What an amazing experience all around. There is just no way to leave this place hungry. The buffet has enough choices that you could probably fill up on that alone. I love the little red peppers and the shrimp cocktail is great for in between meats. Make sure you try a pitcher of Sangria and at least one of the caipirinha flavors. So starting off, I went to Ipanema Grille with my husband and wife, with a gift card. It was a Christmas gift. Not some place we would necessarily go to on our own, but it sounded fun. There was the option for Rodizio (endless table side meat with the buffet as well) or Boardwalk which is just the buffet. We chose to do the Rodizio all 3 of us. The buffet, was underwhelming. As a positive I will say each item we grabbed from the buffet was absolutely delicious, the correct temperature, and FRESH! They refill their boardwalk bar constantly. The buffet just didn't have many options. There were 2 tables basically side by side. One hot side where there was garlic broccoli, brown sugar carrots, mac and cheese, beans, rice, mash potatoes, and sweet potatoes, shrimp (which my wife adored) etc. In the middle a very amazing yucca stew. Then cold side had regular salad bar options, tomatoes, cheeses, lettuce, dressing, potato salad, pesto pasta, etc. Maybe if we went with the boardwalk option which was $39 something we would have been fully satisfied. However we did pay $70 each for the Rodizio. There were 13 meats, we were there for 2 hours and didn't try all the meats. The meats came pretty slowly with big breaks in between and some cuts of meat went right by us over and over. As well my husband and I requested medium rare, and consistently were offered well done or very well done meat. As well some of the meat was under seasoned in some cases. Some of the meat when it was actually medium rare was absolutely phenomenal, like the lamb with rosemary was all of our favorite. Again to some positives, the owner was very involved, walking around and asking everyone how they were, the entire staff was friendly. The tables were cute with candles in the middle, and the atmosphere was cozy. The place isn't very big so as more people fill in it gets a bit loud and hard to hear your gaucho say what meat they are offering, but they kindly repeated for me over and over despite my terrible hearing. The drinks seem to be amazing, we tried both sangrias white and red, and then got a pitcher we ended up taking most of home (yes they let you!). Which I thought was awesome, and the sangria is to die for! Like I said the meat was slow and inconsistent, but worse was our server, which I will not name because she was a teen and maybe this is her first job, but she consistently walked past us without checking in. Finally we flagged her down to beg for a water refill, and she refilled half the rooms water and stood talking in the kitchen for a bit, before getting us any. Now lastly to dessert. I got the liquor chocolate cake, it was delicious, but in my opinion quite small, though admittedly I'm a fat girl, so I like a good size dessert. My wife also got a dessert, the flan, she also complained it was small. They also only put like 3 strawberries on each which was disappointing because it enhanced the flavor a lot. All in all, it's a fun experience. 10/10 for kindness and vibes. 9/10 for the quality of the buffet. 7/10 for buffet variety 5 or less really, for actual service. Our bill was for three rodizios, two desserts, one beer, one glass white sangria, one glass red sangria, and a pitcher of white sangria. Mind you it was a Tuesday and they do sales of almost half price on sangria by the glass and pitcher. Our bill came out to about $308. I don't feel our experience met expectations. When we go out for anniversaries we drop $300 or more without thought and a good tip, (special occasions we go all out). So we considered if we liked this place coming back for our anniversary, but I wouldn't bother. I left a small tip for the lack of service, and would never go back. I still would recommend it to others if they have patience, maybe speak up more than I did about meat preference, and just want the experience. Go and see for yourself, but just keep in mind to be vocal about preferences, and ready to wait. read more

Went for five as a party of 4 (suggested to have a reservation) and the manager came to greet us directly. We were led to our table and got served attentively throughout the evening. They've got a salad/hotplate bar full of cheeses and of course, the rodìzio. The place is small but quite cozy with a wall of wines and spirits. The only problem is that the service is a bit slow, but it's most likely because of a lack of cooks in the back making the meat. Anyhow, everything is great, way better than before. First time visiting a Brazilian steakhouse and it was great. They recently remodeled from what we were told and it was a very nice atmosphere inside, clean neutral colors, small seating but cozy. Would definitely recommend making reservations. The wait staff was phenomenal, and food was amazing. Some of my favs from the night were bacon wrapped chicken, garlic sirloin, and skirt steak. Great place! If you're getting rodizio you can help yourself to buffet/salad bar. Buffet bar is well stocked, and everything was very good. The rodizio meats were just about all good. My wife & I were traveling from Virginia to NH and found this restaurant by mistake so we didn't have a reservation but the host was able to find us a table and we had the most amazing, delicious meal! I was in the mood for Brazilian bbq so decided to try this spot while out there for work. When I arrived I parked in their lot. I walked in and sat at the bar. Kaycie was my bartender/server. I started with the red sangria and it was tasty. For my meal I got the seafood paella. They gave me a salad first and it was good. When the paella came out it was huge. I dug in and it was very tasty. The only downfall was the clams were a bit rubbery. The scallops and shrimp were great though. The bill was about $50. All in all I had a good experience. read more

The good: the amazing new redesign is a sight to be seen. The salad bar was delicious, fresh, and had many authentic choices to sample. Their sangria and other cocktails are always top-notch, and this continues to be the case. The okay: the meat was delicious but it took a while for us to actually get our food due to a much larger party which obviously took priority. More specifically we asked for no pink in the meat. The first couple of offerings came very pink and red/bloody. After we asked again for no pink, the meat came out much more to our liking and was delicious. The bad: we have been coming here for years, and for the first time ever the service was definitely way below normal standards. Servers walked clear past us as they attended to a larger parties. We consistently waited anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes for an offering of the rodizio (meats). Servers would walk right past us to the larger tables and then walk back to the kitchen with almost empty skewers and we would not even be offered what was left or acknowledged that they were coming to us. Huge gaps of time of 10 to 20 minutes or more between someone even asking us if "would we like anything", or "what did we not have yet". One server would come and ask us if we would like something and we wouldn't see anyone or anything for over 15 minutes. But yet, another server would come over at the 15 minute mark and ask again if we wanted anything. Our final offering of rodizio took 24 minutes to get served to us after our first asking. This was due to it not bringing offered initially at any time. The whole situation was incredibly frustrating as we never experienced something like this before. It will be a long time before we return to this establishment. It is a shame as it is a unique experience for the city of Scranton. read more

Sigh. I really didn't want to write this review because I don't want to actually have to remember to make reservations in a timely manner if it gets too popular, but I cannot in good conscience wait any longer to sing this place's praises. I've been to a few Brazilian steakhouses, and in my opinion the meat here is definitely better than chains like Fogo de Chao. Everything is well seasoned, which for us is like finding an oasis in a flavor desert. The lamb, the garlic beef, and the cayenne beef are the literal incarnation of Flavor Flav, which I guess explains why this New York girl is in love. Their salad bar is fairly modest, but everything is fresh, they have veggie and carb options, and the cucumbers and pickled peppers especially are a nice palate cleanser between meats. The first time we went was for dinner after our lil courthouse wedding. We had a wonderful, romantic night. Our server was incredibly sweet and they took photos for us and gave us a complimentary dessert. We had the passionfruit mouse, which was so yummy that we've ordered it every time since, even though the grilled cinnamon pineapple that comes after the meat is delicious too. We've been back a few times since then for date nights and with various friends, who have always had a good time. One friend wasn't up for the meaty madness and ordered a chicken entree, which she enjoyed. We can't relate, but it's nice to know they're not slacking on the rest of the menu. All of the staff, including the manager/owner? are very nice and attentive without being pushy. They ask how you prefer your meat cooked and remember, they make sure that you get to try everything, and when you start slowing down they ask what your favorites were so you can have them again. We went to another place recently where they were actively aggressive with the meat and ignored the "stop" signal, and only managed to enjoy ourselves by snarkily comparing them to Ipanema the whole time. They also don't have the opposite problem of exuding a "you fat gringos are eating my kid's college fund" vibe. We can just take our time and enjoy at our own pace. Refreshing. They have a sangria night, Tuesdays?? It's a bit sweet for my taste, but I appreciate that it's not half ice. I just asked for a separate glass of ice with extra lemons and it was perfect. They have a loyalty punch card thing, 10 rodizo get one free, which is a nice bonus but honestly not necessary to keep us coming back. read more

Went to Scranton for an Office themed birthday and decided I wanted to go somewhere fancy for the actual birthday dinner. What an amazing meal. The manager and I bonded over Blanton's as you can't get that up north. The wait staff was lovely and made sure we got to try all of the meats and even made fresh rounds of items we hadn't been able to try yet. Have been to Ipanema Grill many times over the years, and eating here is truly an experience. The non-stop parade of grilled and broiled meats streaming from the kitchen doesn't stop until you're pleading "no more!" The food really is top notch, the meats are perfectly seasoned and vary widely from garlic topped sirloin to lamb with rosemary and bacon-wrapped filet. The sides and salads at the small buffet area to go with your meats are also delicious. The staff is friendly and is very good at what they do, you're made to feel welcome from the moment you walk in until you leave stuffed with all that good food. My first time at the Ipanema Grille was for Valentine's Day date night this past Saturday. We were absolutely thrilled by not only the quality of the food, but probably the most exceptional service I've ever had. Ordered Rodizio (x2) and a Sangria Pitcher. To be completely honest I ordered a single glass of Sangria and the owner convinced me the pitcher was the better way to go, when I ordered a second glass. He said he wouldn't even charge me for the first glass. The salad bar had a really nice selection, but the Rodizio completely stole the show. It was a non-stop parade of mouth watering meats with some of the best steaks I've ever tasted. We were full, but kept going... just so we didn't miss out on anything.
