My daughter reminded me that we have been to their Berkeley, CA location. Quality/Quantity - They had specials, but they did not honor any of them... Maybe take down the signs? Chicken bun - Got one of each = Chicken, pulled pork, ebi. All were good, but small portions. Promotion = 3 for $21AUD. Tori Shoyu Ramen - Good, but barely enough for one person. Small portions. Beer tasters - Orion Black & Suntory Malt; both were good. The Orion Black won! Condiments - Good selection, but did not want to take away from their signature flavors, so did not use or try. Atmosphere - Cool decor, see pictures. Beautiful bar, but no one was sitting there? Chef bar seating, perfect for single people. Semi open kitchen, sushi bar open kitchen. Open 7 days a week from 11:30am to 8pm, until 7:30pm on Sundays. Yelp hours differ. My picture of posted hours and their website has more accurate business hours. Service - Okay. Price - $49AUD, $32US, but left hungry... Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1985 and with your 12 Australian locations and with all of your world wide locations. 2008 Opened your NY, US location. 2010 Ranked #1 on Yelp in NY for US Coast to coast restaurant review. #3 in 2011. We came here for lunch and really enjoyed it! It was like stepping back into Japan when we lived there. From the greeting of "Irrashaimase!!" to the excellent service, we had a great experience. Hubby and I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. He got the spicy version; me, the standard. The egg was cooked perfectly with a soft yolk. Broth was delicious. Noodles had just the right firmness. We sat at a large shared table and were happy with that experience as well. Overall, we had a great experience at zippier and would definitely come back! read more

This ramen here was so good! It was a rainy day in Sydney so I walked to the Westfield mall to find this restaurant. It's a bit difficult to find on the fifth floor of the mall but that's because it is so large. I ordered the Tori Shoyu and LOVED the broth! There was so much depth to it and it wasn't too salty or spicy. Although I alway wish for more, the portion was a decent size. I realized that there are more Ippudos in the US after eating here so I am making plans to visit more! read more

Was craving for ramen after a long 51 cruise that served "okay" Asian cuisines. We happened to be walking around this area and decided to pop in for some warm soup. It is quite tricky to find this place as it's in the Westfield mall on the 5th floor. I don't think I would've found it if I didn't read it from another Elite. This mall is like a maze to me! Luckily we found it in no time tucked in a corner ish. The place was pretty bustling, but there weren't a wait time. The place didn't looked that busy, but the servers were all over the place. Took them a minute to realized we needed to place the order. We shared a communal table and enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Akamaru Shinjai and my partner ordered 3 bao buns. He had one of each - pork belly, pulled chicken, and pork. My bowl of ramen tasted fantastic and I was literally slurping every string of noodles and every drop of soup! The bao on the other hand was a little disappointment. I'm always skeptical about the bao being anything other than pork belly. Pork belly is always my fav, but he wanted to try it out. He, too, said if he had to do it all over again he would've ordered all pork belly. Overall it satisfied our tummy or so I thought it did. I didn't feel too well the next day. I thought I ate too much or something, but come to realized that I had food poisoning. I was throwing up the next two days and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I felt like I was on my death bed. Now I'm traumatized. read more

I am sure there are other great Ramen places in Sydney but this is my go to because its convenient, so fast, and excellent quality. I have not left without finishing everything in my bowl as well as either an extra noodle serving or an appetizer (gyoza...karage...char siu bau...all definite winners). And I enjoy the communal tables as well. I've heard some ridiculously banal conversations comparing average starting salaries at tech companies to seeing a single diner pull out a laptop, a phone, AND a switch all at once to "consume" while consuming. The mall makes for a wide customer base. read more

Ippudo is a Japanese ramen chain. Our first encounter was 10 years ago in Kyoto and since then we've tried many Ippudo restaurants in different cities in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, etc) and the USA (CA). We didn't hesitate to try it in Sydney Australia. This one is located in a Westfield Mall on the dinning floor with many other eateries and restaurants. Good space and ambience, service is always friendly as typical in Australia. We ordered the bonito tonkotsu ramen, akamaru ramen, katsu pork with curry, pulled pork bun, and pork belly bun. The ramen choices were rather limited because I didn't see any miso or shoyo broth varieties, only tonkotsu. The pork buns are Chinese style open-mouthed, I only saw them on the menu here, a nice touch catering to local population. Ramen was good, pretty standard Ippudo quality. Recommended if you happen to be in the area and in the mood for tonkotsu ramen and katsu dishes. read more

First let me begin...I am not a ramen expert. I like Asian cuisine generally. Wife and I are visiting Sydney and was looking for Ramin near our hotel. We are from Florida,USA. Very nice restaurant with several seating options. We picked family style, so I could view the proper technique of eating soup with sticks! There were plenty of experts seated nearby. The first item ordered was a prawn bun for sharing and it was delicious. Then I ordered spicy ramen deluxe with pork. It was great and not too spicy. Temperature hot as it should be. My wife chose the vegi ramen which she enjoyed. Servers were very helpful and their English was more than adequate. In summary, an enjoyable dinner that was fun and did not break the bank. read more

There's definitely something different with their tonkotsu broth....it was really, really good! We've been to the other Ippudo's and I can honestly say that all of them are different, but at the same token... all of them are the same. I know that doesn't make sense, but their consistency with their classic tonkotsu broth is very impressive. Highly recommend trying this place out. It can really get busy, so be prepared to wait. read more

I had been wanting to try Ippudo's ramen for a while and this location was convenient for lunch. They're in the Westfield mall on the 5th floor. It's a popular spot - by noon there was a line up. The dining area is quite large, with big communal tables. I was very happy to see an iced tea option that was not sweetened! If you visit at lunch there are some good value sets that range from $11-17. That will get you a ramen if your choice, a small salad and potentially a small appetizer. I had the spicy tonkotsu, and the Mister had the Bonito version. Both cane with pork belly and well cooked noodles. I liked my creamy broth with a bit of kick to it. Beware - the bonito version is really fishy smelling. The gyoza that came with our set were nothing special but the salad was fresh and had a nice wasabi tinged dressing. Would return. read more

First time having Ippudo and it was pretty good. I just thought the price was a bit too pricey but it's definitely a lot better than the ramen I would have in Rowland Heights. I went a little early and barely manage to avoid the wait. They have a lot of people and understandably so since it's in Westfield. I thought the broth was tasty, the noodles were pretty good, but the pork could be a little better. I didn't have karaage but the person next to me had it and it smelled great and looked great...just a FYI because I almost ordered it just from the person next to me. haha overall, I'll consider coming back but there are actually a lot of ramen options in Sydney so I'm not in a hurry to come back. read more

When is it not good? Service was on point - friend and I came through during the lunch rush and we got a table as staff were clearing tables efficiently. Visited this ramen spot during my visit to Australia, and I honestly wasn't expecting much given the other foods I had been eating during the trip. But-- I was pleasantly surprised! This is located in West Field mall, but it can get crowded! There was a pretty long line but I would say we got through within 30 minutes or so of waiting. We were seated at the bar area and the hardest part was choosing which flavor of ramen to get. They all sounded so good but I went with the Karaka-men and added bamboo and an egg. I cleared the entire bowl and soup. I tried to savour the last few bites because honestly this might be one of the best ramen joints I've hit up..and living in San Mateo, I've been to plentttyyyy! read more

Ipuddo is located amongst the food court on the 5th floor of Westfield Sydney and despite it being a Monday, there was still a ridiculous lunch rush. With long, communal tables, our small party of 2 was seated intimately adjacent to other parties. I recommend their pork belly buns! The fatty, succulent pork belly was savory and flavorful, only made all the more enjoyable served inside white, pillowy buns. The akamaru shinaji ramen was served with thin, firm noodles Hakata-style. The flavorful and rich tonkotsu broth came with garlic oil, shallots, black mushrooms, blended miso paste, and pork belly so tender that it dissolved in my mouth. It was quite possibly the best ramen I've ever had. We were so glad that we dined at 11am. By the time we left, there was already a long queue outside the restaurant! read more

I have been wanting to try Ippudo for quite some time. This popular Japanese ramen chain has locations all over Asia, along with a smattering of stores outside this continent in London, New York and Sydney. My travels led me to many of the locales in which there is an Ippudo, but I was unable to try it out until I visited the Westfield Sydney location when I was traveling in Australia. The restaurant is located on the 5th floor of this mall. This floor is the same one that one of the mall's food courts is located in, but this is actually a full-scale restaurant. At the front of the restaurant you will find the restaurant's bar along with a couple of dining tables outside the ramen shop. There is a waiting area here to be seated inside. I was traveling solo so I was wondering if they had any space since the restaurant was quite full. Fortunately, they do have counter seating for this very reason so I was able to find a space. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully modern. Ippudo is known for its tonkotsu ramen as it originated in Fukuoka. The menu here is quite sizable as it doesn't just serve ramen like the other popular Japanese tonkotsu ramen chain, Ichiran. Here you can find other offerings like gyoza, rice bowls, salads, steamed buns and even tonkotsu sandwiches. Given the mall location, I thought the food prices were decent. Comparable to having a bowl of ramen in Seattle when factoring the USD-AUD conversion rates. The basic ramen bowls are in the $15-17 range. Add a few dollars if you want an egg or additional meat topping. For my meal, I opted for the limited time ramen offering on special called Ippudo Kuro ($15). To pair, I got an order of crab frits ($7) and a glass of Sake One ($6). The ramen took a while to come out so I was glad that I ordered an entree (Australian name for appetizer) and drink. Sake One is an Australian produced sake that is made locally. I thought it was pretty good, though it tastes different from the Japanese sakes I have had previously. It tasted more like a regular wine to me. And though the crab frits, which are mini crabs that are deep fried are best eaten with a glass of Japanese beer, they worked perfectly fine with the sake. This is a great bar food offering if you are here just for a drink. The crabs are crunchy and accompanied by a spicy mayo and lemon. As for the ramen, I enjoyed it as it had a nice rich broth. The noodles in this dish were different from the usual slippery noodles as they were thick. They look almost like udon, but the taste was reminiscent of Okinawan soba. I wouldn't call this the best ramen that I have had, but it was above average. If you are looking for a bowl of ramen in the Sydney CBD, Ippudo is where I would recommend going. It has nice ambiance, prices are reasonable and the menu here has plenty to choose from. The offerings go beyond just serving ramen. read more

I'm not even a ramen fanatic but they've got some good noods! They have seasonal dishes so we just tried the special menu ramen and rice dishes which were overly salty but still really delicious. It's surprisingly delicious and delivers full-on restaurant style atmosphere in a mall. Service was friendly and fast. Kinda pricey for what it is at $15-20 for some ramen but it's pretty darn tasty and not all that surprising, considering where it's located. I'm weirdly obsessed w their sesame grinder.. it smells and makes everything ridiculously aromatic and instantaneously makes me drool. Seriously, why is this the first time I've seen one of these?! Ecstatic to learn that there was an Ippudo in Sydney, I knew I had to have a bowl of hot and savory Japanese comfort food, and the warm summer night couldn't deter me from my decision either. I loved the Akamaru Modern from Ippudo New York, so I tried the Akamaru Tamago ($19) here in Sydney. The Akamaru Tamago is the Akamaru Shinaji (Akamaru Modern equivalent in NY) with a soft-boiled egg. The tonkotsu broth was rich, salty, delicious, and had very bold flavors. The garlic oil wasn't very prominent as I hoped, and the broth thickened near the end of my meal, so unfortunately, I couldn't finish it. The noodles were nice and chewy, and you have the option to ask for hard, medium, or soft noodle texture. The soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly, yielding a great creamy and gooey yolk. And the pork belly was good, but not as soft and tender as I liked. The pork bun entree ($4 each) was small, but delicious. The slice of braised pork was tender with crispy edges, and the buns were soft and chewy. Although small, the pork bun was a prefect balance of sweet, salty, and savory flavors. The green tea lamington dessert ($9) was an interesting twist to the traditional cake. The green tea flavor was very subtle, the cake was so moist, and the red bean filling was good. It came with a small scoop of green tea ice cream, which was on point for flavor but too icy in texture. I was glad there was no queue at Ippudo Sydney, like the outrageous one at NY. The restaurant is on the 5th floor of Westfield Sydney, so even though the shopping mall closes at 6:30pm, Ippudo remains open until 10pm or 11pm. Service was very friendly, and the restaurant was very spacious. Though the food was delicious, albeit expensive, at Ippudo Sydney, it wasn't quite as memorable as my first experience at Ippudo NY. read more

For a mall food court this place is legit. Excellent ramen and delicious pork buns. Some of the best ramen I've had.

We decided to try out Ippudo Sydney for a mid-afternoon snack. Due to the time of day, there was no wait, but we could see plenty of table seats and solo seats around the restaurant. The ramen here is much much better than Ippudo NYC which we had a few months ago. Ippudo in the US seems to use an extreme amount of salt to achieve "flavor". While the broth here is truly rich and creamy and full of umami. The noodles were also cooked al dente so they lasted to the bottom of the bowl without getting mushy. Service is quick and efficient at the bar, and the girls serving were nice. read more

I have gone to multiple Ippudo locations worldwide and I would say this one does not meet the bar. They don't have the extensive menu offered at other locations. The marinated soft boil egg is usually my favorite part of the meal but it was barely marinated. The flavor of the broth was also bland and not full of the rich flavor I am used to. Ippudo, renowned for ramen in Asia and New York just arrived in Sydney today...so how does it stack up to Sydney's other ramen offerings? Pretty damn well! Found just outside the most ridiculous food court ever in Westfield this place is hip, fresh, and lively. It's definitely the coolest ramen shop in town. Although if I were to change one thing it would be to name this place Ippudough cause you're gonna be spending some money for ramen here. At Ippudo you get 3 choices of ramen: Shiromaru, Akamaru, and Ippudo Karaka Men. Shiromaru is a plain tonkatsu broth, Akamaru has miso paste and garlic oil and Ippudo Karaka Men has spicy miso and ground pork. Prices range from $15 - $21 depending on the ramen you get. Once you order you can choose noodles that are soft, normal, or hard. On top of that you can order sides ranging from eggs, seaweed, shallots, mushrooms, and more meat. My friend ordered the Shiromaru Chashu and I ordered the Akamaru Chashu. I have to admit, I liked the broth in the Shiromaru better but the Akamaru broth wasn't bad. You get two big pieces of chashu, but the chashu was simply OK...Zundo does chashu better. The noodles are pretty thin in comparison to the other ramen shops in town, but they taste oh so good and the texture is just right (got normal.) We both ordered Nitamagu as a topping, and don't let its looks deceive you because this egg is the bomb! It looks like a hardboiled egg but it's soft on the inside, so basically if a hardboiled egg and a softboiled egg decided to have a baby it would be this. On top of ramen we grabbed some Ippudo pork buns and Ippudo gyoza. Ippudo gyoza good....portions bad. Ippudo pork bun OK...portion OK. All in all we spent $53..for ramen. So yes, this place is pretty tasty and a welcome addition to the Sydney ramen scene but don't expect it to be cheap. You're paying for the vibe, service, and the quality. Ippudo! read more

We were still hungry after our Din Tai Fung breakfast. I felt like I was in food heaven (malls in America do not have comparable quality food courts) and our next stop was Ippudo. I'm generally not a fan of super skinny noodles but Ippudo is an institution and I wasn't going to let this opportunity pass. The restaurant could consider printing some more menus. The ones they passed out had frayed edges and were falling apart. That's a minor presentation suggestion since it clearly did not affect the food quality. We ordered two bowls of noodles: Akamaru Tamago and Karaka Men. Both were tasty and I think I liked the Karaka Men slightly more given the spice even though the Akamaru is the signature dish. These noodles were not cheap but they were delicious. read more

We ordered the Ippudo prawn katsu bun to start and it was amazing - tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. But the real highlight was the ramen - I had the Karaka-men which according to our server was a spicier version of their signature tonkatsu ramen. The broth, the noodles, and the pork were all perfect. The only gotcha was that the serving size was small and it didn't didn't include an egg or extra toppings by default. I can't quite tell if this place is expensive because it's Ippudo or because it's located in Westfield. Probably a mixture of both. $15 for a basic bowl of ramen ($2 for an egg? are you kidding me?!) and $4 for a pork bun I could probably eat in one mouthful if I tried means this wouldn't be a place I'd frequent that often. For a place famous for it's ramen the pork bun is actually the stand out. I had wonderful soft fluffy bun memories from ippudo in New York years ago. Whilst the Sydney pork buns were really nice for some reason it still fell short of how I remembered it. But that might be due to the mind making you remember the things you like in an even more awesome way than it actually was. The atmosphere inside was great. Really liked how a lot of the waitstaff were Japanese as well. Gives an authenticity to this 25+ year global establishment. read more

One thing I must point out is the waiting line for this restaurant is extremely long! But fear not, the service is great and it took as little as 10 minute to get seated. The menu is great and the food is tasty. There is a lot to look at in the menu. My specific visit today in at Ippudo Sydney is for ramen. The ramen is really good and delicious, not too salty. One of the best thing I have to say is the egg itself. I personally picked the Karaka-Men Ramen (which is has spices for those who likes a little bit of hot flavour) with all the combination. The combination gives you extra meat, mushroom, bamboo shoot, one flavour egg and additional seaweed for +$9 on the dish. Personally, the combination bonus has nothing special except the egg. The egg is really delicious; definitely add it for an extra $2 (at the time of writing). This is a great restaurant with delicious ramen and I think is worth the wait for its fine Japanese cuisine and service. read more
