Always make a point to stop here when I'm in the area -- my friends live around the corner from here so it makes for an easy dinner! AND it's BYO. Many a bottle of Sapporo has been enjoyed here outside on a warm summer evening. I remember writing a review for a local publication two years after they opened. Some things have changed - for one, they expanded into the next door area, so seating is not as much as a challenge as it used to be. My favorite is the negi miso ramen. https://s3-media3.ak.yelpcdn.com/photo/krJrdW3q23kLwMkgqR0PPA/l.jpg Have yet to find another spot (at least in Sacramento) that has it the way they do it here: strands of finely chopped negi (Welsh onion) heaping atop a steaming bowl of noodles. They also serve up gyoza, curry rice, katsu don - the usual Japanese restaurant comfort food staples. Practice your Japanese while you're here. Situated in a plaza on the way to the train, you can also pick up some Japanese comics across the way or drop in for some mochi ice cream at the corner store.

They have a unique treat called 'Onigiri', which is a traditional type of Sushi thats in a triangle - the thing about it is that the way it is wrapped, the seaweed wrapper never touches the rice/filling, which results in a very fresh and crispy wrapper. They come in various flavours, and if you want to try some I would advise getting there before 7pm (as there is limited stock). The Ramen is great. Beware their 'Volcano' hot ramens as they are very spicy. The 'Volcano' was too much for my gf who prides herself on being able to eat hot foods... and I have no idea how someone can have the 'Super Volcano' variant. I really enjoy their Waygu Beef Curry Udon, which is really tasty. Their other dishes are good too; the Agadashi tofu is great, crispy and soft with delicious sauce. Gyoza was tasty. I would recommend trying it if you are looking for Japanese in Chatswood.

Maybe throw in a few of those preserved eggs, they've gotta be good for your skin, right? I've eaten here maybe three times and each time I've had company, but I'm saving one particular menu item for when I come here alone: the Volcano Ramen, a super spicy extra hot-to-trot bowl of glowing vesuvian goodness. Cannot. Wait.

Opened late in 2018…read more Saké Manly features an interactive sushi counter, a sophisticated bar and an outdoor terrace with sweeping ocean views out to Manly Cove, making it the idyllic location to enjoy Japanese and cocktails. The menu overseen by Chef Shaun Presland and Head Chef Shoji Toru offers a superb section of nigiri, sashimi and sushi rolls, all made to order from the freshest of local seafood. Saké Manly's drinks list showcases the finest of Japanese spirits, whiskies and over 30 bins of sake as well as umeshu, shochu and flavoured sake. Four seasonally changing spritz feature on the menu, all designed to match the light, floral notes of Japanese cuisine. (Stolen from the website...very useful information) The views are nice, not spectacular though...while it is a waterfront restaurant, if you don't get a good seat with a view you will be stuck watching all the folks on the wharf. We were a walk in and scored a table in the middle. I think you need to make reservations for a table with a view or for a big party...or maybe just get there really early. This place is lit! Great ambiance, modern decor and plenty of space. Be aware of the prices on the menu though...is is after all a Waterfront restaurant...so value will be an afterthought. ~ spicy brussel sprouts - 4.5/5 One of the suggested appetizers that our enthusiastic server convinced us to get... Basically a perfect appetizer! Delicious, charred, good flavor. ~ glacier51toothfish saikyo yaki - 4.5/5 I feel a bit duped on this one... Patagonian toothfish! It's amazing! "From Australian waters" ummm...in the states we call it Chilean Seabass! It is an excellent fish, buttery, flaky, light...delicious. Problem is our waitress advertised it as something that can only be found in Australian waters...um...NO. Sooo...I was under the impression I was enthusiastically wolfing down some exotic local Aussie catch! ~ sashimi moriawase - 4.5/5 Brilliant! Just Amazing!! Just not for 2 people...I could scarf this down myself. Amazing presentation...edible art, small pieces of fish, but very fresh. ~ From Japan with love - 3/5 A Gin bowl...whatever that is suppose to be. Nice refreshing drink, nothing stands out about it. IMHO the description sounds better than the drink tastes. All the food here is very very good. You are paying a premium for waterfront dining, so I had to ding about 1/2 star off. Definitely no value here; while every thing was Brilliant, nothing was outstanding. Good place to take a date, but be prepared to drop $$$

It's actually a nicer looking restaurant for the Manly area, very clean and contemporary. The service was very good (which is unusual for Aus), I think they're catering to the tourists that visit. We tried the tempura, it was lightly breaded which was nice but it had little flavor. The spider roll with the soft shell crab was nice, very light! The nigiri eel was the best!! And we ordered a dragon roll for dessert which was a very cool experience and tasted delicious too! This place does get busy during the holiday season so book a table. And while Manly is a casual place, people tended to dress up just a little nicer here but you still had a few locals in beach attire but not many.

We arrived at noon and it was empty so we had great service. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen, a friend ordered the cha-shu ramen, and another ordered the miso tonkotsu ramen. After you order ramen they ask what kind of noodle you prefer, thin (standard) or thick (udon style.) Word of note, each bowl comes with two egg halves, so don't be a fatty and order an extra egg like I did...but you will probably want to order extra cha-shu, unless you only like 1 or 2 pieces of cha-shu. I ordered extra cha-shu ($2) and only had 3 pieces...I think they're skimping a little here. We also ordered a salmon roll and skinny avocado roll, and these were really good, especially the cut of salmon. Sushi is definitely good and reasonable here. Taking the first bite, the ramen was really good...but after a few bites it seemed to be missing something. I'm not sure what it was, but the flavour started to get bland, on top of not having many pieces of cha-shu to add more flavour to the ramen. Still better than Ryo's Noodle, but I don't think I'd venture out of the city to come here for ramen.

We ordered the small sashimi plate and 2 rolls. The sashimi came out first and was great! I loved the shredded radish that accompanied the fish. However when the rolls came out I took 1 bite of the spider roll which was tasty, when I went in for my second piece I noticed a long hair in the sauce. I was so disgusted and wanted to send it back but my boyfriend insisted I not make a fuss. So I sat there and ate the sashimi instead. When I thought I might try a piece of sushi from the non hair found roll, guess what, I found a hair just sitting on top of the rice( see posted pictures if you don't believe me) that was really all I could handle. 1 hair, ok I don't think its acceptable, but 2 hairs in 1 plate?! That's just asking for a health inspector. I had to say something at this point to our server who said he would talk to the chef. He ended up comping the sushi rolls which was nice but really I want the restaurant to take a little more care in the kitchen and pride in their food. A restaurant at least should have good food and meet the minimum health standards. I'm sorry but I just don't think I can come back.
