"When in doubt treat it like art - know what you like." Ed, 2019…read more I can't say I know much about ramen. I know what's fresh and what's not. I know what's tasty and what's not. This was enjoyable but not blowing-me-out-of-the-water amazing. The restaurant is small, some might say "cozy" I say "encroaching on personal space". The wait staff give the impression that they are just trying to get through the day. I can tell that the chefs lack passion for their work as it is reflected in the food. While the menu maintains a decent variety and the wait time was short, the food was just average. Pork was okay, soup was okay, egg was okay. One thing I do remember that was incredible was the bamboo (was it bamboo?). That was the first time I've ever enjoyed it. For the price I believe the meals to be acceptable, around $20 for two people without drinks. If you want a cheap and quick meal come here. If you want ramen so great that it'll be highlighted at your eulogy, go else where.

The food comes out in less than 10 minutes and we watched it being cooked. The chefs are incredibly fast and efficient, hygiene a big plus here. The kitchen is on full display. Each mouthful of the seafood udon vegetable stir fry was absolutely delicious. No MSG in this food. The flavours of each individual vegetable and piece of seafood was evident and I woofed down the food in no time....I was definitely hungry. My companion affirmed his chicken dish was similarly very tasty and the vegetables crunchy.

#76 for 2021 My…read morewife and I got hungry and wanted something to eat to hold us over before meeting my cousin for dinner. Chef's Gallery was across the street from the mall we were shopping at making it convenient. It wasn't busy coming in after the lunch rush. We were waiting for awhile before getting acknowledged. Finally a lady came and asked if someone was helping us. I said "no" and her reply was ok I'll get someone for you. Ended up waiting a little longer before seating at a table a few steps away. Just deal with it I said. Remember this is Australia I said. They don't accept tipping here I said. And service is not a big thing here I said. I said all that. To myself. It helped a little. The restaurant is large with decor from mainland China. Cultural and historical pieces gave an enjoyable ambiance. Chefs can be seen working at their stations in the kitchen through large windows separating the dining area. The station for the hand made noodles drew the most attention especially the pulling. They make it look so easy. It certainly enhances the dining experience. Dishes are meticulously crafted with color and aesthetics to appeal to all senses. The decor, traditions and flavors of China were balanced in harmony. It is a mystical journey worth the journey. I so wanted the noodles but we just needed something a bit lighter to make sure we had room for dinner in only a few hours. The food is served family style. Large portions meant for sharing. Luckily there were small dishes we could order. We decided to share the Hot Sour Soup and Sweet Sour Pork. I would eat most of the soup. One of my faves. The soup was elegant. Fresh green onions came through the thicken broth. Mushrooms had a lite crunch in contrast to the soft egg texture. This was good. And equally good was the pork. Crispy battered outside but tender and juicy on the inside. I wish there was more sauce with this. Dessert buns were brought out complimentary. That was nice. Next time I'd like to try the hand made spinach noodles. The green color drew envy from everywhere. Many tables ordered these noodles. That's a sign of "that good" huh. Maybe pair that with the rock lobster. The noodles are definitely the signature dishes. Dim sum and hot pots are available. Small sharing dishes, main sharing dishes and roti selections include quality ingredients of wagyu beef, lobster, lamb, pork, shrimps and other beefs. The menu is amazing and wonderful to look at. I wanted to try everything wishing i had 3 stomachs to fill. Water was brought to our table in a large cola type bottle. It went down fast. while waiting for the food. I was trying to flag down someone to get more. Couldn't see our waitress. It took awhile but finally got it. Sheesh. Same thing happened with the check. I was flagging anyone who looked my way. And that was hard because it seemed like no one wanted to look my way. Well, we finally got out. The food is excellent. I so loved it and want to try more off that menu. The service, however, leaves something to be desired. I would come back but will need to make sure I have extra patience on hand. I was about to leave a tip then I remembered.

We ordered 4 very straight forward dishes on their lunch special menu - dishes which will be easily completed and served. You would think..... We enquired about it twice (after waiting for 15 and 20 minutes). Ambience is not the best.... I would prefer to comment on the quality of the food except that we waited around 30 minutes and none of those populate dishes had arrived! I would NOT recommend CHEFS GALLERY MACQUARIE to anyone.

The fit out is modern and creates a comfortable environment whilst it's space adequately caters for families. Its space is pram friendly, baby seats are clean and plastic bowls and cutlery are provided for kids. The waiters are attentive and polite. Although the restaurant is known for its ramen (Japanese noodles in broth), we ordered the combination sashimi ($39.80), spider roll ($11.80) and Agedashi tofu ($6.80). The meal came with free miso soup. It took approximately for the dishes to arrive. The sashimi platter comprised of salmon, tuna and yellow fin sashimi as well as scallops and oysters. The sashimi was fresh, the scallops sweet and fleshy and the oysters of a generous proportion. The spider roll (4 pieces) encompassed soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber and roe. The Agedashi tofu (4 pieces) was well cooked and had an adequate amount of sauce. The downsides to this restaurant is that it can get pretty packed on Friday and Saturday nights, resulting in a wait for the food. Furthermore, the restaurant is next to an Internet Café, which results in smokers hanging near the entrance of the restaurant. Given that the front door needs to be manually closed, I have experienced several circumstances whereby cigarette smoke has drifted in. Overall the food was amazing, the ambience welcoming and comfortable and the service great. Ichiraku has a loyalty card whereby ten stamps will entitle you to a free shoyu ramen. I believe the restaurant is also currently running a promotion whereby every ramen comes with free extra ramen. The best Japanese restaurant in Eastwood.

Service is friendly as it has always been and also quite attentive. The sashimi is fresh and there's a nice selection on its platter. The main staple we get here though, for lunch is usually the business lunch specials which are such good value. We get half don and half noodle, which is great for those who are indecisive - you can get the best of both worlds! The don we get is usually one with the chicken katsu and the noodle is the ramen or the udon. Don't expect too much from the ramen and you won't be disappointed. It's not their specialty here so it's not got that thick pork bone soup style to it but it's tasty nonetheless. Bento boxes are also good value with a miso soup and rice as well as tea, you'll be wanting a siesta afterwards! Everything is always consistently cooked well and prepared well. The salads are fresh and the karaage chicken is nice and crispy (beats KFC any day!). Our go to bento is usually one with the karaage. Also in the bento is sashimi, and a spring roll or gyoza if you get the deluxe versions. The karaage comes as a side in the deluxe version! The menu is varied and there's so much to choose from. We've had most things and never disappointed. The place has that Japanese dining bar feel to it because it is so small with about seating inside for 25 maybe? but it has seating outside too. Nice on a beautiful sunny day. The place isn't really built for more than a group of 4 inside and outside you might be able to go with a table of 8? But that's ok by us, we just love it as our local easy Japanese place to eat for 2! :)

Dinner at yet another Japanese restaurant run by Koreans in the Eastwood/Epping area…read more FOOD My tummy had split feeling about the food here. - The Scallop Aburi sushi ($12.50) was perfectly blow torched which left the centre soft enough to melt in your mouth. The mustard sauce was the perfect sauce accompaniment to the scallops as well. - The broth in the Spicy Miso Ramen ($13.80) was awesomely spicy and left me wanting to keep drinking the soup. The roasted pork with the ramen was a bit tough though which was disappointing. - We ordered a half California Roll for $5 as a special with the ramen but now I wished I hadn't done this. The proportion of rice compared to filling just wasn't right. Too much rice means not enough taste. - Sashimi was ordinary. I'm not sure if it just wasn't as fresh or wasn't cut as well as other places but I've definitely had better. SERVICE Farily busy for a Sunday night. 3 waiters/waitresses running around was clearly not enough that they were rushing and stressing and making silly little mistakes. I'm forgiving though. OVERALL Not bad Japanese food. Behind the bamboo sliding doors are private rooms so it would be a good place for a birthday or larger gathering to eat, drink and be rowdy in true Japanese drinking style!

When I made the reservation: - Told there is a minimum of $35 per person for private room bookings - Oysters in the set menu were FRIED (probably not even delivered on that day) - Grilled fish was grilled to the point where it was inedible When friend made the reservation: - No minimum per person cost - Oysters in set menu were FRESH - Fish was grilled alright. Overall my experience here wasn't great. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone, especially if they are not Korean speakers, as there seems to be some discrimination going on.
