Such a beautiful spot located right on the 101 near the beautiful La Paloma theater, Filiberto's Mexican food, and the awesome Encinitas sign. This location has got some great drinks and friendly staff. If you are coming to get a work space, make sure you come early because they've got limited seating here and sometimes it may be hard to find a spot to set up your laptop and do some work. There are some seats and tables outside on the sidewalk but if you want the shade, wait till after noon so the sun moves so you don't get burnt. The work space is a little noisy with the open window. You can hear the sounds of the streets, trains going by and any sirens, you'll hear it. It's a great space, but if you get distracted easily, bring your headphones and plug in! read more

Great new coffee place in the hood. The coffee itself was great. The milk part of the Latte was not quite hot enough, but normally places make it too hot (scalding) so a little tepid was ok. Good crew - good vibe. read more

Ironsmith Coffee is hands down the best pure cup of coffee in San Diego. I'm not talking about drinks with syrups and blended crappacinos. I'm talking about the real stuff, drip and espresso, in the purest form, all served at their delicious peak. I have been to most of the "speciality" coffee shops in San Diego county and truly believe these guys are at the top of the game. Matt and Raul are intent on delivering the finest product and along the way, educating anyone who asks about how the process works or someone that wants to learn more. I personally asked Matt some questions while he was roasting and he carefully explained everything that he was doing, making sure that I didn't feel like an idiot for not knowing what he was talking about. Side note, the toast here is great. Perfect if you need a little grub with your caffeine. Seating is a bit limited, so on a busy day your laptop may not find a home, however don't miss out on the excellent coffee for that reason. read more

I can only speak about the Chai and not the coffee but I will say it's one of the best chai's I've had. The place itself is small and cute. They have a few pastries, I tried the cinnamon scone which was very tasty. I would recommend if your in the area to give this place a try. read more

We were actually heading to Lofty Coffee before we spotted this joint. I'm glad we decided to stop in. My husband got a small mocha and it was really good. That says a lot because I'm not a fan of chocolatey drinks. It was very smooth and did not have one bit of bitterness. I had already picked up my iced coffee at another nearby coffee shop earlier that morning so I didn't order anything for myself but I look forward to coming back and trying their latte. The service was fantastic as well which is a huge plus! read more

Second time here... Love the vibe- and I initially was a bit shocked about how teeny the cups were but they took care of that and upgraded me to a larger size. Great coffee- great vibes - and I may be slightly obsessed with the guys green eyes that runs the front. I mean, maybe. read more

Great espresso drinks all around. Cortados often come with too much milk but they do it right here. Ordering online is easy and a good experience too! read more

This coffee shop never ceases to amaze me! The time Matthew will take to talk to you no matter how busy they are truly enhances my coffee drinking experience. This crew truly knows what team work is all about and it shows with the product they put out. Have tried a little bit of everything, next on my list is to ask Matthew if we can hangout! Will be back again! read more

I went in so exited to get a Matcha latte. I paid $8 for it and it came out watery and gross. So disappointed because this place had such great reviews. Won't be coming back here. read more

just like beers with no bottle/can dates, I can't accept coffee beans with no roast date. there's a "best by" date. which tells me nothing.

My usual order here is a latte but today I went for a London Fog and it did not disappoint! Not only was it an EXCEPTIONAL London Fog, it is my go-to from this day forward! The smooth-like-silk texture of this tea was crazy in the off-the-charts kinda crazy way! I ordered it substituting almond milk for the whole milk and this may be the reason for it's stellar performance - but most of the time, it's due to the Barista's skills. The cup he put together for me today was by far, the best combined effort by both the almond milk and Barista! We drive from the OC and stop here without fail whenever we are in the area. Oh! This is the first time I had their toast with maple butter and jam - do get this too! Do it! read more

This place is probably my favorite coffee place. The decor is very rustic with lots of wood and welded tables. The indoor/outdoor concept they have in the front with the large slide up garage door that they usually open during operational hours is amazing and allows a nice breeze to fill up this small coffee shop. At times, it is crowded and hard to get a seat, and at other times, seating is plentiful. They have plenty of outlets to plug in your laptop; I love working at this place and can spend a whole day here just doing work and drinking coffee. They have amazing espresso drinks and fantastic coffee. I have had every espresso drink on the menu and it has always been spot on. I usually get my espresso drinks slightly sweetened, and they will add the perfect amount of sugar to my drink when they make it (of course, you can add it yourself after you get your drink). With that said, this isn't starbucks. They don't have frappucinos or other crazy sweet drinks. This is a really good coffee shop that focuses on great coffee and highlighting the flavor of the coffee itself, rather than masking it with a hundred syrups and tons of sugar. They also have a selection of baked goods which they sell until they run out. And their teas are amazing as well. Basically, you cannot go wrong with anything you order here. I have never had issues parking; there is parking behind the coffee shop, street parking and there is a parking lot next door that you aren't supposed to park at, but during the weekends, the other business is closed, so I usually park there for an hour or so while I enjoy my coffee (and sit where I can see my car just in case). I currently live in LA and definitely miss this place! It is my first stop on any San Diego trip and definitely worth the drive. read more

Yes, two stars cos we have experienced better. We came here because they came highly recommended by the folks at Heartwork. So, we came in on a Saturday afternoon and scanned the menu on the wall located next to the cash register with an employee just starring at us. Three employees were behind the counter standing there...no hello, hi, or "What can I get started for you?" We tell the person at the register our order and while the boyfriend is paying, I make eye contact with a barista...give him a smile and yea, didn't get one back. Didn't feel welcomed at all. As for our drinks, they were decent. We actually found the maple bacon scone we had to be the highlight of our experience there. Service is key and the employees lacked that. If customer service is lacking, what's gonna make patrons want to come back, especially when other coffee shops are right down the street. #justsaying read more

What a coincidence that my first time at this place here that they were celebrating their one year anniversary! I'm glad I was introduced to this place by a good buddy of mine, who knew the owners! The place I'd describe to be very quaint and full of character, being in a prime location on the main street. Great vibe, kind and knowledgeable baristas, and of course excellent coffee. Shout out to Matt, one of the owners, who shared a sandwich with us. Keep up the great work guys! I will be back. read more

Oh my freaking goodness talk about deliciousness in a cup! We came here because I needed to pick up a donation item for an auction we were hosting for work and decided to get an iced coffee. It was so freaking good! I wish that they had another location down in the Eastlake area. I think that it would do really well down here. read more

Disappointing. Sadly, the flavor of this coffee does not match its price point i.e.overpriced. & On this occasion, the staff was unfamiliar with their menu. read more

New favorite local coffee spot! If you're interested in trying some different coffees I'd definitely add this spot to your list :) baristas are helpful in directing you on what coffee would fit your taste and they were super friendly! Amazing coffee. The shop is super cute and Matt is really nice. They have good coffee and tea options and i love that they offer oat milk. Best coffee in San Diego. read more

I had my friend Aaron recommend this new coffee shop to me, and I am so glad he did! First thing I noticed when I walked in is that it is a bit small, however there are plenty of outlets for people needing to study or do work. I was happily greeted by the staff, who were also happy to assist me with the menu. I ordered a latte with organic soy milk which was perfectly well done. My friend Aaron ended up meeting me there and suggested I order their cold brew coffee. When I went to go ask for it, Matt, one of the owners, said, "I'm so glad you asked! We have a limited supply made." Got it, tasted it, and it was oh so smooth. It had an easy, earthy flavor to it, no need for milk or sugar. Last thing, I tried their espresso blondie and blueberry coffee cake.. AMAZING! The blondie is made with their own espresso and the coffee cake was suuuuper moist. I honestly can't stop thinking about it. I'll definitely be back here! Thanks Ironsmith! read more

Great vibe (saw at least 4 dogs while there), exquisite coffee, perfect location. Also have trendy apparel.

Love that the coffee is always fresh and crafted with attention to detail. Their pastries are also the best in town :)

Came here on the recommendation of a coworker. The staff was very nice and could sense that I was uncomfortable paying 6.50 for toast with almond butter and jelly and 4 for a 12oz coffee. Seriously Encinitas? Skipped the toast, ordered a roast. The barista was very nice and said she would make me americano if I didn't like the coffee. I drank the coffee, from a batch, not a pour over, nothing spectacular. Bummed that you don't offer an affordable local's cup Sorry Ironside, you only got three stars and a dollar tip for the friendly staff read more

Second time here and I had the Colombia. I ordered it and it was ready within a minute. Not sure that's how it should be for a pour over but I guess it was a quick... not that it had to be at 1 in the afternoon on a Saturday. Wish they took their time to actually make a fresh cup of coffee instead of pulling from the massive batch. If it was a bit cheaper from a big batch I wouldn't mind. First time I came here was early in the morning and there wasn't anyone else there so they took their time to make the coffee. This place is a bit of a hit or miss. Might have to come back one more time at an odd hour to see how things are really done. read more

Favorite coffee spot! They specialize in wet drinks and everyday the thought of one of there cups makes my mouth water! There's a sweet vibe in this one and a delightful influx of people flock to enjoy the deliciousness brewing here! I first discovered this little corner coffee spot last year and I'm hooked. The owners totally rock and genuinely care about the quality of their product and service. They are passionate about providing the best and I'm grateful to have this treat a block from my house! Hands down you've got to try! ... with cation that is... it is addictive, and you will only want more! Be prepared! read more

The macchiato I received was perfect. The right amount of milk and a clean, smooth taste. As a bonus, the space was very well kept and the employees were all very friendly from my observations and interactions. They clearly take a lot of pride in their work and it shows in the details. This is a quality coffee house that's worth visiting. They specialize in coffee but they do offer a limited amount of food, basically breads and pastries, if you are hungry. I did not try any but they appeared quite fresh and the people around me seemed to enjoy their selections. read more

These guys have been and always will be one of my favorites. Matt & Raul are so genuine with phenomenal knowledge of coffee & great leadership / business skill which is evident in their relationships with the baristas. They're appropriately priced for the quality and it's worth every penny!! The only downsides are the seating (extremely uncomfortable for me since I have a minor back problem) and when first walking in the back wall is overwhelmingly cluttered with plastic bins. The atmosphere is great if you face away from the wall, but it stresses me out to be in there these days. Otherwise I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! It does more than just "get the job done," the coffee flavor is on point and I love to give their beans as a gift. read more

There are a lot of coffee places on the 101 in Encinitas but this place is the best, in my opinion. The Barista special is really good, strong but not too strong and just the right amount of sweetness. The liquid hustle is cold brew with espresso and that stuff is strong and will make you ready for anything. The staff is awesome too! read more

Ironsmith If its coffee flavor and culture you are after in the Beach Community of Encinitas, Ca. you might just want to find yourself a spot at the counter alongside laptop rattling freelancers, artists, surfers and businessmen alike. Matt and Raul, owners of Ironsmith Coffee Roasters have managed to carve themselves out a niche in the seemingly overcrowded coffee scene on the Coast Highway by serving the best coffee blends and roasting on sight in a creative welcoming atmosphere. I wouldn't be surprised if we see this brand grow quickly along the coast! read more

Don't know what a double latte Italian mocha zinger with a twist Pokemon frothier is? That's cool, this place makes ordering and explanation of drinks a breeze. They even have a cheat sheet board showing the difference between the different drinks, a feature that keeps even the most novice coffee drinker free from the shame stare by the hipster standing in line behind you. Fear not, the staff is nothing but good people, good vibes, and killer coffee. If you have to ask, I made up the drink mentioned above, but I dare them to put it on the menu. read more

I'm not a coffee buff by any means. I drink the free stuff at the office. I like coffee flavored things but the coffee flavored sugar cream sold to kids around the world (Seriously when did that start? when I was young it was taboo. Right under buying beer for a minor) is just too much. Ironsmith really impressed me. I was lucky enough to be able to meet the owner Matt while he did his spiel of why he opened this place. He's dedicated to the craft like a science. Small batches until he gets it right, taking measurements, being mindful of temps and times. It speaks to my scientist yet foodie heart! We tried a Guatemalan coffee as well as an Ethiopian one. I could tell the difference but I realized I'm probably not going to be a connoisseur anytime soon. Fine. I leave my fate into the capable, local dedicated hands at Ironsmith. Done. read more

Really good coffee but c'MON with the insane coffee prices. Dude told me that he met the roaster which was supposed to justify the four dollars for a small cup of drip coffee.
