I don't think I had ever seen a prettier Bentp Box until I got to Miso. They are giant portion, lots of colours, lots of condiments, and just aesthetically pleasing (see my photos and you'd understand). I just had not seen a prettier box! It tasted nice and it has a great variety to choose from which is awesome! There's only one problem. It cost! And cost a fair bit! Considering we are at world square and there's basically food everywhere; an asking price of $20 is honestly quite steep. especially when completion is so stiff with China town just next door. Drinks are pricy too, but I guess at least it's more inline with other places. I still recommend to try it out if you had never. Not a bad place. Just be prepared for the bill. A random plus. They play quite relaxing music there. Japanese take to classical.

Walking around down town I saw plenty people waiting before this restaurant open for dinner so why now I got to try this place I ordered Most popular katsu(pork loin) set it was #1 -katsu wasn't crispy it was just ok the meat was kind of dry too but whatever comes with it it was worth. I picked two side 1st one was the steam pumpkin, and season spinach was good taste! Comes with white rice was very delicious!! and the miso soup good as well Salmon salad(I ordered yuzu dressing)-was good ! Avocado was very fresh and lettuce but very small portion of salmon made me feel like I'm eating avocado salad instead salmon Mini size udon-was good I can taste that is not fresh house made noodle but! Wasn't bad at all. Service was just alright most of server seems very young so they are sweet but I can tell they are not professional. Don't know what to do . I saw one order Japanese lady tried to control everything for me as customers we can see that doesn't look good . Food was ok service was just ok..

Why haven't I been here before?

Tonkatsu. Katsu-tama. Teriyaki Chicken Don. Bradman Don. Karaage. Shiitake. Unagi. Chirashi. I speak fluent Japanese food. I know when James at Makoto yells out "foam underlay" it means something new has been put on the train. "Table leaning" means someone has come in and is about to be seated. But this place stumped me. All I can say or even think is tonkatsu. All my passwords have been changed to 'Tonkatsu'. I am going to rename my kids 'Tonkatsu'. All of them. And our dog. And my car, the 'Honda Tonkatsu'. I am going to write a Haiku about tonkatsu. I am going to find out if there is a country called Tonkatsu and move there. As Howard says..'Tonkatsu'

    Tonkatsu.

If you want Tonkatsu, this is THE place to go. For those unaware, Tonkatsu is breaded chicken/pork Japanese style. They offer several different bento dishes and meal combos but they are all pretty forgettable except for the Tonkatsu. It's a tad pricey for Tonkatsu, but for the best Tonkatsu in the city that's a small price to pay. The wait can be a little long and the service isn't anything to rave about, but again you should come here for the Tonkatsu. I've written Tonkatsu seven times now because it's good here. Tonkatsu.

I'm going to say this is the best play to get tonkatsu in the CBD. Miso is located right in World Square and for the most part is usually quite busy. Expect a wait, but not too long of one for dinner. The decor is simple, but definitely has it's little sense of style. Back to what's important...the food! They have a massive variety of bento boxes to choose from. Try their original tonkatsu first as it's probably the best. The bentos come with plenty of food and all super tasty. The tonkatsu itself is super juicy and unlike other tonkatsu joints, it's not over-breaded. Super light and cripsy, every bite is yum! Each bento is plenty for 1 person...a lot of the time I can't even finish it. If you're a fan of tonkatsu and the many variations then please check out Miso.

Another Japanese eatery as part of the Masuya empire, this place is known for its bento boxes which are quite good value, ranging from $15-18. The food itself is quite good as expected, however the the wait can be quite lengthy as is the line outside the door. The restaurant encourages patrons to phone ahead for orders which include 3 or more bento boxes, so you don't have to wait 15+ min. They also have smaller sets which may include only one type of dish such as sashimi or wasabi wagyu with rice. The lunch time boxes are also quite good value at $9-10 each, with a good range such as the normal karaage chicken box to a mini unagi (eel) box. They also have an 'interesting' drinks menu - try it out :) The staff like to shuffle people along and you get the impression that they want you in and out of there as soon as possible. But they are never rude about it, and this place is great as a casual catch-up with friends.

This is my most favourite menu of traditional tonkatsu and salmon sushi in bowl combo with miso soup.

I love this restaurant! Always long queue but worth it. My favourite is katsu and chirashi sushi combo. Lunch Time special is very good and economical, too.

Funky decor and speedy service make this place a good option for lunch. And the food is awesome!. As if deep fried anything is not. These guys do take it up a notch with their pork tonkatsu. My simpleton explanation, a gourmet pork schnitzel with japanese trimmings.

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. The escalators up from ground floor plop you out on the opposite side. This was my third time visiting Motto. CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

With relatively few staff that have to multitask between assembling, serving and taking orders, the queue rapidly lengthened behind us as dinner hours began. We ordered the karage bowl, plain wagyu bowl, the teriyaki chicken salad, assortment of side dishes and the matcha milk. The fried chicken is lightly battered and has a strong soy sauce flavor, topped with a layer of mayo. While the slightly undersized pieces have just came out from the fryer, the exterior barely have any crisp and is quite oily, while the interior is a little overcooked. The beef, different from its thick and succulent appearance on the menu, is overcooked and stringy. However, the flavoring on point and the topped spring onions are cut perfectly. Nothing special about the salad, and the same for the self-served takoyaki-on-a-skewer and cold tofu with sliced spring onions. The self-serve matcha milk was a pleasant surprise, with the right level of sugar and bitterness, only lacking some creaminess.

But you're not coming here for waterside ambience, you're coming for the food...and it delivers. First the logistics: You get 70 minutes to order, and 90 minutes to eat. I was with a party of 6 hungry people (4 adults and 2 kids), and it seemed a bit rushed. I wish we had the full 90 minutes. But we were really hungry, so we were furiously ordering. Ordering is done off of an iPad on the table. It was a slick set up, ordering was easy, and servers were fast. We all ordered the full buffet ($65 for adults); highly recommended as this includes the Kobe beef. Kobe beef was probably the most flavorful I've had anywhere. I ordered the ribs, cubes, and steak...this was like meat candy. Sushi was also of surprisingly good quality Salmon melted in your mouth and the scallops were fresh and flavorful. We ordered about 6 rounds through the 70 minute ordering period, right up until the final minute. I could have used an additional 20 min so I didn't feel rushed, but I definitely had all you could eat. Will definitely return when I go to Sydney!
