I'll start by saying don't come here for the coffee. It's fine but it's just basic coffee. It's not a specialty coffee shop. But the coffee will do fine if you just want a pick me up. Come here for the food. This Shepherd's Pie is what's worth the trip. The meat had a real hearty kick to it. Perfect with a little HP sauce. Years ago this establishment was owned by an Irish immigrant family and when they retired they sold it to another family - non Irish. But that does not mean that this place isn't still really really good. The owners were trained in all things Irish by the original family. The Irish food is authentic and I can say that because I've been to Ireland. Also, listen around to hear the Irish brogues of people who were born in Ireland and now reside in this part of the county.They wouldn't be eating here if it wasn't good. I've been here many many times so I truly have no idea why the previous reviewer is saying that this place is not authentic. The scones are as great as the ones my native Irish grandmother made and I regularly make a trip down here, approximately 25 minutes from my home just to get the scones. I've had the Irish breakfast many times and enjoyed it. The coffee is really good here. As far as ambience goes, well you're not going to find a lot of that here but the place is clean and the tables are set with everything you need. And the service is great. One of my favorite parts is the grocery section where you can get authentic Irish items. This was the first place in the county I could get that truly great Kerrygold Butter which is better than any American Butter by far. Now the supermarkets have gotten smart and have started stocking but for years the only place you could get it was here. Today's stop was for Irish mustard w whisky, scones and butter. My honey marveled over the amount of authentic Irish items on the shelf here in the grocery area. Worth a try! read more

The Irish Shame. I read and read the reviews and I simply don't get it.... Maybe they sold the place to some else recently or something because I did not experience any of the things in the reviews but the disappointment describe in only one of them. Has nothing Irish but some package good and some little square cakes that say St Patrick's on them... Other than that, my redish beard has more Irish than this. The fries are bland and super soggy, the fish is store bought and is not even the good kind. They are also listed as a coffee place.... My god, horrible coffee Ugh!! Sometimes Yelpers make me wonder. I thought I would walk in and find a gem here, some Guinness battered fish&Chips, but instead I got plate filled with horrid food.. I gave tow stars instead of minus five, because of the service... VERY CLEAN. 2 of us ordered big Irish breakfast, 1 ordered Ulster, and 1 ordered eggs/Irish patty/home fries/etc. We requested BROWN BREAD as our toast (must request). Coffee. Ordered brown bread to take home. 4 thick slices = $2.00. Every morsel was enjoyable. WILL DEFINITLY BE BACK. A year ago, it was below par, but U sure have come a long way, FOOD, CLEANLINES, SERVICE. My first taste of home since arriving in Philly and I really enjoyed it. Had the half Irish breakfast with proper brown bread and a big pot of tea; delicious. The cafe even stocks some great Irish products like beans, peas, biscuits, ketchup, tea bags etc They also have frozen rashers and sausages that you can buy and bring home for your own freezer. Service was great, by a lovely Irish girl called Lesley. She could have done with some help but it didn't matter to us, we weren't in a rush and she was extremely nice. The Irish Coffee shop doesn't look too appealing from the outside but once inside, it is truly a joy. The service is great and friendly and FAST. The food is extremely good for breakfast food and the prices are definitely reasonable. While you are there, you can stock up on all your favorite groceries direct from Ireland. This place is one of Delco's best-kept secrets! The Irish breakfast and lunch options are all awesome and very authentic. This is also one of the few places you around that you can get Irish bacon and have it cooked right. Like others said, it is run by a Mexican family (as is the Hibernian Coffee House, in Drexel Hill), but I heard that they learned right from the Irish couple who owned it previously. The food all tastes very much like the breakfasts I had in Ireland when I was visiting and when I did my study abroad there. I brought some of my Irish friends here when they were visiting, and they liked it very much. If you're looking for great decor, go elsewhere. But if you want good food and the possibility of overhearing people with Irish accents speaking (because a lot of the local Irish do come here), then this is the place. Also, seriously reasonably priced. But the restaurant part is just half the experience. They have shelves and shelves of Irish/UK goodies you just can't find anywhere else. Like real Cadbury bars. I will not be returning to the Irish Coffee Shop after what happened to me today. The food is good, but the waitress gave me a bottle of Ketchup that exploded all over me after I opened it. Some went into my eye and it burned. My co worker who was with me said "Oh you'll be alright" but it continued to burn. He said the restroom was in the back. The waitress said nothing. He had to ask her to help clean up the mess on the table and the seat. Luckily after I went to the restroom to clean up, my eye stopped hurting. I had lots of ketchup all over me. No one helped me. I had to wet paper towels and spend most of my lunch time cleaning up. No one apologized till I went up to pay for the lunch. She said " Oh sorry about the ketchup bottle." This was my first time to the irish coffee shop. And I'm planning to go back with my husband ASAP. I got the "small" irish breakfast plate. It was HUGE and everything was sooo good. There were beans, potatoes, eggs, bacon, sausage and pudding...white and black. And we got a pot of tea with breakfast was was also HUGE. Yum. Yum. Yum. Irish breakfast served by a very nice Mexican family in our 'globalized' world. The food stocks and menu offerings are as authentic as you would see in my family's home county of Cavan. The family that runs the shop does a great job preparing traditional Irish platters and also throws in the occasional Mexican treat. This place is the real deal. Don't expect ambiance and frills because you won't get that. What you will get is a really great Irish breakfast with all of the fixin's and some fast and friendly service. You will also get a selection of imported groceries to have some tasty treats to go until next visit. Way better then we were expecting. Disappointed that they did not have any type of irish coffee but the waitress was nice with her Irish accent. Hot chocolate was straight swiss miss I watched the waitress make it. We both got the big breakfast because we were too chicken to try the irish breakfast. For being a whole in the wall it was pretty good. Pancakes were nothing special, my scrambled eggs were nice and fluffy. My boyfriends eggs he got over easy and he said they were oily. They also only have one container of syrup for the restaurant. Potatoes were awesome I don't know what was on them lol. Ah, the Irish Coffee Shop. We go wayyy back. My dad took me here as I child and my friends from Irish Step Dancing knew it was the best place to stock up on Irish candies from the motherland. It's right across from the Irish Immigration office, which I'm sure isn't a coincidence. I've been coming to the place for as long as I can remember and the only thing that's changed is the staff. It used to be run by 100% Irish immigrants. Nowadays, Mexican men work in the kitchen and your waitress will more likely be a high school student. There are some authentic Irish lasses who work there, but not like it used to be. Despite this, I still give it a 5 star review for their stock of Irish food, candy, papers and gossip. It is THE PLACE to go for an authentic Irish breakfast (which is HUGE- I can only handle the half serving size) of Blood pudding, eggs, bacon, toast, roasted tomato and beans. The patrons there tend to be Irish immigrants in the construction or painting business, Irish families and neighbors from the area. I'm very Irish (black Irish with dark hair, pale skin and blue eyes) and have- on a few occasions- been proposed to by the guys in the shop. I good-naturedly declined the offer but it way be a good way to meet guys if that's your thing. Parking is free in the lot behind the store. I am British,..... myself along with four of my Brit lady friends were recommended to try this place to purchase some of our British Goodies. This was the sole purpose of our recent visit and we were not disappointed. We found their selection of items for sale surprisingly good, and we raided their freezer which was well stocked and full of link sausages, Scotch pies, potato scones, black pudding, Irish bread, Irish bacon (delicious) sausage rolls and Cornish pasties etc.....sadly no square sliced (Lorn) sausage was to be found. We were very pleased with everything and will be back to re-stock as and when needed. Definitely the real deal here regarding grocery and freezer items. The young lady who served us all was very obliging, and not at all intimidated by our sudden entrance into the shop area. LOL...... read more

Our family went here this morning for the full breakfast. Everything was perfect: rasher, eggs, bangers, blood and white puddings, eggs, baked beans, home fries, fried tomato wedges, and some of the best brown bread that we've had in ages. I even brought a loaf of it to take home and put in my freezer. I also recommend the pot of tea, which is strong and tastes like real tea, not the watery stuff that you usually get in American restaurants. The waitress was friendly, as well, which helped to make it an especially nice visit. When I requested some malt vinegar to go on my home fries, she brought it quickly and with a smile.
