I walked into this lovely shop in Narberth after looking for a last minute place to pick up some sweets for a friend's birthday. Not only was I greeted with a warm welcome but the pastries were absolutely delicious. I got two of the lemon tarts, the cheesecake, and the special Swiss roll. I also picked up the Swiss au pan just for funsies and that was delicious. For a wonderful mom and pop type of place, do not miss out on checking them out. I don't know how hidden this hidden gem is, but to me it is tucked away. I had the most delicious Pain Aux Raisins here with rum-soaked raisins. It was so crispy and absolutely delightful. My 2-year-old with refined tastes enjoyed his chocolate macaron and the staff were so patient while I tried to decode his toddler-speak to figure out what he wanted. We really miss Le Petit Mitron because their bakery goods were so authentically French and delicious. Blue Owl replaced Le Petit Mitron, and much to our disappointment, the food quality dropped to that of all the other "French" bakeries. They are OK, but not deliciously French. This is the BEST bakery in this area!!!! No joke everything I had so far was delicious. My absolute favorite is their eclair and pistachio tart. It's so hard to find eclairs with rich and flavorful cream inside but ones they make check all the boxes for me. Their croissants and other pastries are always really fresh. I feel like the prices are very reasonable. It's similar to a lot of the cafes around this area. The cashiers are always very helpful and sweet. There aren't places to sit inside which can be the only downfall of this bakery. However there are cute chairs and tables outside where u can sit when it's nice out. read more

It's a cute little French patisserie right next to the Narberth train station. Perfect to grab a drink and a fresh pastry and catch up with friends or to just snack on something delicious. They do have seating inside and some tables outside. The tables outside would be perfect to sit at when it's nice outside. They have a myriad of teas and confections to buy and I think the chocolates are made in house which is great. I stopped in here with a friend for some tea and a pastry one evening and we each got a tea and split a chocolate croissant and it was great! It's everything I want in a little local bakery and I will definitely go back to try other baked goods from them. The fruit tarts and eclairs looked so inviting. Good job Le petit Mitron! It recently changed management and while I think this place is still miles ahead of average American bakeries it does not in my opinion match the quality of the bakes if the prior chef. I tried the opera cake and the chocolate raspberry cake. The opera cake here previously was simply divine. This one was okay. Not the same level at all. And also I think not as good as the French bakery in Ardmore. So yeah, good but as good as the previous management. The previous management had issues too. As a former city gal who's been to her fair share of bakeries these were one of the best! The kouigin amann were perfectly flaky and nicely glazed which added an extra crunch. We also got the pain suisse, something new that we have never seen in any of our staple philly bakeries which was equally delicious. Staff were friendly and made a mean cappuccino. Frozen pastries? I've been coming to Le Petit Mitron since Rick Nichols wrote his 2001 review praising them to the skies and I can vouch for the fact that they, too, froze their pastries. I can also vouch for the fact that Angela and Andrew have made spectacular use of the baton Patrick and Isabelle passed to them, adding canneles to the mix. I can also vouch for the fact that their pastries (like LPM's) freeze well. I buy in bulk and always buy over 100 dollars worth on every visit, as many pastries as will fit in my freezer. If it's a nice day I'll have a few to eat outside with my daughter with a cup of their excellent Herman's coffee. read more

The new almond croissant is HUGE, so big and heavy it is impossible to eat. there is something different/ wrong about the pastry, although I can't put my finger on it. The opera cake was one of my favorite desserts, but the new version is not as delicate as the previous version which was probably 2/3 of the current size with much thinner layers. Croissants here use 100-percent butter as opposed to a 50/50 mix of butter and margarine, so it's the real deal and explains the price tag. In fact, I'd say most of their pastries are pretty good, though I think Aux Petits Delices in Wayne does Napoleon Slice better - I think it has more vanilla in it. The Lindors are very overpriced (90 cents a piece) considering they're the same variety you can get at Rite Aid or CVS. If they were the exclusives that you can only get at the Lindor store in the Premium Outlets or Allentown, then I could better justify the price. read more

This is a place I will freely admit is beyond my sophisication level. I don't speak French. I can't eat a lot of pasteries because of my damn dairy allergy, especially French ones ( oh the cream filling) but this is one of my favorite places to walk into and even just buy a cookie. A small, tiny cookie from this place. That makes my whole day . The coffee is supreme- La Colombe. The teas- so many selections. the pasteries- so wonderful. On Saturday morning when we have our children we buy 12 croissants and they are gone in minutes ( greedy bitches). There are so many wonderful choices of pasteries it's too wonderful to even think about. In the summer, they have a delectable sorbet in again- wonderful- flavors like mango and raspberry. The children ask all winter for it. One can also buy chocolates ( so romantic) and candies ( so sweet). Even lollipops. I wish the place was open right now...sigh. I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone. My fiance and I stopped here today to buy some cookies. which I've had many times before. This was my first time in the actual store and the customer service was atrocious. We were the only two patrons in the store, yet we were not greeted and no one offered to help us with anything. I made eye contact with both employees, yet received blank stares in return. A woman and her daughter walked in behind us and were greeted warmly, which was a blatant difference from silence we were greeted with. I'm extremely disappointed as I've recommended this shop to MANY colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania based on food quality.
