Our server Chuck has been here for 9 years. He has a very personable style that makes you feel very comfortable. Pork schnitzel and filet of sole were very good. Noticing that many restaurants do not have bread on the table anymore.just an observation. read more

The food is no good. They undercook their Sword Fish. The appetizers are ok. Great ambiance. Drinks are a little on the weak side. Service is slow. read more

I think the rating on here is a little low. I've ordered from this place multiple times and the food is consistent, good quality, and well seasoned. Tastes like a real chef is at the helm. I'd recommend the shepard's pie, chicken sandwich, and Caesar salad. The soups are excellent as well. read more

I have tried almost everything on the entree menu and nothing has disappointed thus far. The short ribs are delish, the meatloaf is a hit, the pork chop was good (could have cooked just a bit shorter), but above all these... their shrimp and grilled cheddar scallion cornbread is amazing! read more

Iron Works Tavern is reopening under new ownership and we were given the pleasure of an invitation to the soft opening. The interior has been redone and updated and is very welcoming. The waitstaff and chefs had the opportunity to experience what it is like to provide great service to the guests. Management did a wonderful job in organizing the event as each table received a couple of different menus so that guests had to choose varying foods and chefs prepared what appeared to be almost everything on the new menu. A coffee, tea, or soft drink was provided first. My husband was given the sandwich menu from which he chose the bacon burger and fries. He deemed it as pleasing and tasty. I wanted to take a bite of the burger but he ordered it medium and it was too rare for me. I was given a choice of four hot entrees and really enjoyed the chicken, spinach, and cavatelli dish - a good choice for my tastebuds. I would have loved some bread with that entree but it was not available yet. As a sweet closing, we were given the dessert menu from which we could share one dessert. The cinnamon and maple bread pudding was excellent! Our server, Jackie, did an excellent job in meeting our needs with a smile. read more

Doubling up on my earlier review as I went back again last night to see if the salmon dish was as good as the first time, and it was. Just an excellent combination of succotash with edaname and faro, compound butter, salmon and a sweet romesco type sauce. The salmon alone is very good but the combination of these flavors was on point. It's probably a seasonal dish so might want to check before going. I was unable to try any other dishes but they looked good. I travel a lot and I find that so many restaurants are a grill and fry shop with bland food. This restaurant takes pride in their food and I cannot recommend it enough. Congrats to the whole crew here, well run operation, which is so lacking in our post Covid world. read more

This was awhile ago, but seeing I save all my food pictures that remind me of where I have been, I decided to rate this place. My husband and I came for an Easter Brunch and I have to say that the Buffet Bruch was amazing! I wish I would have taken more pictures but sadly I didn't. I would suggest that if you go here (make reservations months ahead) that you ask to be seated upstairs because downstairs kinda sounded like being in a crowded cafeteria. I would definitely go again but bring your appetite! After that we went to relax at the beach that wasn't far away. A bit cold that time of year, but a great way to digest. read more

Staying at the hotel attached so ordered some take out. A Cobb salad with chicken and a side of bread. The quality and taste of the salad & chicken was good. The portion was minuscule for a $26 take out salad, and they forgot the bread, and then the plastic ware package at been opened and the fork was missing. Overall I might give them another chance but the value for what i received just wasn't there. The manager needs to be watching what is going into takeout as much as he watches what is hitting the floor. Getting a salad smaller then a $9 chick fil a salad as an entree says something about the value. read more

I would leave 6 stars if it would let me. Fantastic meal! The swordfish and tuna entrees were excellent and the coconut cream pie was to die for. All around great experience - service, drinks, food. Can't wait to go back! read more

The food was just okay although service was actually pretty good ! I am leaning more toward a 3.5 than 3 because of the service. We wanted a light dinner hence ordered the soup, crab cake, brussels sprouts and the salmon. The wood grilled salmon was not bad and the crab cakes came out okay. The brussels sprouts were okay but definitely over-priced at $14. The soup was quite salty and I couldn't eat most of it. Hence, I am not looking forward to returning to this place read more

Tonight my partner and I ordered Iron Works delivery and I was very happy!! The food arrived fast despite it being a Friday night. Plus, I'm a newly vegetarian so it was awesome seeing some options for me. I got the Cauliflower and Lentil fritters and a Black Bean/ Chickpea burger. The fritters were delicious and fluffy with a yummy sauce. The burger was tasty and I also enjoyed my side of truffle fries, not to mention a pickle! My partner really enjoyed a small Caesar salad (that I tried and it was great!) with real croutons. He also enjoyed the burger and it was properly cooked. Overall, we were very pleased. It's a little expensive but the packaging was impressive, they gave us free cookies and everything tasted wonderful. I would definitely order again :) read more

First time here and it was excellent. Our server was amazing and so attentive. The food was sooooo good, very generous portions and we loved the presentation. I will definitely be going back and will tell everyone I know just how good this place is! read more

Stopped in for a little bite to eat as we dropped our son off at the airport and my wife had never been here. Ordered the cauliflower fritters - simply amazing - and the prime rib sandwich to share. We were so pleasantly surprised that they cut the sandwich in half and served both my wife and I with their delicious fries on our own plates as well. We didn't even have to ask them if they could do that for us - they just did it. So thoughtful! read more

The food I had was good - I had crabcakes and a cauliflower dish. But the service was very, very meh. One guy came and poured my water. He spilled water on the floor - it splashed on my shoes/foot and created a hazardous situation right by my table. It was quite a bit of water. The whole time I was there, no one came to clean up the water. I thought it was very rude of him to not acknowledge his messy pouring and very unprofessional to leave a little puddle in the middle of the walkway. I could only assume he could care less about what I thought. Nor did he care if I were to slip and fall when I got out of my seat. Overall, between the waitress, messy pour guy (who looked like, based on interactions I saw, he may have been a manager) and just the service - I felt like they didn't care too much about me as a customer. I was here on business and I won't return during my next business trip there. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's clean, the staff is excellent, and the food is delicious. They're very allergy-conscious; I have celiac disease and there are a lot of options for me on the menu. I got the short rib tonight and I actually wanted to reverse engineer the sauce, it was incredibly tasty and perfect for a fall evening. Try this place if you haven't, you won't be disappointed. read more

Just had dinner at the bar. Food was excellent. Service was ok, but not great. I have eaten here 5-6 times over the last couple years, whenever I travel to RI. It is always the same, the food outshines the service. I guess you could have a worse situation. :-) read more

Step back into history Way back in 1867 Thomas Jefferson Hill built a factory to make iron malleable castings. Quite an impressive place for the time and the whole area grew up around his factory. Unfortunately like many buildings at the time it caught fire and burned down. It was rebuilt in 1918 but eventually went out of business. The malleable iron castings never returned but a pretty interesting restaurant remains. The Iron Works Tavern is now located in part of the building where the innovative old factory once stood. It still looks very cool from the outside but once inside the huge eight foot and three hundred pound doors it becomes obvious that this isn't just another place to fill your belly. There is a lot of history in here. Exposed beams and pipes, cool bricks and stones walls and lots of plaques and old pictures grace the walls. We spent a long time in the lobby just taking in the cool ambiance and history dripping off every corner. Seems there was always something new and interesting to look at or read, Of course they have more than just history, some pretty good food is also served here. The menu is pretty creative with stuff like Mediterranean ravioli, rolled stuffed eggplant, fried smelts, shrimp Jefferson and some cool salads, burgers and sandwiches that are available. Although some of the food can get quite pricey, inexpensive luncheon specials are offered that change from day to day. Fish & chips. roast turkey dinner, pot pies and lasagna are all under ten bucks during the week. Definitely a cool place to have lunch or a more formal dinner. Unusual and different food with a fantastic building with all sorts of interesting stuff to look at. A place to go when you get the desire to step back into history. read more

We stopped in here tonight for dinner with a friend who has a couple month old. My friend went to change her baby in the bathroom and very surprised there was not a diaper changing table. We got the cowboy caviar and hand cut fries. The chips that came with the cowboy caviar didn't taste very fresh. The caviar (veg) itself was good. The hand cut fries were great and I loved dipping in the Rhode Island made hot sauces. read more

This place is consistently great. Good food, good atmosphere, and great service. I ordered the Jefferson cocktail, which was sublime. The rigatoni, and the cheesecake for dessert. Top notch place. We visited Iron Works Tavern to enjoy the Providence Restaurant week menu. It was my first visit here and the ambiance of the restaurant was very cool, has the appearance of an updated factory with modern finishes. There was a small lunch crowd and we were seated quickly. Service was generally good but somewhat slow considering how few people were dining. We all loved our appetizers...Caesar salad and New England Clam Chowder were excellent and highly recommend trying one or both! As for the main meals, we were divided in our feelings on the dishes. The swordfish catch of the day was excellently done and served with well prepared green beans and rice. The Mac and cheese (tavern special) looked delicious but did not have much of a taste disappointingly so two of us were bummed. The Thai fajitas were beautiful and fairly tasty as well. We also liked our desserts of a generous portion...chocolate mousse and cheesecake. Tips: This restaurant is easily accessible via TF Green airport and the attached train station (walk across the above ground bridge to the rental car garage and cross the street!). They have a gorgeous private upstairs space available for private events and parties...groups up to 125! Would love to be invited to an event here. They have dog goodie bags for $5 with homemade treats for any furry friends you had to leave at home! read more

Let me preface this by saying I'm a breakfast/brunch fan. I say this to whomever listens. Because I am. Sign 1: I signed up to have brunch in various places with varied strangers. Sign 2: I would not mind getting up really early (say 6 AM?) at the prospect of a lovely breakfast or brunch. Sign 3: I've done this a lot. It's the wonderful feeling of eating at the start of the day, when everything is filled with promise and there is no guilt in prospective indulgence. And so, on the last Sunday of November, I went to sample the brunch menu at Iron Works Tavern. Before turning into the parking space, I saw a hole-in-the-wall breakfast place across from it, and for some strange reason, felt like I should probably go there instead. There were a number of tables occupied when I got there -- seemingly regular patrons. The bar had what appeared like semi-full staffing (no kidding) yet no one wanted to make eye contact with me as I stood by the entrance, waiting. Finally, a busy server sits me down. Browsing through the menu, there isn't much of a selection. My bad. I thought sunday Brunch was a very special event but it seems to be relegated to a one page sheet of fancy selections. Uh-oh. Not the bright and sunny brunch I was looking forward to. I wanted to order the Mimosa right away! Finally settled on the Chef's Seasonal hash with Eggs while my companion decided on the special that day: Steak Eggs Benedict with Bechamel sauce and a glass of the Tavern Bloody Mary. The server assured me I made a very good, popular selection. First, coffee. Weak. Just like the bottomless coffee at a Denny's or IHOP. Disappointing. Then came the orders. Wow. What an over promise and under delivery. To their credit, they have the best tasting skillet potatoes in town. But that's about it. The food is not bad but it wasn't something to get up for, either. Corned beef hash tastes generic. Steak eggs benedict is, as I suspected, an off creation. Might as well have steak and eggs. Period. All is not lost: If you are the sort who values a fancy atmosphere and even fancier-sounding brunch menu over the savory taste and variety of the brunch menu itself, then this is the place for you. However, if like me, you'd like to start your day with very good coffee, the balance of a pretty place with good vibe, genuine service and great brunch menu that is not overpriced, then you should check out other places before this one. I left feeling slightly disappointed. One visit for the Brunch seems enough. Mental note, however: If I have a VIP guest to impress over brunch, this is the place to be. Or, if I want to have great cocktails at Happy Hour, or fancy lunch or dinner, I might come back. I drive out of there, appetite unsatisfied, and longingly look over to the breakfast/brunch place across the street, now closed for the rest of the Sunday.... read more

Amazing food. Not sure why this place has 4 stars. I was gonna take a photo of my meal but I ate it too fast.

This place has been totally redone since I was last there. It is much brighter and the seating flows better. There were four of us for lunch. Our waitress was very attentive but not intrusive. We all were extremely happy with our lunches, 2 of us had the farro salad with grilled vegetables with the addition of the chicken option. One had the tacos and one had a chicken sandwich on gluten free bread. After ordering gluten free bread she was advised the French fries did not have a dedicated fryer which is helpful information for someone with Celiac disease which she has. I am not one to review very often but it was very good. read more

My husband and enjoyed a fantastic lunch at Iron Works. I'm not one to post reviews but our experience warrants one. The food and, moreover, the service by our server, Diana, was just perfect. I commented to my husband that Diana was, by far, the best server we've ever had anywhere! Diana was attentive, friendly, funny and just an all around fantastic person! The restaurant had a cool atmosphere, too. Oh.... and the strawberry shortcake sundae for dessert, recommended by Diana, was out of this world delicious!. We will definitely be back! read more

Delicious overall. Salad was fresh and best fish tacos I've ever had. Service was friendly and prompt.

I feel happy to add my $.02 since some of the reviews on here are not doing this place any justice. My husband and I stopped here to grab something to eat on our way home bc it was close off the highway and yelp never steers me wrong. First we loved the decor and the ambiance of the building. Beautiful brick building, pretty flowers and hanging plants in the pots outside, nice big bar, cool exposed pipes on the ceiling and low lighting created a great vibe. Our waiter was very nice and we ordered the calamari app which was very good. Nice and crispy and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the Mac n cheese with the pulled beef short rib and I got the CBR sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The Mac n cheese was to DIE for. And my sandwich and salad was soooooooo good! I love Caesar dressing that is homemade and this dressing did not disappoint. Also, the tomato jam on my sandwich was sweet and savory and the chicken was fried and had such good breading on it. I seriously wish this place was closer to my house but *sigh* it is not. I hope one day I can end up here again. I truly hope this place does well. The food and service were amazing. read more
