Having been to all the big name churrascarias in CA and Vegas, I can say that Ipanema Grille stood far above them in quality of meat and service. Their menu is not as large as your Fogo de Chao type places, but the everything they serve is excellent. The salad bar is also there as a compliment to your meat, not a bunch of flashy stuff meant to fill you up before you get to the real main event. All of our meat was a perfect medium rare, but they were quick to provide more well (ew, why?) cuts for those around us. The skirt steak, ribeye, and bacon wrapped turkey would've been worth the cost of the meal alone. The servers were extremely attentive and quick to bring out whatever meat you requested. The owner/manager was also a class act. This place is in good hands between he and his fine staff. If I didn't live 4000 miles away I'd come here at least twice a month! This place is overrated! I've ate at Brazilian restaurants around the country and this was by far the worst. Our server opened our wine and left us to pour every glass for ourselves, the quality of meat was poor, the buffet food was not very good. After a handful of meats were brought out, I saw the manager speaking with our server and nothing else was brought unless we asked, even though we had our block turned up for green....he cut us off. I was very excited to find a Brazillian steakhouse in the area. A worker at the Everhart Museum had suggested it as a unique dining experience. I arrived to place my to-go order and waited till it was ready. That evening Brazil was playing Ivory Coast in the World Cup and there was a large party there with everyone wearing their teams jerseys. The Mixed Grille (Churrasco Mixto) was delicious, it consisted of pork, beef, sausage & chicken along with a small salad. It was around 18.00 and piping hot. We also ordered the feijoada which is a black bean stew with meat & veggies mixed together (15.00) Overall a great experience, Im a huge fan of Brazillian food, a la the Churasqueria's in Northern Jersey. They have a all you can eat buffet (rodizio) in the evening. they accept VISA, mastercard and have a private parking lot on the side. read more

By far, my favorite restaurant in the Scranton area and the place I shall miss the most now that I'm not visiting the area. One dinner I'll remember isn't so much about the food but the service-- I was dining with my family and the place was packed during an early dinner. The owner, Douglas, wasn't there but his two main lady servers were running the place and it was amazing to watch them work with what seemed like telepathic coordination. These guys really have it together! Having said that, here's a tip-- when you're pulling into the restaurant parking lot and it's REALLY full, which I've noticed happen on some Tuesdays, then the restaurant could be *very* busy that (regardless whether you have a reservation or not) the pace slows and you could be waiting minutes between meats. The workaround-- instead of ordering the rodizio when you see the place is full, have the skirt steak entree (see picture). What you'll get is at least 16 oz of a most flavorful and succulent skirt steak that you won't miss the rodizio, honest! Or at least in my case, this gives me another excuse to return during the week for the rodizio :) From the rodizio, my favorites are rib eye, skirt steak, top round, both types of sirloin and lamb. Less a fan of the bacon wrapped filet, turkey, chicken leg and heart, pork loin but then I really come here for the beef. Compared to other churrascaria's I've been to, Ipanema Grille doesn't rush you and the owners really try to make this place special. Given the food and drinks, service and vibe... oh yeah, that all important "vibe," Ipanema Grille has really hit it out of the ballpark. read more

What an experience, the $45 risidio was a treat all you can eat of 12 different meats, from pork to filet mignon, every few minutes a server comes to your table and offers one of the 12 meats to you your free to say yes or no or just s little bit, to me all the meat had the same flavoring, which I got tired of pretty quickly. There is a small buffet to fill in your other dishes, lots of bread, very little of anything else buffet was a lot down for me, but if you like pasta's or other odd European dishes you will be happy, make reservation, if anything it will be a new experience you won't forget read more

I honestly would give this place more stars if I could. This was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. Here in Harrisburg, if we want a Brazilian steakhouse experience, we need to drive an hour and a half to Baltimore or Philly to one of the Brazilian steakhouse chain. I'm willing to drive an extra half hour to come back here instead. We made a reservation and showed up a little early. The place is small, much smaller than those big Brazilian chains. There was nothing spectacular about the decor, but it was very clean and just gave off such a nice vibe. Our host quickly invited us to sit at the bar with Dave the bartender and have s drink while our table was being prepared. Dave was spectacular. He offered up his three Brazilian drink specialties...and offered up a very generous sample of the Brazilian rum so I could taste it before I bought it. It was delicious. We were sat after a short wait and we both decided on "the meats," which is, of course, non stop meat served by gouchos until you literally can't eat another bite. They really excelled here. Every. Single. Bite of everything I had was served HOT, juicy, and delicious. The meats were really, truly exceptional. They don't come out as rapid-fire as the big chains, but they don't have to because it's obvious they pay attention to the details, which takes slightly more time than just throwing meat on a skewer and rushing it out to tables. This is a family owned and staffed business. We literally had no less than three people visit our table and chat to learn about us and make sure we were more than satisfied. Dave learned that hubby was a beer snob and brought over a bottle of (excellent) dark Brazilian beer for us to enjoy. This was one of those rare places that made us feel like we were in someone's home enjoying an outstanding meal. If you are looking for a Brazilian steakhouse experience in a super casual setting, I can't recommend this place enough. I'm going back. I loved this place. So regardless of the quality of the food which was ok Does Not Worth It it was time that we were waiting fir meat and when they brought it it was a 2 inch size so what was that a sample for $45 ? If I ate a stake putting all together I was looky . The service was eh not bad not excellent I almost choke with a habanero without knowing the kind it was and I did not have water in my table! One of the this that really bother me was that as we were eating they were cleaning everything on the salad bar on a Friday 9:00 pm in case that is the time for closing a restaurant It is Not Nice to see that they are picking and cleaning while you are still consuming. This is a fantastic Brazilian steakhouse, in my opinion superior to the larger chains like Fogo de Chão. I drove up from Philly recently for a friend's birthday dinner and the meal was worth the trip! The meats are of excellent quality--particular favorites were the lamb and the sirloin with cayenne. We had the house sangria, which was delicious, and an assortment of desserts, including a notably good flan. The staff is friendly and attentive, and made sure to ask if there were any meats we wanted to repeat toward the end of the meal. For a special night out, Ipanema can't be beat. read more

As a Brazilian, I have high standards for churrascarias - but this place is awesome. Despite a considerable lower price than most rodízios in the US, the food here is tasty, authentic and plentiful. The standouts to me are the sirloin, chicken hearts, fried polenta and grilled pineapple. Staff is extremely friendly...I feel at home here. I have used the Ipanema twice on my drives between the East coast and the Mid-West, taking different co-pilots here on those 1000 mile drives. We have all agreed. This is some great food at a good restaurant. Make a reservation; we did the first time, walked in to a half filled restaurant, and wondered what the big deal was. By the time our salad/appetizers had left the table, the restaurant was packed, the energy was high, and we were GLAD we had called ahead. While visiting our son on the east coast, our son mentioned that he had never been to a Brazilian Barbeque and there wasn't one near where he lived. We were meeting friends for an evening of fun in Scranton and found that there was such a place in Scranton. Learning this, our son decided he'd join us and we'd go to Ipanema Grille for dinner. This is a family owned business that has been open since 2008. When we travel we really like to eat local, so this was a win-win choice all the way around. When we arrived just before 8 pm on a Sunday evening, the place was packed. Luckily we had called ahead and made a reservation, so we were shown right to our table. We all ordered Rodizio and shared a pitcher of Sangria. The food and drink were absolutely delicious. The staff was fun and friendly and it was very apparent that they enjoyed doing what they do. They kept us well supplied by bringing new meat selections every 5 minutes or so. I have to add that my husband and I had eaten at Chima in Ft. Lauderdale, and this place was a far cry better than that and 1/3 the price. The owner, Douglas, is a very kind man who is hands on with business operations. He works as hard as his staff and it is apparent that he appreciates them and treats them very well. read more

Be prepared to wait for a LONG time to be seated for dinner at peak times. Even though we had a 7:00 reservation on a Saturday night, we weren't seated until 7:45. That aside, the owner of the restaurant is incredibly friendly and was very hands-on with front-of-the-house duties, which made us feel very welcomed. The appetizer buffet had a decent spread of fried rice, salad, pasta, potatoes, among other things, and a few desserts. But, the star of the show is the restaurants rodizio dinner. The restaurant offers 13 different cuts of meat and the majority of them are well-cooked, tender, and scrumptious. The most memorable cuts were the sirloin with garlic, the peppered roast beef, and the bacon wrapped turkey. Cinnamon covered pineapple was included as the dessert with the rodizio dinner and that finishing touch was delicious as well. Overall, I think the Ipanema Grille is a great alternative to the slew of Italian and chain restaurants that are typical of the Scranton area. I definitely plan on eating here again the next time I'm in town. read more

There's simply nothing negative to say. Our entire meal and experience was delightful. Wait staff was polite and attentive, and left is wanting for nothing. We ordered the Rodizio and started at the buffet table. Honestly, they actually had menu items, but we didn't really see the point of doing anything else. Buffet had a reasonable selection of things, knowing the amount of meat that would be coming to our table I only nabbed a few bits and pieces. A roll, some broccoli and asparagus. All or which was delicious. And then came the meat. We tried a bit of all of it and it was wonderful. My personal favorite was the peppered roast beef, but pretty much every other thing was on the same level. The attentiveness of the staff ensured we had a steady supply of meat and they made sure we had a chance to sample everything and then asked if there were any particular meats we wanted to have brought back around. I've done this style of dining in larger establishments, and where it's similar, the smaller venue here ensures that you aren't 'lost in the shuffle' and you're able to get the meats you want in good time. 10/10 - would go again. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The Rodizio is amazing, but you had better be hungry! The sangria is so good you'll want to dive into the pitcher. The staff is very friendly & incredibly helpful when you want to know about anything on the menu. The desserts are great too. I went here with a group after work one day, because we had a large group we made a reservation, but the place wasn't very busy when we got there. For drink we had the Sangria and it was great!! For dinner, since we were all first timers (which I recommend to anyone going there for the first time, but it's a one time only thing in my opinion) we did the "Rodizio" Basically this is what a Brazilian Grille is known for. What you get with this is a buffet that has salad, rice, beans, rolls...but I wouldn't touch that if you order this because after you have some time to consider eating THAT food they start coming around with giant skewers of meat. You get to try 12 different types of meat (one is a chicken heart, so you can choose to include that or not). They come around table side and cut the pieces of meat right at your table for you. There are so many GREAT meats it was amazing. If you find something you really like, no worries they come back around again with the meat, if you somehow manage to save any room for more food. After this meal I was full for the rest of the night and next day, so I felt I got my moneys worth. If you don't feel like filling up on tons of meat they have other items on their menu, but this is what makes this place truly unique. Yes it was a little expensive but that's why it's something I say you only need to try once. This is not a place I would recommend for vegetarians. read more

Went here twice. Both times were EXCEPTIONAL. I got the Rodizio on both occasions which included a nice salad and appetizer bar. I believe it was around 33-36 dollars but it allowed me to try a large number of different meats/steaks (all you can eat). I highly recommend trying this if you go here. The service was as good as it gets. It is quite difficult to leave this place without a smile on your face and a full stomach! It isn't exactly inviting from the outside but it takes nothing away from the wonderful ambience inside. Will be back soon. read more
