Eggplant with special (magically delicious garlic and honey oil) sauce
Rebecca C.

Oh, Sea Bay, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. 1 - Only restaurant in Australia that seats people like sardines that I willfully return to time and time again and don't complain about. 2 - Dumplings are my favorite food group, and these are my favorite dumplings. 3 - Let you or themselves open the door when it gets steamy. 4 - Three words: B. Y. O. 5 - Rice. 6 - Noodles. 7 - Soup. 8 - Veg. 9 - Did I mention dumplings? 10 - BYO + Rice + Noodles + Soup + Veg + Dumplings = Love. Seriously though, nothing to be said that hasn't already been covered but want to emphasize how much I adore this place and what value for money it is. OH. And they take reservations. A rarity in this city, and a life saver on certain nights of the week.

Steamed dumplings

Ignore the fact that there's an adult bookshop next to this place because this place gets you the best dumplings for your money. AND HOW. If you're ever craving dumplings of all kinds (except soup dumplings) you cannot go wrong here. $10.80 for 12 dumplings that can be boiled, fried, steamed, and stuffed into your hungry mouth. These dumplings aren't small either,. You might think to yourself that you could polish off 12 dumplings easily with room to spare so you'll order 24, but once you see the portions you will resign yourself to an afternoon/evening of bellyaches for stuffing your stomach silly with dumplings. This place is also BYO, and the servers here know you came for the dumplings because they give you chilli sauce with no questions asked. How could you not like this place?

Deep fried pork chop

Going for Chinese food for lunch with some colleges, sea bay dumpling, pan fried, was awesome, and as usual we ordered deep fried eggplant. Salt and pepper deep fried pork also beautiful

Chicken soup with handmade noodles

I had never been a fan of trying new foods however, a friend of mine began taking us to try new things. See Bay was his suggestion for our Chinese experiment. The dumplings are phenomenal and my wife absolutely loves the chicken soup with handmade noodles. For me though, nothing goes past the lamb and shallots. The price is great the atmosphere lacks pretension. My kinda place! I underestimated the popularity of this place it's a Tuesday night this place is packed! Now to pluck up the courage and try other things from the menu, I'm sure I won't be disappointed!

"We absolutely must go for lunch together ASAP!" a friend gushed of the cheap 'n' cheerful Chinese diner she'd stumbled upon during a meal break in the CBD. Indeed we pencilled in our future catch up, but the temptation of well-priced, handmade dumplings just metres from my own office was too much to restrain myself until the following week. I caved, and cajoled a colleague into testing out their goods with me the next day. Sea Bay is the definition of no-frills dining. The mirror-walled dining is adorned only with basic table and chair sets, while speedy waitresses scribble orders on pre-written bills ready to take up to the counter when the meal is over. As promised, just one order of the steaming baskets of vegetable and pork dumplings were indeed brimming with goods - so much so we needed a takeaway container later on - along with a generously sized stir-fry of deep-fried tofu, eggplant and capsicum in 'special sauce' (don't ask, just taste) was more than enough for two people. The total came in at about $10 per person, and our doggy bag meant we had lunch ready for the next day. My ad hoc visit was evident upon a later catch-up with my aforementioned friend, my shifty eyes the immediate giveaway to the sneaky site reccy. Was I ashamed of this culinary faux pas? Sure, but the satiety provided by those delicious meaty bundles was enough to numb my bad conscience in the meantime.

Best dish! Lamb with shallots

I love sea bay. The price is as awesome as the food. The place is always busy, so it is slow to get served. But when you do, it is completely worth it. The lamb with shallots is amazing, and of course the dumplings. I eat here all the time. But you must book of you want a table and not to wait.

This is the place to go for dumplings. Especially if you can't get into Din Tai Fung across the road. Both the steamed and fried dumplings are yummy and to be eaten with vinegar. The soup inside the steamed ones are so delicious. The shallot pancake is good too. I hear the noodles are good so I might try that next time. Atmosphere? There is none :p This is almost street hawker style so you eat then go. No hanging around, even with the renovations. The oldies will remember the old Sea Bay when it was even worse. I used to come here when I had cravings for dumplings served quick smart. But now Din Tai Fung has a takeaway in Westfield. Hmmmm.....

A cheap restaurant on pitt street towards china town. Notorious for its popularity, and cheap price. Considering it wasn't busy, service was slow and non chalant. They even turned the lights out suggesting they were closing. It was 9:30. Basic tables, cash only, easy for a quick dinner. It has a range of soups and noodles, eggs, and dumplings. We ordered the dumplings; half serve of vegetables and pork dumplings. They were ok, nothing to write home about, but satisfied the hunger.
