Great local neighborhood bar. There's a lot of space inside but it can still get crowded in the bar area. The drink prices are very reasonable and they have a good liquor selection variety. For Halloween they were fully decorated inside and the staff wore costumes. Nice touch! Occasional live music (including on Halloween). read more

Never had a bad time here. It's a solid Irish bar with your classic extra large wooden bar, plus a few tables in back and games like darts. No food at this place, but you can bring in whatever you want, and they have snacks for purchase if you just want a little something to snack on. The bartenders here are always friendly and prompt. Prices are on par with what you can expect in the neighborhood. I came here for trivia on Halloween, and it was one of the most fun trivia nights I've been to in Astoria. You have to pay to play ($10 per team), but it keeps things interesting that you could win actual money if you're smarter than everyone in the room. The night I was there I believe the pot was just under $200. The team that comes in second to last gets free shots, which my team won! Weird to say this but this is probably one of the best bars to come drink alone at. You won't be really alone. read more

Last nite was great drinks and the people was bartenders was on point . This past year was my first year coming alote . 5 stars

Always enjoys drinks here, great bartenders and great crowds. Doesn't matter weekday or weekend, always go to place . Gem of Astoria

Great vibes. New York sports galore and great drink specials. Trivia night was a blast.

This bar is seriously my favorite pub. The bar tenders are responsive and conversational amd with most bartenders there are generous buy-backs. The patrons are kind, fun and conversational. I drink a bit, and am loyal to the place where shane McGowan was a regular in recent times past. Ask for aron, eric, or robbie and these blokes will treat you right. read more

My buddy moved to Astoria recently, and I have been here a handful of times. Great neighborhood Irish pub. Very solid selection of beer on tap. If I had one complaint - it would be no food. They do however allow you to order in, or bring in your own food. read more

Nice big space for hanging out with a pretty good beer selection and buy backs on drinks. I came in to watch a game and found the TVs in the front to be awkwardly placed though. Next time I go, it will just be for hanging out rather than watching the game. read more

It's 2 am , Sunday, June 25th . I have been This place many many times. The woman bartending tonight shouldn't have this job. She has the worst attitude and zero customer service. She's the worst bartender ever. I'm in hospitality business and this has been the worst bartender ever if we can call her a bartender. I will never go back because of her. read more

Irish Rover is a cool place. Was my 1st time last night. The bartenders were pretty cool..Erin ( bartender ) is a cool mate. Decent tab. Good place to catch a game. read more

All day, every day. Keep that Guinness on pour and the darts sharp. Erin go braugh! What more could I say? Good spot for friends, beers and shenanigans. read more

Pleasantly surprised with the Irish Rover. I've passed this place a bunch of times and it always struck me as a dive to not go into. I think my buddy told me that this was like the first place he ever had a drink when he was way younger. But same person I was cat sitting at him and his wife's place down the block the other weekend. I wanted to watch the Lions on Sunday. Usually this becomes a huge ordeal for me in New York. I thought about the Local because I like their beer menu but I don't think they have too many tvs. Decided to give this a shot. Asked the bartender that was Irish if he could turn on the game and he asked which tv! Oh happy day. Typically the reaction I get is either 'get out of my bar'. Or if it's a female she will scrunch up her face and ask who the Lions are and 'ohhhh . . . . good heavens no we can't do that'. They have a bunch of tvs though and are pretty great with distributing whatever and saving the big screen for your precious giants or jets. Beers were cheap-ish and around $4-5. A few craft beers in addition to your typical finds. Everyone here was super friendly and laid back enough that random strangers would share your table with you. It was never at any point too crowded which is a miracle and godsend. You can also bring in outside food since they don't have a kitchen. read more

Cool irish pub with strong drinks and reasonable prices. Space is large.so bring your friends. If i lived closer this would be my local watering hole. Also ask for some of their free irish chips! Yummy! read more

The BEST bar, PERIOD. Maria, our bartender, was amazing, attentive, and fun. I went there with a character of a coworker (who looks and acts exactly like Samuel L. Jackson). He had never had a Guinness in his life. Needlesstosay, we had 18 pints of Guinness that afternoon. I felt bad for him, every pint of Guinness from here on out would be a letdown because this is as good as it gets. We would be around halfway done with our current pint when she would start pouring our next one. No one in the entire bar was ever waiting on a drink. Samuel started ragging on Maria about her "watered-down drinks." Baaaaad move for our livers and overall well-being. This provoked her to give us 3 free rounds of Jamison shots, claiming, "if you don't leave here drunk, I'm not doing my job," in a cute Irish accent. Ugh, I fell in love with another foreign bartender. Cheap, cheap, cheap. I highly recommend ordering out to Rizzo's pizza, which was an perfect complement to the drinks. This is the kind of place I would travel well out of my way for. Heck, I would make all my friends hike here too. This is the kind of place that makes me consider living in this neighborhood. Confirmed- it really is that good. read more

Maybe I just had a particularly bad experience but... I shan't be coming back. The beer selection is entirely negligent, the guy who was their bartender-announced regular spent my entire time there drunkenly "conversing" with my 3 female friends and I (and by "conversing" I mean drunkenly spitting and mumbling in our faces, and touching us in ways we'd not granted permission to, and repeatedly asking why if we were single, etc.). I was even told by multiple patrons (who are regulars themselves) that this guy is there most nights in that condition, and they are humored by it. Again, maybe I chose a bad night, but I felt pretty uncomfortable the whole time. I didn't appreciate the vibe of the place even with this guy out of the equation. It's a place to go if you want to drink standard pilsner and watch a football game. If you want to have good beer with friends, good conversation, and not be hit on by self-entitled strangers, try another spot. read more

I have nothing clever to say about this sweet little bar.* Just go. Please. Drink your heart out. Play darts. Put another dime in the jukebox, baby. *Like I ever do. read more

Love, love, love The Irish Rover for it's laid back environment, great prices and always friendly staff. They always remember to give you your 3rd free even if you don't. For $20 I can get a great buzz AND still have money left over for the Taco Truck. Life is good! read more

Friendly bartenders, buybacks on every 3rd drink, free darts, lots of TVs, touchscreen games... Love it! They also let you bring in food (Irish Rover does not serve any food). read more

Fantastic! We were just here and I have to say...this now is on my list as well. We stumbled into this place by "Luck" My friend J parked his car around my house ( which is about 10 blocks away)..and we both had some time to kill between. We wanted to have a couple of beer and couldn't find convenient parking spots for other bar we go to. ....so ..we .simply went to the bar that is closest from where we park. . As I always say..it is the "BARTENDER" who makes all the differences in the world for bar.......and Mike is just that bartender. I had my usual Guinness .....and had to order "whatever shot you make" from him....... ...and ta da.... Mike made perfect drinks...for both of us. We luuuuuuuuuuufffed it ! If we didn't have to leave for our next engagement....we would have stayed there for the rest of night for sure. We will definitely be back....! Again...friendly bartender ..is just priceless...! read more

best...bar...ever....everrr Mike is the greatest bartender in the history of bartending. Upon first glance you're probably wondering why so many people love this place. Maybe it's the darts. Maybe it's the buy backs/free shots. Maybe it's the jukebox. Or maybe I'm still recovering from my hangover after a weekend of Irish. It's just great local bar. I wouldn't travel hundreds of miles to come here, but if you live in the area...check it out. read more

Cheap drinks, 3rd round buybacks, chill crowd, and friendly bartenders who remember your drink order even on a packed Saturday night = one of my favorite places to go out in Astoria. I prefer a good, small Irish pub over a trendy, hip, overpriced place any day. The only thing keeping me from it 5 stars is how crowded it's become. When I first started coming in last summer, it was super busy Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, as expected, but now it's packed every night after about 9 or 10. I'm an 80 year-old man and would like to actually sit down and have a conversation over drinks, but it's gotten very loud and crowded here. Still, I come in whenever it's not too busy because I love the atmosphere so much! P.S. They accept credit cards, but there's a $15 minimum. So if you're using a card, prepare to get sloshed, because that's four drinks. read more

This is my current favorite bar and obsession. Every third drink free? Good music? Affordable? Nice, old-school bartenders? This place makes me want to move to Astoria. I'd be the Norm to the Rover's Cheers. read more

For some reason, I keep reading this place as Irish Rogue. Why? I don't have a clue. But that's not important. What is important is that this is a good, solid bar. Although the Guinness I tasted couldn't match the ones from my favorite neighborhood joint, the cleanliness, efficiency, and warm atmosphere of the bartenders made this place a good find. The drinks weren't expensive (avg. $5/beer) and they made decent cocktails too. For a Thursday evening, it wasn't very busy which was good because we were able to play a few rounds of darts and Buck Hunter (both of which I am awful at). So bottom line...if you're in the area, this is a good drinking joint. Especially if you live nearby because this was good find. read more

INT - IRISH ROVER - DAY In a dimly lit bar, BARTENDER slowly walks over to PAUL D and GIAC K. He looks like he has some bad news. Bartender: Guys, I've got some bad news... Paul and Giac look at each other, then at the bartender, readying themselves for the worst. Paul: Yeah? Bartender: The...third drink is on the house. I've long professed a love for "Old Man Bars," or bars that resemble Moe's Tavern, yet have rarely encountered any, or encountered any where I didn't have a legitimate chance of getting the old fork in the eye. Irish Rover is a simple, no-bullshit bar that's made for casual hangout, casual drinking, casual sports watching, and casual drinking alone--George Thoroghgood style. This is the perfect place for the friends who you're able to enjoy some (relative) silence with. read more

Something magical is happening here. It's your every day bar, but for some reason it's so much better. It's affordable, the bartenders are terrific, and the crowd is lively, without being too crowdy (you know what I mean). It's just fun. Plain and simple. (Don't be a dummy and order anything crazy here - beer and straightforward mixed drinks are what they do best). read more

Well I couldn't believe my luck when I moved to Astoria. This place is around 1 block from my apartment and is everything an Irish pub should be. Bartenders are friendly (and actually Irish), buy backs on the 3rd drink, plenty TVs and a decent jukebox. They always seems to have the temperature just right as well. I'm Scottish so was delighted to see a good selection of whiskys and well as beer on tap. Everyone is friendly and they show the soccer on weekends as well as baseball, football etc! Top place for a neighborhood bar! read more

Honestly, I'm not over impressed by this place: sure, it's nice and all, clean, whatever. Not filled with douches like a lot of bars are, so that's nice. But I go to a bar to drink, and I'm not overly impressed with their selection of drinks. Admittedly, I didn't take inventory of their liquors, but I only saw 2-3 of each kind of liquor, and maybe 5-7 standard beers on tap--maybe more, I don't remember. But, it does have some nice things going for it: its got a fairly relaxing atmosphere, a TV or two, clean bathrooms, blah blah blah. But then you meet and talk to the bartenders, and you're like "oh hell to the yeah!" Then you get your third drink on the house and you're like "oh fuck yes!!" Then you're walking out with a buzz and a small bar bill and you're like "I'm getting my ass back here more often." Definitely a case of people over pints here, and sometimes, particularly in a bar with no gimmick, that's exactly what you need. read more

Really solid bar with a super-friendly server from the old sod and tasty beers. We visited on a weekday afternoon for a brief respite and the only drinkers were neighborhood regulars, but I imagine the places amps up at night and on the weekend. Real deal Irish/grizzled man pub. read more

Great neighborhood bar. Love this place. The bartenders are always fun and they're pretty funny also. One of the few bars that give buybacks. I never say no when someone asks me to join then at the Rover. The place is small inside, has a dart board and few televisions along with a projector screen that usually shows the hot sporting event for the night. I come here for the atmosphere and the Bartenders really are the best. I can't remember their names but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. It's a local bar and the drinks are cheap. One bartender in particular always stands out. He's tall and slim. That's all I can remember but he's an awesome guy. read more

This is your typical go to bar to watch a game or drink some beers with friends. I went with my sisters and sat at the bar, the bartender was really nice & helpful ( i think his name was Mike). Great bar with a very casual and friendly atmosphere. Pros: Clean, free darts (long line though), cheap drinks, nice bartenders, not too crowded, juke box. Cons: None Definitely recommended. read more

Irish Rover is a pretty chill irish pub. Dart boards, several tvs tuned to sports. Its a little loud (suck it up, its a pub) and there is no food served here (grab some cart or tacos a few blocks down). The crowd was actually rather diverse. I feel like the youngsters moving into astoria now know of the place but people across all age groups were having a good time and intermingling. But it is still a pretty nice place. They have a pretty great buy back policy (if you know about the policy), but 2 get the 3rd free. For $6 for a black and tan (mixed by the bartender) I'm pretty happy about the pricing. So come, grab your drinks in threes and have a nice brew while watching the knicks, nets and mets suck. read more

Best Irish Pub ever. The prices are cheap, the bartender is great and the crowd is very diverse, all age groups and friendly. I love coming in on a Saturday night and listening to live music while sipping a pint of Guinness! And ladies, clean bathroom! read more

I'm not a regular here by any means but I hit it a few times a year. It's a good Irish bar that's no frills and makes no apologies. The bartenders, once you get to know them a bit, are friendly and always have some good conversation there. Drinks are basic and good and reasonably priced. They'll buy you back too which is nice since that seems to be an unheard of practice in Manhattan. They play lots of sports here that you may not get in other bars like soccer, rugby, and hurling. If you like this stuff you will like this bar. I've never seen any trouble in there and the crowd is pretty even keel. This is not by any means a scene of "the beautiful people" you may find in other bars however you are not there for that and you certainly aren't paying for it. Come in, sit down, have a few drinks and shake your tough day off here. read more

I was visiting some friends in New York who wanted to hit up the Astoria Skate Park over the weekend. Not being much of a skater myself I decided to wander the neighborhood and see if I could find a bar to catch some football. The Irish Rover was highly recommended on Yelp!, and I can see why. It had a bunch of TVs for watching sports, a good selection of beer and liquor, and what seemed to be a dedicated group of neighborhood folks hanging out watching the Jets (among others). It definitely seems like it's got a comfortable - even cozy - neighborhood vibe. A little small compared to a normal suburban sports bar, but about the same size or even larger than hipster bars in Manhattan or Williamsburg. I only had one beer and then left, so I'm not sure about the availability or quality of any food. While I'm not sure if I'll ever find myself in Astoria again, I know if I do at least there's a good place for me to go watch sporting events. (oh yeah, and Yankees Suck!) read more

This is a great little neighborhood bar just around the corner from my buddy's new place. I'm proud of myself for being the first one to spot it while helping him move. The inexpensive drinks were a welcome relief to the mortgage payments I was dropping in Manhattan. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. It also happens to be in one of the coolest neighborhoods I've been to. read more

The only downside of this bar is it's distance from the subway. It's easy to get to by bus by the Q18 but a little bit of a hike or very one else. The Sam Adams summer was bad, probably because it's close to Oktoberfest season, I won't fault them for that. The ATM has a $3 surcharge and try dot accept Amex. They have a lot of huge TVs and an AMI jukebox. The bathrooms are clean and they have a dart board. read more

Best place to grab a drink in Astoria! We stumbled on is place while on vacation last year and knew we had to make a return trip. What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said.
