beef noodle soup

Solid handmade noodles and fast service, this place really hits the spot! We were hungry and roaming Chinatown when thankfully we found this spot and quickly ordered some noodles - I had the beef noodle soup, which had plentiful meat and was very flavorful.

This place closes fairly late so we came here for some late night eats. We got half order of the potstickers, beef noodle soup and the wonton soup. The only thing that was good was the beef noodle soup. The noodles were thick and chewy and the broth was flavorful. It also came with a few pieces of bokchoy and some bean sprouts which I find weird to include for this dish. The filling for the won ton and the potstickers were pretty much the same. The meat inside didn't look appetizing and the skin was way too thick. I would not come back. Look for other late night places to eat.

Fried handmade noodles with beef

Much to my waistline's horror, there is nothing I like more than good hand made noodles. Therefore I had to give Chinatown Noodle King a try while walking around Darling Harbour and Chinatown. I came in late around 8:15 pm on a Monday night and was hoping to get back to the harbour for 9 pm holiday fireworks. Success! They have the little service buttons on the tables so you can call over the server to order or bring you the check right away. I was in and out in half an hour. I got the fried hand made noodles with beef. The dish was flavorful and most importantly, the noodles were delicious. They were hand pulled and thus perfectly imperfect. They were easy to slurp down and also had good chew. I left full and happy!

Exploring Sydney's Chinatown was a must-do for us visitors from New York. Craving for noodles, we found this little gem through Yelp. We arrived before the weekday lunch rush hour started swarming in, so around 11:30am. Uniquely when you enter, you can see them make the fresh hand made noodles. Bottom line, hit the spot as our expectations were met including that of our kids. Our kids are too young to have a hearty appetite, so my wife and I indulged a little more than we should have, but no regrets there. Overall, service was friendly, loved the food which was all tasty and came out quickly and the interior was nothing fancy, but certainly presentable. There was an additional fee for using a foreign credit card, but it was nominal. If only we had time to return and try their other dishes because we would.

The food was very authentic! We ordered the hot and sour soup, hand made noodles in seafood and beef, sizzling tofu, fried rice, eggplant dish, and braised pork bellly. I was all delicious! The staff was all very nice and accomodating! It was a little hard to communicate with them at first but we managed. I would definitely go back there again! I'm glad they had a table big enough to fit all 12 of us.

The best part of our meal was the bottled beer. The Mongolian beef was not cooked well, it was just soft and soggy in its sauce, which was overly sweet. It came out on a fajita platter sizzling, so truly impressive that it turned out as mushy as it did. There was a lot of potential for that dish to taste better. The stir fried noodles tasted like they had been cooked well at one point, but then frozen, reheated, and rinsed with water to remove any potential flavor that once existed. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, we were seated right in between two other occupied tables, which made it feel like we were all at one big dinner together instead of on our own separate date nights. The people working were very nice - just wish the food was better! This meal was one of our first meals in Sydney and made us really worried that all of our meals here would be overpriced and tasteless - thankfully, there are better options out there.

Close to Town Hall station, QVB and Darling Harbour. I've noticed this place many times walking past with its little fairy lights in its little side alleyway, the shop always full with Asian guests. We all know this looks good to us white guys lol. Finally stepped inside. So glad we did. The smell of good food, the sight of interesting dishes, the chatter of happy eaters, the varied patrons from 7-70, and a price list that made me feel like it was all going to be a bargain all added up to one thought. It's gonna be a good night!! I had already actually eaten before arriving but with the recommendations from a lovely young lady serving, our table had enough food to send my heart and stomach to a place beyond satisfaction. I wanted to keep eating even though I'd had more than enough. My lips were strangely buzzing, no the food wasn't too spicy for me...it just felt..good. The couple beside me put my meager efforts to shame. They feasted. I couldn't believe how much food could fit on their table. Not only that they were tiny. I envied them. My taste buds were dancing just observing their food and the pleasure they took slowly grazing the many dishes. We washed our food down with a pot of jasmin tea. They even offered to refill the hot water. Generous Gosh it was a good night. And a tradition I hope to establish. Settling the bill was almost as pleasurable as dining. Got bang for my buck. Cudos to the older gentleman who I think was the owner. He seemed like a very gracious host. Thank you.

Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

Our waitress was a super disappointed we came in right at opening: 9am and was muttering how inconvenient it was we decided to eat so early to her coworker in Cantonese not knowing we could understand her. We are used to big crowds and long lines by opening at our dim sum places so we came in early to beat the crowd. Kitchen took almost 45 mins to prepare our beef noodles and it was a total disappointment. Kitchen is super slow and did not have anything other than a few items by opening. We wanted egg custard to finish our meal and was informed it would take another hour before they would be ready. I guess things are cooked fresh on the day which is good but shouldn't it all be ready by the time you open? The little old ladies pushing the cart were very nice and polite. Ambiance is your typical big city Chinese place.

We also got shrimp and pork dumplings and one with Sichuan Mala flavor. For the sides we got some garlic stir fried veggies. I thought all the dumplings were okay in taste, flavor, and texture. I really was not a fan of the Sichuan Mala one. It was gamey in taste. It actually made me think I was eating lamb instead of pork. Veggies were standard. This is a place I can say I've tried but don't plan to try another one.

The fish was light and delicate with a side of wasabi mayo to dip! A must order if it is on the menu. The Wagyu massaman beef was tasty and tender. The only dish we thought wasn't up to scratch was the Masterstock pork belly, it was over done and very tough. But the Morten Bay bugs and the Sichuan chilli chicken wings was a winner! The dessert menu had some Asian choices, but I loved the hokey pokey parfait with charred Nashi pear, honeycomb pieces and finger limes. Delicious and yummy! The yuzu and lime creme brûlée with fennel soil and passionfruit was refreshing and light. To top off the meal, I finished with a 2017 Marian botrytis semillon. That alone was irritating, but what made it worse was the complete lack of communication between the host and waitstaff. I was later told one of the waitresses assumed I was waiting for a to-go order instead of simply asking me, which is incredibly frustrating and avoidable. Even after the confusion, I was still seated right next to the door instead of being properly placed inside the restaurant, which only added to the feeling of being brushed off and poorly handled. What made the situation stand out even more was how little accountability there seemed to be. The host and one waitress both apologized, and I was given a discount on my egg rolls, but no manager or anyone in a higher position came over to address the issue. I was even told the owner was present, and it was obvious he was aware of what happened, yet he never came over to acknowledge it or say anything. That part was honestly the most disappointing. To be fair, the food itself was excellent -- flavorful, hot, and served quickly -- but the poor service, lack of communication, and overall frustration of the experience overshadowed what could have otherwise been a great meal.
