The food here is amazing. I had come previously, I tried the lunch specials this time and COCO & KEVIN was an amazing host . Love how they came every 5 minutes to check up on us ! There was about 3 tables filled when I came so no crowd which I love . Loved the ambiance .

We arrived for dinner around 8 on a Sunday night. I was expecting for a wait only to be seated immediately. Service was friendly and our server was attentive. I ordered a beer and we started with beef bolgogi. SO GOOD! We also ended up ordering the spicy chicken, spicy pork bulgogi, shrimp, and seasoned steak. Our favorite was the spicy pork bolgogi because it was super tender and had delicious flavor. Idk what it was about this grill, but it made all the meat we had taste so flavorful and bbq-y. Ambience: K-pop was blasting in the background and people were having a good time laughing and eating. Dinner was about $35 after tip. This is probably one of my favorite locations compared to others bc they weren't rushing us to finish like other locations do. Will definitely be coming back!

Iron Age is a cool KBBQ spot in the Columbia Heights, offering AYCE meat over a 90-minute period. My friends and I primarily ate the regular and Hawaiian bulgogi, as well as the spicy squid, but there are also several chicken, beef and shrimp options. For the dinner offer, the meal (not including extra add ons and drinks) is a little over $40 per person, after taxes and tip. In addition to the meat options, the servers came often to check if we wanted extra rice, sauces and side vegetables, which are included in the AYCE. Service was great with how often the waiters checked in and solid experience with Kpop music and videos playing in the background.

$29 ayce per person, gratuity included for our 6p group. We liked cooking for ourselves. Our server Luis does good work. Watching Kpop videography while meat cooks is fun. Competitive pricing makes small inconveniences worth it. The single grill table is too small to feed 6 hungry hippos, but is perfectly ok if your appetite is reasonably hungry. Pacing was a little bit slow, but again, that's a 6 people issue. We will gladly adjust for next time (split into 2 groups, ask for next meat to arrive more ahead of time). We liked ordering the Soy Beef Steak and Brisket on repeat and will do that again next time. +++ Soy Marinated Beef Steak ++ Brisket (tad dry) + Montreal Seasoned Beef Steak + Marinated Squid | Plain Shrimp - Plain Top Blade (too dry)

Service: Quick. The hostess greeting me gave a off putting tone when greeting my group. They were explaining the rules of the location but the delivery of her tone made it feel like they were already blaming us for breaking the rules. Service at the table was very quick! We got each item that we requested without any hesitation. Food: (Speed dating version) Beef Brisket - Must get. Cooks fast and great with sauces Hawaiian Beef Bulgogi/ regular beef bulgogi- get one or the other. Only difference in taste is the slice of pineapple in the Hawaiian version. Just ask for pineapple if you want it on the side. Spicy Pork belly- Must have. Great with sauces Iron Age steak- A LOT OF FOOD. came with a group of 4 and came out with 2 steaks. Summary: ask for small portions of all the food you are ordering so you can try it all!! On to my next adventure...

Hands down, the best Korean food I've had in a while! The soy steak was out of this world, and the soy pork was so tender it just melted in my mouth. The atmosphere was really cool too, with the iron age vibes adding to the whole dining experience. Highly recommend!

Although they offered us the elevator, it was located on the opposite side of the restaurant, making it a bit difficult. The portions are quite generous, so if you're not a big eater, you may want to consider sharing a dish. One thing to note is that the restrooms are gender-neutral. While they were very clean, I found this a little inconvenient when visiting with children. If you plan to go on a weekend, expect the restaurant to be lively and a bit noisy. Also, avoid the parking lot next door if possible--it was very chaotic and not worth the hassle. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience with excellent food, great drinks, and friendly service. We arrived at 7:45 on a Saturday night to see if there was room for two or at least room at the bar. I wish the hostess had told us that we could wait at the bar for a table to open up, as we saw that's what many other patrons did, but she told us there was bar seating and high tops and so my husband and I went on up. We easily had our choice of two seats at the bar or a high top, and we selected a high top. After 5 minutes of no one acknowledging us, my husband and I told each other we would wait two more minutes before we would bail. Right as we were about to jump ship, a server came by and asked if we wanted menus. We said sure but it was just strange that no one greeted us, it was just "you want menus?" Lol. Another server brought us menus and asked if we would like water and a breadbasket. We said yes and after about 15 minutes, bread arrived. We chatted with the server about what drinks we should order; I ordered a French 75 and my husband ordered a special Sazerac. We also ordered the tuna carpoacio. After about 10 minutes, the server came back and to confirm if I wanted the soft side cocktail and if my husband wanted an old fashioned. We said we did not and corrected him. Then, a server tried to give our drinks to the table next to us and our server corrected him and brought steak tartare. And then he goes "oh wait, did you order this?" We said no and he asked if we wanted it because if not he had to throw it away lol. And then 5 seconds later, the tuna came. Both the tuna carpaccio and the steak tartare were delicious. But this was the entire evening: we ordered something, something else came. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose, and an espresso martini appeared on the house. We had to ask for our bill twice and when we got our bill, it was definitely someone else's. Finally, as we were preparing to go, the original server comes back and goes "here's your espresso martini." Like bro we asked you originally for the check and we are clearly leaving. Luckily, my husband and I had plenty of time before our show, it was a great atmosphere, and the food was super delicious. It was just such a comically bizarre experience and I feel like they are definitely losing money. I think we paid for half of what we ate and drank and probably ate and drank other people's food! Maybe we will go back? Maybe not lol

That being said, I was curious to see how it stacked against other steakhouse chains - so off we went. Mastro's gives off similar vibes to other steakhouses I've been to - the interior is dark, with over the top finishes and an overall masculine aesthetic. We were seated in the main dining room - it wasn't too large, though I'm not sure if there were other rooms. There were no real surprises on the menu, though I noticed they had a good selection of wagyu cuts from the US, Australia, and Japan. We decided to start with drinks and then some apps - namely, the wagyu roll, house salad, crab cake, and seafood tower. There was no question the seafood tower was the biggest showstopper. We were able to choose which seafood to put on it, and it came adorned with dry ice for that dramatic effect. To top it off, they even flashed strobe lights against it when presenting to make it extra Instagram ready. The seafood itself was delicious, and the other apps were good as well. My only critique of the apps was the house salad - they were too heavy handed with the dressing, it would have been better if it was dressed sparingly. While the wagyu was tempting, I went with the filet for my main. The beef was cooked well (not well done), and topped with an herb compound butter which really added to the meat. We also ordered sides of broccolini, lobster mashed potatoes, and lobster mac and cheese. These were all good, though I don't find the existence of lobster mash necessary; lobster mac and cheese is enough. We finished with dessert - chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate layer cake, their signature butter cake, and cheesecake. Dare I say the chocolate covered strawberries were the best? The chocolate coating was more of a spread so it didn't fall off at first bite, and it came with whipped cream mmm. It might have been because the fruit was a repreive from the relatively heavy meal, but it was a standout for me. Though the butter and chocolate cakes were also delicious I'll call a spade a spade. Service was great - they were very attentive and consistenly made sure we were taken care of. Overall, I wouldn't say Mastro's was the best steakhouse I've been to, but they hold their own. Both were excellent, but the lobster roll was the clear standout and something I would absolutely order again. By the time the entrees arrived, it felt like we had sampled half the menu, but I still made room for the twin lobster tails. They were perfectly cooked, buttery, and worth every bite. To finish the evening, we shared Mastro's famous Butter Cake, which lived up to the hype and was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. The food, service, and atmosphere all made for a memorable team dinner. Mastro's delivered an experience that felt special without being pretentious, and I am already looking forward to my next visit.
