questions. She is very prompt and I've never had to wait longer than 5-10 min for my appointment! Her assistants are also friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of glasses and give out contact samples and eye drops. Overall, I don't think I will be switching doctors soon and will plan to stick with Dr. Tang for as long as I'm in the Irvine area! read more
