My eye health has always been a priority in my life. Dr. Tang and her staff are great! I first saw Dr. Tang in the beginning of 2020, while I was pregnant. She and her staff were friendly and very cautious about COVID, in wiping down the equipment to wearing masks. Dr. Tang was very thorough in her examination. She made sure I was comfortable and understood my concerns. Almost a year later, still they are diligent in keeping their patients safe with masks and wiping down equipment before and after use. The positive reviews are real! I felt they only offer certain "add ons" or additional tests when necessary. They are not pushy like some other places. Dr. Tang is old school, in a good way! I've been to the newer "state of the art" places where they'd utilized machines to measure your eye sight. I found that to be less accurate for me and was very expensive. That year, I had to look for another doctor to correct my vision. Also, I can email them if I have any questions. So I am very happy that I found Dr. Tang and so grateful she's close to my house as well. I'd definitely recommend my family and friends to go to her. read more

I haven't seen an optometrist in over a decade and I'm really glad I came here. I always thought I didn't need glasses since I can see very well when looking far but Dr. Tang informed me that I'm actually farsighted and I would be a good candidate for computer glasses. For work I stare at a computer for almost 8 hours a day and took her advice and got some computer glasses. They've honestly made a world of difference. I can see the screen better and my eyes feel less stressed after a day of work. I highly recommend Irvine Optometry. Dr. Ruth Tang and her staff were awesome. I made an appointment for my wife as she was in need of some reading glasses, and for myself for a new contact lens prescription. They didn't have a massive selection of glasses to pick from, but after some assistance from a super nice and helpful elderly lady, my wife was able to find a nice Tiffany&Co. pair which look great and didn't break the bank. The only 1 thing I'd say to check on before you go in is on the initial eye exam fee. The exam itself went great, Dr. Ruth Tang did a thorough exam and was great to talk to. When it came to pay, however, I was charged $150.00 for what I assume was for the eye exam and contact lens fitting fee (even though I have VSP insurance). Nevertheless, the service was great enough where I was happy to pay. Due to my astigmatism in my left eye, Dr. Tang suggested I try out the Acuvue Moist contacts to see how I like them. A week later on my follow up I placed the order for my contacts. Dr. Tang and her staff (Michael and Chi(I think was his name)) helped get me the best deal on a years worth of contact lenses - something no other Optometrist has ever done for me. I am a new patient of Dr. Tang's, and I expect I will be going to her for quite a while! Right away when I scheduled my appointment, I could already tell how caring the entire staff at Irvine Optometry is. They made sure to send all the appropriate forms right away into my email, and were very patient in explaining the specifics of the forms as needed. I arrived a little early for my appointment expecting to wait a little while, but they took me back almost right away. One of the ladies on staff took down some more information about my previous prescription, then took a few measurements down. Retinal scan is offered for ~$40 extra, but nobody will push you to do it. Still, I thought it was neat that they offered it. After another brief wait, I went in to see Dr. Tang. She was very knowledgable, and also very patient in answering all my questions. I don't think I've ever learned so much about eyes in one day! She was also happy to chat with me while she switched between tests. I always find it very pleasant when doctors seem to care about their patients as people, so that was a big plus for me. Once she had decided my prescription, Dr. Tang even took the time to talk me through what the best way to go through my insurance would be, so that I wouldn't have to wait longer than necessary between getting glasses and contacts. She also gave me multiple different kinds of sample contacts in my prescription to make sure I find the best fitting ones before making a purchase. Lastly, when I went to pick out glasses, another staff member came through without being asked and helped me to find a few different pairs to try on in the style I was looking for. He even went to double check in their computer system when I lamented that a style I liked didn't come in quite the color I was hoping to find. In the end, I was able to find just the perfect set with his help! Dr. Ruth Tang is truly the best of the best, and she fosters an environment with her staff that allows patients to walk away feeling confident that they have received the best care possible. read more

AMAZING SERVICE! I have been a client here since 1998 but I just had my annual checkup and feel compelled to share my positive experience. My eyes have been shifting a lot recently since I turned 50. One eye is far-sighted the other is short-sighted. I have astigmatism in both and my eyes are "flat" since I had lasik surgery. All of this adds up to a tricky case to solve. Dr Tang and her team have gone way beyond any reasonable person's expectations to find a prescription that works for me. They have seen me multiple times as they work to fine tune the solution. Not one single time has anyone been anything but accommodating and sympathetic. I am truly blown away by the level of care they have delivered. This is my second year with Irvine Optometry. I'm so thankful I found this place on Yelp! Dr. Tang is the best optometrist and both her and her staff are very welcoming, friendly and professional. Their office is very clean and located in a shopping center with lots of parking. My husband started seeing her too (he had been driving to his old optometrist in LA that's he's been seeing for the past 20 years) and he really likes her as well. Dr. Tang's examination is very thorough and she makes sure I understand everything that is going on. I have a lazy eye which makes my situation tricky, but Dr. Tang had really helped me with finding an accurate prescription to help my vision. I also like that they give me all my options without being pushy. Their selection of frames is small, but good! And if you ever need help picking out frames I highly recommend Ji! Don't go to this optometrist. They're a total ripoff if all you're looking to do is get contact lenses. I was just going to get my annual contact lens exam since you cannot buy contacts without a current prescription (which is total bs). The optometrist was very nice and the exam took quite awhile as they were very thorough. I was thinking.. all this for $20 bucks.. amazing. My vision plan with VSP offers $120 coverage for contact lenses and and exam. Well lo and behold, the contact lens exam cost $120. My vision was the same as the year before and my prescription had not changed one bit, but yet I had to pay $120 just for the exam. They told me that just a regular eye exam would have cost $20, but a contact lens exam was $120. When I saw the receipt, I laughed because they charged over $200 for the "contact lens exam". I had to pay $120 out of pocket and the insurance company paid the rest. Then on top of that, the optometrist was extremely pushy and tried to get me to buy the contact lens from them directly. I refused and asked for my prescription. I decided to order my contact lens online and have my insurance company reimburse me. The next day, I get a call from my insurance company saying I already had a claim for contact lenses. The optometrist had put in the order for contact lenses without my authorization! I suggest you save your money if you're just looking to get a routine eye exam. read more

I have had contacts for 12 years and glasses for 15 years and have had plenty of eye exams. NEVER have I been charged separately for a contact exam and glasses exam when done at the same time. Generally the contact exam is more expensive but includes an eye glass exam. My insurance covered the eye glass one ($100) and they charged $120 for the contact exam on top of that. The exam costs more the worse your eyes are - absolutely ridiculous! She also had me try Proclear contacts for astigmatism saying they were the best ones for breathability - switching from my usual Acuvue Advance. She charged $80/box of 6 one month disposables and they are the WORST contacts I've ever had (I've tried multiple types of Acuvue & Focus brand lenses with no problems). They dry out very fast and get protein deposits. To top it all off the receptionist was extremely rude and slow. Unless you want to pay twice as much as necessary for a good eye exam, do NOT go here. The only reason it's not just one star is that Dr. Tang does a good job - but still not worth the money. read more
