    The beans to die for!
    Robert R.

Cheap, authentic, delicious food! Walk in grab a seat or a stool and service is immediate. No time wasters here by either party. The food is incredible. It is so fresh and the fried beans with onion is always a good tester for me, let alone the variety of dumplings! Oh my word..what a treat. Love the Chinese green tea on the table to accompany the meal. The tea refreshers the palate before the next mouthful of shredded potato mix, or the combination noodle dish. It was a great place to have my first Yelpers get together. Good food is always a wonderful springboard for good conversation.

Ok what!? How have I never been to this hole in the wall, fits people in like Tetris, there's faux grapes on the ceiling, damn those portions are massive Chinese eating pod until now!? It's Wednesday at 7. Granted there aren't a lot of room in this dinky restaurant but there is a queue of dumpling ready patrons ready to chow with chopsticks. Like a well fish oiled machine, our food gets ordered before we sit down so that when a table opens up for this starving duo our food (plus a generous complimentary tea) is served. Rule 1 - always get your pork and chive dumplings pan fried. The crispy outside soaks up that vinegar and soy sauce concoction beautifully. Rule 2 - don't order more than 3 plates per couple. These portions and the weight on your stomach is not benign Rule 3 - be f'in hungry Rule 4 - bring alcohol!!! They'll provide the vessel Rule 5 - DIY pork pancakes... Yum Rule 6 - try grab a spot by the noodle making window it's worth it. Hell yeah I'll be back

    Special Braised Eggplant

Considering I burnt the absolute beejezus out of my palate within the first few minutes, my experience at Chinese Noodle Restaurant was bound to be a slippery-dip of culinary wins & fails. Having found this place courtesy of the Yelp community I buckled up for what I'd heard were to be some damn fine fixings. Ushered in to a cacophony of bustling communal tables without any pleasantries, my mate Elana C. & I sat bemused by both the decor & mish-mash of people all jammed in together, bound only by a common love of dumplings. It was with impending pressure & sideways glances from the staff, that we sat our menus down & chose a round of Pan Fried Pork & Chive Dumplings, a plate of Lamb Buns after spying them on an adjacent table & a serve of Special Braised Eggplant. Numero uno, to be quite legitimately thrown on our table, were the Pork & Chive Dumplings. Little parcels of glistening, porky goodness; these suckers were golden brown & crisp to perfection. Unfortunately, that's where my love affair of these began & ended. On first bite I was hit with an overwhelming nuclear detonation in my mouth; gasping for air & quite sure that the roof of my gob had completely peeled back, I faked it out & did my best to look lady-like while choking on a mouthful of hot molten-lava. The result sent a boiling hot river of pork juice down my hand & into the sleeve of my brand new $200 Rag & Bone jumper. Shitballs. Burnt mouth, digits & ruined jumper aside, the dumplings were relatively tasty, though nothing I felt particularly excited about. Personally I've just had better, no bones about it. That being said, I couldn't help but feel that perhaps these dumplings would have been more special had they been steamed. Something for next time. The Lamb Buns too were unfortunately a disappointment. We found the the lamb overcooked, tough & as a result, they tasted stewed & rubbery. After a few bites full of wistful contemplation bordering on regret, we pushed them to the side & left them to themselves. On the other hand, the Braised Eggplant was genuinely incredible. An inspired dish, full of unique flavour, this dish is not to be missed for first timers. While also f%*@ing nuclear, this tasty little dish saved the day, if not our entire meal. It's was huge, meaty (in an eggplanty kind of way), sticky & decadently sweet. Thanks for the tip Ben. B! Overall, while we experienced a fistful of disappointment at Chinese Noodle Restaurant, there was a definite glimmer of brilliance in the air that I longed to cling onto. I think it's a safe bet to assume I'll be back... after I've recovered from the third degree burns... Sigh!

I took my mom to this location. I know this is a tourist hot spot because lots media has reported this tiny little noodle house. (Like the one in New York) We ordered their signature pork fried noodle with potsticker. ( they don't call potsticker and they don't know it's called potsticker) one fired egg with tomatoes soup. The noodle and potsticker were very authentic. Not the soup I give the soup a fail. Other than that. Great experience. Except there is no a/c in room and you get sweated all over yourself. 1 star taken out.

I highly disagree with Nelson S' review of this place. For starters I'm not white and I eat here. In fact I have Chinky eyes and eat here! With that out of the way on to my actual thoughts about this place. NEED TO KNOW When you step into this restaurant it's like you've almost been teleported to China... almost. So take note of these facts. - The population density of China is over 50 times more than Australia. Whilst the restaurant is squishy and you may be sharing a table with a stranger, be grateful they haven't tried to squish in 50 times more people than they should. - If your expecting 3 Michelin star service at this place go to a place that will make you wait more than 10 mins for food to be served on over sized plates at astronomical prices. Remember you get what you pay for. Do not complain when you satisfy those hunger pangs for less than $10. - I wish I had a China related answer to your "grapes on the ceiling" curiosity but I don't. All I can say is don't let them mesmerize you. Be strong and focus on the food. TIP - menu doesn't mention half size servings on the dumplings but they do offer them! Good if your not in a big group or want to try different flavours. So follow the crowds (Asians and non Asians alike) and enjoy a meal here.

Can't go wrong at Chinese Noodle Restaurant near Chinatown in Sydney. Not to be confused with the place next door, "Chinese Noodle House", this place does fresh noodles daily made from scratch not bought in bags. That means they are still springy and el denté to the bite. The pork buns either steamed or pan fried are equally impressive. Be sure to dip them in equal parts chilli, soy and vinegar to get that authentic traditional taste. Recently they added rather cleverly outdoor tables which adds a fair amount of people watching to the noodle slurping.

Have you ever noticed the ceiling in this restaurant? It is supposed to transport you to a garden in Beijing. One of the only northern Chinese restaurants (most of the other places in Chinatown are cantonese!) this place earns the right to be called the best noodle house in Sydney. They make the noodles right there and if you are lucky enough to get the table by the internal window to the kitchen you might see them banging away when you are eating. The pictures on the window while you are outside waiting for a table tell you all you need to know but you have to have the dumplings. Whatever version and however you want it cooked. I like the boiled, somehow they are a bit healthier but the steamed are actually great as well. In fact the lightly pan friend are also good, so whatever cooking style you won't be disappointed. One thing I have had maid to order is the cucumber and garlic salad - fantastic. The only negative is that they use their space very efficiently meaning you may be sitting at a table with other people and you may end up getting a stool to sit on or sitting with someone where you both are staring at a wall beside each other. My suggestion is to wait for another table. One other trick is to send you to their sister restaurant nearby. Even though it is the 'same kitchen', don't do it. I think part of the charm is that location and having the food come out there in that environment. It amazes me how many people can fit in their kitchen and work there and you know the turnover is high. My highest recommendation.

Combination Noodle with Mince Beef Sauce and Cucumber
    Cindy K.

My favourite Chinese Restaurant, and I'm not even big on Chinese food apart from the occasional Yum-Cha. Yes, the place is small and the service is abrupt, but I come here for the noodles. Their noodles are handmade, chewy and delicious. All their noodle dishes are tasty, but my absolute favourite is the Beijing Combination Noodle with Mince Beef Sauce and Cucumber. Other great dishes that have been tried and tested including Pork and Chives Pan-fried Dumplings, Beef and Shallot Pancake, Xinjiang Stir Fried BBQ Lamb, Salt & Pepper Crispy Pork Fillet, and Fragrant Chilli Eggplant. Be adventurous if you may and try something new from their huge menu selections. The price here is very reasonable. And there's a big chance you get to see how those delicious noodles made through the kitchen window.

    Christina C.

I heard it is a favorite of many so did it shock you that I am not impressed? Before you start throwing rotten eggs at me, I only tried their dumplings so I am only talking about their dumplings in this review. For starters, the place is small and PACKED! You place your order and wait forever until your food shows up. I got like a dozen Texas size dumplings all for less than A$10. They ended up lasting me 4 meals (just because I don't believe in throwing food away.) It's value for money for sure but I'd rather go through the trouble and make my own dumplings than eating them here.

Everyone raves about Din Tai Fung (and rightfully so), but for Sydney's best dumplings - without the price tag - you need to find the scrawny hole-in-the-wall that is the Chinese Noodle Restaurant. Don't let the grimy plastic grapes on the ceiling or the bizarre tapestry on the wall put you off. Nor the bossy manager who will demand to take your order then all but manhandle you onto a rickety stool or crate for your '5 minute' wait. There's a reason everyone is milling outside this tiny restaurant: it's BYO, it's as cheap as chips, and the food is absolutely transcends its humble setting. Must orders include: the braised eggplant, the spring pancakes (you can opt for chicken or beef, but I usually go vego) and of course some steamed dumplings. On our last visit, our group of four came away stuffed to the gills, and all for the crazy price tag of $10 each. But be warned, unless you come towards the end of an evening, don't expect to linger over your meal. The waitstaff will hustle you out in lightening quick style. For the next party has already ordered, and is perching on stools outside, just waiting for their turn to enter the grape domed dumpling mecca.

The best part of our meal was the bottled beer. The Mongolian beef was not cooked well, it was just soft and soggy in its sauce, which was overly sweet. It came out on a fajita platter sizzling, so truly impressive that it turned out as mushy as it did. There was a lot of potential for that dish to taste better. The stir fried noodles tasted like they had been cooked well at one point, but then frozen, reheated, and rinsed with water to remove any potential flavor that once existed. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, we were seated right in between two other occupied tables, which made it feel like we were all at one big dinner together instead of on our own separate date nights. The people working were very nice - just wish the food was better! This meal was one of our first meals in Sydney and made us really worried that all of our meals here would be overpriced and tasteless - thankfully, there are better options out there.

Close to Town Hall station, QVB and Darling Harbour. I've noticed this place many times walking past with its little fairy lights in its little side alleyway, the shop always full with Asian guests. We all know this looks good to us white guys lol. Finally stepped inside. So glad we did. The smell of good food, the sight of interesting dishes, the chatter of happy eaters, the varied patrons from 7-70, and a price list that made me feel like it was all going to be a bargain all added up to one thought. It's gonna be a good night!! I had already actually eaten before arriving but with the recommendations from a lovely young lady serving, our table had enough food to send my heart and stomach to a place beyond satisfaction. I wanted to keep eating even though I'd had more than enough. My lips were strangely buzzing, no the food wasn't too spicy for me...it just felt..good. The couple beside me put my meager efforts to shame. They feasted. I couldn't believe how much food could fit on their table. Not only that they were tiny. I envied them. My taste buds were dancing just observing their food and the pleasure they took slowly grazing the many dishes. We washed our food down with a pot of jasmin tea. They even offered to refill the hot water. Generous Gosh it was a good night. And a tradition I hope to establish. Settling the bill was almost as pleasurable as dining. Got bang for my buck. Cudos to the older gentleman who I think was the owner. He seemed like a very gracious host. Thank you.

I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere!
