Very attentive servers. Constant returns to fill water glasses throughout meal. Place decorated for Christmas with village scenes by the windows. Food was nicely prepared and everyone was pleased with their choices. One had fish and chips and the fish was flakey and light. Fries were the right crispiness. The steak tidbits were a good size order and well prepared. Finally the chicken cordon bleu was moist with good fries and carrot read more

I've been patronizing Irish Cottage for the past 20+ years. The staff is always attentive and helpful, the food constantly good, and there's always a lively ambiance. It's always decorated festively for the holidays. I'm glad to see this place survive the pandemic and hope it continues to thrive. It's a true neighborhood gem. read more

The environment and ambiance are genuinely welcoming and enjoyable, and the staff is kind and friendly. However, they made a few mistakes with our order. The food quality is not great, around 4/10. This isn't the kind of place you'd choose for a dinner, but mainly because you are watching the game or you are passing by. Overall, it's not the best option. read more

We've been in the neighborhood for over 15 years and have never tried this place. We always wanted to and never got a chance to. So finally today we went out of our way to try the place for lunch. It's very cute inside. When you first walk in, you are met by a bar and off to the side there's a small seating area with booths and tables. The staff pointed us to the seats and said we can sit anywhere. We grabbed a corner table. On the menu were typical pub food. I got the fish and chips, my daughter got the chicken in the basket, and my husband got the chicken pot pie. After getting our drinks we waited a short time for the food to arrive. They had malt vinegar for the fries and fish and chips as well as ketchup. First the fish and chips were well battered but the fish inside tasted like it was frozen. It was flaky and moist but maybe a little too moist. If you leave it too long it gets super soggy. The fries were big and crispy. My daughter's fried chicken was a surprise. The batter was crispy and well seasoned. The chicken itself was piping hot and juicy. It was delicious. My husband's chicken pot pie was in a huge bowl topped with a large round buttery flaky puff pastry. My husband really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and attentive. So after many years we finally got to this little pub and were happy we got a chance to go. read more

I got my first taste of the holidays when I dined at Irish Cottage with the amazing holiday decor. The miniature Christmas village is so festive. The set up indoors almost reminds me of a family dining room with the framed photos and TV on the wall. The Chicken Pot Pie had a buttery top crust and melted in my mouth. The filling wasn't too heavy, but it was savory and filling. It was a bit difficult to get a staff member's attention because they were busy, but the wait for the food or check wasn't long at all. read more

Sat outside and requested a high chair for my toddler. After waiting about 5 minutes I went inside to ask again, even offered to bring it out myself, was told it would be right out. Another 5-10 minutes of sitting there being ignored by servers who walked by, while they were bringing coffee to a man who sat after us. Tried to get their attention, and was ignored. No highchair, no water, so we left. Was really excited to try the Irish fare, but the service ruined it. read more

The service is lovely and the food is more than decent and the prices are right. The cozy bar is always crowded.

Excellent local Irish pub/restaurant right here in the heart of Forest Hills, Queens NYC. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink and bite. Had such a great and fun time sitting at the bar. The music selection was sweet and the atmosphere was such a nice vibe. People were having a great time including myself. The food was delicious. I very much enjoyed a basket of crunchy fried chicken with yummy french fries. And of course the Guinness beer was delicious. The lady bartenders were all sweethearts. Will definitely visit again. read more

Now technically known as The Cottage, this is a close competitor for the best bar in Forest Hills title IMO, just being slightly edged out by previously mentioned Dirty Pierres. This one also has the distinction of being the neighborhoods oldest, its dark wooded barroom dripping with vintage atmosphere and gloriously showing every day of its many years, its seats usually filled by longtime local regulars. Happily, when the longtime matron passed in the dark earliest days of the Covid epidemic, at the moment when Queens was the worlds epicenter of the virus, the longtime manager stepped up and purchased the place, keeping it going and retaining much of the rest of the great longtime staff, heavy on charming Irish natives. The food is much much better than one would expect, so much so that I often order take out, a relative rarity where bar food is concerned. Particularly excellent are both the Shepards and Chicken Pot Pies, the latter crucially served to go with the yummy puff pastry shell separated from the juicy and creamy innards so as to prevent it from being soggy on arrival, a clutch move. read more

I never had an authentic Irish breakfast which needed to change. I headed over to Austin st to the cottage for breakfast and omg the I can't believe how good everything was. I got the breakfast platter which served a variety of different things like eggs sausages black and white pudding which was delicious. I also got a small shepherds pie on the side too and jeez Louis it was hot but you can't experience great foods without some pain XD Also the interior looks so cozy and warm perfect for that cold winter day. read more

Where do I even begin? First, DO NOT GO HERE! This place should be shutdown for health code violations and scamming customers!!! Not only was the food and service terrible but The place is a wannabe Irish pub with owners that aren't even Irish!!!! It's a shame! Place used to be amazing back when the Irish woman owned it but apparently the Mexican chef owns it now and it definitely shows!!! the only Irish female bartender refuses to give good service (her name was Clair) never smiled, charged me for the WRONG drink, forgot to ring in my food, waited 15 minutes for drink, and proceeded to take shots with customers/her friends behind the bar! About 30 minutes later a shorter Latino bartender looked to be 18 years old I think her name was Andy? She came behind the bar and started vaping as well!! Ignored me for another 15 minutes until I had to wave at her! What kind of bar is this? As I waited to get my second drink I noticed a tiny cockroach on the draft line by the Guinness handle...my skin instantly started to crawl! I wanted to leave once I got my food.. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and there was a LONG BLACK HAIR in my food!!! I asked Andy to take it back and I didn't want anything else but the check. They refused to take the black hair chicken quesadilla off my tab! I asked for the manager and they refused to get the manager, so I had no choice but to pay for the food I did not eat. $40 for terrible food, terrible service, and disgusting bar atmosphere. I will never be back! Also - I filed a complaint with the city as the DOH grade posted outside hasn't been updated since 2021!!!!!!! read more

Had just written four star review based o remarkably good pub grub. Went again today - food still very good. Service less than stellar with bartender - I sat at bar for lunch - more interested in her phone than customers. Worse, she had various conversation on the phone while in service. Not her fault, but management engaging in now illegal.practice of adding credit card surcharge onto check. Plus suggested tip amounts are calculated on final tab including tax ... protocol and common sense dictate tip based on food and beverage cost only. read more

I came to the Irish Cottage with my family on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the Spring. We decided to sit outside, which was a great call, as the interior has more of a pub vibe, whereas the outdoor area is more family-friendly. The staff was very attentive and kept popping back outside to check on us and the other patrons dining outside. As for food, I highly recommend the brunch menu, as the brunch comes with Irish soda bread and a drink (coffee, mimosa, etc.). I went with the Irish breakfast, which was quite heavy, but very delicious. My family enjoyed their omlettes and burger. The food was also presented really nicely and all the portions were a decent size. I would certainly come back and maybe even try some of their other Irish-style offerings! read more

Historical Irish pub with original horseshoe-shaped bar. Cozy interior with lots of dark wood. Warm & attentive service. Average food, and great Guinness pours. The customers all seemed thankful & appreciative to have this place around. A shame that almost all of the places like this & Donovan's, etc. that were in in South Brooklyn & Flatbush are gone, but at least this pocket in Queens is alive & well. read more

Unfortunately the new ownership has made this not the place it used to be. I ordered the Irish Breakfast as a British person I was extremely disappointed. No soda bread, no jam and by the time I got the toast my eggs were cold. To boot it was only toasted on one side and there was zero reaction when I very gently complained. I don't think I will be back after 10 years of coming here. read more

Looking for a spot in the area with outdoor seating to accommodate a couple dogs. Found this place just off the main street - small patio and not crowded at all on a Saturday night. Was keeping it light, so ordered a basket of Fries ($8) to share, as well as a Guinness ($8). Guinness is poured well enough, satisfying after letting it settle for a bit. Fries come out shortly after the drinks - super greasy that could not be dabbed off. After having a couple, we didn't really enjoy it and let the waitress know. Was offered another batch, but wasn't feeling it. Bill at the end still included the fries. The menu is fairly extensive, so it's possible some of the other items are better. read more

I really wanted to support this place because we live in the neighborhood, and we have been multiple times over the last couple of years, but this is the 2nd time in a row we've gone for brunch only to experience bad, bordering on combative, service and mediocre food. My boyfriend ordered steak and eggs, medium rare. The steak came out medium well. He sent it back which is a very uncommon thing for him to do. When the server came back she said, "just so you know, that steak was medium rare. Maybe it's the lighting in here, but it was medium rare." Listen. I worked in fine dining for almost 20 years - at steakhouses. That steak was medium well and difficult to cut. He said, that's not what medium rare looks and tastes like. She replied well it was medium rare and I saw blood when I took it down. He asked for them to cook it rare then if that's how to get a bit of red. She was like okay. The entire interaction was shocking in terms of quality of service. To argue with and completely gaslight a guest is crazy. We waited and waited, but soon I was finished with my food (that I of course shared with my boyfriend). We ended up asking for the food to go because he had to go to work. When she brought the check, she did have the manager give us a discount. However, as many of the reviews here have stated, the prices on the bill were higher than listed on the menu ($27.95 instead of $26 for the steak and $24.95 instead of $22 for the eggs benedict). At that point, it wasn't worth arguing about since we just wanted to leave. When I got home and unpacked the food, I saw that we were only given one egg instead of two and we weren't given any breakfast potatoes. Ridiculous. I still left a good tip because, like I said, I was in the service industry for a long time and I can't help myself. The only reason I'm giving two stars here is because the server came outside to give me the beanie I had left on the seat which was very kind and I appreciate. We will not be back which is a huge shame. I recommend that if they're going to have steak on the menu, they train their cooks and servers on what each temp should look at. A brown "medium rare" steak is absurd. I wish I had taken photos to post here. Here's a helpful guide for them: https://www.omahasteaks.com/blog/steak-doneness-guide/ read more

I have stopped in many times over the years to have a pint at the bar but had never tried any of the food. Last night, I was in the mood for the ultimate comfort food type of meal and had been showing a colleague some pictures of my travels on Ireland; I immediately knew I wanted Shepherd's Pie. The pie was delivered rather quickly and was perfectly seasoned and prepared and the meat tender, flavorful, and juicy. The mashed potatoes lightly crisped on top but very fluffy from being whipped. I'm glad I remembered to take a picture because I ate it very quickly lol. read more

So sad Irish Cottage closed. I hope it's only temporary and they're able to rise again after covid because I had such a lovely time here. It's one of the friendlier pubs I've been to in Forest Hills. I was actually going to dinner opposite the pub. I happened to glance across on this side, read Irish and I was sold. Went in, had my Guinness. Left had dinner across the road and came right back because I was ordered to by the friendly patrons here. So many shots courtesy staff and patrons! WooHoo! It seems to be a cheers of the area and I want them to know my name so if they reopen, I'll. Be. Back. The End. read more

Food is good and moderately priced in this small -- authentically cozy -- dining room lined with wood booths. I had already noted dishes I wanted to order on my next visit, when I saw on our check that the price for each item was higher than the prices listed on the menu. !! There was no explanation printed on the bill. When we sat down I had asked the server if there would be a surcharge for paying with a credit card. She said she didn't know -- is that credible for a server??? -- and would check, but never mentioned it again. She said the increased prices on the bill were greater if paying by credit card. BUT, she hadn't asked how we were paying before printing the check, and again, the bill did not state that a surcharge had been added. I said we would be paying in cash and asked for a bill without the surcharges. THIS ONE was marked CASH RECEIPT. So the unsuspecting customer who didn't examine the bill would pay more than expected, without knowing it. The rate of price increase was 3.5%. If restauranteurs want to charge for payment by credit card, they should make that procedure clear on the menu before the order is taken. Otherwise this furtive increase in the bill without explanation or notice to the customer looks like the scam that this cute place is pulling off. read more

Was walking around and hungry and saw this place just off Austin st after checking the menu posted outside went inside and was looking forward to trying it . The prices on the menu they gave me were significantly higher then there menu outside a bait and switch I believe this scam is called . I should have just left but was hungry and thought i would still give it a try as I was now in the mood for this food . Big mistake I should have known better a place that runs a scam like this can't bed doing good food . Probably worst French onion soup I ever had and nothing else got any better . Waitress was polite and nice and apologized about the menu saying the boss said they didn't have a chance to update the outside menu yet . Not buying it and since the food wasn't good I will just say AVOID THIS LOCATION ! read more

Irish Cottage - Menu with non valid prices - Irish Near Me - Forest Hills, New York

Irish Cottage doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is, a 60-year seedy old bar and Irish diner. And the two are mere strips away in the small space off Austin Street. And it does both perfectly well, if that's your thing. It's just not ours. We stopped in for a quick bite. It's basic diner fare with an Irish flair: Shepard's Pie, pot pie , etc. but really it's just a diner more for the locals who are content with such. Not sure why potato skins were on the menu, but we had them. A bit disappointed as hey were dry and overcooked, which screams microwave. I had the burger, which was surprisingly good and cooked perfectly. The hubby had the pot pie. It enjoyed it-ish. The service was excellent. Thank you Sharron. For those who like this fare, it's perfectly good. For us it was average. read more

Always a pleasant experience & we went for our traditional St. Paddy's Day meal; but between the venue not taking reservations, the host being more than 40 minutes off in their ETA after we put our name down for a table, and the kitchen having run out of soup and soda bread before 8pm seems like they were ill prepared for the expected holiday rush. Still, despite a disappointing beer menu, the food was delicious (though cool) and the servers are always apologetic. We made a vow to go back not holiday and give another go! read more

Ate there for brunch on Sunday, Aug 11, 24 Meh food, indifferent service bordering on abysmal, menu prices completely at odds with those advertised on the large price list outside next to the door. I can't think of any reason to go there unless it's pouring rain outside and the Pink Forest across the street is too packed to enter and even then the better choice would be the Austin Pizza place next door to this so-called "Irish Pub". Absolute abomination. We used to love this place in the before times. The food was always fresh and excellent. Now it's horrifying. The fish isn't fresh. It's drenched in oil. The smell is never going away. The old salad must have been doused in terrible dressing -- yesterday. Soggy and foul. Had to remove all the raw peppers and onions and tomatoes from the "Cesar" (sp) salad. Maybe it's s the way a cook named Cesar liked it? We threw everything away and took the garbage out of the house. The oil isn't clean either. Bad. Really bad after taste after one brave bite. So bad. Awesome Irish Bar!!! Finally found a place in Forest Hills that screams "Buffalo, NY!". We walked in the bar in the middle of one of their trivia nights and they allowed us to sneak in for the last round. The bartender was attentive and really made you feel like part of the family.
