During Black Friday this bakery did a promotion where if you came in with a receipt from a small business in Lansdowne you could get a free cupcake, and that was my first interaction with Kia's. I did get a cupcake. It was very good. But I was also very impressed by what I saw. I learned about Kia's after I began following their social media page for their beautiful cakes and cup cakes! I finally had an opportunity to visit out with friends for my bday and it was such a pleasant surprise!!! I didn't expect a bakery that I could actually sit down and enjoy the ambience but they had it!!! It's very cute inside, tables chairs, stringed lights, an area of board games, a display of sweet treats and the glorious smell of things baking in the background!!! I love going there!! I've been visited many times to sit and sip with colleagues, friends and church family. It's a very inviting environment and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Best bakery in ALL of Delco, hands down! Everything they make is delectable from the coffee to the cookies to the muffins. The vanilla bean cake/cupcakes are my absolute favorite & are a staple in my kitchen (I usually buy a whole cake, slice it & freeze, although they do offer single slices of this & other flavors). I had cupcakes from this bakery at a party and was lucky enough to take some extras home. I am a baker and am very critical of baked good. mediocre baked goods just aren't worth the calories and extra time at the gym. Please understand this bakery is top tier. The quality and flavors are outstanding. It is immediately apparent that these are very talented bakers who do NOT cut corners or skimp on quality ingredients. their flavor parings are so well done. I don't live in the area and feel lucky to have been introduced to this bakery via an event. My friend who threw the party said the bakery was wonderful to work with and very amenable to changes. Are they more expensive than the supermarket? yes, and for good reason. There are other bakeries who charge similar prices whose quality is just no where near Kia's. In addition to cakes, this bakery also offers cupcakes, cookies, muffins, pies, brownies and cheesecakes - the offerings come standard but there are also vegan options... I made my way to this bakery in need of cupcakes to celebrate a friend's bday; I purchased 6 and when I saw mini cheesecake I couldn't resist - I purchased a salted caramel pecan and an Oreo... The cupcakes were just OK for me but the mini cheesecakes were absolutely amazing. On this visit I purchased a mini sweet potato cheesecake, a mini strawberry cheesecake and a salted caramel pecan cheesecake; the strawberry and salted caramel cheesecake were exceptional, the sweet potato was good. I did purchase a plain cheesecake also but I didn't taste it so I can't rate it. It pains me to write this review especially after so many positive reviews. Because another Lansdowne Cafe has an extremely rude owner and I like to keep things local I made a special point to patronize Kia's. Well so I thought! The night before I plotted my day with anticipation and the willingness to wait until 10:00am to eat breakfast. Although I wake up on weekends at 6:30am for the community support I waited. To make sure I didn't arrive too early I went to Dollar Tree first, I arrived at Kia's 11:20am. Queue up the dramatic music.... Server/Cashier: 'You should always call in advance we usually sell breakfast but not today our dining area isn't open. That person is not here right now they may be in later.' Me: 'No I shouldn't call in advance you should always be prepared to sell what you have advertised..' Sorry I had to say it but I don't have to call anywhere that advertised themselves as a restaurant or cafe etc., well until now I guess! Is the part of the Government shutdown and the cook was furloughed? This is why some businesses in the community don't last, don't make it or have caused themselves to have a bad reputation. However I do understand part of a review should be based on the business main focus which is the bakery (Kia's Cakes) in this case. Kia has brought warmth, happiness and full bellies to this little part of downtown Lansdowne with her cakes, cookies, coffees and hmmmmm those cupcakes!!! Her cake/coffee house is frequented by neighbors, nearby workers, gamers on some nights and me who occasionally takes the 25 minute drive to imbibe in her cupcakes. Why do I take the drive? Because I'm sick of $5 and $6 cupcakes elsewhere. The other day I got one beautiful cupcake, one piece of poundcake drizzled with icing and a cup of coffee for $7.95. Last week it was 2 cupcakes and coffee for the same. And Kia herself is personable and likable. Comfortable tables and chairs, banquetted walls to lean back on and pretty overhead lighting all make this a place to chill with some good beverages and desserts. There is a catering company within that although I've never tried, provides breakfast/brunch items that look diverse and reasonably priced if you'd like to grab a bite here. Sitting at a traffic light and saw Kia's out the side of my eye so we turned around to give it a try. This small bakery has a nice variety. The displays were filled with everything from cookies and brownies to cupcakes and cheesecakes. The associate said that the lemon and strawberry crunch cupcakes are two of their popular items so I had to try both. Both were tasty but the lemon was my favorite. It was packed with lemon flavor! Friday night game night (once a month), I've been enjoying their cafe food - from m the waffles (yum) to their individual size pizzas (special of the day), they're solid. When my friend Al commented on how good the vegan meatball sub was, my first comment was "I didn't know you were vegan." "I'm not." he replied. "It's that good." I am wary, because most of the vegetarian/vegan "just like meat" food I've eaten tastes, well, close, but not fooling me. I decide to order it anyhow. I'm hungry. OMG y'all it's fabulous. Delicious. Please be careful before you shop here, this Bakery is freezing their Birthday Cakes 1-2 before you pick your cake up they let it thaw out. These cakes they're selling are not fresh don't be fooled. I preordered a cake from them on 6/10/2024, The agreed pick up date was on my relatives birthday which was 6/18/2024. When I got home with the cake my family and I started to sing happy birthday the candles had a hard time going into the cake and the knife also couldn't cut the cake due to it being frozen. The Owner of the bakery told me that there was nothing that she could do for me but what I could do is let the cake thaw out for 45 mins. Stay far away from these Clowns go to your nearest GIANT Bakery they won't freeze your cake. read more

[512] I've been eating Kia's Cakes for the past year or so ... It was great that they finally opened a storefront on beautiful historic Lansdowne Ave. These delicious cake/cookies/pastries are definitely making a name for themselves at the local Gelato place (where they sold items in the winter) and the local farmers market. Everything we purchased from Kia's Cakes has been delicious so far. The one thing I haven't tried yet is the cake. HA! The inside of the store is very inviting with it's tons of tables and cushy chairs. Lighting inside is great along with the relaxing music. Perfect for eating breakfast/pastries and reading the paper or just hanging with the family. There are a few hot breakfast items available long with a few lunch items (see my pic of the menu). It's on a main road so parking is tough. A few spots out front and a parking lot across the street. The store front needs a sign but I'm sure it's coming. They are closed Mon/Tues. Open pretty early Wed-Fri (7am) and Sat (8am). I'm think they should be open earlier on Sunday (now it's 10am) but I'm sure they will figure it out. It would be perfect spot to visit after mass. So after reading some very good reviews I decided to In trust my nieces bridal shower cake to Kias cake. Unfortunately it was an emotional nightmare. I spoke back n fourth with "Rachael" who promised they would and could accommodate the shower cake I had envisioned. Simple 2 tier cake with mauve and burgundy flowers cascading. Cake was to be ready at 11:00am shower was at 12. 20 minutes from shower location. Cake was not ready when promised. Then stated they didn't have enough flowers They would use white and red. After waiting over 30 minutes. We were handed 2 cakes in separate boxes. The 2 tier cake was not assembled never ever have I heard of such a thing. Arrived at shower. Go to display the cake on the dessert table and it's a mess. The layers were sliding apart all cream was off one side. The top layer could not be placed on top since the bottom layer fell apart and not to mention was missing an entire side of cream As I contacted them numerous times they said I would be compensated. But I actually wanted an apology and an explanation why and what happened? They said they would have Kia contact me. 24 hours still no apology Never have I ever experienced a situation like this and I pray no one would ever have to have their special occasion ruined. Super good cake from an adorable spot! My mom decided to stop by here to get my graduation party treats and I pretty much fell in love as soon as I got in the shop. The bakery case was beautiful and the set up was nice and cozy. Nice chillhop music makes it a perfect place to get some work done. We got the vanilla 7in cake along with a dozen cupcakes: caramel cappuccino, lemon raspberry, lemon blueberry, vegan strawberry, red velvet, and triple chocolate. They were not only a hit, but people almost immediately asked where we got them from because they wanted more! I ordered chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day and they were great!!! High quality chocolate, super fresh berries, very reasonable prices. I'd post pics but the berries were consumed long before I could reach anything with a camera. Soon I'll return and try their gluten free cake offerings. I chickened out this time because the person on the phone seemed a little confused about what was and wasn't gluten free--she offered me a V-day treat box that contained (normal) pretzels even after I'd stated that I was looking for something GF. But honestly this says more about my own anxieties when placing orders over the phone than Kia's Cakes' actual GF competence levels. One last thing-- it smells SO GOOD in this shop! SO GOOD. The service and the staff are really nice. I had the cupcakes at the Lansdowne night market and I really liked them. Since then I've been there twice and the quality wasn't the same. Seems like the baked good are old, and some flavors have a weird taste( lemon and salted caramel). They also serve really good coffee. This location has a cute cozy dining area. I did not get what I ordered and that is unacceptable period. - I did not request a cake I saw in a Hollywood magazine or TV show. I was told, " the cake came out smaller than expected," nooooooooooo then you throw it away and make it AS EXPECTED. I needed a cake for 20 people not a baby cake for 12 people because you messed up. Then take a few bucks off like you are doing me a favor. There was no way that cake was for 18-20 people no way. I needed the gold colors because that was my color scheme. I also ordered one dozen cupcakes with gold liners. She gave me mix matched baking cups and wrappers. It looked terrible. She just grabbed whatever she had left in her kitchen.
