My fiancé and I came here for the first time because of the reviews we read/seen. Unfortunately, it was not as pictured. The pastries were not warmed up and served cold (at least provide customers the option), the coffees were bleh (served in cup, rather than a mug), the bathrooms were extremely dirty, and service is not good as well. I LOVE Ironsmith Coffee Roasters. They are one of a kind for sure. Their coffee is incredible, smooth, flavorful, just right. I also love their Chai...sweet or a little spicey - delicious both ways. I love that they serve Prager Brother's bread, its a staple for me, and knowing that they serve it here makes me want to come back more and more. This place is great, the seating is a little tight inside, but it also feels kinda like a family. I ordered a Mayan mocha that has cayenne pepper. I was not warned of how hot this coffee is and am used to spicy foods; however, when I got it, it was extremely spicy and not drinkable at all! I asked them to change it for something else or for the same coffee with less cayenne pepper but I was told they could not do that. I am very disappointing about the service on this place and I would not recommend it at all. My favorite get-work-done coffee shop in San Diego. I usually have a hard time focusing and getting work done in one sitting but for some reason whenever I'm here (3-4x a week) I have no issues laser focusing. I think it's due to: the amazing playlist, awesome coffee, their ice teas are brewed on point--most coffee shops don't pay much attention to their teas and either over brew or underbrew (*cough cough* communal coffee), and the awesome staff. bravo! read more

I really like the service, the layout, and the pastry selection but personally not a huge fan of the coffee. It's a little on the lighter/weaker side even though I got a cortado which doesn't have a lot of milk in it. But, they clearly know what they're doing and again, the dislike of their bean is more of a personal preference. read more

I'm not an expert on espresso drinks, but I do have a difficult time finding a quality almond milk latte. And since I've been going to Ironsmith, it's even harder. I've become spoiled with perfection!! Now that I'm accustomed to the quality of drinks I get at ironsmith, It's become increasingly frustrating to find a good latte when I'm outside of Encinitas. It would be a mistake to pass this place up!! You would think with coffee this good that you have to deal with snotty coffee shop attitude, but it's quite the opposite- the service is friendly, humble and engaging. I also find the patrons to be easy going as well. I got an iced almond milk latte, which tastes excellent and not too strong! My boyfriend got an iced mocha and it tastes like a high class chocolate milk! We also got the carrot apple bread which I scarfed down in less then a minute. The overall atmosphere was cool as well, and there was some awesome art work on the walls. Raul and Matt have done an amazing job at creating a coffee space that is incredibly inviting and awe inducing. On my first visit I indulged in a "flash brewed" (pour-over style) cup of their Ethiopia, but on ice. Wow! This was probably the tastiest cup of an Ethiopia that I have ever tasted. This morning I had a Cortado and it was perfect. The balanced taste combination of the espresso and steamed milk was spot-on. so many roasters within 3 miles of encinitas and the 101. had their cold brew which was good. brew wise it was between revolution and lofty in terms of lingering after taste (closer to lofty). so if you like a semi charred cold brew that doesn't get mild while it lingers in the ice, you'll enjoy ironsmith. its a must we go back to try their flat white since its something we hardly see here in the states. first time having it was in new zealand where it was their latte minus the heavy steamed milk froth. read more

The vibe is awesome with amazing art, vintage motorcycles, and usually a dog or two hanging out with their owners.
