The only ramen I like. Can't eat it in any other country I've tried! Got to come here at just the right time for the tonkastu ramen. If you come too early it wont be ready yet. If you come too late it will be sold out. There is always a "queue" here. Sign your name on the list. Option to share a table with strangers. Worth it if you aren't willing to wait so long and don't mind strangers listening in on your conversations. The pork is so tender and nearly melts in your mouth! I don't know what is in their soup but it is ADDICTING. makes you crave it. I could eat it 3 times a week!
One of my personal favourite for Ramen and Dons. One of my personal custom order: Ebi-don with Unagi taster. I find it extremely satisfying to have the unagi tasters and throw it on top of the Ebi-don. The sauce from the Unagi taster really compliments extremely well with the soft rice and egg in the Ebi-don. Not only that but it also boosts the texture and flavour offered from the prawns bringing an extremely sweet note to the dish. This along with the portion of sour pickled veggies to cut through the fatty and sweetness of the grilled unagi. For me there is no better combination. Please read my blog for a more detailed review!
Let me preface that this review is for the food court location in the basement Miso ramen takeaway!! $8 Lunch has pretty long lines but for that price you'll wait. My noodles were still perfect after I got my soup back to the office. I wish however that there had been a little more broth. I'm pro broth Colleague got the chicken katsu-don who mentioned that it was done just right. Cash and minimum $10 eptos Will certainly visit again.
Best ramen there is so far, since i've been to the city. Food is delicious, you may be waiting outside for a little while but its definitely worth it. Would recommend to go around 12-1230pm as it gets extremely busy after that- or even earlier to avoid any lines. Definitely deserves the 5 stars, portions are good for the price and service is really good. I tend to go each time i spend the day in Kinokuniya (even bigger bonus because its right next door). Would certainly recommend this place if you're in for some good ramen!!
*** Update: removing my previous title of best ramen in Sydney, as since the original review numerous great ramen locations have become established. Ichi-ban Boshi is what I consider to be one of the iconic Ramen locations in Sydney. It's been around for ages and is a known entity... you know what you get, and can expect good food. Located on the top floor of the TGV (The Galeries Victoria), this restaurant is situated directly opposite the iconic Kinokuniya Bookstore. You cannot book, you have to take a number and wait for a table. This can be problematic during popular dining times as you can wait 10-40 minutes for a table. If you are hungry, consider sharing a table as you will get seated quicker than if you aren't sharing. Also if you are a group bigger than 4 people, you will have to wait a bit longer than other patrons as most of their tables seat 1-4 people. I'm in love with their Kaarage Ramen - I order it every time since I first went here. Other popular items are their Gyoza (which I vote are best in Sydney also), Tantanmen ramen and Kaarage. This is one of the few places I crave to eat at once I get back from travelling overseas. Once you order, you'll be given a table number tablet - take it over to the counter and pay when you are done. This restaurant is CASH ONLY (Atm is located on the lower levels of TGV).

You've browsed a few books at Kinokuniya and you're hankering for some food...so where do you go? Ichiban Boshi, naturally. This place is located in the top floor of The Galeries Victoria and there always seems to be a queue. However, the queue moves rather quickly so you won't have to wait long. Ichiban Boshi offers simple Japanese food at affordable prices. Service is prompt too. You can get what you'd expect at any restaurant sans great sushi. Ramen, gyoza, katsu don and so on this place has it...and you can leave feeling satisfied spending less than $15. The rice dishes typically come with miso soup, but I normally come here for the ramen since I feel that's what they do the best here. The noodles are tasty and there are several ramen flavours to choose from, but I normally go with Chashu. The broth is OK, a little watery for my taste but it does the job. Great place for lunch, or a casual dinner. Definitely one of the better ramen joints in the city.
This place serves some of the best piping hot bowls of ramen you will find in Sydney. The chicken karaage ramen has the perfect balance of salty broth and caramelised sweet chicken pieces. Silky smooth agedashi tofu is a must try, which comes with a lovely layer of ginger and green onions to accent. And the gyoza are some of the best I have had. Also must try the spicey beef ramen, which has top quality thinly sliced wagu that melts in the mouth. Oh, and although they were sold out this time, I can vouch for the Tonkotsu Ramen as well... with its creamy, porky, cloudy broth and thick noodles.
From the outside it doesn't look like too appealing but after trying a bowl of their Ramen you will be wanting to go back for a second serving!! The menu is not huge but has a great selection of Ramen flavours including miso, soy, and salt. I had the vegetable miso and it was delicious!! They also have side items such as gyoza and salads. If you go around lunch time expect about a 30 min wait for your table. Would recommend and go back again!
Was alright - probably needs to up its game given Gumshara has its specialty thick pork bone soup (love it or hate it) and its tasty full ribs, Menya has its array of choices of ramen and other dishes, Ikyu has its great al-dente noodles and glazed chashu and Ippudo has its glamorous bar and bigger choice of tonkotsu soup flavours. They need to work a little more on flavours or topping size, at least one of them.
Ate here with some friends for the first time.. and I must say, I can see why they have lines for this place... I had the chicken egg rice Food quality was Great Price was excellent (great for taking a girl on a first date if you don't wanna break the bank) Service was just ok, but I don't expect much, cause the food is inexpensive. Would come back again. Showtime

I had a taste for ramen while staying nearby during my first trip to Australia. This was a great choice! After reading reviews, I went with the Tan-Tan Tsukemen, which are the Tan-Tan soup with cold noodles on the side. The flavor was great and I finished my meal. Wish I could go back and try other dishes! read more
I'll admit that Ichiban Boshi was not on the top of my list of ramen places to try while I was staying near CBD area--I would have liked to try Ryo and/or Menya first (did my research beforehand, as any diehard ramen fan would do--yup, I just called myself that!). Out of convenience, however, one day we moseyed on over to the Galleries for a late lunch and got our noodle on here. Seems there's a line during the lunch hour, but because we got there around 3 in the afternoon, we fortunately didn't have to wait long. From the looks of the menu, I wasn't expecting much. In addition to a large selection of ramen, there was also a variety of donburi, curry, and udon--in my experience, the ramen tends to be better at places with a smaller menu, since it typically means they specialize on a certain dish and have potentially perfected it. I decided on the tantanmen, a ramen with a spicy sesame seed-based broth. I like tantanmen, but I don't order it often because it is hard to get right. It looked good though, so I took the gamble. Let's just say, I think I made the right choice--I liked it a lot. The broth was really flavorful, not watery or grainy like some other tantanmen I've tried. The garnishes--ground pork, scallions, bean sprouts, and a soft-boiled egg (also done right, points for that)--did not stand out much, but were fine. The noodles were a bit soft for my liking. And for some reason the soup came out piping hot, so much that I had to let it cool a bit before getting down and dirty--that usually doesn't happen to me, so they must really boil their soup a lot here? I also tried my partner's tsukemen tantanmen (same thing but the noodles are served cold and on the side in order to dip, plus there is less broth and it is more highly concentrated). It. Was. AMAZEBALLS. The tasty tantan broth was even richer in concentrated form, and the noodles were a firmer consistency when served on the side. I immediately wished I had ordered it instead of my hot tantanmen. I still recommend them both. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. If I lived or worked nearby, I'd most likely come here once a week (on the off hours to avoid the line though). read more

Popped in here by chance after visiting Kinokuya. Thus it was a chance find. The place has a no frills diner feel. Ordered the Tokyo ramen, which according with the menu is great with gyoza on the side. The ramen is the cheapest I have seen. The gyoza were great and not soggy like I have found in many places. I particularly like the touch made with the garnish and that they were served in a small pool of soy sauce. The ramen was great and better than most places I have tried in Sydney. The noodles were firm and full of the flavour of the salty broth. They tasted better and better the longer they were in the broth. The broth was light and tasty. The broth was not thick and the way I like it. You could taste it was made from chicken stock. The toppings were spring onions, egg, seaweed, and the other usual suspects. Some chicken was present. The broth tasted better with the spring onions. Overall it is a great meal for a cheap price. read more

Up on the second level of the Galeries Victoria next to Kinokuniya, is a great authentic Japanese restaurant, serving locals and visitors alike incredibly tasty and reasonably priced feasts. On a friday night the queue took about half an hour to get through, and find the 4 of us a table - you know that if it's busy, there's a good reason for that. A good little system allows you to write your name down, the amount of people you need to seat, and if you're willing to share a table. Cute. Once we were seated, the service with polite and quick, with options to make speciality changes to the meals - my friend regretted ordering extra spicy. I ordered the Toyko Ramen which was very tasty, and not spicy at all. Although I would have preferred more meat in it, I will consider expanding my choices next time I go. I liked the fact that not only the meals were reasonable at around $10 each, but the drinks weren't expensive either, with a Saporo at $6. read more
This place always has a big line whether you come for lunch or dinner so be prepared to wait a bit before your seated. I have been here a few times and to be honest it can be quite hit and miss. Sometimes I have been amazed and then other times I have left questioning the place. The good thing about this place is that the menu offers a variety of options to cater for most Japanese food options. The prices are what I would consider relatively cheap compared to other Japanese options you find around the city. This time around I ordered the Ramen which wasn't really worth talking about too much. It didn't have a whole lot of flavour. I ended up adding a lot of chilli powder to enhance the taste. Another complaint was there was little to no meat in it. Literally after my first two bites all I was left with was noodles and a few scarce vegetables here and there. I wasn't a happy man after that feed. Maybe it was just an off day because other times it's been better so will try again and see if it can improve. read more

This little joint might not get a lot of points for ambiance, but it certainly wins in deliciousness and value. I went with a few friends on a Wednesday night and got right in without having to queue, although we were seated at the "sharing table." We ordered some beers and gyoza to start, which were crispy and delicious (the gyoza, not the beer). As a main, I ordered the salmon-don, which was a bowl of rice topped with salmon sashimi, cucumber, seaweed and pickled ginger ($13). Much to my liking, my meal was also served with a complimentary tiny bowl of miso soup and an even tinier green salad (we're talkin' fit for a doll house). No one else got these complimentary dishes with their meal so I chocked it up to the fact that I was the prettiest (jokes). I have to say, my salmon sashimi was incredibly tender, buttery and fresh. Possibly the best I've tasted in quite a while. The meal was simple, but the flavours were clean; it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Midway through the meal, another man joined our table and I got a first hand experience of the proper Japanese way to slurp one's ramen. It was quite a spectacular sight indeed. We left Ichiban Boshi without spending more than $20 each for delicious, authentic Japanese food. I will definitely be going back, and most likely ordering the same thing again. read more

The chicken shio ramen here was unreal. If you like creamy carbonara chicken pasta, then the ship chicken ramen will be a match made in heaven for you and your creamy broth seeking tastebuds. Absolutely delicious. read more

Hidden under the shops. Fast, friendly and very good quality ramen for a food court venue. The ramen had a lot of different ingredients in it to make it feel like restaurant quality. Soup was a tad salty for my liking but very good overall. read more

Love this place. For Ramen it is up there with Ippudo and Gumshara. The Tan-tan Men is delicious. Get a set so you have some of their delicious Gyoza with it :) read more

My partner and I went early on a Saturday night and had a short wait before getting a table. We both choose the Toyko ramen. The broth was delicious, it had just the right amount of consistency and saltiness. The noodles were cooked perfectly too and had a good texture. It's a casual place and at $9.90 for a bowl of ramen is great value. read more
