The fries were big and crispy. My daughter's fried chicken was a surprise. The batter was crispy and well seasoned. The chicken itself was piping hot and juicy. It was delicious. Now technically known as The Cottage, this is a close competitor for the best bar in Forest Hills title IMO, just being slightly edged out by previously mentioned Dirty Pierres. We decided to sit outside, which was a great call, as the interior has more of a pub vibe, whereas the outdoor area is more family-friendly. The staff was very attentive and kept popping back outside to check on us and the other patrons dining outside. As for food, I highly recommend the brunch menu, as the brunch comes with Irish soda bread and a drink (coffee, mimosa, etc.). I went with the Irish breakfast, which was quite heavy, but very delicious. My family enjoyed their omlettes and burger. Looking for a spot in the area with outdoor seating to accommodate a couple dogs. Found this place just off the main street - small patio and not crowded at all on a Saturday night. Was keeping it light, so ordered a basket of Fries ($8) to share, as well as a Guinness ($8). Guinness is poured well enough, satisfying after letting it settle for a bit. Fries come out shortly after the drinks - super greasy that could not be dabbed off. After having a couple, we didn't really enjoy it and let the waitress know. Was offered another batch, but wasn't feeling it. Bill at the end still included the fries. The menu is fairly extensive, so it's possible some of the other items are better. read more

I really wanted to support this place because we live in the neighborhood, and we have been multiple times over the last couple of years, but this is the 2nd time in a row we've gone for brunch only to experience bad, bordering on combative, service and mediocre food. My boyfriend ordered steak and eggs, medium rare. The steak came out medium well. He sent it back which is a very uncommon thing for him to do. When the server came back she said, "just so you know, that steak was medium rare. Maybe it's the lighting in here, but it was medium rare." Listen. I worked in fine dining for almost 20 years - at steakhouses. That steak was medium well and difficult to cut. He said, that's not what medium rare looks and tastes like. She replied well it was medium rare and I saw blood when I took it down. He asked for them to cook it rare then if that's how to get a bit of red. She was like okay. The entire interaction was shocking in terms of quality of service. To argue with and completely gaslight a guest is crazy. We waited and waited, but soon I was finished with my food (that I of course shared with my boyfriend). We ended up asking for the food to go because he had to go to work. When she brought the check, she did have the manager give us a discount. However, as many of the reviews here have stated, the prices on the bill were higher than listed on the menu ($27.95 instead of $26 for the steak and $24.95 instead of $22 for the eggs benedict). At that point, it wasn't worth arguing about since we just wanted to leave. When I got home and unpacked the food, I saw that we were only given one egg instead of two and we weren't given any breakfast potatoes. Ridiculous. I still left a good tip because, like I said, I was in the service industry for a long time and I can't help myself. The only reason I'm giving two stars here is because the server came outside to give me the beanie I had left on the seat which was very kind and I appreciate. We will not be back which is a huge shame. I recommend that if they're going to have steak on the menu, they train their cooks and servers on what each temp should look at. Last night, I was in the mood for the ultimate comfort food type of meal and had been showing a colleague some pictures of my travels on Ireland; I immediately knew I wanted Shepherd's Pie. The pie was delivered rather quickly and was perfectly seasoned and prepared and the meat tender, flavorful, and juicy. The mashed potatoes lightly crisped on top but very fluffy from being whipped. BUT, she hadn't asked how we were paying before printing the check, and again, the bill did not state that a surcharge had been added. I said we would be paying in cash and asked for a bill without the surcharges. THIS ONE was marked CASH RECEIPT. So the unsuspecting customer who didn't examine the bill would pay more than expected, without knowing it. The rate of price increase was 3.5%. If restauranteurs want to charge for payment by credit card, they should make that procedure clear on the menu before the order is taken. Otherwise this furtive increase in the bill without explanation or notice to the customer looks like the scam that this cute place is pulling off. read more

Absolute abomination. We used to love this place in the before times. The food was always fresh and excellent. Now it's horrifying. The fish isn't fresh. It's drenched in oil. The smell is never going away. The old salad must have been doused in terrible dressing -- yesterday. Soggy and foul. Had to remove all the raw peppers and onions and tomatoes from the "Cesar" (sp) salad. Maybe it's s the way a cook named Cesar liked it? Awesome Irish Bar!!! Finally found a place in Forest Hills that screams "Buffalo, NY!". We walked in the bar in the middle of one of their trivia nights and they allowed us to sneak in for the last round. The bartender was attentive and really made you feel like part of the family. My only complaint was when we ordered Irish car bombs, they only give you half of a Guinness. I get it, it's less messy but atleast give me the other half in the can!
