I've walked past this restaurant numerous times walking down Victoria Avenue in Chatswood and I've…read morewondered if its any good. We've been here about 3 times and every time it's been great. They have a unique treat called 'Onigiri', which is a traditional type of Sushi thats in a triangle - the thing about it is that the way it is wrapped, the seaweed wrapper never touches the rice/filling, which results in a very fresh and crispy wrapper. They come in various flavours, and if you want to try some I would advise getting there before 7pm (as there is limited stock). The Ramen is great. Beware their 'Volcano' hot ramens as they are very spicy. The 'Volcano' was too much for my gf who prides herself on being able to eat hot foods... and I have no idea how someone can have the 'Super Volcano' variant. I really enjoy their Waygu Beef Curry Udon, which is really tasty. Their other dishes are good too; the Agadashi tofu is great, crispy and soft with delicious sauce. Gyoza was tasty. I would recommend trying it if you are looking for Japanese in Chatswood.

Ohhh, ramen. Do I love ramen. I would bathe in that sweet oily pork broth if I could find someone…read morewho'd sell me a bath-tub of the stuff. Maybe throw in a few of those preserved eggs, they've gotta be good for your skin, right? I've eaten here maybe three times and each time I've had company, but I'm saving one particular menu item for when I come here alone: the Volcano Ramen, a super spicy extra hot-to-trot bowl of glowing vesuvian goodness. Cannot. Wait.

The noodles I will say potentially once of the best in Sydney, while the curry rice is to die for! The marinated soft boiled egg is always cooked to perfection. If you wanted jap food fix. Always make a point to stop here when I'm in the area -- my friends live around the corner from here so it makes for an easy dinner! AND it's BYO. Many a bottle of Sapporo has been enjoyed here outside on a warm summer evening. I remember writing a review for a local publication two years after they opened. Some things have changed - for one, they expanded into the next door area, so seating is not as much as a challenge as it used to be. My favorite is the negi miso ramen. https://s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com/photo/krJrdW3q23kLwMkgqR0PPA/l.jpg Have yet to find another spot (at least in Sacramento) that has it the way they do it here: strands of finely chopped negi (Welsh onion) heaping atop a steaming bowl of noodles. They also serve up gyoza, curry rice, katsu don - the usual Japanese restaurant comfort food staples. Practice your Japanese while you're here. Situated in a plaza on the way to the train, you can also pick up some Japanese comics across the way or drop in for some mochi ice cream at the corner store.

Not a frequent traveller to Artarmon, I met a friend who has recently moved here for dinner. On the…read moreNorth side of the station it is like little Tokyo, with three Japanese restaurants and two Japanese grocery stores in a little plaza. I picked the middle one, Jubei. The $5 beer happy hour got me in, whether it was still happy hour or not I didn't care I just thought it was a nice touch. And the pictures on the menu were better. As I waited for my dinner buddy I checked out what other people were eating. The couple next to me had some kind of soup that they were sharing, which looked interesting. Then they had big chunks of grilled fish. So we ended up ordering the pork belly broth which was super tasty and has finely sliced pork belly that melted in your mouth. Also ordered the fish, which was grilled in miso. Also had a mini okonomiyaki which I have not eaten since being in Japan, and was yum. (Although I don't like the fish shavings that look like wood shavings and move by themselves). For dessert was ice cream, with us trying the green tea icecream and black seasame flavours. It was served in a glass with crunchy nut cornflakes on the bottom and a kind of syrup over the top. The cornflakes were an awesome addition! Price came to $61 for two beers, three dishes and two desserts. Next time I want to try the sushi, as well as the big range of yakitori (something on a stick).
