San ta tan men (or something like that)
Jodie H.

One of our favourite places in Bondi Junction- really quick service, tasty food and decent prices- the only drawback, cash only. Gyozas are delicious, green tea cappucino is great. San Ran Tan Man is sour and spicy with big chunks of prawn and crab and super delicious. Chicken Katsu is nomalicious. Suki yaki don also a favourite. Plenty of seating inside and outside (with heaters for winter)- perfect place to go with our dog !

Tonkotsu Ramen. Woohoo

It's ramen time again. Can't miss out the tonkotsu ramen, which is limited to 15 bowls sold per day. Well, service was alright. Today they had a Korean as the cashier. Not being racist. But traditionally they put a jap at the front or an Aussie. He is kinda awkward. He dragged his feet while walking, it's just 18:45. Keep on dropping stuff on the floor while I sat down. Not great. The food was explicit. But it would be better if they rinse the noodles a bit more before putting into the soup. The noodle still had the smell of soda water they use. Dining area is clean and tidy. Waitress are precessional and well presented. Overall it's good but too many loose ends tonight.

Super busy, super vibey and super good. I have only one reservation about Ichiban-Boshi... way too many pork dishes. For a good Jewish boy, this was a bit of a drawback. I wanted so many of them for everything else they offered! They use that old trick of simply numbering each dish and posting a massive graphic on the wall, to avoid all those irritating questions from those pesky westerners. And it sure works. The place runs like a well oiled machine and not only do they turn tables, but they do a roaring trade on take outs. Why? Because its good, its reasonably fast and its excellent value. If you want noodles in the Junction there are a few places. You would do fine if you didn't look past this one.

Takoyaki (Octopus balls), they were good but definitely mass produced frozen product, also it needs shaved bonito sprinkled over

Was tossing up between 3 and 4 stars, in the end I think it deserves 3.5 so rounded it to 4 stars. This place is cash only, not sure why it's cash only in this day and age when the cc machine costs are next to nothing, the fees for visa are easily covered at 1% of the transaction amount (1% of $30 is 30 cents), pay wave is extremely common now and takes about 1 second for a payment to occur which now makes it much easier and faster than cash with less errors and no chance of people saying "I have you a $50" when they actually gave a $20. The only thing that stands out with well established food businesses in lower rental premises serving dishes that are mostly water/rice/noodles (cheapest foods to buy in Australia) where card facilities are not accepted is to hide cash for tax purposes... But that's just my mind working overtime a bit, not assuming anything here but I'm racking my brain trying to work out why successful established restaurants (most of which tend to be Japanese restaurants) are avoiding card payments. Now for the food, ordered a serve of octopus balls, Pork Katsu Don and Pork Katsu with Miso sauce. I did find the two pork mains to be better than other places in Sydney, the flavours were getting closer to something you could get in Japan (for 1/3 the price, but hey, welcome to Sydney), although the Panko crumb was more similar to a German/Austrian Schnitzel than Japanese Panko. The meals were cooked well and served quickly, good sized servings. The miso sauce on the main was very nice and did remind me of some miso sauces I have had in Japan. The mains were still on the whole quite good, very satisfying, the price for Sydney was at the average-higher average end at $11.50 and $12.50 a dish for lunch time at a cash only place... With a cash only place I do expect it to be 30% cheaper seeing as that's the company tax rate for Australia at the moment ;) Octopus balls were nice, but they were definitely just the frozen ones you can get from any Asian supermarket in Sydney that has a freezer section, deep fry them for 4 minutes and drizzle some miso/Japanese egg mayonnaise over it and you could have the exact same dish. I was a little disappointed that they didn't come with any shaved bonito... First time ever I have had takoyaki balls without this essential condiment. Would I go back again? I don't have anything against it but there are other Japanese restaurants in the area I would have to try first before going back. I still long for a Japanese restaurant in Sydney that stays true to authentic Japanese style food and philosophy... Maybe this is a dream that simply can't come true in this country? My quest for authentic Japanese style food (from high end to low end prices) continues... Maybe I should just book another flight to Japan?

Worst deep fired tofu ever!?

I love ramen! But they gave me a big disappointment. The pork soup base are not available in lunch time rush hours? So I order salty flavory soup. Basically it's only salty water... The noodle is very aldente very lovely. Plus on top I ordered deep fried tofu! I'm a tofu loveeerrrrrr! But it's the horrible tofu every! I don't think ill hit this ramen place again :(

Yakisoba was delish! Their gyoza was also amazing. Their ramen are what everyone comes here for. Definitely worth a try!

This place is like a Michael Bay blockbuster, all looks but no substance…read more The place is new, it looks fancy, the service is pleasant, and the food looks really good...but it fails to deliver and it's pretty underwhelming. For $13.90 a bowl a ramen, I'd expect it to have more than one piece of chashu...and a hot piece not a cold piece. It's $3.80 for 3 more pieces of chashu, meaning ~$18 for a bowl of ramen for 4 pieces of chashu. It would be a fair price if it were say Ippudo, but this place isn't even close. On top of that the egg was way overcooked. Meh. Manpuku takes a page out of Ramen Zundo's book and offers a Red (chili) and Black (soy) ramen and they also use bean sprouts and cabbage. Not necessarily bad, just different. The best part of the dish were the noodles since they're al dente...but overcooked egg, cold chashu, and a tepid broth make this place one I don't plan on frequenting again.

Happy belly... ive eaten here a few times and really loved…read morethis place. We needed a little extra help with the menu this time. I got the traditional chicken ramen broth it was excellent, flavourful and tastey and hit the right spot for me. The manager gave my other half some extra veggies as he went pork free with his dish. The manager spent extra time with us and going through the menu and completely nailed our tastes to recommendations. Some of the best service we've received in a long time, we'll be back.
