I've been patronizing Irish Cottage for the past 20+ years. The staff is always attentive and helpful, the food constantly good, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]there's always a lively ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's always decorated festively for the holidays.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm glad to see this place survive the pandemic and hope it continues to thrive. It's a true neighborhood gem.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment and ambiance are genuinely welcoming and enjoyable, and the staff is kind and friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, they made a few mistakes with our order. The food quality is not great, around 4/10. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This isn't the kind of place you'd choose for a dinner, but mainly because you are watching the game or you are passing by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, it's not the best option.

We've been in the neighborhood for over 15 years and have never tried this place. We always wanted to and never got a chance to. So finally today we went out of our way to try the place for lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very cute inside. When you first walk in, you are met by a bar and off to the side there's a small seating area with booths and tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff pointed us to the seats and said we can sit anywhere. We grabbed a corner table. On the menu were typical pub food. I got the fish and chips, my daughter got the chicken in the basket, and my husband got the chicken pot pie. After getting our drinks we waited a short time for the food to arrive. They had malt vinegar for the fries and fish and chips as well as ketchup. First the fish and chips were well battered but the fish inside tasted like it was frozen. It was flaky and moist but maybe a little too moist. If you leave it too long it gets super soggy. The fries were big and crispy. My daughter's fried chicken was a surprise. The batter was crispy and well seasoned. The chicken itself was piping hot and juicy. It was delicious. My husband's chicken pot pie was in a huge bowl topped with a large round buttery flaky puff pastry. My husband really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and attentive. So after many years we finally got to this little pub and were happy we got a chance to go.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I got my first taste of the holidays when I dined at Irish Cottage with the amazing holiday decor. The miniature Christmas village is so festive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The set up indoors almost reminds me of a family dining room with the framed photos and TV on the wall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Chicken Pot Pie had a buttery top crust and melted in my mouth. The filling wasn't too heavy, but it was savory and filling. It was a bit difficult to get a staff member's attention because they were busy, but the wait for the food or check wasn't long at all.

Burgers are always a hit and done right! Service is friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the decor especially for St. Paddy's Day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Excellent local Irish pub/restaurant right here in the heart of Forest Hills, Queens NYC. I came here on a Saturday afternoon for a quick drink and bite. Had such a great and fun time sitting at the bar. The music selection was sweet and the atmosphere was such a nice vibe. People were having a great time including myself. The food was delicious. I very much enjoyed a basket of crunchy fried chicken with yummy french fries. And of course the Guinness beer was delicious. The lady bartenders were all sweethearts. Will definitely visit again.

I never had an authentic Irish breakfast which needed to change. I headed over to Austin st to the cottage for breakfast and omg the I can't believe how good everything was. I got the breakfast platter which served a variety of different things like eggs sausages black and white pudding which was delicious. I also got a small shepherds pie on the side too and jeez Louis it was hot but you can't experience great foods without some pain XD [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also the interior looks so cozy and warm perfect for that cold winter day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Where do I even begin? First, DO NOT GO HERE! This place should be shutdown for health code violations and scamming customers!!! Not only was the food and service terrible but The place is a wannabe Irish pub with owners that aren't even Irish!!!! It's a shame! Place used to be amazing back when the Irish woman owned it but apparently the Mexican chef owns it now and it definitely shows!!! the only Irish female bartender refuses to give good service (her name was Clair) never smiled, charged me for the WRONG drink, forgot to ring in my food, waited 15 minutes for drink, and proceeded to take shots with customers/her friends behind the bar! About 30 minutes later a shorter Latino bartender looked to be 18 years old I think her name was Andy? She came behind the bar and started vaping as well!! Ignored me for another 15 minutes until I had to wave at her! What kind of bar is this? [[HIGHLIGHT]]As I waited to get my second drink I noticed a tiny cockroach on the draft line by the Guinness handle...my skin instantly started to crawl![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wanted to leave once I got my food.. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and there was a LONG BLACK HAIR in my food!!! I asked Andy to take it back and I didn't want anything else but the check. They refused to take the black hair chicken quesadilla off my tab! I asked for the manager and they refused to get the manager, so I had no choice but to pay for the food I did not eat. $40 for terrible food, terrible service, and disgusting bar atmosphere. I will never be back! Also - I filed a complaint with the city as the DOH grade posted outside hasn't been updated since 2021!!!!!!!

So disappointed with the kitchen service. We were a group of 11; we went in for brunch. We waited over an hour and a half for our food. Most of the group ended up leaving without their food. So disappointing. The bright side the place is beautifully decorated for St Patricks.

I came to the Irish Cottage with my family on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the Spring. We decided to sit outside, which was a great call, as the interior has more of a pub vibe, whereas the outdoor area is more family-friendly. The staff was very attentive and kept popping back outside to check on us and the other patrons dining outside. As for food, I highly recommend the brunch menu, as the brunch comes with Irish soda bread and a drink (coffee, mimosa, etc.). I went with the Irish breakfast, which was quite heavy, but very delicious. My family enjoyed their omlettes and burger. The food was also presented really nicely and all the portions were a decent size. I would certainly come back and maybe even try some of their other Irish-style offerings!

Do they tske reservations for 3?

Whenever I've called for a reservation, I've been assured we would have a table when we arrived. Best to call the the restaurant.

They are still sending out the same amazing classics and have added great specials over the years. The French onion soup is still the most amazing concoction on earth and Cronins could only make it better if they offered it via IV. My mom and I love to share either the turkey or roast beef dinner platters with two soups and still end up with leftovers. The side of turnips is a comfort meal in itself. Potato leek is close second to the french onion. The staff makes the place that much better. The entire place is definitely invested in their patrons and community.. I am a sucker for this famous British/Irish deep fried goodness. Well, I can say without a doubt that this version is excellent (8.5/10) as described. The dish comes with three pieces that are crispy and tender. However, they gotta make a better tartar sauce than the ones they served in packets. Also, we switched out chips for onion rings. They were fantastic! I also really enjoyed their French Onion Soup (8/10) and the Shepherds Pie (7.5/10). The soup was flavorful without being too salty like most restaurants, while the pie had relatively fluffy mash potato with tasty ground beef mixture. The only item that was a slight letdown was the Chicken Pot Pie (6/10). The puff pastry was decent and so was the cream sauce. The problem was the overcooked and dry chicken breast meat. Our server was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. Btw, even though the space was basically a dive bar, the energetic 60's and 70's music was definitely a plus. Therefore, I gave it a slightly higher score for decor. All in all, this was a great experience.

The gorgeous, ancient building, Fillmores for close to 50 years now but home to a bar for many years prior to that, is perennially packed with a cross section of local regulars representing many eras of the neighborhoods varied history and populations, from old school working class joes in Union Jackets and hardhats to more recent immigrants from every corner of the world befitting it's location smack in the center of the worlds borough. They're all most definitely having a great time, soaking up the fantastic atmosphere and character and being served by seasoned pros with a level of old school care and camaraderie, and focus on loyalty to the regulars that is also sadly rapidly fading away (how many other places in this town still know the meaning of the words "buy back?") Where the place really sets itself apart from all the other local watering holes however charming they might be on their own right however, is the food. Its lives up to the original designation of a tavern as a place that places a priority on the cuisine, and indeed the offerings rise far far above the bar-food norm. This is the type of spot that not only serves one of the great, deeply satisfying under-the radar burgers, non nonsense but deeply meaty uniquely presented on a long hero-type roll, but also one of the best, and cheapest NY Strips in town and a killer prime rib special. Also has some of the most reliably crispy wings, even if the propriety house sauce is just a tad sweet for my tastes, and a rotating list of delicious house made soups (particularly a marvelous lobster bisque) that can be paired with said wings or most other options as part of the wonderful lunch specials. I've heard many other patrons praise the grilled chicken wrap but have never had the chance to give it a try as of yet. I'll have many more chances because I plan on continuing to visit the place often for years to come, and here's to hoping that this place remains a constant in the ever changing borough as it's miraculously been able to all these many many years.

I'd seen it on Yelp for quite a while, and the food in the photos looked really promising. Unfortunately, when we pulled up and saw the location, I had a feeling it wasn't going to live up to my expectations. I was hungry enough that I decided to give it a chance anyway. If you're coming strictly for the food, I'd probably skip it. But if you're looking for a casual spot to relax with a beer and grab a bite, it does the job. Although the meal wasn't what I had hoped for, I do think the kitchen made the best of the ingredients they had. My husband ordered the steak sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised by how tender the meat was, even though it clearly wasn't an expensive cut. I ordered the French onion soup, which lacked depth of flavor, had very few onions, and the bread was really soggy. My Caesar salad, on the other hand, was dressed and tossed perfectly, but the dressing tasted like it came straight from a bottle. If they made their own dressing, or even used a higher-quality one, it could have been an excellent salad. Our server was friendly and attentive, though she didn't seem very familiar with food terminology. I asked whether the onion rings were made fresh or frozen, and she replied, "They always taste fresh when I've had them." That pretty much answered my question, I'm guessing they were frozen. Overall, it wasn't a satisfying meal for me. Then again, I came for the food. If your goal is simply to unwind with a drink and some casual bar food, you'll probably have a much better experience than I did.
