Did I order the wrong thing? What's up with all the 5 star reviews? Purposely arrived for early dinner to avoid queuing and was quickly seated. Ordered the miso ramen. The char siu, bamboo shoots and soup texture were standard. Texture of ramen was a bit limp and overcooked. Unless you can eat ramen super fast, the ramen gets really mushy mid/end of meal. The soup was so disappointing. Just miso and salt. The egg, while jammy was bland. I've had worse, but given the glowing reviews online and the lines, I expected a decent experience. Other ramen places in NYC and Tokyo with similar pricing or even cheaper are soooooo much better. Hide-chan and Ichiran.

Matt K. and I rode our bikes here from the city (dope ride, do it if you get a chance) because we like ramen and heard this place was good. Unfortunately, this set some high expectations. The interior is really cool and casual; there's a board featuring the top 5 ordered ramen dishes and naturally, I ordered #1: soy sauce flavour + roast pork, egg, nori, and shallot for $13.50. We also ordered stuff pork buns...which at $4.50 were not worth it. The broth was good, it wasn't too heavy and it's most similar to Menya. The noodles were OK, not too hard but not soft enough for my taste. The egg was a little overcooked, and the pork was unfortunately the worst part...way too dry and overcooked. All in all the place is average for my tastes, I'm not sure I would venture out of the city to come here again, considering the other options in the CBD.

Authentic Japanese Ramen, really high quality. The interior of the shop is a little bit old and cramped, and you may end up on a share table. There's frequently a long line outside. It's worth the wait. Location is a bit odd though there is not much else around so if you decide the line was too long there are not many other options

I had been living on the North Shore for over five years and frequently went to Balmoral Beach and every time we drove past we noticed there was a crowd of people lining up outside this little hole in the wall style eatery. Didn't think much of it really until one of my friends said that this place made loads of Sydney guides places to eat. Flash forward five years and I moved away from the North Shore to the Eastern Suburbs and I was still yet to try this place. I decided enough was enough and crossed that great Harbour Bridge with one goal and that was to accomplish a task well and truly over due. I made it to Ryo's and they were packed already after being open just 20 mins but luckily I was able to sneak my way in and sit on one of the bar side stools on the counter. I decided to look at the recommended Ramen and order No. 3 on the top list which was Tokyo Soy Sauce. This Ramen combined Roasted Pork, nori, egg and bamboo shoots. The broth was delicious and not too thick. The noodles were plentiful and soft. I also opted to go with an extra egg and a side of spiced kimchi. The dining experience was definitely worth all the hype that this place receives and only regret is I didn't come here sooner. Definitely keen to try one of the more spicier ramen dishes next time I make my way across to the North.

A friend and I tried Ryo's Noodles over the weekend after hearing good things about it. We've been on this hunt for great ramen around the Sydney area...so why not check out Ryo's? Well...at least we took another one off the list? Ha.. It wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. Worth the trip? Maybe if you had a car...and that's a big maybe. If not then there are better options for ramen. I went with the Tokyo Style Soy Sauce ramen and actually liked the soup itself. It was different and a lot lighter than some other establishments I've tried. The noodles were a bit smaller though I didn't mind it. They weren't soft noodles, which I happened to like. The pork was a bit dry for my liking...it looked a lot better than it actually tasted. I also had a pork bun and I would advise to avoid. The bun itself was very doughy and very heavy...the filling was a bit salty as well. I'm not one to shun a place completely after 1 visit, so I'm going to have to give Ryo's Noodles another chance to see what all the hype is about. The place was busy for a Saturday afternoon and there was a constant line...so perhaps I'm missing something.

This hidden gem is worth all the wait time. The ramen is so flavorful and filled with yummy goodness. They have many options if you want to stay with the basics or go outside your comfort zone. The best ramen in Crows Nest!

Negi miso (tonkotsu base) ramen.... De-fucking-licious! The buttery rich, smooth and balanced soup matched perfectly with a couple of thick and juicy slices of chashu were perfect. I still think the egg is better at places like Gumshara, but that aside, you can easily see why this place has remained so popular for so long. Absolutely one of the top 3 ramen places in Sydney!

Ryo's has been the talk of the town as the best Ramen place in Sydney so I had to give it a try. I had high expectations going in and unfortunately Ryo's failed to deliver. I ordered the Ramen noodles in spicy pork soup. I was waiting for the ramen to blow me away but instead all it was stop me from being hungry.

I'm probably a bit biased as I live ten minutes walk from this quaint little noodle joint, but the queues stretching down the street bear testament to the delicious awesomeness inside. Had the soft shell crab, fried chicken kara-age and tonkotsu ramen #3 (spicy broth) tonight - incredibly flavourful yet well-balanced. Someone has commented that this is the best ramen North of the bridge, and I'm inclined to agree. A++, would nom again.

The queue to snag a table at this diminutive noodle bar is lengthy on any given night, snaking out the door of the unmissable bright orange façade. They come for the authentic Japanese ramen, served with steaming bowls of various flavoured broths. Rumour has it this is how the handmade noodles are served up in downtown Tokyo, hence the consistent demand. Navigating your way through the 'menu' can be a bit tricky; it's really just sheets of paper hung on the walls, handwritten in Japanese with scattered English translations as basic as "garlic" or "corn". It was a stab in the dark, but with help from our Japanese waitress who advised the best dishes it turned out to be a delicious one. We dined on an entrée of whole deep-fried soft shell crab, followed by ramen noodles in soy sauce pork soup, an unexpectedly rich broth topped with slices of barbecued pork meat, (what I think was) a soy sauce preserved egg and lashings of sesame seeds and spring onions. The total came in at about $15 each - not bad for a speedy weeknight meal.

Knew this had to be a winner after driving past at all hours of the day (ok, afternoon and evening) and seeing people queued up outside - you only wait on the pavement on Falcon Street for a pretty good reason. Inside is packed pretty tight - I guess that's why they happily leave their customers on the sidewalk, though perhaps they're also a great form of advertising out there. Certainly it was only a matter of time before my stomach and I were taken over by the urge to learn more. And this is it: authentic, hot, rich, salty, soupy ramen noodle, flavoured with a multitude of temptations - some more familiar to the western palate than others (though perhaps we eat the same things, but the translation from Japanese makes them sound rather peculiar). Go the soy sauce tonkotsu Ramen - it's a favourite - but I'm forcing myself back to be more experimental.

If you choose to eat inside, the reduced lighting gives it style and personal feeling. While never too busy it also has enough customers to indicate it is worth visiting. The staff are very friendly and accommodating but it is important to realise that for most of the waitresses, English is not their native language. You should keep your order simple and clear to prevent mistakes. The food can simply be summed up as excellent. They have always been very quick in bringing out soups and starters so it is worthwhile ordering those. You can expect some variation in how long it takes to get your main meal depending on how busy they are as well as how long it takes to prepare the food. Their miso soup is decent and they have a fantastic karage. Their sushi, sashami and bento boxes are of very high quality and they take a lot of extra effort in making sure it is presented beautifully. I am a big fan of their chicken teriyaki bento box as it has variety as well as tasting great. They are fully licensed and even have Japanese beers on tap. I can't comment too much on the alcohol situation as I generally don't drink alcohol at Japanese restaurants but the other people I go with say it is acceptable. The price they charge for all of this is incredible. You will be surprised when you see how low the bill is. I would consider this place exceptional value and doubt there are many other places in the Chatswood area that have food and service this good with such low prices. I would consider Izakaya Arigato a hidden gem. Absolutely worth checking out if you are in the area and have a craving for a decent Japanese meal.

But we weren't served the rice or miso (would have been too full anyway) but a little disappointed we didn't get what was promised. Udon tasted authentic, the prawn inside the tempura shell was fresh and cooked well, loved the runny egg yolk and large mushrooms. Soup base was light and tasted good. I ended up slurping all the soup, even though I don't normally eat the soup in noodle dishes. The dessert was one small scoop of black sesame ice cream. The ice cream was served inside a ramekin, and the ramekin and ice cream was frozen and ice cream had ice shavings around it. I'm pretty sure they made it more than a week ago and froze it. Didn't taste fresh, and was very dry and hard. I pierced my spoon into the ice cream and a small piece came out. Tasted very frozen, hard, and could taste the freezer taste. I didn't have any more.

We were hungry, and we were wanting Toro (tuna belly, aka the prime cut of the tuna/sushi world). We ordered: - Agedashi Tofu = 5/5 on my official Agedashi Tofu rating scale. More please! - Kingfish & Jalapeno Carpaccio (yuzu soy sauce). = Delicious, the definition of the dish, and with just the right amount of kick. - Assorted Sushi (small) = great, very fresh. - Toro sushi ($12 per piece). = The star, what people would consider "the Wagyu of the sushi world". We HAD to order it and then refrain from ordering more. It was so amazing; it basically dissolves in you mouth into complete bliss. If you haven't had Toro... and see it on the menu and love sushi/sashimi... do yourself a favour and treat yo' self! - Tempura Udon = very tasty, I loved the udon noodles. - Nabeyaki Hot Pot Udon = exceptional. I walked out still tasting the sweet/salty goodness. If I had to say anything negative about my experience is that we couldn't keep ordering more food. We could have ordered another round of Toro easily (but that would have been $24). In the end, what we ordered came to $111 - which is pricey, but you also don't need to order the amount of food we did.
