This was one of those restaurants where it's hard NOT to play with your food. They had the funniest shaped buns and desserts, that my family and I couldn't help but mess around with our food. To be honest the food wasn't that great, but it was better than Panda Express in San Francisco, if you know what I mean. I remember this place being pretty expensive, but it was also hard for me as a tourist to find Asian food in Australia.

Very aesthetic restaurant with bright, contrasting colours. Perfect for those with a "camera eats first" mentality. The cocktails are pretty, but lacking in taste. The food was really good, but became too salty the more we ate. What we ordered: -Duck Roti -Soft Shell Crab -Peking Duck (half) -Australian Wagyu Pepper Beef -Pan Fried Roast Pork Buns -Lobster Longevity Noodles -Dan Dan Noodle Soup Overall, the food was great. Our favorites were the roast pork buns, lobster noodles, and the fried chicken cutlet that comes with the dan dan noodles. Service was a bit slow, but it seems they were just understaffed that day as it was a holiday. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!

If anything could remind me of the food paradise of Hong Kong (and the bajillion years since I last visited), this place would probably take the award to being the closest. I was super excited to try this place out. I had bookmarked this place, thinking this would be the place that'd Hong Kong. The entrance is really weird; at first, I went in through the door at the shopping center and was told the main entrance is the street entrance. They made me go back out and go in through the street entrance, when all it could take was a walk across the restaurant. Seriously?! It was extremely busy, especially for a Wednesday night. Since it was just my mother and I, we were seated at the edge by the kitchen, where you can see where all the magic happens. The menu is extensive; there's an interesting fusion of South Asian flavors and they seem to present their food beautifully through nice photographs, but that is about it. Lamb Roti: Very oily, spicy, and saturated with too much flavoring/powder. The roll broke apart easily and the meat didn't taste too fresh. This was just overall very disappointing. The party next to us also ordered this and they did not finish this. Fried Egg and Spinach Tofu: Didn't really taste the difference between this and the regular fried tofu at your typical, run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant, other than a layer of seaweed was served on top. Softshell Crab: Probably my favorite of the entire meal. A lot of flavors going on and the fried batter was so delicious, I continued to eat the scraps after we finished the softshell crab! For drinks, I had the Lychee Mint Juice. It was okay, but it was too iced up, you'd think there'd be juice as pictured. My mother had the Globe amaranth and jasmine tea bulb and said there was nothing special--the flowers were mostly just for show. The presentation is great, but taste-wise, it is average at best for pricey food. I'm being generous with three stars, when the food, at best, is really worth two star. I had a great seat, watching food being made on the stoves and steamers. One disturbing moment I witnessed was watching the enraged manager scream at one of the workers for trying to take a quick break in the kitchen and catching a quick bite. Obviously, I couldn't hear anything behind the glass, but it was clear what was going on and extremely hard to watch. I really hope this review will bring some light for the employees and their break hours.

BBQ Delights Rice Lunch Set

Good food and you can watch them prepare it in the glassed in kitchen. Lunch special is pretty good though a separate menu that was on the table. For some reason I thought from the picture on the outside of the restaurant you would get a bunch of small dishes but you actually have to choose an entree. Good bang for the buck.

Chefs Gallery is well known for producing great Chinese food. They have numerous locations due to the quality if their product. We visited their Town Hall site. A large restaurant situalted in Regent Place, with an open kitchen catering to the masses, with the staff easily servicing the restaurant without too much fuss. The menu is a book of excitement with dim sum, hand made noodles, stirfries and desserts. The drinks menu also has a number of interesting options including the lychee and mint ice crush and also some infused hot teas. Foodwise, we were torn by choice, wanting to order almost everything on the menu. Instead we limited ourselves to some key options of fresh noodles and interesting flavours we hadn't tried before. We ordered a variety of meals from each section of the menu. To start, we couldn't go past the light flaky roti and the prawn har gau dumplings - wonderful transparent pockets filled with goodness. You can certainly tell how fresh they are from first bite. We of course had to order the noodles, made in house and went with their prawn and pork combination wonton and noodles. Pretty spicy but great flavour! We are also fans of the flavour known as numb, a strange sour like metallic taste which comes from the szechaun pepper. When we spotted the numb chicken on the menu we had to order this. An intriguing dish to try if you enjoy spice; combining chicken, vegetables, cashews, chilli and the flavour explosion from the numb sauce. Make sure you save room for dessert. The desserts at chefs gallery are always fun. Whether it be a farm scene, fairies and unicorn in the clouds or an emoticon custard bun, which is what we got this time . Remember when your parents would tell you not to play with your food, forget that. We had the custard bun, knowing we could have fun by poking a hole in the mouth and giving it a squeeze to have some custard spew out. This was not only fun, it was tasty too. Thanks to Chef's Gallery for their hospitality and for the invitation from Matt at Cardinal Spin. We recommend a visit to Chefs Gallery for an enjoyable and tasty experience.

Prawn and pork wonton noodle dish

Had a wonderful meal here. Came here at 5:30 right when it opened. My friend and I were slightly overwhelmed by the extensive menu. I knew though I had to get noodles after seeing noodles being freshly made. I ordered the pan fried lamb cutlets and prawn and pork wonton noodle dish. My friend had the classic wok fried rice and pan fried pork and cabbage pot stickers. The food came out pretty quickly. My noodle dish was huge with five wontons and plenty of noodles. The shanghainese sauce was amazing with lots of flavor. It had some spice with out it overpowering the dish. The lamb cutlets were my favorite dish of the night. I highly recommend for anyone who likes lamb. They were cooked perfectly and so tender. The lemongrass, fried garlic and shallots added a nice crunch. My friend enjoyed her fried rice and the potstickers were humongous. For dessert, we both had an egg custard bun. They are imprinted with emojis, which just made them too cute! The buns were nice and soft and had a sweet custard inside. Overall, a fantastic meal. I would happily go back to chef's gallery and try new dishes!

Black sesame piggy dessert buns!

My friend and I took this place apart. I'm talking, we went completely Michael Bay. There was shattered furniture and broken chefs lying amidst the smoking ruins in the aftermath of the eating binge we wrought upon Chefs Gallery. A trembling woman peeked out from beneath an upturned table, wondering if it was safe to come out yet. As far as Asian food goes, this is up there. Way, way up there. The menu reads like a fat kid's Christmas list. Legions of dumplings, dan dan noodles, soft rotis, seafood, inventive vegetarian dishes. You name it, they got it. Plus there's the gold-trimmed, ever-changing seasonal menu. We hit both. Hard. And waddled out of that place with our belts undone and a mix of soy, black vinegar and chilli oil dribbling down our chins and into at least one of our beards. Here's the casualty list: - King prawns coated in salted duck's egg yolk ($34.90) - Mixed dim sim sampling platter with cold cucumber salad ($19.90) - Trilium prawn dumplings topped with three kinds of caviar ($16.90) - Tataki wagyu beef with Sichuan style dressing ($15.90) - Prawn & pork wontons in Shanghainese spicy sauce ($8.90) - Fluffy Chinese roti with pork floss ($8.90) - Wok fried green beans with minced pork ($14.90) - Steamed sesame piggy face buns ($7.90) Stand back, folks. Nothing to see here. I'm lying there totally is, we shall be worshiped as conquering heroes upon return to our respective villages! Huzzah!

BBQ Pork Buns and Prawn Dumplings

I made a reservation for 11:30 AM on a Saturday for a party of two and we were the first people to arrive for lunch. It seems like this place starts getting busy at noon because we were the only people in the restaurant for awhile. My partner and I had seen this place the night before when we were walking back to our hotel and it looked pretty cool from the outside due to the lighting, also it was absolutely packed. As a fan of dim sum I was surprised to learn there was such a thing as dim sim, it's an Aussie thing I guess because they use lamb and thicker casings for the dumplings as opposed to the more traditional dim sum. It seems like the menu has changed a whole bunch since my visit a few months ago but there are some things we did order that are still included on the new menu. We ordered BBQ Pork Buns (2), Prawn Dumplings (4), Spinach Noodles wok fried w/ Prawn Roe and one order of steamed rice and for dessert we had the Pancakes filled with fresh cream and banana. Everything was cooked to perfection; flavorful, soft and not oily like most dumplings and noodles I've usually had. I would definitely get the noodles without prawn roe next time because I didn't like the crunch of it, but that is just due to my preference in texture. All I have to say is this food is ABSOLUTELY amazing and it's great if you have a view of all the chefs cooking, I even saw one of them actually tasting some of the food! I was so impressed because I've been to a handful of restaurants where you are in view of the kitchen and never had I see any of the chefs actually try what they were putting out. As far as service goes I've seen better, much better. All the servers were so busy that they constantly overlooked my table and the ones around us. The table next to us ordered noodle dishes at the same time and got them a good 10 minutes apart, it was actually pretty hilarious to hear their reactions to that and I sympathized greatly with them. It took us 15 minutes to flag down a server when we needed another drink, seems like they all just look forward and avoid all eye contact with the people dining. The food and the food alone is what makes this place amazing! The presentation is by far the best I've seen as far as dumplings and shumai go and everything is reasonably priced. The service can be overlooked in my opinion simply because the food is just too delicious.

My husband and I passed this place on my first visit to Sydney cuz of cost, but a good friend invited us this year, so we thought it would be worth the splurge for us Americans (the exchange rate helped!). Second only to Petaling Street, this was one of the best Asian meals of our trip. The homemade noodles themselves are fine (wheat noodles are generally pretty boring in my book), but combined with the beef brisket, rocket and pickled radish, I was just floored by the wok hay (shame on me for focusing on sushi). If the meat was cook longer, it would have been perfect. Or friend recommended the duck rolled in roti (nice, really big mouthfuls for me), dumplings in chili oil (nice!), sliders (tasty with mayo, cabbage and pork (?), but not my style). The mango lychee juice had the consistency of a daiquiri - very tasty. The best part was the piggy and chick buns. We were so engrossed in talking that we didn't pay full attention why these are popular. If you give the little chicky a squeeze, it spits up sweet custard cream. So Asian We didn't figure out if the piggy was as interactive (we split each one in half), but I think it would have be more disturbing - it was filled with tasty black sesame paste.

Strawberry Delight - Delicious

I'm a total foodie. That said, I can't believe this place was not on my list of places. I stumbled upon this place on my way to dine at MissChu. When I saw the huge line of people and constant flow both in & out, I knew this place had to be good. There were also various accolades posted in the window that confirmed my intuition; "People Love Us On Yelp" being one of them. I placed my name on the wait list, tore off a number, and waited a short 20 minutes or so. I was seated just in front of the chefs window, which was pretty neat. It was fun watching the chefs make fresh noodles and various other popular dishes. Service was quite awful, but I've learned this to be true of most of my dining experiences in Sydney. When you're seated, don't expect a server to come and greet you or ask for your order. My table mates and I had to flag down a server in order to receive assistance. This place is super busy and, while you'll see servers constantly running around, they never quite stop to service you. And, forget about getting refills on water, beverages, etc. I did not particularly enjoy this rat race of an experience. Especially, given this restaurant has received such high accolades - National best Asian Food Award, etc. However, after the wonderful food experience, the bad service became a distant memory. The food was AMAZING. I ordered: Strawberry Delight - a delicious beverage made of strawberry purée, muddled strawberries, and soda. Just wonderful Spicy Prawn Dumpling - Not too spicy. Wonderful to dip in the sweet & spicy chili sauce. Spicy Prawn Noodles - Good, but tad sweeter than expected. Next time I'll opt for the spicy beef/lamb dish served with spinach noodles. It looked divine. This food here is pretty awesome. Because of this I will definitely return.

Mushroom mixed noodles

It's a great concept for semi-upscale noodle place. It's like the Tin Tai Feng of noodles in town. The dishes are meant to be an unique spin off of all the traditional Chinese noodle dishes ( a mix of northern, southern & Taiwanese styles). Most of the dishes are quiet creative and delicious. The ingredients seemed to be well selected. The noodles are handmade in the glass covered kitchen, so you can see your food being made. The dumplings and appetizers are well made, and even some of my picky eating young guests liked them. Some of my favorites are actually the rice dishes. However, each location varies a slightly in service and presentation quality(I think due to how busy they are). I have gone to another Chefs Gallery in smaller suburbs and found it to be better. Maybe because this location is busy, some of the dishes seemed to be a bit off. If you are a true traditionalist for Northern Chinese noodles, this place may not be the place to be and it's a bit pricy. But this is definitely a good place for a nice sit down meal for some delicious noodles and other dishes. My guests all seemed to enjoy the dishes without any leftovers.

Ok, this place has redeemed itself. I reluctantly agreed to go back and give this place another try after my friend kept going on and on about how great it is. I wasn't upset just disappointed with my experience last time. But I'm a big believer in second chances so went back for a second visit. New menu. New staff. Good service. Great experience. Loved everything we ordered and can't wait to go back. Well done Chefs Gallery.

Food - alright. Not the best, but not bad. I feel like the food here is not as authentic as many other Chinese restaurants in the area. Service - they greet you when you enter. service is decent for a Chinese restaurant. One friendly thing for people that isn't familiar with Chinese food, their entire menu is full with pictures. The restaurant is also very clean Will I come back? Yes, because it's clean and good service. One thing to note: they have special offer with the entertainment book for 25% off and Citibank for a free bottle of wine if u spend $50 dollar or more!

The best part of our meal was the bottled beer. The Mongolian beef was not cooked well, it was just soft and soggy in its sauce, which was overly sweet. It came out on a fajita platter sizzling, so truly impressive that it turned out as mushy as it did. There was a lot of potential for that dish to taste better. The stir fried noodles tasted like they had been cooked well at one point, but then frozen, reheated, and rinsed with water to remove any potential flavor that once existed. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived, we were seated right in between two other occupied tables, which made it feel like we were all at one big dinner together instead of on our own separate date nights. The people working were very nice - just wish the food was better! This meal was one of our first meals in Sydney and made us really worried that all of our meals here would be overpriced and tasteless - thankfully, there are better options out there.

Close to Town Hall station, QVB and Darling Harbour. I've noticed this place many times walking past with its little fairy lights in its little side alleyway, the shop always full with Asian guests. The smell of good food, the sight of interesting dishes, the chatter of happy eaters, the varied patrons from 7-70, and a price list that made me feel like it was all going to be a bargain all added up to one thought. It's gonna be a good night!! I had already actually eaten before arriving but with the recommendations from a lovely young lady serving, our table had enough food to send my heart and stomach to a place beyond satisfaction. I wanted to keep eating even though I'd had more than enough. My lips were strangely buzzing, no the food wasn't too spicy for me...it just felt..good. The couple beside me put my meager efforts to shame. They feasted. I couldn't believe how much food could fit on their table. Not only that they were tiny. I envied them. My taste buds were dancing just observing their food and the pleasure they took slowly grazing the many dishes. We washed our food down with a pot of jasmin tea. They even offered to refill the hot water. Generous Gosh it was a good night. And a tradition I hope to establish. Settling the bill was almost as pleasurable as dining. Got bang for my buck. Cudos to the older gentleman who I think was the owner. He seemed like a very gracious host. Thank you.

I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. That alone was irritating, but what made it worse was the complete lack of communication between the host and waitstaff. I was later told one of the waitresses assumed I was waiting for a to-go order instead of simply asking me, which is incredibly frustrating and avoidable. Even after the confusion, I was still seated right next to the door instead of being properly placed inside the restaurant, which only added to the feeling of being brushed off and poorly handled.
