Pretty good ramen with nice soup base. Noodles are thinner than in other ramen restaurants (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but unfortunately mine felt a bit undercooked. I'll give them another try to see if I was just unlucky this one time. The karage bao was quite nice, with the crunchiness of the fried chicken contrasting quite nicely with the softness of the bun, and the kimchi and slightly spicy sauce was quite nice. Plenty of water and condiments available, although the placement of the ordering station close to the door is a poor design, the line to order and pay seems to block entry to the door.

Not hard to see (or taste) why this joint is quite popular, located on the ground floor of an office tower certainly helps. Prices have crept up slightly (if i am not mistaken) but still good value, considering the portion and that they dont scrimp on ingredients. Much prefer outlets to adjust prices rather than portion sizes. We only ordered their tonkotsu (pork) based ramens, not the soy or miso based ones. Noodles were on point (see pics on my dineline), soup was rich, medium thick, marinated egg gooey on the inside. Best thing was they were served properly hot. Hate lukewarm ramen.

White tonkotsu ramen. Added the egg for additional $

Just a few minutes walk from Chatswood station is Hakata Maru. The inside was clean and had some long tables, seats by the kitchen, and some smaller tables in the corner surrounded by brick walls. A kids movie was projected on one of the walls, which was hard to see but nice for the table next to us who brought their kids (and were totally mesmerized by the movie and food!) The white tonkotsu ramen was great - creamy rich broth, decent potion size, noodles were al dente. You can order additional toppings, like egg, cha siu... and if you can order more of the noodles if you've finished the noodle but you still have some broth. We also ordered the goyza and karaage. The goyza was a little soggy than I like, but the karaage was pretty good with the two sauces it came with. Service was standard. It was pretty good ramen for about $12 and being in a convenient location.

    Gyozas yummy

A good ramen place! We were craving for the hakata ramen again so here we are! Broth is the right consistency for me. Rich and delicious and not too thick like gumshara. Pork is delicious. Service is fast. The ramen is so delicious ! Love this place.

Popped in for lunch today around 2pm and it wasnt as busy. Order and pay at the door and then take a seat and wait. We got served some table water as well as little bowls of garden salad. Then I got my Prawn tonkatsu and my partner got the pork. This place has more thinner style noodles but with a really nice broth. They had more variety when it came to what sort of meat. Two new options which i have never seen is the prawn and deep fried chicken. My partners pork was the crumbed style but he enjoyed it. Overall, great first visit.

They have a unique treat called 'Onigiri', which is a traditional type of Sushi thats in a triangle - the thing about it is that the way it is wrapped, the seaweed wrapper never touches the rice/filling, which results in a very fresh and crispy wrapper. They come in various flavours, and if you want to try some I would advise getting there before 7pm (as there is limited stock). The Ramen is great. Beware their 'Volcano' hot ramens as they are very spicy. The 'Volcano' was too much for my gf who prides herself on being able to eat hot foods... and I have no idea how someone can have the 'Super Volcano' variant. I really enjoy their Waygu Beef Curry Udon, which is really tasty. Their other dishes are good too; the Agadashi tofu is great, crispy and soft with delicious sauce. Gyoza was tasty. I would recommend trying it if you are looking for Japanese in Chatswood.

Maybe throw in a few of those preserved eggs, they've gotta be good for your skin, right? I've eaten here maybe three times and each time I've had company, but I'm saving one particular menu item for when I come here alone: the Volcano Ramen, a super spicy extra hot-to-trot bowl of glowing vesuvian goodness. Cannot. Wait.

Always make a point to stop here when I'm in the area -- my friends live around the corner from here so it makes for an easy dinner! AND it's BYO. Many a bottle of Sapporo has been enjoyed here outside on a warm summer evening. I remember writing a review for a local publication two years after they opened. Some things have changed - for one, they expanded into the next door area, so seating is not as much as a challenge as it used to be. My favorite is the negi miso ramen. https://s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com/photo/krJrdW3q23kLwMkgqR0PPA/l.jpg Have yet to find another spot (at least in Sacramento) that has it the way they do it here: strands of finely chopped negi (Welsh onion) heaping atop a steaming bowl of noodles. They also serve up gyoza, curry rice, katsu don - the usual Japanese restaurant comfort food staples. Practice your Japanese while you're here. Situated in a plaza on the way to the train, you can also pick up some Japanese comics across the way or drop in for some mochi ice cream at the corner store.
