    Dim sum was good.
    Stacy K.

We are from the United States, came cuz husband wanted to try Aussie Dim sum. 1) service was good from all the cart ladies. 2) steam squid is good. 3) duck feet was not as good as USA 4) 7 items is $106 aud.. for USA this is pricey. Was a ok / good experience.. BAD experience Dim sum means lots of tea.. enjoy tea as much as eating the dim sum. This guy maybe head of the servers was rude, a lady was refilling the tea hot water.. this guy YELLed at her in front of us in Chinese " go do tea for the new customers, don't do useless stuff" This means we are done and not a customers.. Do come but beware of the verbal abuse to you and the ladies.. the ladies say he is like this don't let him bother u... which makes me even more mad. i enjoy my tea and will not be bully to leave lol

Chaos!!! We wanted lunch. Specifically dumplings. We'd walked all over the market and eventually stumbled on The Eight, located on the 3rd floor. There was a fast moving line and a huge dining room packed with people and dim sum carts, so we had to stop. It was a busy weekend - so busy that the host will tell you to look for the guy with air traffic control sticks to get to your table (not kidding). Before your butt hits your seat the carts will be coming for you - every kind of dumpling, bun, cake and yum cha favorite will be headed your way. Seriously - I bet a cart came by every 2 minutes. Most of the staff and patrons are native Chinese speakers so just point at what looks good. I am pretty sure we had prawn dumplings (good), beef meatballs (good), spring rolls (just ok), sui Mai (my favorite - so, so, so good) and some kind of pork/veg dimpling with corn and other tasty things. The last two were my favorites by far. Every time they drop a dish, the mark your card and at the end it's totaled up for you. All the dumplings we could eat and a couple of beers ended up being really quite cheap. And we really enjoyed an authentic experience as most places just have you order off a sheet and bring items from the kitchen. Loud, chaotic, lots of fun!

Sooooooo disappointed with all the Cantonese style restaurants failing on every level China mainlanders money is definitely taking over. They are only interested in you if you order their seafood and don't mind forking out the prices. Good business if that's what you do. But there are some ppl like me out there who know better and know when they try and rip you off. Then bc we don't order the seafood dishes, the service level falls below zero Lucky I had the best company so the food was bearable due to that. Not recommended at all.

The Eight is the typical Yum Cha place: Yummy food with The Zero service. Please wait to be seated and they really meant it. Wait as in ignored, stood there for like five minutes before getting some form of ungrateful grimace. Once you get seated, it's another story, the food was fresh and the fried food were still warm even after being pushed around which is always a good sign. No complaints about the food. Everything was seasoned and nothing was overcooked. I'll let the photos speak for this one. Conclusion You really only pay for the food at this place, it's above average but if you're treated like dirt as you step in, the food has to be really exceptional to come back to. Funny thing is, the people earning the least i.e. people pushing the trolley are the friendliest of the lot. If it's a big group and you couldn't care less about the sloppy service it might be actually acceptable to dine here. Don't feel bad if you don't tip.

Very tasty dim sum served here. Staffs are very courteous and professional. I think this place is one the best yum cha place in Sydney Chinatown. The restaurant space is very large for groups and individuals customers here. I will comeback to this place again for lunch.

Maybe after hearing all the rave about this place, I was all hyped up but I used my eyes & tastebuds to be its own judge. We decided we wanted yum Cha & brunch sounded like a great idea. We arrived just before 11. Was a great choice as it was nice & quiet, all the ladies with the steam carts were fussing over serving us. They were offering all the steaming hot dumplings, buns & all the wonderful assortment of steamed goodness. We ordered a variety of dim sums to try. Nothing fancy except the pig's blood(which is normally not available elsewhere). The egg tarts & the chives dumplings stood out for me, they were tasty & were the best live tasted. The rest were ordinary. Missing star 1. The BBQ buns(could have been the star of yum Cha along side Siew Mai) let me down. The Siew Mai's skin were all sticking to one another & when it's served it isn't the greatest look. No excuse even when it's cold. The BBQ pork buns was great on the inside but the surface of the bun is a bit dry. I had to peel off the outer layer. Missing star 2. The lady at the next table had a table full of food by herself & when she left, there was a tiny little mess. Guess what? The waiter ignored the crumbs, placed the new setting on it & its waiting to serve the customers that sits there. Well, first it's not really hygienic. Second, if they wanna put tablecloths, then it's best they change it after each customer.

Parting shot.... Don't go for Sunday lunch if to are looking for somewhere quiet.
    Sam M.

We had Sunday lunch there. It was kind of a mad house. There was a line to get in but we were seated with dumplings in front of us within 10 minutes. Of probably 500 diners we were probably 10-15 non Asians. That's a good sign in my book. Don't over order as saying yes can get expensive as all the food comes by.

One of the best yum cha places I've ever been to although a little on the pricier side. The three of us are here and it was $98 no drinks. Their prawn dumplings and Tao fu fa are exceptionally good I think. Generous servings of prawns and pastry is delicious. Most things come in 3 or 4 servings. Their a bit pushy with their service and even after I've put 8 dishes on the table and wanting to eat them all before choosing more the same lady harassed me a couple of times and then later ignored me when I wanted something. If the service was better it would get 5 stars because it's in a great location, food has always been delicious and generous in sizing.

This is the forth time ive been here and i love the kaos and crazy atmosphere as mych as i adore the food. Its fast fresh and deliciously good. Today did not disappoint me. Creamy pork tasting deep fried taro yum and ginger dumplings that glude down your throat into the bottomless pit called my stomach. Fried green beans wirh pork and gai lan in oyster sauce is a must if you delude yourself into thinking your healthy! Bbq pork cheong yummmy and the best was deep fried sesame prawn rolls were a standout. I missed out on a few faves har gow cheong fun and bbq pork but was happy with my duck pancakes. A few more dishes we had were vege dumplings very tasty and a few kore i cant remember. All up 150 bux for 5 of us and drinks it was a great yum cha ince again! Plus free parking with my stamp from ty he restaurant yay.

I get that numerology is big with Chinese people and that eight is very lucky. I still think its an odd name to the western ear. 'The Eight Modern Chinese Restaurant' But there's only one? What if they want to franchise it, would it be 'Another Eight Restaurant'? 'That New Eight Place' ? What about the French version 'L'Huit Restaurant Chinois Moderne'? I eventually found it after an eight minute search. Its in an arcade in Chinatown near Paddys on top of market city. About eight waiters pounced on me and sat me at table eight. I ordered eight prawn and mushroom dumplings (think I'm making this up? - I took a photo, and I think I was at table eight). The food is good, I also had a snow pea dumpling and prawn har gow, four of each making eight. All good , but I have to say not great. Just good, which is to say, not greight. I think I eight too much and I now need a nap - can someone wake me at about eight?. It would have been nearly a five star place but for three dishes the bill was $30 and I thought that was a bit steep. Call me ungreightful but Mr Wong is worth that, Eight really isn't.

The best part of our meal was the bottled beer. The Mongolian beef was not cooked well, it was just soft and soggy in its sauce, which was overly sweet. It came out on a fajita platter sizzling, so truly impressive that it turned out as mushy as it did. There was a lot of potential for that dish to taste better. The stir fried noodles tasted like they had been cooked well at one point, but then frozen, reheated, and rinsed with water to remove any potential flavor that once existed. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, we were seated right in between two other occupied tables, which made it feel like we were all at one big dinner together instead of on our own separate date nights. The people working were very nice - just wish the food was better! This meal was one of our first meals in Sydney and made us really worried that all of our meals here would be overpriced and tasteless - thankfully, there are better options out there.

Close to Town Hall station, QVB and Darling Harbour. I've noticed this place many times walking past with its little fairy lights in its little side alleyway, the shop always full with Asian guests. We all know this looks good to us white guys lol. Finally stepped inside. So glad we did. The smell of good food, the sight of interesting dishes, the chatter of happy eaters, the varied patrons from 7-70, and a price list that made me feel like it was all going to be a bargain all added up to one thought. It's gonna be a good night!! I had already actually eaten before arriving but with the recommendations from a lovely young lady serving, our table had enough food to send my heart and stomach to a place beyond satisfaction. I wanted to keep eating even though I'd had more than enough. My lips were strangely buzzing, no the food wasn't too spicy for me...it just felt..good. The couple beside me put my meager efforts to shame. They feasted. I couldn't believe how much food could fit on their table. Not only that they were tiny. I envied them. My taste buds were dancing just observing their food and the pleasure they took slowly grazing the many dishes. We washed our food down with a pot of jasmin tea. They even offered to refill the hot water. Generous Gosh it was a good night. And a tradition I hope to establish. Settling the bill was almost as pleasurable as dining. Got bang for my buck. Cudos to the older gentleman who I think was the owner. He seemed like a very gracious host. Thank you.

Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

Even after the confusion, I was still seated right next to the door instead of being properly placed inside the restaurant, which only added to the feeling of being brushed off and poorly handled.
