I've never had the food, but I've been in a couple times on a weekend night for a drink. The place is always slammed with kids from the University of Scranton. It's a massive space with a large front room and back patio, but on a weekend the entire place feels packed. The bartenders are generally good for how many folks they are serving. Second order was just as bad. The mac & cheese was dry. There wasn't much cheese to go with the Mac. Generally good. Could be better. I stopped in for dinner and a beer after an event, and the experience was completely reasonable but short of what I had hoped for. It's also worth noting that expecting a good pescatarian experience at a barbecue joint is more of a me problem. In terms of the space, it had a laid back feel. Not too fancy. Just a bar, with an outdoor patio out back. Lot's of wood surfaces. A good amount of space. It felt comfortable. In terms of the staff, they were generally very attentive. Not fine dining level, but about what you would expect at a neighborhood bar. They did the job and conversed with various customers. In terms of food, everything was fine. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with a side salad. The side salad was fine. Fresh ingredients. Well presented. The tacos were clearly presented with care, but it felt like they need a little more flavor. Maybe more slaw or some hot sauce on the side. They felt a little meh, even if the presentation was nice. Great food and service with a fantastic back bar with open air seating. The beer selection is the best we have found in downtown Scranton.

The smokers outside drew me in, anticipating really good food. I got the pork platter. Meat was good...what little there was bc it was a lot of fat in the $15 portion I selected. They nickel & dime you, too, with overpriced items. $3 for cornbread, but it was only a tiny 4"x4" slice for that amount. The waitress asked me what kind of sauce I'd like with my $6 side order of fries, then charged me $1 for a small, half-filled plastic condiment cup of BBQ sauce. BUYER BEWARE: My buddy noticed on our bills that if you pay with a credit card, they charge you an extra 3% on each item you ordered. My friend walked over to the ATM to get cash. It just reinforced the stingy pricing. Service was good, waitress was friendly, glad they had a GF hamburger bun for my kid (for a price)...but ownership needs to reconsider how they charge for things. Don't come here on Wing Night Wednesday.. We made the mistake of coming here on wing night. We got our appetizer, chips and dip. Chips were homemade and burnt... 3/10. Dip was fine, probably out of a packet. Little did we know those burnt chips would be the only thing we would be eating for an hour with little to no refills. Seemed to be forgotten about with us being inside and I guess everyone else in the back. After an hour, our food came out. I got the brisket tacos, they were good. 8/10. My table got a chicken cheesesteak and ask for no mushrooms and ofc it came out with mushrooms... We had to get the wings, the wings were good! An hour wait good? No. 7/10. It took a weird amount of time for our last entree to come out and it was just like chicken tenders on a bun, no love. Oh and the pulled pork sandwich was more like slop. Typical bar food, lots of seating - they have the initial bar and then an additional back room where we had to move to during a dumpster fire that happened right in front of their restaurant. The only restaurant where I get Delicious Smoked Chicken Wings. I don't know any other place that has this. It's a unique flavor and taste, it has a HUGE selection of beers as well, is like 4 pages on the beer menu..lolol a lifetime to taste them all..jaja! There is a backyard section for drinking eating, my favorite. Customer service is excellent. All the food items I tasted were great, too many to list one by one. Best eating experience. Was looking for dinner after a day at Steamtown. This place was what I was near, and BBQ sounded good. I did not come to drink any Ale tho, so I can't comment on that aspect. We waited at the front a couple of minutes which was okay considering they seemed busy, but then some party entered and were attended to right away. We basically just followed that party because I overheard the there wwer only tables in the outdoor patio. We were able to establish contact with wait staff out there and so it began. Staff was friendly but service was slow. We were waited on by about 4 different persons, which was a little confusing, but if that what it takes to get served, then fine. Again, I am guessing they were understaffed. We ordered some BBQ ribs which were quite good but the half rack was small IMO. They have nothing on Kansas City, but it was still pretty good. They appear to BBQ their meats on the premises. Ambiance was okay, fine for BBQ and beer. If I lived in Scranton, maybe this place would be on the list of options, IDK. read more

I enjoy going to the BYA when I'm in Scranton. Nice selection of micros on tap. I prefer eating in the backyard, but a little tough to do in the winter. The bar area is a classic pub with dark wood, plenty of room at the bar with lots of table seating. Parking is on street. Service was good. I had 2 awesome IPAs and the BBQ sampler with a side of mac n cheese. I love their Mac. One of my favorites. My BBQ Sampler choice was pork, ribs and brisket. It was a huge portion. Went during the games on Sunday and there was still plenty of seating both inside and outside. We sat at the bar as there were no low tops available and brought our dog with us, Marshmallow with us as its dog friendly outside. We had a really great time. Crowd was lively, bartenders were called by name so it goes to show tons of regulars. Service was great and food was amazing as well. We came back again because we gave the food a 4.5 last year. We sat at the bar last night and had very good service. Our bartender was friendly, attentive and checked in on us frequently. My husband ordered the Banjo pig, their version of a Cuban sandwich. He absolutely loved it and said it was the best he has ever had. I ordered the vegetarian tacos which were a letdown. The tacos came out room temperature and there didn't seem to be much to the taco besides the beyond crumbles. I ordered a side salad which was very good but it was served in a banana split bowl. It was hard to eat so we decided to spread it out on our empty plate and it was tasty. Came here on the Friday of Cardboard Classic and really enjoyed the entire evening. It was a great atmosphere: we sat in the front room with the bar but you could tell it was busy in the back. The alcohol list is extensive. We were served relatively fast: very clear the wait staff just grabs whatever table and helps where they can. My husband got the smoked wings, I got the steak tacos. Tacos were absolutely delicious and the shell being crispy was a really unique touch. If you are in Biden town on travel, come here for a huge variety of beer and great BBQ! Came here on work travel in Scranton, home of the Office, and was surprised at this place and location. It's sort of by itself in a small town. But it definitely has great beer at great prices. The BBQ platters are also great too. I came here during the week on an evening and ate on the outside patio so can't really say how it is on the weekend. We came in around 7:30pm on Saturday and there was free street parking alongside the restaurant. We were immediately seated and we chose the back room to dine. I sat underneath a warm ceiling heater and felt comfortable the whole evening. The service was great and attentive! We ordered a few beers on draft and they were super affordable at like $5.50 to $7 a 16oz glass! We ordered the Backyard Beef Philly which is served with a house cheese sauce similar to that of Cheese Whiz. The beef was thinly sliced and seasoned well. I personally prefer provolone over this house sauce. We also ordered a BBQ platter consisting of the pulled pork, brisket, and baby back ribs. The BBQ sauce reminded me of a Carolina-style barbecue flavor which I thoroughly enjoyed! The pineapple slaw was unique and gave a sweetness to the rest of the meal. The corn bread was overly dense but not too sweet. We ordered a side of fries well-done but unfortunately, they were soggy! Overall, enjoyed my dining experience as well as the food. I could see the vibes of the venue to be wonderful in the summer. I'm sure the roof in the back opens up. The music played during the night had me in dancing while waiting and eating!
