    Buffalo Chicken Pie

The pizza is always so good here! On a garlicky, focaccia base, the pizza has tons of flavor. Very filling! We love the buffalo chicken as well as the pepperoni (they have a great red sauce). There was a heavy amount of ricotta which helped balance the buffalo sauce. Such a quick pick up and online ordering process as well. We brought to a nearby brewery to enjoy.

9/27/2025 Ate List: Pepperoni - 7.8 White Pizza- 7.4 Great spot. Well done Detroit Style. The Pepperoni was reliably above solid. Would absolutely get again. White Pizza was good - because of ingredients does not really taste so good on a reheat - feels like a bit of an acquired taste but still good.

Delicious pizza!! A little on the pricier side but if you like Detroit style pizza this is a great one to try out. Would definitely try some of their other menu options!

The food at Iron Born Pizza was amazing! The only bad part about this restaurant is the wait that often occurs because they don't have room in the restaurant. But, it is worth it! The food is amazing and the workers are very nice! GF friendly as well!

Thick crusty with a crispy outer layer, Iron Born makes a fantastic deep dish pizza. I usually order it to go and it's always just as good at home and a perfect size to share with others. It's a bit of a different style than other pies around here but definitely worth checking out!

Might be my favorite pizza in Pittsburgh! Their menu has an awesome selection of specialty pizzas, all distinctly different from one another and sound delicious. I ordered the chicken bacon broccoli ranch pie. It had tender roasted chicken, grilled broccoli, crispy bacon, and a creamy ranch sauce. It was absolutely delicious! The dough was thick but still fluffy, with an excellent crunch on the edges. It had the perfect amount of melted mozzarella cheese on top too. Each pie comes with 6 slices, which is super filling, and I ended up saving half for later. I'll definitely be coming back in the future! Best part is how close they are to Grist House, so you can order to to and walk down the street to pick it up.

Tried the white pizza and it did not disappoint. My only complaint was i could so with less of the caramelized onions or even none and maybe more tomatoes. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the pie. At first glance it seemed a little small and pricey at $18=1 pie/6 slices but it was super filling! And the crust....the crust was perfect! Perfectly crispy on the edges, airy and light and not too heavy. Heaven in a bite. If you like pizza that isn't your normal plain jane pizza, try this!!! I can't wait to try more pies from here.

It's time to stop kidding myself. I like to tell myself that Neapolitan pizza is my favorite, but then why do I constantly end up running to any Detroit style pizza place that I find? It's simply irresistible. If you know, you know. And in the world of Detroit style, Iron Born is king. From the days of Smallman galley, I was hooked. A massive menu of insane pizza creations, both white and red tops....all sitting on the best pizza crust you'll find anywhere. The deep crunch of a Detroit pizza is unmatched. The Forager is a can't miss....garlic cream, roasted mushrooms, ricotta, and drizzled with honey. Hits the spot every single time. Iron Born is honestly the best Detroit pizza I've experienced anywhere, and that's included in Detroit itself. Although just a few times per year, I've been visiting Pittsburgh on business for almost a decade now. In the early days I'd try new places. I'm not ashamed to admit that over the past 5 years I have not had anything in Pittsburgh but iron born. It's that good.

Very disappointing experience for all of us. The pizza sauce tasted like crushed tomatoes with some salt and pepper added. No flavor profile on it The gluten free crust was actually very good. Better than the normal crust in my opinion Not a place I'd recommend or return to. Overall not a good slice of pizza by any means We saw our waitress once the entire time sitting there as well

I usually don't even like deep dish, but sometimes I want it--and this was hands down the best I've had. The crust was super crunchy on the bottom and edges, with that perfect cheese caramelization that takes it to another level. The dough had a really nice light, airy texture that kept it from feeling too heavy. I also love that they offer unique topping combos you don't see at your average pizza shop. If you're looking for something different and seriously good, Iron Born is it.

I had tried Iron Born years ago when Federal Galley first opened. Definitely a unique type of pizza. For me I guess it's just too much fried dough, with a lot of sauce but not much cheese. It oddly reminded me of eating Pizza Huts deep dish pie as a kid. I was never fond of Pizza Hut to their pie, but my mother loved the deep dish so that would be the pie we would get. We were at Grist House and the food truck wasn't drawing our interest so we decided to try Iron Born. I ordered online and my husband picked it up while I held the fort down at the brewery. Definitely convenient ordering and within walking distance was also a plus. When he got back I was a little underwhelmed. Again, I think it's just personal preference. There was nothing wrong with the pie. It was warm the ingredients tasted fresh, it just wasn't something I would seek out. Too much dough for me, but if this is your style of pizza I think you will enjoy it.

This pizza is so good. I got takeout and it came pretty quickly and still pretty hot! This is the first time I've ever gotten iron born and I was very happy. Although next time, I'm definitely going to be going inside to eat! It looks like such a cute spot to eat at.

Decent thick pizza served hot and fresh. Stopped here for the first time and our Detroit style pizza selections certainly helped to resolve our lunchtime hunger fix. Would have liked a little bit more sauce for the size of the crust and would like to taste a little bit more of a garlic or flavor seasoning in it to take it to that next level. Pizza pricing was decent and as expected. No parking was available and the spot in the Strip appeared with very limited seating but they did their best to move folks in and out with the busy Open Streets Pittsburgh crowd. They did have a mini bar with seating on site as well.

"Meat Pie" I dare you to find more than a pepperoni

It's a proper neighborhood butcher shop on Butler Street, the kind of place that had mostly disappeared around here. They do whole animal butchery with meat sourced from local Pennsylvania farms, and you can feel how much the folks working there care about what they're doing. It's not a huge space, just a display case full of cuts, a wall of house made goods, and a small sandwich menu, but that's part of the charm. The staff were friendly and happy to point me in the right direction. The sandwiches are what really got me though. The smash burger is fantastic, a double patty on a challah bun with that special sauce, and you can actually taste the quality of the beef, which makes sense given the whole operation is built around good meat. I also grabbed some of their house made pastrami, and it did not disappoint, tender and full of flavor. Knowing everything is made in house, right down to the bacon and sausages, makes it even better. If you live nearby and don't have a butcher yet, this is the one.

Love the decor in the shop. There were many prepared food options in the fridge, as well as various cuts of meat/preparations of it. We got two sandwiches, the cheesesteak and the marbella. I dont think we ended up with the correct order because we didn't end up with a cheesesteak, but did not realize until we got home. I'm positive that if I went back to the shop they would've remedied the situation, but I didn't feel it was necessary! The sandwich we did end up with was good as well, unsure which one it was though. Very fair prices, and our dog was so happy we brought him home a bone as well! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything they have to offer.

They also offer some basic Vietnamese items on the menu: bahn mi, pho, com, vermicelli bowls, and even a few breakfast items. We ordered takeout, and our order was ready very quickly (even sooner than expected). The staff were very friendly, and the space was very nicely decorated. If you wanted, this is the kind of space where you could order some coffee (Vietnamese or otherwise) and do some reading. In terms of the food, I was generally impressed. The vegan pho was nicely done, but the broth wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. That's mostly just the challenge of creating a vegan pho broth. The bahn mi was very nicely done, with a crisp and fresh baguette and solid fillings. I think I would order extra pickled veg and extra cilantro next time, but that's a matter of personal preference. We also added some sriracha at home to give the sandwich a boost. The sunny bowl was an interesting concept that was somewhere between brunch and Vietnamese staple. It was good, with very fresh cucumber and nicely pickled carrot and daikon. It wasn't exceptional, but it was good. All told, this was a nice place to visit. I could imagine using it as a coffee shop or as a destination for decent Vietnamese food. Or both. The overall experience was good, and the food was on par with some of the other Vietnamese offerings in the region. Well worth a try, if you happen to be nearby.
